- Metallic growths or mutation of limbs.
- Due to the nanospore being mixed with the chemicals of death sticks, it also has the same mild hallucinogenic effects as a death stick along with its more infamous side effects of reduced Force Sensitivity while the drug components are active in the body. The shortening of a subject's lifespan is not something the creators worried about as the goal is their eventual transformation into a technobeast Sithspawn.
- As the Sheoldred Nanospores are a derivative of the Gitaxias Nanospore, they have much the same qualities and ability to transform a subject's body and mind into a technobeast Sithspawn. However, where the Sheoldred Nanospore differs from its progenitor is the level of control, at least initially, the subject has over their transformations and the speed at which they occur. Combining the nanospores with the illicit drugs known as death sticks have resulted in a slower progression of the nanospores through the body, while allowing the subject to alter the cybernetic transformations of their bodies at will for a time. Once the nanospores reach critical mass within the body, or the mutations reach a certain tipping point, the subject will quickly transform into their final technobeast form.
- Some subjects have been observed as believing their cybernetic mutations are just part of the hallucinations caused by the death stick components.
- Some subjects have been observed to embrace the changes and seek out ways to enhance them, likely drawing upon the underground Mod culture as an influence.
- The nanospores mutate a subject into a highly adaptable and powerful technobeast Sithspawn. Perhaps even more so than the previous iterations, the Sheoldred is designed to be even more adaptive to the subject's desires and physiology, creating cybernetic enhancements and mutations that they want at first almost as though they have mechu-deru or an innate connection to the nanospores. This is achieved through the nanospores traveling to the subject's brain with the death stick chemicals to subtly mutate it as a control transceiver for the nanospores slowly propagating in the body.
- Time from infection to a full transformation can vary depending on the level of exposure to the nanospores, typically falling within several days at minimum due to the design of the nanospores in question, although full mutation from just an initial exposure could take up to two weeks to manifest. Mutations can occur within the first moments from exposure, especially if the subject knows what the substance can cause before they consume it. However, any physical mutations that occur are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reverse once the subject has reached a critical threshold of infection. Psychological mutations can be reversed before a full transformation, but once that occurs, the original subject's mind and personality are generally replaced.
- A more unique property of the Sheoldred Nanospore is the ability for it to adapt and change if another nanospore from Project Mehkis is introduced into the subject's body, a feature of the nanospores that was required by the Lady of Secrets to ensure Elesh Nanospores could make sure any infected Force Sensitives retained their connections to the Force once fully transformed.
- A Force User trained in mechu-deru, Art of the Small, or is an extremely skilled healer can keep the infection at bay, halt, or even reverse the progression of the nanospores as long as the mutations have not reached critical threshold, although this can be more difficult if it is the Force User exposed as the death stick components will mute their connection to the Force.
- As with any nanospore, applications of extreme heat can curtail burn out the infection before it reaches a critical threshold. In addition, certain chemicals such as those introduced into a subject from an orbalisk parasite, can burn out the nanospores if they are applied within minutes of initial exposure.
- At the very initial stages of infection, the same treatments that would cure death stick addiction can cure someone of Sheoldred nanospores, but such treatments would be required within the first few hours of exposure at the latest to be completely effective.
With the successes seen with the experiments on non-sentients with the Gitaxias and Elesh nanospores by the Cybergene Alchemists of the Order of Arcane Syn, approval had been given by Darth Arcanix to begin work on developing a third iteration of the nanospores for the next stage of testing. While the previous iterations would remain viable, for the tests that the Lady of Secrets had in mind for both the project and the Jedi, a slower acting nanospore would be required that could be subtly introduced into the galaxy at large for a control group testing. To those ends, the Lady of Secrets and her followers co-opted a minor criminal syndicate that operated mainly in death stick production and distribution, replacing their leadership with their own agents and indoctrinating the rank-and-file.
With the syndicate under their control, the Cybergene alchemists went to work in combining their third-generation nanospores with death sticks to create the Sheoldred nanospores. The new iteration would mutate those who were infected by it at a much slower rate than the Gitaxias or Elesh versions, but it would allow the subject infected through the use of the contaminated death sticks to initially control how the changes occurred. As the subject would use the death sticks more, the changes would accelerate until reaching critical mass where they would fully turn into one of the technobeasts of Project Mekhis. One further stipulation from the Lady of Secrets required some changes to the initial nanospores so that if another of the Mehkis-created nanospores was introduced into a subject, those nanospores would replicate and replace the Sheoldred versions to ensure Force Sensitivity was not lost as the main reason.
Using the street name Dross, the death sticks would be distributed by the syndicate into the underworlds of various planets and regions, all under the careful observation of the Order of Arcane Syn.
