ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Impressive Speed: The Shyyyo-class Combat Transport is fairly fast for its size thanks to its oversized engines. This speed becomes even more impressive when the ship's shields energy is partially drained and transferred into a SLAM system, making it one of the quickest vessels around at sublight speeds.
  • Solid Defense: The Shyyyo has relatively average shielding, but relatively thick Argentum-series Matrix Armor, which provides it with slightly better protection than average - a useful attribute especially as the transport comes in to land its passengers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Low Armament: As a transport, armament was not a priority in the ship's design, and it subsequently sports less firepower than an average starfighter like an X-wing. That armament which it does have is primarily directed towards fighting ground threats as it comes in to land or if acting as a fire support vehicle to land forces.
DESCRIPTION
The Shyyyo is a small combat transport in the vein of the classic DX-9 Stormtrooper Transport designed to ferry several squads of troop into combat and then support them if needed. To that end, the ship's design is primarily focused on obtaining high sublight speeds to allow for troops to be rapidly deployed from their home station. While a nominally fast craft on its own, the addition of a SLAM drive rigged to a Burner Shield often makes it one of the fastest vessels present on a battlefield, and many times, it can simply outrun its predators. However, the Shyyyo is often the predator when it comes to ground support missions, where its Reaper Mag Cannon can quickly chew up small vehicles, fighting positions, and groups of infantry while its warhead payload can typically take care of larger threats like tanks and walkers. While primarily intended for ground support operations, the Shyyyo is also sometimes used for boarding operations, where its high speed allows it to quickly find and latch onto a target before its hull-cutting ring opens it up for its several squads of troopers to board.

Technical Explanations

Flight Control Systems:
While the Shyyyo can be piloted by a single person in emergencies, it performs bests with pilot and a co-pilot to handle its sometimes complex load of systems, with the co-pilot often handling communications and weapons. Both stations are set tandem to each other and are identical, allowing one person to immediately take control of the dropship if the other is killed or disabled. Like other Lucerne Labs designs, most of the pilot's controls are modeled on legacy Incom airspeeder designs and the X-wing. This allows the transports to easily be piloted by people used to flying those craft. However, the Shyyyo also sports several refinements from other Lucerne Labs craft, including an inertial compensator has been integrated into the ship's sensor suite. This allows the field to expand or contract automatically based on stimuli, whether it's a tumultous asteroid or a dovin basal, allowing the many passengers typically carried onboard a smooth ride and not disrupting their cargo.

Sublight Engines: The Shyyyo uses a pair of oversized ion engines mounted on wing-tip gimball mounts which provide the ship with reasonably good speed. These engines can rotate to point the engine nozzles downwards, providing the ship with a means to levitate in areas where repulsorlifts are unreliable. This system is also used to break the steep falls that many Shyyyo pilots prefer to use when making quick orbital insertions. Perhaps more importantly, the Shyyyo's engines are equipped with a SLAM system linked to a Burner Deflector Shield generator. By rapidly transferring energy from the ship's shields and into its oversized engines, the Shyyyo can rapidly accelerate and sustain high speeds at the cost of shield strength, shield regeneration, and maneuverability. This exceptionally high speed is perhaps the Shyyyo's greatest asset.

Hyperdrive: The Shyyyo uses a typical hyperdrive for a ship its size, allowing to conduct long-range operations from a base or carrier starship. A Shyyyo can typically travel across several sectors before needing to refuel. While not intentionally designed as a passenger and light cargo shuttle, it is often pressed into that role by the Directorate because of its reasonably long range.

Hull: The Shyyyo has a fairly aerodynamic hull design to allow for good atmospheric performance, but its hull is still wide enough to carry a reasonable amount of troops and/or cargo. Its trimantium frame is specially designed to absorb the high stresses from engaging the ship's SLAM drive. A somewhat thicker than normal layer of Argentum-series Matrix Armor makes it fairly durable against most threats.

Shields: The Shyyyo is equipped with a Burner Deflector Shield generator, which provides the ship with average shield strength for the ship's size. Its greatest asset is its ability to rapidly transfer power to the ship's engines.

Weapons: The Shyyyo has somewhat less than normal of offensive power for a starship its size, but what firepower it does have is configured to provide excellent fire support to ground troops. A chin-mounted, swiveling Reaper Mag Cannon has excellent fire acts and precise caliberation, allowing the Shyyyo's co-pilot to accurately throw out a steady torrent of fire to tear through small vehicles, structures, and groups of enemies. It can also be used against airborne threats, where its high rate of fire makes it excellent at intercepting enemy ordinance and small airborne threats like swarm fighters and small interceptors. Mounted on either wing is a quartet of modular warhead hardpoints. These are typically used to carry concussion missiles or proton torpedoes to deal with heavier threats like tanks, walkers, and other starships. However, they can carry other similarly sized ordinance, and it's not uncommon to see Shyyyo's toting anti-armor missiles, incendiary warheads, or ion torpedoes. This last piece of ordinance is often used to help disable ships, which then better allows the Shyyyo to dock and through its armor plating with its ventral hull-cutting ring for boarding operations.

Countermeasures: The Shyyyo has a single Modular Auxiliary Systems Turret located in its nose, just above the Reaper Mag Cannon. This device provides the transport with several options depending on the mission's needs. Sensor jammers are particularly popular, as they make the Shyyyo harder to target during operations, especially when conducting sudden attacks or drop-offs with its quick speed. If expected to engage in protracted fire support missions, the directional particle shield is more common. If operating in concert with artillery and armored vehicles, the enhanced targeting package can allow the Shyyyo to act as a 'spotter' and accurately deliver precise targeting information to these units. The Tractor beam option is generally chosen when the Shyyyo is employed in boarding operations, as it makes it easier for the Shyyyo to catch smaller and similarly sized prey or can assist in precisely closing in to larger targets such as capital warships.

Passenger / Cargo Capacity: The Shyyyo is roughly the same size and configuration as the Dx-9 Stormtrooper Transport, and unsurprisingly, carries a similar payload of around 30 troops and their equipment. In practice, this is about three squads of men or droids in most units. The Shyyyo's cargo hold is somewhat modular though internally, and it can also carry a dozen individuals in exceptionally heavy power armor (like Zero-G Assault Stormtrooper Armor) or several smaller land vehicles, like speeder bikes and/or a small landspeeder or two.

Still love S.L.A.M., still have same issues though with Hyperdrive rating.

You are above one rating. Either add a significant weakness, lower a rating, or lower the production. I would recommend Squadron Count mainly, bit larger of a starship for its class. All up to you though!

I await your reply. Notify when changes are made.

Listib Hibin Listib Hibin , waiting on the results of the Hyperdrive discussion by Factory staff for this one and the droid fighter. You probably have a better idea of how that's going. If you think it's going to be a while to get the results on that, feel free to send these submissions to the pre-factory while that gets worked out.
