HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Despite its large and prosperous shipyards, Sluis Van has never achieved the prominence of other worlds such as Kuat, Mon Cala, or even its close neighbor Sullest. This is also true of its armed forces as Sluis Van has often found itself at the whim of one great power or another and was to produce whatever its conquer demanded. Only recently has Sluis Van struck out to create its own destiny and assert its independence and its defense fleet is very much a result of this newfound independence. As its ship-design industry takes its first steps into creating native designs, ships from past conflicts and outside companies make up the bulk of the fleet and have proven effective at combating pirate fleets and various other criminal organizations. With its induction into the Rimward Trade League, the Defense Fleet finds itself dispatched in-service of the League to patrol League space and engage in real combat. Often, League Rangers and Merchant Marines will be supported by the forces of Sluis Van when they call for aid.
