  • Ossuary Nexus: The skull of Gaius Zhuta serves as a reservoir of Dark Side energy, accumulating power through life-draining rituals and the absorption of spiritual essence. Stored energy can be expended to amplify Sith sorcery, sustain necromantic constructs, or fuel particularly demanding rituals.
  • Dominion of the Restless Dead: The scepter facilitates the creation, preservation, and coordination of undead servants. Its wielder can establish psychic connections with reanimated soldiers, issue commands across an entire undead formation, and temporarily preserve the spirits of particularly powerful servants following their physical destruction.
  • Profane Dominion: By planting the scepter into the ground and performing the necessary incantations, its wielder can establish a localized domain of Dark Side influence. Within this domain, the scepter's powers of fear, corruption, mental domination, and necromancy are amplified. The domain can be reinforced through additional ritual anchors.
  • The Torment of Gaius Zhuta: The lingering consciousness of Gaius Zhuta remains imprisoned within his skull. His memories and spiritual awareness can be exploited to detect Force presences, investigate supernatural disturbances, and recover knowledge inaccessible through conventional interrogation. Despite his imprisonment, Gaius retains a limited capacity to resist the scepter's wielder.
  • Grimoire Unbound: Additional layers of Sith runes inscribed upon the scepter preserve prepared incantations, allowing its wielder to invoke previously established spells with considerably less preparation. More elaborate rituals require greater expenditures of stored energy and may necessitate the scepter remaining stationary.
  • Shroud of Darkness: The scepter can project concentrated waves of Dark Side energy or generate persistent clouds of supernatural darkness. These clouds obscure visibility, instill fear, and disrupt enemy coordination while concealing the movements of undead servants.
  • Knowledge Absorption: Through the consumption of spiritual essence and the extraction of memories, the scepter can accumulate knowledge from its victims. These memories are preserved within the Ossuary Nexus and may subsequently be examined by its wielder.
  • Mental Domination: The scepter amplifies its wielder's capacity to invade, manipulate, and dominate the minds of others. Selected subjects can be bound through enduring psychic connections, permitting the transmission of commands across considerable distances.
  • Memory Manipulation: The scepter facilitates the alteration, suppression, and implantation of memories. Its wielder may implant dormant compulsions that activate when predetermined conditions are fulfilled.
  • Life Siphoning: The scepter can drain vitality from living beings and redistribute the stolen energy to its wielder, allied Force-users, or necromantic constructs. Excess energy can be deposited within the Ossuary Nexus.
  • Electrical Grounding: Its alchemically reinforced construction allows the scepter to channel and ground electrical discharges. A limited quantity of absorbed energy can be temporarily retained and subsequently released as a concentrated discharge.
  • Alchemical Reinforcement: The scepter's construction has been strengthened through Sith alchemy, granting it substantial resistance to conventional weapons and allowing it to withstand direct contact with lightsaber blades.

  • Potent Sith Sorcery: Constructed primarily from Zîrkaris, with supplementary Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits and Obsidian Voidshard inlays, the Scepter of Maenan Gramarye substantially amplifies its wielder's proficiency in Sith magic. It is particularly effective at necromancy, mental domination, spiritual manipulation, and rituals involving the extraction and redistribution of life energy.
  • Ossuary Nexus: The skull of Gaius Zhuta serves as a reservoir of accumulated Dark Side energy, strengthened by the energy-storing properties of Blood-Forged Aurodium. The scepter can absorb spiritual essence, suffering, and life energy, preserving this power for subsequent use in demanding rituals, prolonged spellcasting, and the maintenance of necromantic constructs.
  • Necromantic Supremacy: The scepter excels at the creation, preservation, and coordination of undead servants. Its wielder can establish psychic connections with entire formations of reanimated soldiers, transmit commands across considerable distances, and temporarily preserve the spirits of particularly powerful servants following the destruction of their physical bodies.
  • Profane Dominion: By planting the scepter into the ground and performing the necessary incantations, its wielder can establish a localized domain of concentrated Dark Side influence. Within this domain, the scepter's powers of fear, corruption, mental domination, and necromancy are amplified, while allied undead servants benefit from its sustaining energies. Additional ritual anchors can expand and reinforce the domain.
  • Grimoire Unbound: The scepter's Zîrkaris construction and Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits are inscribed with layers of Sith runes capable of preserving prepared incantations. These enchantments allow its wielder to invoke previously established spells with considerably less preparation, reducing the time and concentration ordinarily required for complex Sith sorcery.
  • Spiritual Exploitation: The imprisoned consciousness of Gaius Zhuta, together with the memories and spiritual remnants accumulated within the Ossuary Nexus, provides an extensive repository of supernatural knowledge. Its wielder can interrogate these accumulated consciousnesses, extract information, investigate supernatural disturbances, and exploit the spiritual awareness of the imprisoned dead.
  • Psychic Subjugation: The scepter amplifies its wielder's capacity for mental domination, memory manipulation, and the implantation of compulsions. Selected subjects can be bound through enduring psychic connections, allowing commands to be transmitted across considerable distances. The disruptive properties of its Obsidian Voidshard inlays can further interfere with the concentration of nearby opponents, making susceptible individuals more vulnerable to mental intrusion.
  • Life-Energy Redistribution: The scepter can drain vitality from living beings and redistribute the stolen energy to replenish its wielder, sustain allied Force-users, empower undead servants, or replenish the Ossuary Nexus. Its Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits facilitate the collection, storage, and transmission of this energy.
  • Supernatural Concealment: The scepter can generate persistent clouds of supernatural darkness that obscure visibility, instill fear, and interfere with enemy coordination. Its Obsidian Voidshard inlays additionally distort hostile Force perception and precognition within their effective range, complicating attempts to anticipate its wielder's movements or accurately target concealed undead formations.
  • Alchemical Durability: The scepter's Zîrkaris construction provides exceptional resistance to conventional weapons, lightsabers, and other forms of physical damage. Its alchemically reinforced structure can withstand considerable punishment without compromising its integrity. Minor fractures and superficial damage can gradually regenerate through the material's inherent Dark Side properties.
  • Electrical Resistance: The conductive properties of Zîrkaris allow the scepter to channel, ground, and temporarily retain electrical energy, including Sith Lightning. Absorbed energy can subsequently be redirected through the scepter and released as a concentrated discharge, provided its storage capacity has not been exceeded.
  • Perceptual Distortion: The Obsidian Voidshards incorporated into the scepter's crown interfere with hostile Force perception, precognition, and concentration. These effects can disrupt an opponent's ability to anticipate attacks, perceive supernatural disturbances, or maintain precise control over demanding Force techniques within the shards' effective range.
  • Bonded Wielder: Despite the exceptional density and considerable physical mass of its Zîrkaris construction, the scepter feels nearly weightless to its properly bonded wielder. This allows the artifact to be wielded with relative ease without sacrificing the formidable durability and physical striking power of its constituent material.

  • Force Suppression: Force-nullifying phenomena, including void stone, Force-dead zones, and sufficiently powerful suppression techniques, can interfere with or temporarily disable the scepter's supernatural abilities. Although Zîrkaris may retain a residual metaphysical reaction under suppression, its presence does not render the artifact immune. The supernatural properties of its Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits are particularly vulnerable to Force-dead environments, potentially disabling the Ossuary Nexus's energy-transfer functions and preventing the invocation of stored incantations.
  • Vulnerability to Force Light: Although its Zîrkaris construction provides considerable resistance to hostile Force energies, the scepter remains vulnerable to powerful applications of Force Light. Sustained or concentrated exposure can disrupt its Dark Side enchantments, weaken its necromantic constructs, interfere with the Ossuary Nexus, and destabilize its Profane Dominion. Particularly powerful applications may temporarily suppress several of its supernatural abilities simultaneously.
  • Battle Meditation: Jedi Battle Meditation and comparable techniques that strengthen collective resolve can help opposing forces resist the fear, confusion, and mental interference generated by the scepter. Although its Obsidian Voidshards may interfere with the concentration of nearby Force-users, their limited effective range prevents them from automatically disrupting large-scale Battle Meditation conducted from a safe distance.
  • Spiritual Saturation: The Ossuary Nexus possesses a finite capacity for storing Dark Side energy and stolen consciousness. Excessive accumulation can destabilize its enchantments, potentially causing uncontrolled magical discharges, spiritual manifestations, or rebellion among its imprisoned spirits. Its Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits cannot eliminate this limitation, and attempting to force additional energy into an already saturated reservoir risks damaging the artifact's supernatural functions.
  • Ritual Dependency: The scepter's most formidable large-scale abilities require preparation, substantial energy expenditure, and uninterrupted concentration. Its Profane Dominion cannot be established instantaneously, while its most elaborate incantations may require the wielder to remain stationary. Interrupting these rituals can prevent their completion, regardless of the scepter's capacity to amplify Sith sorcery.
  • The Martyr's Defiance: The consciousness of Gaius Zhuta has never been completely subjugated. He retains the capacity to resist his imprisonment and interfere with the scepter's workings, particularly when its enchantments are strained or its wielder attempts to commit atrocities reminiscent of his own suffering. The accumulation of additional spiritual remnants within the Ossuary Nexus creates further opportunities for Gaius to exploit instability or encourage resistance among the imprisoned dead.
  • Disruptible Ritual Anchors: The Profane Dominion relies upon the scepter and any supplementary ritual anchors used to sustain it. Destroying, suppressing, or otherwise disrupting these anchors weakens the domain, potentially causing its complete collapse. The exceptional durability of the scepter itself does not extend to every external anchor or ritual component.
  • Finite Energy Reserves: Neither Zîrkaris nor Blood-Forged Aurodium provides the scepter with an inexhaustible supply of supernatural energy. Prolonged spellcasting, extensive necromantic operations, and repeated large-scale rituals can exhaust the Ossuary Nexus, requiring additional energy or sacrifices to replenish its reserves. Its wielder must consequently balance the expenditure of stored power against the demands of maintaining existing enchantments and undead servants.
  • Psychic Resistance: Individuals possessing exceptional mental discipline, powerful Force defenses, or natural resistance to mental intrusion can resist or diminish the scepter's attempts at domination, memory manipulation, and spiritual exploitation. Its Obsidian Voidshards can disrupt hostile concentration but cannot guarantee the successful subjugation of an otherwise resistant individual.
  • Detectable Dark Side Presence: The combined supernatural properties of Zîrkaris, Blood-Forged Aurodium, and the Ossuary Nexus cause the scepter to radiate an exceptionally powerful Dark Side presence. This signature becomes increasingly conspicuous as the artifact accumulates stolen energy or performs demanding rituals. Although its Obsidian Voidshards can interfere with localized Force perception, they cannot completely conceal the artifact's presence from sufficiently powerful or distant Force-sensitive observers.
  • Concentration and Coordination: Although the scepter facilitates the command of large undead formations, coordinating substantial numbers of independent constructs imposes a considerable mental burden upon its wielder. Disrupting their concentration can temporarily impair control over these forces, potentially leaving individual constructs disorganized or vulnerable to hostile interference.
  • Electrical Capacity: The scepter can absorb and redirect only a limited quantity of electrical energy. Discharges exceeding its capacity must be grounded or dispersed, while attempting to retain excessive energy risks overloading its conductive enchantments and injuring its wielder. Its electrical absorption capabilities do not provide universal protection against all forms of energy-based attacks.
  • Hunger of the Blood-Forged: The Blood-Forged Aurodium incorporated into the scepter requires periodic exposure to suffering and Dark Side energies to maintain its full supernatural potency. Extended deprivation gradually diminishes its effectiveness, weakening its energy-storage properties, ritual amplification, and ability to preserve prepared curses. Although the underlying Zîrkaris structure remains intact, the scepter's more elaborate supernatural functions may become increasingly unreliable until its conduits are replenished.
  • Irreversible Forging: Once the Blood-Forged Aurodium has been incorporated into the scepter, it cannot be reforged without destroying its supernatural essence. Likewise, although Zîrkaris permits additional rune refinement, its underlying composition cannot be substantially altered without compromising its established properties. Significant structural modifications or the replacement of damaged internal components may therefore require extensive alchemical reconstruction.
  • Limited Perceptual Interference: The Obsidian Voidshards incorporated into the crown possess a localized effective range. Their capacity to distort hostile Force perception and precognition diminishes with distance and can be overcome by sufficiently powerful or sustained Force techniques. They do not provide complete invisibility, universal protection against precognition, or immunity to attacks directed through ordinary physical senses.
  • Wielder Dependency: Many of the scepter's most sophisticated functions require active direction by a sufficiently knowledgeable practitioner of Sith sorcery. Its formidable material properties do not independently grant an inexperienced wielder mastery of necromancy, spiritual manipulation, or large-scale rituals. Furthermore, the near-weightless handling afforded by its bonded construction does not necessarily extend to unauthorized individuals, who must contend with the substantial physical weight of its exceptionally dense Zîrkaris structure.

The Scepter of Maenan Gramarye is an immensely powerful instrument of Sith sorcery, fashioned from the remains of a murdered holy man and subsequently transformed into one of the most formidable artifacts in the personal arsenal of Darth Carnifex. Born of the alchemical craftsmanship of Darth Yaomo and perfected through the Dark Lord's own mastery of Sith magic, the scepter embodied the union of necromancy, spiritual subjugation, and the corruptive properties of the Dark Side. Its name derived from gramarye, an archaic term for black magic in the old tongue of the galaxy, an appropriate designation for an instrument whose very existence represented the desecration of life and the enslavement of death.

The artifact's origins could be traced to the planet Maena and the religious purges undertaken by Matsu Xiangu, otherwise known as Darth Yaomo. Among those who resisted the encroachment of the Dark Side was Gaius Zhuta, a pious man whose refusal to submit ultimately condemned him to a particularly gruesome fate. Zhuta was burned alive, his remains subsequently stripped of flesh and subjected to Sith alchemy. His skull was inscribed with runes filled with Xiangu's own blood, awakening a malign consciousness within the bone and transforming it into a vessel of supernatural corruption. Although his body had been destroyed, Zhuta's spirit remained imprisoned within his desecrated remains, condemned to endure the very darkness he had resisted in life.

In the year 850 ABY, the skull was presented to Darth Carnifex as a gift from Darth Yaomo, accompanied by a personal correspondence expressing her desire to strengthen the relationship between House Xiangu and House Zambrano. The artifact arrived enclosed within an ornate black-and-gold box, its contents so thoroughly saturated with malignant energy that two of the three servants attending Carnifex were reportedly driven mad upon its unveiling. The Dark Lord himself, protected by his natural resistance to mental intrusion, remained unaffected by its psychological influence. Recognizing the potential of the skull, he accepted the gift and immediately undertook a series of experiments intended to discover the full extent of its supernatural properties.

One hundred enslaved individuals were brought before Carnifex and subjected to the skull's influence. Through these experiments, he discovered that the artifact could function as a conduit for Sith sorcery, amplifying the potency of spells channeled directly through it. Those exposed to its corruptive aura experienced escalating paranoia, hallucinations, and an overwhelming compulsion to submit to the will of the skull. Prolonged exposure progressively eroded their mental faculties and physical vitality, eventually transforming them into grotesque, shambling ghouls entirely enthralled by its power. These discoveries convinced Carnifex that the skull's potential extended far beyond its original purpose as an instrument of psychological torment.

The Dark Lord subsequently commissioned the construction of a vessel worthy of the artifact, personally laboring within his alchemical forge to fashion an imposing staff crowned by the skull of Gaius Zhuta. The original shaft was forged from alchemically reinforced metal and immersed within a ritual concoction prepared from Carnifex's own blood. Through successive applications of Sith sorcery, the staff and skull were bound together, their respective enchantments merging into a singular instrument of considerable supernatural potency. Thus was born the Scepter of Maenan Gramarye, an artifact that would accompany the Dark Lord through successive periods of conquest and imperial rule.

In later years, Carnifex undertook an extensive reconstruction of the scepter, incorporating advancements in Kainite alchemy and the development of increasingly sophisticated Dark Side materials. Its original shaft was replaced with a substantially longer construction of Zîrkaris, a formidable alchemical composite wrought from the blackest hate and suffused entirely with the Dark Side. Additional veins of Blood-Forged Aurodium were integrated throughout its interior, forming an intricate network of conduits capable of channeling and preserving considerable quantities of supernatural energy. Obsidian Voidshards were embedded within the elaborate crown surrounding Zhuta's skull, their disruptive properties interfering with hostile Force perception and precognition. The original skull remained intact, preserving both its ancient enchantments and the imprisoned consciousness that constituted the artifact's spiritual foundation.

The reconstructed scepter measured approximately nine and a half feet in length, its elongated shaft fashioned from darkened Zîrkaris and adorned with intricate Sith runes, engraved metallic fittings, and tightly wound bindings. Its most distinctive feature was the skull of Gaius Zhuta, suspended within an elaborate arrangement of blackened metallic prongs that extended upward into two towering, blade-like horns. Beneath the skull, additional curved projections descended toward the shaft, giving the crown the appearance of a sinister, skeletal reliquary. The lower portion of the staff terminated in a sharpened metallic ferrule, permitting the weapon to be planted firmly into the ground during the performance of elaborate rituals. Despite its considerable density and physical mass, the properties of Zîrkaris rendered the scepter remarkably manageable in the hands of its bonded wielder.

At the heart of the reconstructed artifact was the Ossuary Nexus, an elaborate spiritual reservoir centered upon Zhuta's skull and sustained by the surrounding Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits. Through the extraction of life energy, the absorption of suffering, and the consumption of spiritual essence, the scepter could accumulate substantial reserves of Dark Side energy for subsequent use. These reserves enabled its wielder to sustain extensive necromantic operations, amplify demanding incantations, and perform elaborate rituals without relying exclusively upon their immediate reserves of Force energy. The memories and spiritual remnants of those consumed by the artifact were likewise preserved within the Nexus, creating an expanding repository of stolen knowledge and imprisoned consciousnesses.

The scepter's necromantic capabilities were particularly formidable. Through an ability known as the Dominion of the Restless Dead, its wielder could establish psychic connections with entire formations of undead servants, coordinating their movements and transmitting commands across considerable distances. The artifact could sustain reanimated soldiers through the expenditure of stored energy and temporarily preserve the spiritual essence of particularly powerful servants following the destruction of their physical bodies. These capabilities transformed the scepter into an instrument of battlefield command, allowing Carnifex to direct substantial necromantic forces while simultaneously conducting his own acts of Sith sorcery.

Among its most elaborate enchantments was the Profane Dominion, a ritual through which the scepter could establish a localized domain of concentrated Dark Side influence. By planting the staff into the ground and invoking the appropriate incantations, its wielder could gradually saturate the surrounding environment with supernatural corruption. Within the resulting domain, the scepter's powers of fear, mental domination, and necromancy were considerably amplified, while allied undead servants benefited from its sustaining energies. Supplementary ritual anchors could expand and reinforce the affected territory, transforming prepared battlefields, ceremonial chambers, and fortified sanctuaries into formidable centers of Dark Side power. The establishment of such a domain nevertheless demanded substantial preparation and continued expenditure of supernatural energy, while the destruction of its ritual anchors could progressively undermine its stability.

The scepter additionally possessed an extensive collection of inscribed Sith incantations, collectively designated the Grimoire Unbound. Preserved within the runic matrices of its Zîrkaris construction and Blood-Forged Aurodium conduits, these prepared enchantments could be invoked with considerably less preparation than would ordinarily be required. Its wielder could unleash waves of supernatural darkness, manipulate the memories of susceptible individuals, establish enduring psychic compulsions, or redirect accumulated life energy into allied servants and necromantic constructs. The Obsidian Voidshards incorporated into its crown further complicated hostile attempts to anticipate these workings, locally distorting Force perception and interfering with the concentration of nearby opponents.

Despite its formidable capabilities, the scepter remained constrained by the limitations of its constituent materials and the instability of its accumulated spiritual energies. Force-nullifying phenomena could suppress its supernatural functions, while sufficiently powerful applications of Force Light could disrupt its enchantments and weaken the necromantic constructs sustained through its power. The Ossuary Nexus possessed a finite capacity, and excessive accumulation of spiritual essence risked destabilizing the artifact, potentially unleashing uncontrolled magical discharges or provoking rebellion among its imprisoned consciousnesses. Furthermore, the Blood-Forged Aurodium incorporated into its construction required periodic exposure to suffering and Dark Side energies to maintain its full supernatural potency.

Perhaps the scepter's most persistent vulnerability was the consciousness of Gaius Zhuta himself. Although his remains had been desecrated, his spirit imprisoned, and his suffering exploited for generations, the former holy man had never entirely surrendered to the darkness imposed upon him. His awareness lingered within the skull, occasionally manifesting through subtle disturbances in the artifact's supernatural workings. During periods of spiritual instability or particularly demanding rituals, Zhuta could exploit weaknesses in the scepter's enchantments, interfering with its wielder or encouraging resistance among the other imprisoned souls. For all the power Carnifex had accumulated within the artifact, he had never succeeded in completely extinguishing the will of the man whose remains formed its foundation.

When not carried into battle or employed in the performance of Sith rituals, the Scepter of Maenan Gramarye was traditionally housed within a specially constructed containment chamber. The original chamber featured a reinforced glasteel enclosure surrounded by prisoners deliberately exposed to the artifact's corruptive influence. Over time, these unfortunate captives were transformed into ravenous ghouls, their minds consumed by an obsessive desire to possess the scepter that remained perpetually beyond their reach. Subsequent prisoners were introduced to replace those destroyed by their predecessors, the chamber gradually accumulating the skeletal remains of generations of corrupted victims. Following its reconstruction, the scepter's containment facilities were strengthened to accommodate its expanded supernatural capabilities, with additional alchemical wards and containment measures intended to regulate the energies accumulated within the Ossuary Nexus.
