- Due to the Elesh Nanospores being a derivative of the Gitaxias version, it has many of the same side effects, or in this case evidence of exposure and the beginning of the transformations, include:
- Discolored skin, veins, and subject's blood becomes close to black in coloration at point of infection and spreads.
- Memory loss or rapid personality shifts similar to schizophrenia
- Metallic growths or mutation of limbs.
- As the Elesh Nanospores are a derivative of the Gitaxias Nanospore, they have much the same qualities and ability to transform a subject's body and mind into a technobeast Sithspawn. However, where the Elesh Nanospore differs from its cousin is the use of Artusian crystals within the nanogene seeds used to facilitate the transformations. The crystals were alchemized to act as tiny conduits of the Living Force around a subject, essentially creating a facsimile of the midi-chlorians found within a subject by channeling/draining Force energies and storing them for use by the subject.
- The nanospores mutate a subject into a highly adaptable and powerful technobeast Sithspawn.
- Time from infection to a full transformation can vary depending on the level of exposure to the nanospores, typically falling within thirty minutes to an hour for a concentrated exposure to several days for minimal exposure, but this process can be accelerated with repeated exposure. However, any physical mutations that occur are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reverse once the subject has reached a critical threshold of infection. Psychological mutations can be reversed before a full transformation, but once that occurs, the original subject's mind and personality are generally replaced.
- Due to the Artusian crystals used within the nanogene seeds, the subject has access to the Force as they did before they were transformed.
- A Force User trained in mechu-deru, Art of the Small, or is an extremely skilled healer can keep the infection at bay, halt, or even reverse the progression of the nanospores as long as the mutations have not reached critical threshold.
- As with any nanospore, applications of extreme heat can curtail burn out the infection before it reaches a critical threshold. In addition, certain chemicals such as those introduced into a subject from an orbalisk parasite, can burn out the nanospores if they are applied within minutes of initial exposure.
- For the subject to gain access to the Force after it has been transformed, it must have been Force Sensitive before its transformation. The Artusian-infused nanogene seeds can only replace existing midi-chlorians.
While Darth Arcanix was pleased with the progression of the Gitaxias Nanospore project being helmed by Hyson Whita and Doctor Votoc, the new technovirus still did not overcome one major shortcoming of the technobeast and cybernetics in general. Texts might exist of a "technobeast Jedi" and their ability to still remain a Force user after becoming part machine, and the knowledge Arcanix had of individuals within the galaxy overcoming the issue, but it was a well-established fact that the vast majority of Force users lost connection to the Force the more they became mechanical. The Force was for the living and channeled by the midi-chlorians, but Arcanix and her cadre saw that as merely a challenge that needed to be overcome through experimentation and innovation.
The idea was struck upon to utilize alchemized Artusian crystals within the creation process of the nanogene seed droids, working upon the old shadowtrooper and Reborn concepts from several centuries ago. The seeds would be able to seek out and alter the midi-chlorian organelle and alter it with the Artusian crystal during the process of transforming a subject, with the new crystalline replacement alchemized to absorb and store Force energies that the subject could utilize as they had done before their mutation. However, this process did necessitate that the original subject was sensitive enough to the Force to use it in their previous life, it would not be a way for non-sensitive to gain Force abilities.
