Mercenary Arms kept the Salus Point Defense Turret simple, yet practical, forgoing exotic materials and technology for a proven, reliable, and cost-effective point defense turret. Designed to be added to any ship, it’s a complete stand-alone package with the exception of needing to be tied into a power source and adding cockpit or gunnery controls. As such, the Salus comes with its own targeting sensors, smartgunner chip for automation, and lock-detector, although it can also be tied into an existing defensive net or sensor system.
Uniquely, the point defense turret comes with two reloading smoke grenade launchers that fire a canister of pink vapor. This allows the gun to defend against lasers, turbolasers, disruptors, and even solar ionization cannons, but at the cost of stopping its own return fire through the cloud. This was deemed a temporary problem however, as any ship in combat is usually moving and the clouds are relatively static.
Utilizing an SF-12 capacitor for enhanced cooling and fire rate in conjunction with its fast-tracking compensator, the Salus Point Defense Turret is ideal for the rapid acquisition and neutralization of agile threats in a fast-paced combat environment where fractions of a second count. Gunners and captains can trust the onboard threat designation system, mark their own targets, or take direct control.
