OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Rose' Amanecer, Sun Rose
  • Origins: Pi III
  • Other Locations: None
  • Classification: Vine, Flower
Average Growth Cycle: Rose' Amanecer is an extremely delicate cavern creeping plant which more often than not seeds on Sun facing rocks within the deep caverns of Pi III's Jungles. Due to severe climate change of the planet because of the milling of Greel Wood and the pollution caused by it, very few of this rare plant ever get to properly seed into active strains. Requiring protected cavernous biomes which have natural filters such as behind waterfalls to attain fresh air and the limited precious sunlight they require. Only in these rare secret places the Rose' Amanecer is able to flourish and grow into what it is meant to be.

Seeds of the Rose' Amanecer, unlike the plants that attempt to grow from them are rather hardy, sealed things which use the running waters they're attracted to as a method of filtration to travel incredible distances, hoping to find themselves on the ground or walls of other caverns and underground ways to root and then flower, a process that in total takes about five to six decades. The flowers of the Rose' Amanecer are particularly unique, growing a natural crystal not unlike a Bezoar which acts as the beating hearts of the plant. The leaves of the plant absorb sunlight, while excess sunlight is stored within the crystal to be filtered out to the world around it.

Where the Rose' Amanecer takes root, other plants often begin to gather and grow, attracted to the mysterious and rare plants existence creating gardens in normally low light areas which it cross pollinates freely creating myriad hybridization's of itself as well as the other plants which take root around it. Poisonous plants and other interesting species accumulate around the light it provides creating parasitic relationships for protection and reproduction seen replicated in part by many other vines.

The death of the Rose' Amanecer is difficult to determine, as a vine its seed are carried within a thin lining in its leaves, shedding annually and going off into the world while the core plant continues to grow larger and larger. Thanks to its methods of protection, one of these plants, once they take root can live for centuries. Its usually outside forces, a breach in the cavern allowing pollution in, a change in the PH of the water or an infection that will kill off this delicate plant.

Viability: The plant requires little in the way of sunlight a fleeting hour of light per day for up to two months of the calendar year on Pi III is enough to sustain its growth due to the fact that the plant is supernaturally disposed to storing the light of the sun and far more efficient at its application towards growth. The plant achieves this through not simply natural processes, but by the fact that it has some alignment with the force, Enhancing its ability to absorb the radial energy much in a similar nature to Tutaminis. Many Jedi who have studied the plant have pondered as to how the plant gained this connection, musing that it due to its preferred climate being deep caves and hidden places its likely that its a mutation caused by exposure to growing in a Kyber Crystal Cave, adapting to its environment as it clung to and to some extent fed off of the mysterious crystal.

The Rose' Amanecer requires a filtered natural biome much like those which water borne caves provide in order to live. Much in the way of nutrients attained from these moist cavern walls, where water collects the nutrients such as Potassium Nitrate from common crystal formations in Pi III's caverns. Many of Pi III's plant life have developed strong roots, capable of burrowing through rock and granite which over time empty out vast chasms allowing for more plant life to grow beneath the surface allowing these mysterious garden caverns to expand.

Transplant of the Rose' Amanecer has been considered difficult, the smog of Pi III killing the delicate plant long after it's been removed from exposure sites. But should it be securely quarantines and moved, successful transplants have been possible. As a vine, the organism can live for almost a century without issue or cause for concern and can cross pollinate with many other flowering species with great success.

Description: A pure strain of the Rose' Amanecer has broad, ivy like leaves which are a rich green on top and a much paler green with hints of blue when inspected from underneath. The thin and slender vines the plant grows in are many individual strands which often twine together to form a central core which keeps the plant structurally sound. The plants root structure largely consists of fibrous almost hair like extensions which grow from the vines itself, clinging to cavern walls and spreading across its surface, no wider than a couple of inches from the plant itself.

Its flowers however, are beautiful to behold, able to open or close on a biological clock, though some have speculated more meaning to their bloom. The petals of the plants flowers are a deep violet making them near black to the naked eye, but many once they are fully grown develop a crystalline structure within the core of the flower in the heart of its pollen creating organ. This amber - gold crystal gives off a dazzling amount of sunlight in exactly the same wavelengths as that of the planets' sun.

Variants of the pure strain come in many forms, some not even vines. Though inert crystal bearing plants in these deep caves often serve to reflect the light from the Rose' Amanecer, bathing the caves in colour like other crystal caves of the like force users are known to seek out for their personal weapons. Though many of the crystals formed by these hybridization's are inert. The Crystals themselves on these variants can be almost any colour, often taking a complimenting or sometimes combination of colours based on their parentage.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 25cm
  • Average Length: 15-30m
  • Color:
    • Flowers: Dark Violet
    • Crystal: Amber Gold
    • Leaves: Royal Green (Top), Turquoise (Under)
    • Roots: Olive
  • Nutritional Value: High in Vitamin D

  • Toxicity: The Crystals of the active strain of the plant which emit light are potentially harmful to life, as they can emit radiation in the form of Gamma, X-ray and Microwaves.

  • Other Effects: While the Rose' Amanecer has no known medicinal benefits, while the active strain of the plant is known to be semi sentient in the force, there have been applications both alchemical and botanical in its use. Cross breeding the plant with other plants causes the resulting hybrids to be resistant to sunlight and far more effective with their photosynthetic processes making them more effective in lower light climates.

The Crystals of the Sun Rose have many mechanical uses also, Active strain crystals when focused by a force user make for a potent Lightsaber Crystal, while any of the gems be they active or inert are perfect prisms when it comes to focusing or diffusing light, creating a host of possible applications as focusing lenses, protective eye-wear or other goods.

  • Distinctions: There are two core strains of the Rose' Amanecer and its offspring, distinguished commonly as active and inert strains;
    • Active Strain: Active strains include the Force Sensitive strain which is able to process sunlight in supernaturally effective sums, the crystals that they generate gain an amount of luminescence due to the excess energy attained through this absorption process becoming Golden crystals in a pure plant or potentially many colours depending on the parentage of the offspring.

    • Inert Strain: variants of the Rose Amanecer however are thought to be pure strains that were damage by toxins or environmental factors but managed to sprout regardless. Typical of species grown off world or in controlled environments, these plants still produce crystals, but due to not being able to absorb the incredible excess of nutrients and energy used to form them, they are less focused and appear as unique mineral crystal which is beautiful to the eye and a perfect prism when refined.
  • Force Sensitivity: Yes (Active Strain), No (Inert Strain).
STRENGTHS
  • Force Sensitive: The Active strain of the Sun Rose is a force sensitive plant which is able to absorb the waves of the sun to effectively supercharge its development, storing it in phyto-crystallic formations which they have evolved to develop by clinging to force sensitive crystal formations in caverns on Pi III. This ability is a rudimentary form of Tutaminis.
  • Crystal Bearing Plant: The crystals born from the Active strain of this plant are beautiful to behold, brilliant golden gemstones which glow like the sun and can when focused by a Jedi continue to glow with a perfect replica of the suns warm rays including the waves produced by natural light making it identical to sunlight in every sense. These crystals can be used as a light-saber crystal much in the same way as the crystal bezoar of the living Krayt Dragons. While the gems of the inert strains once refined form perfect prisms, perfect for high quality lenses for lasers or any number of other products.
  • Photokinetic: The plants are able to live with staggeringly little light. An hour of sunlight absorbed by an adult plant of the active strain can fuel its growth for weeks. While inert strains do not posses the supernatural photosynthesis quality of its more complete variant, its still able to grow on deceptively small amounts of sunlight, allowing this plant to grow in caves which see light for only a few times a year without issue.
  • Bonding Parasite: Although fragile, the Rose' Amanecer produces one very vital product for other plants, sunlight. In the inhospitable climate of Pi III, other sensitive plants have found little better refuge in these cavernous greenhouses created by the Sun Roses' unique properties. Poisonous plants and hardy trees with strong deep roots all to their part to protect, build and earn their place in the delicate ecosystems which could only exist because of this plant.
  • Beautiful: The plant itself is very aesthetically pleasing.
WEAKNESSES
  • Force Reliant: Should this plant attempt to grow in a place with no natural access to the force such as Malachor V or with nether crystals nearby it will inevitably revert to an inert strain, making active strains impossible to grow.
  • Delicate Development: Extremely susceptible to infection, bacteria and toxins in the air, small breaches could annihilate entire gardens of this plant, much like the delicate structures of coral reefs. It takes centuries for these natural botanical paradises to grow, but moments to destroy.
  • Hazardous: The light from the crystals of the active strain is identical to non filtered sunlight, risks of cancer, burns and other sun based illnesses. Plants not used to, or not incrementally exposed such hazardous conditions cannot grow in close proximity to a Sun Rose, this light radiation can also destroy nutrients in soft soil and pose a potential fire risk in dry areas destroying the parasitic relationships and ecosystems the plant relies on to grow in the wild.
  • Rare: The Sun rose is a rare plant, even on its home planet, precious few caverns of their kind have been found and due to accidents or natural erosion they disappear by the year and only grow every so often. There are preserved specimens of the active strain alive in controlled conditions, but breeding them has proven exceedingly difficult away from Pi III, and they tend to default to inert strains.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

When the Pi System was originally purchased by a Corulag Mining corporation after initial attempts at mining the worlds for precious goods failed, the original miners never expected that the true value of the Pi Worlds weren't the minerals that lay hidden deep within them, but rather the plants which grew upon their surface. Converted into little more than forests of the Scarlett wooded Greel Tree which was to be refined and sold as a luxury item. Sadly, these operations destroyed much of the native forest on Pii III and IV, leaving precious few oasis forests of the planets original plant-life... But they too would soon succumb to the toxins which were introduced rapidly as the urban sprawls opened up on the planet.

The plants of the planet had little place to grow, and all but went extinct on the surface, but life often finds away, and the adaptation of a rare vine became the key to the survival of one of the most astounding evolutionary adaptations in the galaxy. Using underground river systems through root structures, seeds and cuttings from many plant roots had made their way into the underground of Pi III, the presence of large volumes of running white water and waterfall exits created a natural filtration system for the air in the tunnels.

Its proposed that it was taking root on the walls of an undiscovered Kyber Crystal cavern that an unnamed flowering vine absorbed granules of Kyber through the water running off of the walls into itself, the energy given off by the crystals and enough time passing causing the vine to adapt several new qualities over the centuries as it would begin to seed itself through the waterways of the world. These adaptations would come to light when the flowering plant came into contact with the sun, biological imperative taking control and spurring its adaptation to its logical conclusion. A plant, which could emit sunlight.

It was a wondering former Jedi who had trained with witches of Dathomir who were first to find these mysterious caverns, considering them holy places as well as a more natural replacement to the more traditional crystal caves used by the Jedi or Sith. Since their discovery, many of them have been protected by the Sisters who built settlements near them, doing what they can to stall the environmental destruction which threatens these sacred places every day.

Under Review Felix Aquila Felix Aquila

This is a really interesting submission! I haven't seen anything like a plant-grown crystal before, but I like it; it feels very Jedi, and you make a good case that it's not too different from a krayt dragon pearl. Just a couple of minor things before I stamp this for approval.

  • It looks like there's a typo in the Links section, after "Bio-Crystal", where you repeated the link to the planet.

  • I don't know that I'd consider the third Weakness, "Slightly Hazardous", a weakness of the plant. The fact that it could potentially hurt something else through sunburn would, on most submissions, be considered more a strength than a weakness. What is the downside for the plant of radiating sunlight? I'd consider dropping this weakness, or rewording it in such a way that it weakens the plant itself in some way. If you drop it, you could add another, but I don't think you have to. No one is going to accuse this sub of being unbalanced.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!

Thank you so much! That's kinda what i was going for, i wanted to create a crystal cave aesthetic but make it a cool botanical garden instead of a frozen ice cave.

I added that it can harm the environment around it, damage other plants and the ecosystem if it grows in the wrong place, i feel like with its own abilities it wouldn't really damage itself. BUT it does rely on other plants and the ecosystem that its in a lot. As it is a fragile thing.

Also, no idea what happened with that link thingie.
