The Clearing
The realm of the Spirit of the forest. This is where the mysterious spirit that watches over the planet resides, and where the patriarchs of both tribes come for counsel.

The Falls
Known by both human and theowei as a place for peace and serenity. Members from both tribes often come here to collect their thoughts and ponder on whatever may be troubling them. The calm rushing waters are always cool and clear, and leave whoever swims in them feeling refreshed.

Lagnok
Past the cliffs and into the darker parts of the forest lay Lagnok, a place of nightmares. Humans and theowei alike have lost their lives to the darkness of this place, and few have lived to tell the tale of a massive wolf-like creature that drags victims deeper still.

Culture:
For both theowei and humans, the culture is roughly the same, as they both work in tribes very much like that of Native Americans. Both are guided by a patriarch, though no leadership is used, as peace and common sense is valued greatly. There is an annual event where the people of both tribes gather around the plant sculpture first created by the humans, and where both first came into contact. The event includes a celebration, games, and a formal ceremony towards the end. The event lasts for three days, nonstop. Each tribe also has its own pastimes, for instance, the humans enjoy playing chess, catch the ball, and climbing trees, while the theowei like tossing spears and playing games that require great physical discipline, as well as their own form of martial arts. Both tribes have taught each other their past times to a certain extent, and so both have different variations on each.
Technology: Very primitive, close to that of Native Americans. They craft spears and other weapons out of wood, while blades can be crafted from stone or bone. Housing consists of hut-like dwellings, made using the forest around them.

History:
Around 346 ABY, a transport ship of four hundred human pilgrims crash-landed on Refuge, leaving the remaining one hundred and thirty survivors with very little food and resources. Putting together what they could with the little supplies left, they put together a camp, giving them shelter while some went out to hunt. While the hunters went out to find food, they would realize what a truly different planet this was in contrast to what they were used to. Sprawling jungles and massive trees overtook the land, and they were filled with predators of all shapes and sizes. Some of these predators were dangerous to the point that the hunters would have to flee whenever they were encountered. However, on one day when a party was out, one hunter named Drago Suvan wandered off into a different part of the forest, and lost his way. Upon trying to find his way back to the camp, he was encountered by a strange spirit that told him not to be afraid. Once Drago was calm, the spirit spoke with him, asking why he was on the planet in the first place. Drago spent a few hours explaining to the spirit where he was from, and how he came to be where he was now, by means of the ship crashing. Understanding, the spirit touched Drago on the head, showing him the way back to the camp.

Once he had joined his people again, Drago described to them all what he had seen, but of course none believed him. Hoping to find answers and a way to prove to the others that the spirit was real, Drago visited it almost daily, talking to it and learning more about the planet. The spirit refused to go out into the open, and insisted that it would stay in the darker part of the forest. It would also not appear to anyone else but Drago, much to his surprise. In the coming months, he learned more and more about the planet from the spirit, and showed his constant flow of knowledge to the others. They began to believe him one day when he had saved a man from eating a fruit that was deadly poison. From then on, they listened. Drago passed on the knowledge he'd learned from the spirit, and realizing that the spirit would only talk to him, they offered a proposal for Drago, in which he told the spirit as soon as he could. It agreed, and Drago became the first patriarch, and it was agreed that his successors would be chosen by the spirit in the forest. The tribe of people began calling themselves The Blessed, as they had been blessed with new life.

In the years passing, the settlers became more aware of the planet they now called home, and wound up becoming a new tribe with new ideals and new ways of thinking. However, a new predator had made itself aware of the humans. Though it was often too fast to see, hunters often described it as a massive wolf. The spirit of the forest refused to give any information on it, only stating that in the forest were things they could not begin to imagine. The predator rarely engaged the humans, and only ever killed if one was dumb enough to venture too far into it's
domain The general area where it was known to be seen became known as Lagnok, and only the bravest ever went to see what lay in that part of the forest.

In time, more areas were discovered and named by the new inhabitants of Refuge, and they were happy with their new home. However, there was still a layer of mystery about the planet, one that none of the human settlers could quite put a grasp on. Unknown to them, there was another civilization that had been on Refuge for far longer than they had, a humanoid species that was part of the planet in some strange way. Though they were never seen fully, the humans began to describe these creatures as humans with pale green skin, and were almost always seen in daylight, never during the night when patrols were searching the area. Though the patriarch at the time still went to the spirirt of the forest, it would be very vague on their existence, stating that they were in fact a strange kind of people, and were often secretive. While it gave little information on the green folk, it hinted that their connection to the planetwas more spiritual than physical, and that they held everything around them sacred. Wondering about this, the patriarch and those close to him created a plan to get one of the strangers out in the open. They worked for days on a sculpture, creating the entirety of it from bark and leaves. Once finished, it was carried to a large clearing where it was easily visible, and watched. Hours would pass until a very pale humanoid emerged from the far side of the forest to inspect it. Upon looking at it, the humans watching noted its slanted features and nimble frame, and the fact that it did indeed have a green glow to it. It was then that one of the humans, a small boy by the name of Darren, went out to meet it. The stranger seemed unsettled at first, but also being a child of its own race, it was curious. The two inspected each other throughly, each fascinated by the other. After a few minutes however, the stranger ran away, and Darren ran back to the other humans. The statue would be the point of first contact, and the two races eventually began to meet each other by it, as a show of trust. Meanwhile, the spirit, seeing that both races had found each other, began coaching the patriarch of the humans in the language of the theowei, for that's what they were called, and unknown to the humans, it also taught the theowei counterpart the language of the humans.
Through the spirit, the human patriarch also found out that the theowei on Refuge were also settlers from a different planet, though they had been there quite a bit longer than the humans had. It was intriguing to find out that their neighbors were also learning the planet for themselves, and it showed that both tribes had a lot to offer each other in terms of knowledge. During this time, a strange and unnatural disease plagued the galaxy, though it never had the misfortune of reaching Refuge and affecting its inhabitants.

Months passed and eventually a formal meeting was held, where both races talked for the first time. The two held a peace together, and promised to work together. From then on, the patriarch of both races began teaching their people the language of the other tribe, to those that would listen. It came to a point eventually that members of both tribes would roam freely back and forth, and the humans and theowei learned more from each other. Such has been the same for years to come, and now Refuge is a place of peace and serenity for all who wish to come and learn it. Unknown to any on the planet, however, a strange plague had begun its descent upon the galaxy...
Though the horrors of the Gulag plague had infected much of the galaxy, the peaceful folk of Refuge were never made aware of it, and lived those four-hundred years in light, instead of darkness. Since nothing ever comes to or from the planet, it was pretty hard for the disease to spread that far. However, a new threat would eventually take place in the galaxy, and chaos ensued. Suddenly, millions vanished, both theowei and human alike. Friends, loved ones, children were all gone, in the blink of an eye. Months passed, and some returned, while some did not. This left those remaining shell-shocked and afraid, begging their kindred forest spirit to explain what had happened. Sadly however, it could not. Though it was linked to the force, it could only detect the absence of it during the event, and it knew that something very sinister had taken place in the galaxy once again.
Since the events of the Netherworld event, those on Refuge are more closely guarded with themselves. Ties between the tribes are strained, and trust is much more fragile than it once was. Nobody knows the truth, but that only makes things worse for them all.

Notable Characters: Gherron Vael
Notable NPC's: The spirit of the forest- An old force-spirit who has been on Refuge for some time, longer than both humans and theowei. He was once a user of the force that had adventured out in the galaxy, only to be stranded on Refuge and die of starvation. His figure is gaunt and ghostly. Though he can feel the force, as well as breaks and tremors through it, he cannot affect the physical world around him with any force abilities, and serves only as a guide.

Intent: A place of refuge (hence the name, given by the human settlers) for Gherron to live for some time away from the rest of the galaxy, as a means of physical and mental restoration, as well as bringing a new platform for rp in the future .

Awesome. Little update as well, I just had a chat with someone who has been using the theowei species for a while. So as not to screw with the character, I will keep the species history intact and remove them as natural inhabitants of Refuge. The ones living here will instead be a different sect that arrived some time before the humans did. I will make this change as soon as I get to a computer.

Alright, lemme start by saying that's pretty freaking awesome. There are a couple of things that need to be addressed.

  • I can't find anything about the theowei in Wookieepedia, so I'm assuming they're Chaos canon. If that's the case, we'll need a link to them under the species portion.
  • I like the idea of the spirit, but we need to know a little more about it in terms of power. If it's just a benign spirit that talks to the patriarchs that's one thing, but if it's useful in combat or teaching some esoteric Force skill we might need a dev thread. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
  • The events of the Netherworld (http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/timeline/844-aby-netherworld-r33) and Gulag Plague (http://starwarsrp.net/page/articles.html/_/timeline/835-aby-galaxy-at-war-r22) have to be referenced in the history. If Refuge was completely isolated at the time of the plague it might have escaped unharmed, but that needs to be mentioned, as well as the disappearances of the Netherworld event.

As I said before, this is an excellent submission, and I look forward to working with you to get it approved.

- Linked the species sub

- Gave the spirit his own spot under a new section 'Notable NPC's'

- Added in both events, check the last three paragraphs of the history.

For some reason the first image deleted itself. My computed hates me. Lemme try to get that back up now.

All the images are showing for me.

It should be noted that the only way to avoid the Gulag Plague was complete quarantine. Was that the case?

It sounds like a pretty low key kinda place. No imports or exports. It's entirely possible you guys don't get much traffic. Might have even been forgotten for a while.
