The Bes'hurok (Iron Rock), a heavily modified Maka-Eekai freighter was a comfortable ship so the trip thru the Null Zone and to the Ash Worlds in the Slice was not a hardship even if it was out in the middle of nowhere. He had never been to this area of space before but he had read reports on the planet Mahporieem and the Imperial Remnant located there who had just woken up from their long sleep and had begun to expand.

"We will be coming out of hyperspace in the Weiss System in a moment and will shortly enter the orbit of Mahporieem and request coordinates for Corrox." Echoed a robotic voice via the intercom. Dral-Kar'ta stood and made his way to the bridge. Mahporieem was one of the 'Junk Worlds' known for its abundiant supply of scrap and its shipbreaking yards. By extension it would also be a world with many vintage, mostly intact, vessels. He had been alerted by a traveling salvage merchant that apparently, several hundred years ago, there was a small fleet of old PB-950 patrol Boats awaiting scrapping but in the course of receiving new shipments a former star destroyer was plopped on top of the boats entombing them. Out of sight and out of mind they sat there till just recently the star destroyer was finally broken apart revealing the stash.

Word of such a find very quickly made its way across space to Maridun and to Mando-de'Loren Multi Atmospherics who, as they restored old craft, became very interested and was the reason Dral-kar'ta was walking to the bridge at this very moment. The PB-950 was over three hundred years old at the time of the clone wars and was considered long in the tooth even then but they were tough and reliable with hulls that were neigh on indestructible so soldiered on for many years. It was still possible to find one every once in a wile at some Outer Rim port but after so many centuries they were becoming scarce.

The Mandalorians had no love for the Imperials and the Imperials had even less for the Mandalorians but the possibility of finding several PB-950's all at once was an opportunity too good to resist. Besides he was acting as a representative of MDL and a potential customer and not a Government Official. But he was a Government Official nonetheless and the MIR was in the midst of re-entering the galactic stage. There was an opportunity here not just for junk. He had the ear of the Mand'alor and the Council was interested to know the intentions of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant, which had, all of a sudden it seemed, appeared on the Mandalorians flank. Dral-Kar'ta would inquire about the hulls but he would also keep his eyes and ears open.

Reaching the bridge there was a slight shutter and the star streaks of hyperspace morphed into that of realspace and the planet Mahporeem came into view, the large city of Corrox visible even at this distance. He settled in the captain's chair, a custom designed comfortable affair of chromealloy and Nerf leather from his own ranch, and hailed the surface.

"Corrox Traffic Control, Corrox Traffic Control, This is the Saandyr Clan Vessel out of Maridun requesting clearance to land."

He leaned back into his seat and said to his mostly peaceful security droid.

"Well, Tappo, let us see what kind of reception we receive"

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
CORROX, MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE: MAKE A DEAL!

The Mahporeenian distrust for the Mandalorians was palpable.

As the Mandalorian Empire continued its drift toward the Sith, Mahporeem had become increasingly alarmed by what they were witnessing. Aether Verd Aether Verd 's very public crucifixion of Diarchian soldiers on the holonoet had already soured the Imperial's view of him long before the disastrous Mandalorian-Imperial meeting on the matter, and the Imperial Remnant had only continued to move further and further away from any support of Mandalore. So when Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr had contacted them with a potential business arrangement, it had honestly taken the Imperial Remnant by surprise.

He had come to the Imperial Remnant with a highly unusual request: the acquisition of old PB-950 Patrol Boats that would then be refurbished and refitted for combat usage. In some ways, the Mandalorian's request made sense: the PB-950 was a plentifully available vessel despite its advanced age, in fairly large supply among a former backwater planet like Mahporeem, and famed for its durability and reliability. Yet, by the same token, the vessel was considered practically ancient even by Mahporeenian standards, and was quite outclassed by most more modern designs. Whatever Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr was planning to do to them would almost certainly involve a series of extensive upgrades, though Mahporeem could not say for certain. Regardless, the risk to Imperial operations from selling the vessels to the Mandalorian was seen as fairly minimal, and Mahporeem was curious to see what exactly Dral had in mind. Perhaps they could even copy and produce the design he was to propose themselves.

"Corrox Traffic Control, Corrox Traffic Control, This is the Saandyr Clan Vessel out of Maridun requesting clearance to land."

The request to land had come sooner after initial contact with the Mandalorian, and had been expected by Imperial Remnant forces. After the proper credentials had been verified, traffic control came back with a response.

"Permission granted. You are clear to land at Landing Pad 12. Our starfighters will escort you to your location. Match your trajectory to their landing vectors and follow their lead. Control, out".

A pair of AX-Wings came up beside Dral's ship on either side of him, keeping a watchful eye on the Mandalorian and ensuring he did not make any unauthorized side trips around Mahporeem's numerous orbital facilities. The trio of ships passed by one of Mahporeem's Grandeur-Class Space Command Center before beginning their descent through the planet's atmosphere and onto Landing Pad 12. Ronhar Tane and a pair of Chrome Guardians were already on the ground to greet him. The escorting AX-Wings quickly broke off once Dral landed, and went off somewhere back into space.

Given the state of things between the Imperials and the Mandalorians, Ronhar was unsure of how this meeting would go. Would this be the start of fixing relations between the two factions, or would this attempt at diplomacy simply lead to more conflict and misunderstanding later down the line?

Dral-Kar'ta settled in his chair to wait for the port authorities to process his request to land as, typical of bureaucrats everywhere, such officials were not known for their speedy decisions and tended to only expend effort when making things more difficult and complicated. He had hardly settled before permission was granted and they were informed that they would be escorted by fighters.

He looked at Tappo and Tappo looked at him. "That was fast." Dral-Kar'ta said to his robotic companion. "Fly casual… but not too casual."

Tappo looked away to process the comment and looked back. "I do not know what that means." He stated in blunt droid fashion.

"I don't either. I heard it used once and thought it sounded wizard. Just don't annoy the fighters. I just had the hull buffed and don't want any blaster marks." He replied.

He would have loved to engage the scanners and get reading of the shipping and surface data but he did not want to be provocative. Instead, he peered out of the bridge windows.

"They have funny looking ships. The fighters look like an ATAT and a TIE had a baby."

Without looking up Tappo responded. "Actually, as neither is an organic form that would be an impossibility. The engineering principles behind the construction are quite sound. The assumed capabilities of such a craft in comparison to the resources expended in construction are estimated to be at 68 percent efficiency…" Tappo looked up and saw Dral-Kar'ta's expression and stopped his analysis. "Oh, that was a rhetorical comment. I shall continue to fly casual wile enacting strict protocols against flying too casual." As he piloted the craft to the landing pad without further comment or incident.

The ship itself was obviously a Make-Eekai freighter but it was heavily modified and only hinted at what additional capabilities it had over a standard freighter. What was worthy of not was that the hull appeared to be made of beskar. It actually was made of a beskar matrix with a beskar plating but still the amount of the pricy material that was used was impressive. A Scrapper could reasonably estimate the value of the beskar alone was enough to buy a heavy cruiser.

After touching down the boarding ramp opened with a woosh of billowing fog. The technical reason for the fog was the sudden mixing of the treated artificial atmosphere in the ship with the atmosphere of the planet but Dral-Kar'ta had augmented the volume of fog because he thought it looked cool. Ronhar would see four figures emerge from the ramp. Two were obviously guards or security of some type and stayed at the foot of the ramp. Two other figures stepped forward and then stopped. The first was a fully armored Mandalorian of some status going by the quality of his armor. His companion might raise a few eyebrows for it was a KX-series security droid, and odd choice to bring scrap shopping or to a negotiation.

The Mandalorian stood there for a moment then reached up and took off his helmet which was a good sign as it indicated that he did not view the situation as threatening. Holding the helmet in the crook of his arm the Mandalorian advance followed by the droid. 'The escort are called the Chrome Guardians. They are organic and not much is known about their capabilities but as they are the elite guard formation it would be wise to assume they are quite capable. The fact that there are only two indicated that they are present more for ceremonial rather than hostile reasons." Tappo analyzed quietly. "The official appears to be Ronhar Tane himself. Apparently, the Ulterior motive for your visit was understood."

Dral-Kar'ta stopped a few feet away from Rohar and brought his forearm up to thump his chest in the traditional Mandalorian salute to show respect.

"I am Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Alor'ad of Clan Saandyr, and Director of Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics. I am honored to be greeted by such an illustrious personage on this, my first visit to your planet. This is Ta-2Po, my administrative and protocol droid. I have come to negotiate a purchase witch I hope will be advantageous to us both… among other things."

The 'among other things' held way more potential than a simple deal for a few old hulls.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
CORROX, MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE: MAKE A DEAL!

Once Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr 's ship landed and was settled, its ramp opened up as fog and smoke billowed out in abundance. Most likely a defensive feature to obscure anyone trying to get on and off the ship from blaster fire, Ronhar thought to himself. Perhaps a bit niche, but not entirely a bad idea, though Ronhar had to imagine it was rather inconvenient for anyone trying to get onto the ship while being attacked. He made a mental note later to assess the viability of creating a similar system for the MIN Night Reaver and other Mahporeenian dropships in Imperial service.

From the ship itself emerged four figures. Two of them must have been ship security, because they remained at the foot of the vessel's ramp as the other two figures continued forward. One of those was obviously Dral, but it was the second figure that Ronhar found far more interesting. On the outset, it resembled a KX-series Security Droid, a model of droid that Ronhar was rather familiar with, but its owner, presumably Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr , had extensively modified it, adding Mandalorian style vambraces to the droid's forearms and some other cosmetic upgrades. That was something that Ronhar could appreciate, and he wondered if Dral would be willing to part with it. Mahporeem had KX droids in abundance, and had made their own modifications to them, but nothing in the way that Ronhar was seeing before him.

Both the droid and Dral took a few more steps forward, after which Dral removed his helmet, declaring:

"I am Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Alor'ad of Clan Saandyr, and Director of Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics. I am honored to be greeted by such an illustrious personage on this, my first visit to your planet. This is Ta-2Po, my administrative and protocol droid. I have come to negotiate a purchase witch I hope will be advantageous to us both… among other things."

He was certainly...enthusiastic, all things considered, but it was the last part of his statement that really caught his attention. The Sith Order had sent Quinn Varanin Quinn Varanin and her entourage to negotiate with Mahporeem, though Ronhar had not been invited to that meeting, and now the Mandalorian Empire was doing the same through Dral. In fact, of all the factions that Mahporeem had been in conflict with, only the Sith Covenant had yet to reach out, which no one could tell if that was deliberate or not. Were the Sith doing that purposely, or did they simply believe Mahporeem to be beneath them? Ronhar quickly shook the thoughts from his head: now was not the time or place to dwell on them.

Removing his own helmet to match Dral, Ronhar identified himself:

"Captain Ronhar Tane, TK-3301 of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant. We received your transmission and found ourselves intrigued by your offer. I imagine you're eager to inspect the PB-950 hulls yourself. Come with me and I'll take you to them."

With that, Ronhar and the Chrome Guardians began moving to the adjoining scrapyard, where a number of the PB-950s had already been moved. A single All Terrain Heavy Salvage Walker was in the process of moving some of the ships into a straight line, as dozens of Salvage Troopers checked the vessels for structural damage. Ronhar gestured to the ships that were being worked on.

"We've already recovered a number of the ships that you've requested and are in the process of ensuring they are ready to be moved and refurbished by you. By all means, you're welcome to inspect any of the ships that you choose."

His host, very expeditiously introduced himself and got right to business. Or at least he got right to the public business at hand, any other business would have to be addressed in a private setting. He agreed that he was indeed eager to inspect the hulls and was promptly escorted to an adjoining marshaling yard. Dral-Kar'ta was pleased to see that several husks of the old ships were already laid out in a neat row ready for easy inspection. Workers were busy with other hulls crawling about them like little worker bees. His attention was briefly taken by the ATHSW. He had seen walkers aplenty but never one quite so large. He watched for a moment as the machine effortlessly plonked a multi ton hull off the ground and repositioned it but as impressive as that was it could not hold his attention away from the PB-950's set out like a row of sparkboxes.

"You have quite a few already picked out. How efficient."

He said acknowledging their industriousness. Having thought that he would have to trapse through the mud and detritus of the scrap heap to inspect the hulls he appreciated the convenience. One could say many things about the Imperials but disorderly and slothfulness was not one of them. They could be just as ruthless as the Sith but they were less chaotic. Their will was methodical and relentless, much like the Mandalorians, and not impassioned and tortured like the dark Sith or righteous and condescending as The Republic. He could appreciate the order they were able to establish amongst void.

There were things to discuss but he indulged himself in Tane's offer to inspect the hulls and spent several minutes doing so. Not trying to hide the fact that he was genuinely interested in the old vessels, he undertook a narrative as he was going about his task as a way to establish a link with the Imperial officer.

"I do not know if you are aware but Mando-de'Lorean is a relatively new company and our specialty is redesigning and modifying existing craft rather than construct entirely new vessels. These were old and outdated even back before the Empire." He grabbed a console of some sort and the plastoid, brittle and degraded from decades or more like centuries of deterioration, cracked and nearly disintegrated in his hands. He let the pieces fall from his hand. "The interiors are shot and the wiring is decayed but that is not unexpected considering the age and conditions it was subject to. The electronics would have had to be replaced and modernized in any case but the hulls are still sound and with some care and labor they could be serviceable for another few hundred years more." He knocked on a bulkhead making a dull solid thudding sound. "Double hulled. They certainly knew how to build them back in the day. MDL has an engineering team of Sullustans and Ungonoughts that would love to get their hands on blank canvases such as these. These vessels would not make formidable warships but they would make serviceable patrol boats for the quieter sectors of Mandalorian space and they were always well regarded as being a reliable and roomy design if a bit boxy to our modern taste. It probably would be cheaper to obtain newer platforms but these are iconic Mandalorian police vessels and we Mandalorians do appreciate our history."

As he was talking Tappo had been scanning and cataloguing the vessels and returned to report. "Some of the hulls show signs of Steelpeckers but nothing serious. A preliminary estimate of the hulls gathered so far indicate that seventy two percent of the hulls are within the acceptable metric for renovation with the of the remaining hulls falling within the parameters for spare parts or useful salvage resulting in a calculable wastage of less than six percent. I would recommend the placing of ion traps or magnetic disruption fields to discourage them."

"Thank you Tappo, I found the report informative but I am sure the Captain is more than capable of managing an errant Steelpecker or two."

He brushed his hands off as he finished his inspection and returned to face Ronhar.

"Very efficient Captain Tane. I compliment you on the industrious of your technicians. Yes, the hulls will do nicely. I am in need of at least two dozen hulls, perhaps more if you have them. Shall we retire and discuss terms?"

It was clear that this Mandalorian did not see the items on offer as mere scrap or raw materials to be smelted down but as objects, even if old and in poor condition, that were worthy of consideration. It was also apparent that he was as straightforward and willing to get down to business as Ronhar was."

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
CORROX, MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE: MAKE A DEAL!

"You have quite a few already picked out. How efficient."

"Us Imperials are nothing if not efficient", Ronhar replied dryly as Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr Dral-Kar'ta Saandyr and his droid companion began inspecting the hulls that had been laid out before them. Clearly, the Mandalorian's interest in the starships extended beyond their credit value, and he spent several minutes inspecting each hull in great detail. As someone who held similar views when it came to starscraft, Ronhar was pleasantly surprised by Dral's attitude. It was a refreshing chance of pace for the Imperial Commando, and soon enough Dral began launching into the history of the company he was representing.

"I do not know if you are aware but Mando-de'Lorean is a relatively new company and our specialty is redesigning and modifying existing craft rather than construct entirely new vessels. These were old and outdated even back before the Empire. The interiors are shot and the wiring is decayed but that is not unexpected considering the age and conditions it was subject to. The electronics would have had to be replaced and modernized in any case but the hulls are still sound and with some care and labor they could be serviceable for another few hundred years more."

An accurate assessment of the ships conditions, and one that Ronhar had to agree with. The fact that the PB-950s were at all serviceable was something of a small miracle, considering how many centuries they had sat on the planet rusting away in the elements, having not been seen as particularly strategically or economically important enough to care about properly preserving. Yet, there hulls were quite suitable for what Dral had in mind and were insignificant enough that the Imperial Remnant felt comfortable selling them to their potential adversaries, even if they were in need of serious repairs, upgrades and modifications.

After a few more adulations about the PB-950, Dral turned back to Ronhar to face him.

"Very efficient Captain Tane. I compliment you on the industrious of your technicians. Yes, the hulls will do nicely. I am in need of at least two dozen hulls, perhaps more if you have them. Shall we retire and discuss terms?"

With the inspection out of the way, it was now time to get down to business.

"Of course", Ronhar replied as the Night Reaver landed behind Ronhar, its bay doors opening up to allow everyone on the ground a chance to get on board. "If you'll follow me", he continued, "I'll have my ship take you to our meeting spot in Collaboration Tower. Shouldn't take us more than a few minutes to arrive."

Whether or not Dral turned to follow him or make his own plans to travel to the tower, Ronhar climbed aboard his ship, and just a short few minutes later he was sitting in one of Collaboration Tower's various conference rooms, where he and Dral could discuss things without fear of their conversation being leaked or overheard by anyone who didn't have any business with their meeting.

"Let's get down to it", Ronhar remarked as he took his seat. "But first, a refreshment?", Ronhar asked as he gestured to the bottles of different beverages that had been laid out on the table before them. "Now, your initial request was for two dozen hulls of the PB-950 Patrol Boat. Given their current condition but taking into account their advanced age and scarcity, the Imperial Remnant is content to part with these hulls for a paltry 50,000 credits each, which I think is more than a fair price considering your plans for these ships. You've also indicated a willingness to purchase additional hulls should they be available, which we would be willing to do and offer a bulk discount on. Just how many of these ship hulls are you looking to purchase?", Ronhar asked the Mandalorian as haggling began.
