The Republic Cruiser, Testament, dropped out of hyerspace, the blurring stars fading from view as the vessel of the 102nd Task Force, reverted to realspace over the world of Chroma Zed. The moment was quiet as the Hammerhead Class warship began to drift through local space to settle in a planetary orbit above the pristine world. Its crew and its passengers had a mission to undertake here, one that perhaps had a darker source than the Republic could have imagined appearing so close to their section of the galaxy. It was up to them to take care of the matter, which was why the final debriefing was now being given to the gathered members of the advance team.

The Advance team being the Jedi.

Commander Dallen Thayne stood beside the Jedi Master in charge of the group, Rafeesh, who was heading the operation and also leading the Padawans who had been put together for the assignment. The Republic Officer was in charge of the Task Force the Testament was assigned to, and the cruiser was the battlegroup's flagship. The onboard contingent, the infantry of the 102nd, was under his command as well, and it was their part in the matter to support the Jedi team with tactical advantages and containing the situation.

As the light glinted off his glasses while he turned to the gathered Padawans, the Republic Commander would begin the mission debriefing. "As the Testament is beginning final approach protocols for the planet below we will begin the final mission assessment. The 102nd and the crew of the Testament feel highly honored that the Jedi Council sent not only such talented Padawans, but one of the Order's Knights as well. This will surely be a major advantage against the enemy we'll be contending with today."

Pushing up his glasses slightly, Commander Thayne picked up his datapad as he read the mission summary they needed to be familiar with before departing. "Reports have been coming in that a pirate and smuggling ring has appeared in this sector of space, taking advantage of worlds along the Republic's border. We've determined very little about their movements and total force, however, a factor did become noted during one of their raids on a commercial liner. . . . .a figure clad in dark robes and wielding a lightsaber was among the attackers. The Republic Defense Forces and Jedi Order have come to the conclusion this is either a Sith backed group then or a Dark Jedi utilizing the underground for their own purposes. Agents tracked the attackers on the liner to an encampment on Chroma Zed below."

Now bringing up the planet's file along with the documents on the survey intelligence operatives performed on the supposed base the fugitives were using. "Chroma Zed is a lush world of mountains and steep cliffs, its famed for its naturally beautiful vistas and landscapes. Impressive waterfalls and petroleum hot springs dot the mountain passes. Its a real shame these scoundrels have set up here. . . . . .their encampment is set up along the river banks in some foothills skirting the edge of one of the mountain valleys. They choose their position well, its fairly hard to gain access to with a large number of vehicles, only a few armored units could make that terrain. However, even then they can avoid a fight altogether if they see it coming."

Pointing out on the map where the mountain pass intersected the foothills beside the encampment the Commander continued. "Situated here is an old Chromian city. They're a humanoid wormlike people who build their cities into the mountains themselves. This one has been abandoned due to the mountains isolated nature from other communities. The cave systems and tunnels dug throughout it are terrifying maze like and their entrances are too small to send in heavy artillery or tanks. Its our fear if we launch a large scale assault on the enemy they'll flee in there and it would take weeks if not even months to flesh them out."

Which left him to turn back to the gathered Padawans as he finished explaining the situation. "This is where you come in. With the force all of you are much more capable of handling yourselves in a tough situation than would an infantry strike unit. That is also why so many of you were gathered to accompany a single Knight on the assignment. The enemy force should have no heavy weapons and no access to vehicles since its the same issues we have. As such the only real threat is the dark clad figure, which is who our Jedi knight friend will deal with personally. . . . . .however the objective is for us to take these people alive. Republic PR as well as Intelligence Operatives are really pressuring us on this. We can't be seen to slaughter criminals when we ought to put them through a fair trial, and if this is a Sith backed operation and not just a rogue dark jedi our Intelligence Department wishes to know."

This was probably where there might be some complaints, but nonetheless Thayne decided to wrap it up. "So in accordance with this all of your lightsabers, including Master Rafeesh's, have been modified. While Republic Engineers will restore them to normal after the operation, for now they will not have their cutting power or killing ability without a full set of tools. They can still deflect blaster bolts without worry, but a strike to the enemy's person will merely numb their nerves and render them immobile. A blow to the head will knock them out for considerable time. This was done so none of you have to worry about striking the enemy as needed without concern in killing them, thus we ensure your safety as well as appease the Intel Division and Senate PR. Everything is ready for the mission so once we're done here you will depart. We have a Dropship prepared and ready for lift off for you. Its auto-pilot has been rigged to take you down just shy of the encampment. Once we're done here I'll be returning to the bridge, so I hope you all remember the way to the hanger from the map I showed you? If there's no questions I just need to take Master Rafeesh aside to the next room to go over an issue I have with the operation before you depart for the planet."

There was a lot going on as Sai Fel stood there looking at some of the equipment she had set up and brought with herself. The light armor was a nice snug fit while she was checking the other gear and the rebreather mask. Sliding onto the utility belt the hand axe and glow rod, the tensai pouches filled with power packs and the other equipment before she was looking over the gloves and the wrist weapon systems of the armor. Her attention going to the mission briefing while she sat back down clenching her fists over the training saber for her own use. The field pistol in its holster on her hip, the incineration pistol secured and finally she was sliding the sonic shotgun to the small of her back walking forward. She didn't know what the others were going to do but securing some of the gear as she finished up.

Maxumus looked around the room as the briefing started, listening to what the commander had to say. The part about his sabers being downgraded annoyed him, but their wasn't much he could do about that. The mission would take it's time, and he had to follow orders, even if he believed differently about the matter. He gripped his dual sabers tightly, as if they were comforting him somehow.

Rafeesh had listened to the briefing. While he had been concerned with the idea of weakening the lightsabers of the padawans, as it was one of the foundations of the Jedi and one of the more important defenses for these padawans, the Knight had come to the understanding and decided that it was best to follow along. This would be a most interesting method of testing, almost on par with the old Jedi Trials. It was all very nostalgic, even the ship they were on was of the sort that he had flown on before. This had been one of the backbone craft of the Old Republic and this one's floor plan was about the same. He had found that he could move around with the need for the map.

Now that the padawans were up to speed he needed to talk to [member="Dallen Thayne"]. This mission would not be easy for the padawans and Rafeesh had his concerns about the contact that they would have with the Dark Side. The Trials of old had been more demanding of the padawans due to the fact that there had been a war against a solely Sith element. The current state of affairs did not have that same necessity that the Old Republic had. This was a method that he would not have thought of, but it was close enough to the trials that he believed it would be incredibly effective at deciding who was strong.

When the Captain had concluded the preliminary briefing, laying out the details of their newest assignment, Vor'en found himself wordlessly rising from the ivory bench. There was nothing more that he could add, to what had already been said. Though were they under different circumstances, and the Kel Dor was able to voice his concerns freely, there would've been more to say. He was unphased by the limitations they had placed upon the other Padawans and himself, as the Son of Dorin wasn't a fan of taking lives without exploring the other paths first. In fact, he relished the comfort such a change had given him. Though, he knew that he was alone in that regard. The others held an air of resentment about their clouded minds, and the Padawan knew such an infestation would only fester once given cause to root. Hopefully, during the course of this raid, the Padawan would be able to dissuade his comrades from acting rashly, and with such unwarranted violence when they had subdued One of their targets. As he had hidden his distaste behind the guarded veil of his conscious mind, none save for the Kel Dor would be able to glean the rising concern for the other Padawans surrounding him.

Breathing in a mouthful of filtered air, the Jedi Apprentice grabs his discarded robe and drapes its darkened fabric over his athletic frame. The others would no doubt depart for the armory, and equip themselves with whatever trinkets they brought with them. Vor'en, on the other hand, had everything he required - and more. The utility belt lashed to his waist already contained all the survival gear that was needed to last out in the densely packed thicket of trees, should anything go wrong and he was separated from the group. They had even supplied him with additional modules for his Anti-tox mask; that would allow him to utilize his Rebreather underwater and operate freely in the darkness of the tunnels with low-light filters for his protective goggles. Then there was the Symbol of the Order. Yes, it wasn't much of a weapon when the training safeguard was locked into place, but such a devastating weapon could be used for other purposes. Like lighting his way, should the filters fail, or perhaps something more rudimentary - like acting as a Hammer should he not find a rock strong enough for the unseen task at hand.

Now adorned in his chestnut-hued cloak, the Padawan offers up a courteous bow to both the Republic Captain and the Jedi Knight, before exiting the Ready Room. With the sounds of his leather boots kissing the metallic deck acting as his sole companion, the Kel Dor makes his way towards the Hangar Deck and the transport that awaited them thereafter.

With a look over the Padawans as they departed, the Republic Commander couldn't help but grin slightly as he lowered his face. It was a rather intriguing variation between them all. Sai Fel was certainly rather well equipped, even with the modifications made to their lightsabers Dallen had to worry a little if she might hurt anyone in battle. Well a medic on hand could be enough to take care of things. In all honesty he was more worried for the other two. Maxumus appeared tense, it was hard to tell when the Padawan was wearing a mask like he was. It made him a wild card even though he wasn't carrying a blaster like the Fel girl was. Still, the one the officer felt the most compelled to watch was the Kel Dor. There was no doubt when things went underway he would be the most well behaved at first, but in the face of adversity when they encountered the unknown element how he reacted was bound to be the most interesting. As would Sai and Maxumus' own reactions if things managed to get that far, Dallen hoped to be pleasantly surprised.

Putting it all aside though, Dallen turned to the Jedi Knight and motioned for Rafeesh to follow him. Leading him down the corridor outside the bridge. "You know I have to say I'm a little nervous about doing all this. . . . they're young and not only is their ability in question, but the fact many lives ride on them may be too much to count on their adherence to the Jedi Code. . . .well at least we'll find out soon right? As for the issue that's come up, I have everything set for you to check out in a room up ahead. I hope the Padawans are ready, they had the trip here to get acquainted, but I don't get the feeling they looked too close on the bridge."

The padawans had promise, they all had the Light in them and he hoped that it would remain. The Dark Side was not a force to be trifled with, a lesson he had learned both while fighting the Sith and being part of them. Some of these young ones might be more susceptible to the corruptible influence and it would be a good test, he wondered if this would succeed in actually showing which of promising Jedi would be ready. This was a risky game, one that Rafeesh was ready to put a stop to if things fell apart quickly. He could feel the padawans, each one with different thoughts and concerns. He was not experienced in the field of mental exploration using the Force, thus all he felt of the padawans' thoughts were basic emotions. They each had their own distinctions and that made him wonder if one or two of them would have difficulty with the coming trial.

Rafeesh did not speak on his concerns, the Force was guiding each of these padawans on their own journey. They would each experience something unique and that would hopefully give them a lesson as to the nature of the darkness within themselves. It was trying to show them the evil that lay in their own hearts, that was the true goal of this mission. Sith would always play on that and they would hopefully learn to defend themselves from it over the course of this trial. "Time will tell. Each of these ones have promise, I hope they will stand true. I am nervous as well, even in the Old Republic such trials were often held with a Master nearby. I believe that this will do well though, trust the Force, everything will go to its plan."

Sai was watching it all and more interested in getting in and sliding along then anything. She had the equipment and compared to many others she had the formal training from the Fel Empire and knew how to move around wearing bulkier armor. She could make it work before and now well now she had even better equipment. Taking a small page from some of the books while her attention went to finishing the gear placement while activating the null chip to reduce the weight to almost nothing. SHe looked at the other ones there and shook her head to rustle the bangs of her hair out of the way "alright lets go have some fun." She was kind of wishing her friend was here and a few others but hey were back home.

Maxumus left the meeting room just after the Kel Dor. He decided to follow the man, as he didn't really have an idea of what to do. The ship was large, yet Maxumus felt almost trapped within it, unsure of what to do next. Besides, it might give him the chance to have a conversation with the padawan, get his prospective on things.

Pausing as he let Rafeesh pass him by while he opened the door to the conference room, the Republic Commander took a moment to sigh as he keyed in the code and watched the Jedi Knight enter ahead of him. "Yes, everything according to plan. Soon things will become very chaotic, but for now they are indeed going exactly as planned." Moving close behind, Dallen lowered his hand to his side as the Jedi just in front of him stepped into the room, and by doing so stepped within the boundary of the Ysalamir's force bubble, the small creature tucked away with its nutrient cage behind a wall panel just across the room out of sight. Dallen knew the Padawans would notice Rafeesh's force signature disappearing as the ysalamir's bubble created the encompassing void around him, so there wasn't much time to act. Rafeesh's presence for the rest of the mission put too many dents in their plan. For the sake of ensuring everything continued going as planned, the officer's hand drew forth one of his blaster pistols quickly as he pulled the trigger twice, putting a pair of blaster bolts into the Knight's back. "Don't worry, I'll be sure to take good care of the Padawans during your absence for the remainder of the mission. I will make sure to give them full measure."

Regardless of everything else though, the Republic Commander thumbed his comlink as he sent an alert to the shipboard security. Just in case.

The first event that Rafeesh noticed was the disappearance of his connection with the Force. It surprised him, that it was even possible to cut a person off from the Force. During the days of the Old Republic there had been no real knowledge of the Ysalamir or any creature that could accomplish such a feat. For a moment he wondered what these creatures could do in the will of the Force. He could remember reading of a creature that nullified the Force, during his time in the new Jedi Temple. It had been most intriguing.

Any more thought on the purpose of the Ysalamir or the plan was cut short when he felt two sharp pains radiate out from his back. He barely recognized the pain, a blaster shot. Only once or twice had he suffered that fate, both times had been so many years ago that the sting with the memories was long gone. Now it was renewed and he remembered why the blaster was such a crew weapon. The searing agony was followed by weakness, a weakness that he had felt a touch of more than once in his past. Torture under the Sith had left him near death on many occasions, then there had been the cryogenic chamber. Admittedly one had been more painful than the other, but the result had been much the same. He would have called to the Force to repress the pain, to make the wounds easier to bear, but there was no purpose, the Force was not able to help him here.

Rafeesh felt a peace, knowing that the Force had a plan for each of the padawans. The future would show what they were and while he would not be able to help them that they were in better hands than his own. He nodded as he fell forward, probably a gesture lost in the movement of his whole body, but there was no helping that. He could already feel the loss of control in his various body parts. The numbness mixed with pain, along with a strange sense of delirium, he recognized from previous experience. At least he would have had he not been loosing track of his thoughts. The gentle slope to death, it was much like how he had felt when going into the suspended animation chamber, but this was not that. This was far more serious than simply being frozen for years.

If he could have, he might have said something. Probably for [member="Dallen Thayne"] to watch his back, or to take care of the padawans. He held no grudge for the pain or its meaning, this was all part of a greater plan and perhaps when he had died and moved on he would understand it better. But for now he would accept his fate and know that the padawans would have to prove themselves in a manner that they would probably never have expected. He mentally wished them good luck, a gesture that they would never know he had done, as his mind finally blacked out.

[member="Sai Fel"] [member="Maxumus Corvus"] [member="Vor'en Chegor"]

As the doors had parted to permit the Son of Dorin access to the ancillary corridors outside of the ready room, he had felt that his solitary voyage was no longer meant to be taken alone. In the act of tossing his shrouded gaze over his shoulder, Vor'en had noticed that he was now accompanied by a Padawan, who bore the affectation of Maximus Corvus. Like the Kel Dor, the Human had chosen to masque his features, although the Exemplar felt that such a guise was more for cosmetic reasons than to rescue him from the poisons that lurked all around his person.

With the mouth grille affixed to his face, thus denying him the chance to proffer the pleasantries having human features could provide, the Kel Dor projected the sensation of friendly-ness through the Force. It was all he could do to show the man that it was a pleasure to stalk the halls of the Testament wth more amicable company than the sound of his boots. Just as Maximus had fallen into step with Vor'en, there was a moment when the Exemplar could sense the man's intentions forming across the surface of his thoughts. From what the Son of Dorin could divine, the man wished to speak about what lay ahead and garner his perspective on things.

Amused by the forming notion, the Padawan thought of entertaining the idea. And so, with the decision made, the Kel Dor slips the baggy cloth of his robes behind himself and folds his tri-taloned fingers atop the other, firmly gripping the flesh of his hands just above the small of his back.

"It is said, that before darkness had claimed the galaxy, thousands of generations of Jedi had kept the peace in the Old Republic when their established enforcement agencies spread out across the stars were unable to do so."

He paused for a moment, turning his silvered gaze towards the illuminated ceiling, before continuing to give voice to what he believed was his perspective regarding their newest assignment.

"Even though the Old Republic is nothing more than a fading memory, I suppose that it falls to us - the latest generation of Ashla's Acolytes - to take up our Order's fallen mantle of responsibility, and yoke our connection to the Force for the good of others. I can understand why the Republic and other such governmental bodies like it have taken the heavy handed approach when dealing with such seditious souls. They're beset upon all sides by the One Sith, and struggling to survive in the face of such mindless aggression. So, when an insect begins to gnaw away at the hem of your tunic, your instinctual deed is to either take its life away with the killing blow or shoo it away, No? The same principle can, therefore, be applied to these vagabonds we've been assigned to detain. Were it not for the cavernous terrain underneath, I would expect that the most zealous souls aboard this ship would've carpet bombed the base into oblivion and moved on."

Vor'en chuckled then. Not because the thought of such wide-spread devastation had amused his empathic psyche, but due to the Force itself demanding that Jedi assail the Pirates below - so that they may be taken alive and face justice for whatever crimes they have committed. It was always entertaining to see how the Force worked in its mysterious ways.

"Thus leading me to my point, since I've probably bored you to tears with my errant musings. I see this as a step in the right direction for us all, and I am honoured to have been chosen from the pool of eager applicants."

The Kel Dor's mood had soured, almost instantaneously, and his gaze fell back towards the adjoining corridors leading back towards the ready room. His taloned hands fell loosely to his side, and the chestnut threaded fabric of his robes engulfed the tension-riddled fists. Something was wrong. While he was a Jedi Padawan, the Son of Dorin was well versed in the aspects of pouring his essence outwards to be mindful of his surroundings. In an instant, a hole in his etheric sight had formed. It was as if someone had opened the doorway to nothingness, and the void itself had stared back. Vor'en couldn't determine exactly where this vacuum of power had formed, but its definitive lack of presence alone was enough to warrant alarm.

"Something's amiss." He said vacantly, intending the words to be comprehended by no-one in particular. "Did you see the girl and our Knight-advisor leave the Ready room?"

| [member="Dallen Thayne"] | [member="Rafeesh"] | [member="Maxumus Corvus"] | [member="Sai Fel"] |

Maxumus listened to the Kel Dor as he match his walking speed, intrigued at what he was saying. He hadn't studied the history of the galaxy before, but he always found it fascinating to hear about it.

"You warn't boring me at all, I was actually quite enjoying hearing about the Jedi of old. I'm guessing that you are going to become a historian for the order? And no, I didn't see where the knight went, however the girl did leave the meeting room, said something about having some fun."

He then felt an odd sensation, like a hole had been opened in the force itself. It was the feeling of power, and it felt good. He knew that such things were dangerous and giving in to such power could turn him completely.

"I sense it too. Perhaps we should find our comrades and find out what this disturbance is."

[member="Dallen Thayne"] [member="Rafeesh"] [member="Sai Fel"] [member="Vor'en Chegor"]

Looking at the ones while she was moving and listening to them speak.... They were strange, a lot of attention on some of the things. "You guys are really weird." She said it while blowing a bang out of her face with a nod of her head and she was ready to begin. They were dragging their feet.... this was the jedi. You needed to do something otherwise you were just getting boring all over the place before she was ready with her sonic shotgun and rotating the wrist tubes with the different weapons showing. "Lets go and see what we can do, there is a paddle beamer with someones name on it for dealing with the hard stuff they have to do."

[member="Sai Fel"] [member="Maxumus Corvus"] [member="Vor'en Chegor"]

Adjusting his glasses as he stared at the Jedi Knight's body, the Republic Commander stepped around to the side of Rafeesh's prone form as he kept his blaster trained on the Zabraak while he hooked a booted foot beneath his side and rolled the unmoving figure over. Glasses glinting beneath the harsh light of the conference room, Dallen contented himself that Rafeesh would not be participating in mission anymore. Now he merely had prepare the environment for the guest of honor to make his appearance. First though, he likely had to deal with the Padawans if they were rushing to investigate the loss of the Jedi Knight's presence in the force. Security wouldn't be too far behind them if they didn't hurry, which would only put things more in his favor. It left the question if he ought to meet everyone coming to his location halfway or stay.

Stepping deeper into the room, the Republic officer decided it was best to stay where he was. If the Padawans became. . . . .violent over their Master's disappearance, then he wanted to have the benefit of the Ysalamir to keep them from acting up. If they stepped into the room after him they would become weak. Not that they would know until it was too late though. Regardless they probably wouldn't even enter the room after seeing Rafeesh's body. After all, they wouldn't know about the Ysalamir and could only assume he somehow had the ability or skill to take down a Knight on his own. Which ought to dissuade them from taking action anyway.

So, he mused, She was behind us after all. It was strange how he didn't notice her at first, though he expected that was because he had nearly lost himself in his studious ramblings. He was told that sometimes happened whenever the Kel Dor was struck by the flickering ebb of passion such knowledge brought. However, as the girl had been found and was indeed following them in the first place, that left only the whereabouts of their Knight-Advisor shrouded in mystery. Perhaps he was still in the Ready Room, speaking with the Captain about their upcoming assignment. But why would they need to embrace such secrecy, were they worried that the Padawans would derive the answers through the subtle manipulations of their powers? It seemed so, due to the suspicious nature of their private conversation.

Nevertheless, he was curious and had wanted some answers. However, he was unnerved by the responses of his comrades. So eager to jump directly onto the violent path. What has the Order become in the days since his master's death? Swallowing his disappointment before it could be sensed by the others, the Kel Dor slowly began to move back down the corridor from whence they came.

"The Force..." He said, mouthing each word as it slipped through his filtration mask. "It feels cold... as if the light itself has been snuffed out."

He didn't know what this sensation was, and to be honest - he didn't like it in the slightest. He wished to be rid of it, to banish this frigid void from his etheric sight. However, it wasn't that easy. As he steadily approached the final corridor, Vor'en begun to feel his fingers numbing - the power that resided within slowly being stripped away. He had to trust his instincts, and they screamed at Padawan as his obsidian talons scraped the edges of the dampening bubble.

"I've got a terribly bad feeling about this."

| [member="Dallen Thayne"] | [member="Sai Fel"] | [member="Maxumus Corvus"] | [member="Rafeesh"] |

She was looking at them and listening while feeling the force. Eneregies working on different things while the calming effects of the crystals made her subdued and focused on everything she could see. her shotgun at the ready just in case while she waited a moment and prepared cocking it with the sounds of the power cell revving up. Then there was something coming from one of the padawans while watching it.... she could feel it now hefting the shotgun up and clipping the micro grenade launcher onto the underside in case they really needed to handle things. She'd just sort of solve the problems with explosions and shooting things. "You know that is like the second worse thing to say... would have been easier to just go and investigate a strange sound."

Maxumus waits for his companions to stop talking before looking up and down the corridor. The ship itself seemed to be a colder place, as if some power had frozen it to it's core.

"We should find out what's going on, maybe the Captain will know something. Or we could wait it out, see what happens." As he speaks, he removes one of his sabers, keeping it close to his body in case anything should suddenly appear. He was also trying to find the Jedi Knight through the force at the same time, however the hole in the force that had appeared was making this task extremely hard for him.

Standing within the room when the Padawans arrived, the Republic Commander would push up his glasses as he frowned at the young Jedi and addressed them. "I believe you Padawans were supposed to be preparing to get aboard the transport to head to the surface. I thought the jedi order trained you all to be more punctual about following your master's commands." Moving to nudge the body of the fallen Jedi Knight, Dallen sighed before offering the assorted Padawans a weak smile as he kept his eyes on them closely. He didn't believe they would attack him, after all by all appearances he was capable of overpowering a Jedi Knight, posing a threat to lesser apprentices such as themselves, and it not then they surely were cautious about any tricks he must have up his sleeve.

However, if that weren't enough. "This isn't the best place to be exactly either young ones. Someone sent the onboard contingent a peculiar set of security footage of you all using the force to stop Master Rafeesh's heart. I imagine someone must have paid a ridiculous sum of credits for a slicer to create such interesting scenes. Yet, it seems to have paid off since troopers will be here shortly to take you into custody. I suggest you wait to turn yourselves in or get going to begin the foolish chase before my men arrive. The choice is yours."

Death can be felt as a ripple in the Force, both Force sensitives and those that did not feel the Force would affect the Force. Those attuned to it would sense those changes and even more so with those that they were close to. Often siblings could feel the death of their brother or sister, Force sensitive couples might sense the death of their loved one. But there was a difference when the death took place in an area where one could not effect the Force. The death of the Knight would have been nigh impossible to feel, except that Oculte was close to Rafeesh.

The traitor had gone through with his business, that was good. If the plan continued as it should, the padawans should begin their escape, into his domain. Chased by the Republic and only the Sith as a friend they would learn soon enough that they must embrace the darkness. The Jedi had believed this would be a test of the padawan's conviction to the Light, well know it was a test of intelligence. Would they give into the darkness and if so how long would it take? Or would they remain true to the Light, there would probably be some way of getting help on the planet, more than on a ship full of people who are against you. This would be fun.
