Red Wine and Remembrance | [Open to Eternal Empire & CIS]

Eternal winter raged over the frigid landscape surrounding the ancient city of Vengard. Fortune favoured the Empire on this particular night as the howling storms had seen fit to die down to rather picturesque deluge of pure white snow. Overhead the dark skies rumbled and groaned, almost electric with energy that threatened to turn the scenic winter eve into a thunderous nightmare. A slow moving river, turned grey by the solid cloud above, snaked and twisted around the frozen capital as though trying to strangle it in its grasp. The intricately designed 'Victory Bridge' stretched from one end to the other, a solid stone monument erected to serve a purpose. Remembrance. Flickering orange flames meant to illuminate spread evenly along the towering structure, but even they struggled to project their light into the swirling snowflakes that danced in the unpredictable winds.

The only thing that seemed to make a dent in the never ending grey was the intense glow of artificial light pouring from the stain glass windows of the only ship to brave the icy waters. It cut slow through the frozen waves, with no destination its only job was to traverse the length of the bridge. Designed specifically for the purpose of hosting the elite of the Eternal Empire. Save for the things that made it tick, and a few other various rooms, most of metal craft had been gutted out to create a wide space to be used for the intricately designed ballroom. The false marble tiles that hid the unsightly metal floor beneath had been covered in a scarlet velvet carpet.

One end of the room was dominated by three long tables made of deep brown wood, covered top to bottom in crimson tablecloths made of soft silk. Fanciful food and blood red wine sat proudly amidst eye catching centre pieces of gold and midnight black. Banners baring the Eternal Empire's crest hung proudly from the thick metal columns that prevented the domed glass roof from caving in. Tarnished memorabilia from wars long since forgotten by even the oldest of minds decorated the glimmering metal walls, polished to an almost mirror like quality. An orchestra of ten sat tucked away on a swell in the balcony that ran along the circumference of the room, above the only square of marbled floor that remained bare. Sweet music poured from their instruments. Music to make you happy, music to make you forget the scars of war and instead remember the brave heroes who sacrificed themselves for the future.

For those who were brave enough to face the weather the deck of the ship had been fitted with covers to fend off the worst of the snow. Smokeless fires sat in the centre of each crafted shelter. Each doing their best to warm the air around them and chase away a fraction of the growing darkness. A raven haired woman stood in the bright orange flame cast by one such fire. The hostess cast her onyx gaze at the stone marvel slowly passing by, clad in a gown made of red and purple silk. Each colour in homage to her allegiances. Soon the sound of conversation, laughter and music would drift through the partially open windows. Determined to stay wrapped around the crystal glass filled with blood red liquid, toffee coloured fingers slowly turning blue with the cold, the hostess tried her best to put on her social face. The false face she had crafted for herself ever since loneliness had made a home in her mind. Once people started to arrive she would force her feet to carry her through the heavy metal doors, but for now the sharp breeze was her only comfort.

All were invited, station and standing mattered little on such an auspicious day. Both members of the Eternal Empire and the Confederacy, and those who fought for their honour in battle. Gathered together as one to celebrate sacrifices old and new. Eat, drink and make merry, but do not forget to remember.

The galaxy no longer feared the name Blackmoore, it no longer knew of it. There had once been a time when the mere whisper of the name would cause the most stalwart of men to shudder. It was the way of the galaxy. Great men rose to power only for time to trample upon their great legacy. For Kerstan’ur’Xan it had never been his to claim. His father had spent his energy, blood and sweat, into molding the Crown Worlds of Indupar into something great only to disappear before the birth of his only son. For almost 800 years the K’paur hybrid had lived only to hear the whisper of his father’s name again. Though rather than reclaim Indupar he had found her. The Viren who had always been his one weakness. It was left to him, to Kerstan to reclaim the name and the throne, and he would do it.

It was for his own selfish motives that his feet trudged through the snow of the great ancient city of Vengard. Kerstan had walked the bridge before, long before many that would attend this party had been born. His eyes closed as the he drew in the scent of the city, noting it had changed over the centuries. Perhaps he remembered wrong as it had been centuries, but Kerstan had known this place once upon a time. The curse of age was knowing. Many memories filled his head in places which no longer existed. Entire worlds had been decimated since Ker had taken his first breath. Yet this place stood strong. Strength is what he needed.

Alliances were the one thing Indupar needed. Since the Galactic Alliance folded, and the First Order no longer occupied his home world, Kerstan had doubled his efforts to bring the kingdom which was rightfully his to the forefront. [member="Darth Tacitus"] was such an ally. The Eternal Empire has proven they had the means to shape the events of the galaxy and bend them to their will. If they were strong, Indupar would be strong. His dark eyes were set on the large ship which was to be the site for a celebration of fabled proportion he had been told. Kerstan had expected Tacitus to be there of course, but as his booted feet crossed onto the deck of the ship his attention fell toward a stunning beauty daring enough to wear a strapless piece accentuated with metal and chain about her shoulders. ([member="Faye Malvern"])

Determined feet carried him toward the shelter and flame which burned in attempt to keep the covered area warm. His own hand carried a deep colored wine, gifted from his father’s personal collection. It had been a decent year, finding the right balance between a rich yet earthy taste. Each bottle was distinct if one had the palate to taste the subtle differences of the liquid drink.

“You should have seen the stone when it was first completed,” Kerstan said, his silver silk voice calling out to the woman as he came along beside her. His glance noticed her eyes watching the stone as the ship passed and opted to use the architectural marvel to break the ice. “The Stone was so pristine that it almost reflected the sun back at your eyes. It has always been such a marvel to behold, but it was especially so then.”

Kerstan offered a small bow once he knew he had the woman’s attention. He was too noble to forget his manners and etiquette. His dress was typical of his home, and also fitting for the weather. A black coat covered the black fabric of his shirt and pants. A ceremonial sword hung at his waist, and the hilt of his lightsaber hung near the weapon’s scabbard. “Kerstan Blackmoore,” he offered his common name. “Friend of the Eternal Empire, heir to the throne of Induparan Crown Worlds. Might I offer you my coat?”

Nelvaan {Vengard Manse} | [member="Alessandra Creed"] [member="Faye Malvern"] [member="Kerstan Blackmoore"] | {I}
The morning air washed over Adron's skin waking him from what had been an enjoyable slumber. His eyes opened, azure pearls cutting through the dark shadows of his room. There was a soft banging in the corner of the room, the Exarch's hand fell on the ebony lightsaber that sat on his nightstand. He pulled the cylinder from the wooden stand before turning to face the source of the noise. The window to his room slapped against the side of the wall absently, causing a small racket to erupt. The man held his hand to the window, leveling his palm against it, forcing it shut with a brief push through the Force. The sheets came down from his bare chest as he pushed himself up in the bed. He pinched the bridge of his nose, stifling a yawn as he tried to force himself to stay awake. He had not always been so paranoid. The man had been hunted his entire life. First by the Sith Ascendency, then by it's successor the Sith Empire, then by the Shrouded Republic before it was formed into the Eternal Empire. Assassins had come and gone, all failing to claim his life, and he never so much as missed a wink of sleep. Now it was different.

Adron glanced to the side, his eyes weighing on Alessandra who had yet to awaken. He sighed a breath of relief from the sight of the woman. She slept peacefully beside him, not so much as noticing the window that had come open. He drew his lips into a warm smile at the sight of her. He leaned over to the woman, pressing his lips to her shoulder as his hand came around to press into her belly. It swelled with their child, he smiled at that as well. Even though that was what caused him a good deal of stress. He had been extremely cautious these past few months. Careful to tell no one of the pregnancy, other than those closest to him. When he had found out Alessandra was pregnant, he'd spoken to [member="Srina Talon"] about their fate. Should Adron fall, she was to protect Alessandra and his heir, ensuring his line continued long after his death. Very much a possibility, the Exarch never placed much faith in his life expectancy.

He pulled the sheets over Alessandra, feeling her skin was cool to the touch. He enjoyed the morning chill that came with Nelvaan. Alessandra? She'd sooner burn the planet to the ground than deal with it's climate.

Again his lips brushed over her shoulder as he laid behind her. It was still early, even if they would need to rise soon a few more moments would not harm them. For the moment, he would turn his mind outward, away from his lover and fiance and to the planet around him. Adron trusted his brother, [member="Darth Tacitus"], despite their past. He had assured the Exarch when he agreed to take the position as the Eternal Vizier that his families safety would be prioritized, he did not dissapoint. The manor they stayed in was a fine one, and well defended at that. It was not far from Whisperwind Castle yet still it was a powerful structure in it's own right. Outside the castle, hundreds of Commando Droids patrolled the grounds endlessly, within there was a number of Adron's own Crimson Guard, a remnant force of the imperial Guard, and a team of Magnaguards who kept the underground passages secure. This would have been enough to hold off an army for a time, yet Kainan was not convinced. A team of Wardens of the Shroud had been tasked to the Vizier to oversee the safety of his bloodline. They were not quite Sith, but their power was undeniable and they stood out in the Force as open flames in the shadow of night.

Bump.

The pulse that came from Alessandra caused Adron to smile wide, something he seldom did. Feeling the life within her was perhaps the happiest moment he was capable of sharing with her. It had been Alessandra that brought that happiness to him and for that he was grateful. Everything he had forged since his time in The Confederacy, it had been with her support, her love, and no short amount of her help with the finances.

"Thank you..." his words were barely a whisper but still they were spoken. She deserved them, for she had done what he had most wanted, provided that which he had lost long ago. A family. He placed a hand upon her shoulder, giving her a gentle shake as his voice carried on to her. Like silk in the early morning, it was soft and warm. "It's time to wake up. We have to get ready." He told her as his fingers slid into her hair. He brushed his fingers down her back before pressing a kiss to her cheek. It took some time but he finally pulled hismelf from the covers. As he rose, drawing his back into a long, tight stretch he finally let out a much needed yawn. He could feel his legs give off subtle pops as he stretched them out from the night's rest. It felt good to sleep, even more so to sleep with Alessandra. The days had been long as late, and so many without her presence. In attempts to keep his wife busy, he'd asked her to oversee the work done on their planet of Illyria, meaning her presence was required there more often than not. Still, it did not stop her from continuing her duties of Miinister of Commerce. With Adron being an Exarch, King, and now advisor to the Eternal Empire his plate was no less full, but these few days together had been refreshing.

Adron made his way over to the refresher to begin his morning routine. When he looked into the mirror he saw his hair was a matted mess, desperately in need of a comb and various products. He turned to Alessandra, offering her a sly smile as he looked to her with a suggestive look. "Still...We do have some time." He said, smiling at the woman as he made his way over to the bed, combing his hair back with his fingers.

The ice planet of Nelvaan, home of the eternal empire, a militaristic state where power mean almost anything, sieged by frigid cold and dark days. It was quite the opposite of her planet, one that had become a new home to many displace people due to the wars, an arid landscape, void of snow except in the northern and southern most extremities. Yet, despite the differences there were similarities, a single monarch head of state, ruling over in an imperial fashion, the strong headed and loyal residences of the planet, willing to do what ever it took to achieve their goals and to top it all off both planets less then hospitable climates. Then again it would only make sense considering the two planets were neighbors, so close were one another often on star maps both planets shared the same coordinates. It came as an ever bigger surprise due to the fact either ruler of these two planets had ever met before or had ever opened up diplomatic relations, each being quite isolated, only reaching out to others when needed. Today, that would change, at least that is what the young princess hoped by attending this party hosted by [member="Faye Malvern"].
Her shuttle began it's final approach towards the ancient city, it's windscreen being battered by a constant assault of snow throughout the decent. Small shudders rocking the craft once it's landing gear touched down, a series of hisses and engine whirs preemptively signalling the crew to star disembarking processes, one of the pilots sneaking their way to the rear cabin, knocking twice. Several seconds passed before the door opened, followed by Chikako stepping into the hallway, hand brushing over her white dress, smoothing out any last creases in the fabric. "So, here we are, wish me luck tonight and I hope to see you ready to depart once finished, much work to be done back on Tythe", her words followed by a cheerful and childish smile. Despite this not being some formal meeting or planet important decision making event the young ruler still wanted to make a good impression to the Nelvaan hierarchy which in time would hopefully lead to some sort of future relationship.
With a quick but poise pace Chikako made her way to the back of the ship, one of her guards women already standing there with portable shield, though instead of combat such a device would be use to shield her monarch from he incoming weather as the two excited the craft. In that exact moment the Echani's face felt the full force of the cold planet chill, like small needles poking against her face with each step, a white gloved hand shielding her eyes from the onslaught. "Well, I can certainly say that it lives up to it's reputation, though let us not linger to much". Quickening her pace the princess entered into the main ball room, her guard lowing the energy shield and taking up a flanking position on her young women's side as the stepped further into the hall, both carrying themselves in a regal poise. Glancing around Chikako's blue gaze fell upon those present, seemed her arrival was ahead of the other guest, only being able to not another significant presence in the room. ([member="Kerstan Blackmoore"]) Their face and name eluded memory, perhaps a traveler from afar? or a political figure among the many CIS worlds? Such was hard to tell, but one thing was for certain, they had connections with the Eternal Empire or the Nelvaan royal family considering they were speaking with Raye.
For now she would wait and observe, see those who would also join the festivities and perhaps pick conversation with a few of them, depending on who they were and their reasons for coming here. Still, the ultimate goal remained, she would find a way to speak with the Nelvaan rulers one way or another.

Ball, in her city, it was such an honor. Today, she was the host here. This was the first time to manage a ball, She didn’t want to disappoint [member="Darth Tacitus"], or everyone else who came here today. Ingrid missing only one person, his husband, he didn’t come, he needed to be his planet. That was the hardest thing in their whole life. Sometimes the Witch thought about they will need to run away and live a simple life. But that was not her; Ingrid was loyal at the end, to the CIS and the Eternal Empire as well.

She ran her gaze in the ballroom, so many people, and yet, she feel herself lonely. She stood at one of the columns and leaned softly to it. One of her hands she held a glass of wine which glass was empty now. Maybe… maybe she needs to go everyone and said welcome. That was the right thing right now? Or just wait here until someone come to her? With her eyes she was looking Darth Tacitus. She sighed and shakes her head.

She was only baroness; she can’t run with every single problem to her emperor. Not even… not even what happened in his fortress. The dark side of the force, she still couldn't get that thing done. Ingrid was confused, lost. What she experienced it was new, very new to her. The baroness tried to diver her thoughts to the ball.

The oddest thing on the ball was the next to her. Here she was a noble woman, in the CIS too a monarch, wife of planetary ruler, but her primary profile was the thousand faces killer, assassin, a crow from the Ministry of Secrets. Sometimes she felt that she was breaking into pieces, but she choose this, she can’t ran away until the very end, until her death.

And the other thing, she feel herself naked. That was the first time she shows her real face, real identity to others. The Neelvan was the only place where she can do this. So here, except his emperor, don’t know she is the monarch of Christophsis. That thing was a little funny to Ingrid. When one of the waiters passed over her, put her glass on the tray.

When she looked at the others, she smiled faintly and waited quietly to someone…

A sharp breeze bringing the sting of a thousand frozen knives cut across the empty deck. It took no prisoners, ripping through the mock shelters that had been constructed on the rusting metal floor. The raven haired woman shivered, achingly numb fingers clutching tighter to the crafted crystal glass, as if it would provide her heat somehow. Midnight black marbles surrounded by weary caramel skin shifted slowly toward the smokeless flames that licked out toward the edges of her dress. Combined with the icy weather that seemed relentless in its on slaught, the fire seemed to do little to spread the heat any further than a few feet. Fine hairs littering the length of her arms stood to attention at the wind's call, bringing with them goosebumps that covered any portion of her bare flesh that had to the misfortune of being exposed to the elements.

Much like the whether, thoughts swirling in patterns too complex to follow invaded her mind. Soon she would be in the heart of another party. Soon she would be forced to feel people's joy, to have her heart strings tugged as wave after wave of love, friendship and laughter filled the ancient ship. Whilst they would all be real emotions per say, none belonged to her. Torturous though the party would be, Faye had made a promise to her brother [member=Darth Tacitus]. She would throw him a remembrance day that would be talked about for years to come. She had done her best, but most of the sweet, childlike qualities of her personality had melted as quickly as snow in the summer sun. Her spark for life as she had once known it had been crushed. By hardship, by grief, by the sorrow of a love almost found and lost just as quickly.

Faye sighed into the wind, watching as her breath caught a powerful gust of the pure white steam. A frenzied dance occurred between the swirling snow and the fanciful patterns the exhale had made in the air. Her beloved brother [member=Adron Malvern] would be arriving soon. That alone was not the reason for her heavyhearted sigh, and neither was the onyx haired woman he would bring along with him, [member=Alessandra Creed]. Faye could recall her words to the happy couple, they fluttered about in her empty mind like a bird trapped in a cage. 'I'm so happy for you.' 'Father would be proud.' 'Yes, I'm excited to be an aunt.'. The words weren't exactly lies, nor were they false. She was happy for the couple, though more overjoyed that Adron had found joy in Alessandra and that she had managed to tame him. She was exceedingly fond of the woman, almost as much as she was of her blood relatives. Faye just couldn't bare to be a part of it all. Nothing could stir the long forgotten emotion of happiness in her soul, and being surrounded by the hollow feeling of other's bliss was a torture she couldn't fathom to put into words.

Though she had yet to realise, the disturbed sanctuary she had made herself in the midst of the deluge would not continue for much longer. A creeping sensation of curiosity and amusement took hold of her, followed quickly by a wave of darkness. Faye recognised the feelings, they felt muted. More softer than they would if they were her own. Slim shoulders turned blue with the cold seemed to tense up as her suspicions were confirmed. Even over the howling wind her ears picked up on the sound of heavy heeled boots clacking over the metal walk ways, a sign that someone approached. Before he could sense her unrest Faye relaxed her stance as best she could given the weather. 'I'm sure it would have been.' The gravely baritone voice did not tempt her to turn. 'Though it still remains a marvel, even with the marks of old age.' Faye responded in a dry tone, accent thick with a long forgotten nobility. She knew it would not be the last time that sentence left her lips this evening.

Before she could hope to shun him into finding someone more interested in conversation, something dawned on Faye. The so called heir to a throne had spoken of the newly built bridge as if he had witnessed it. Faye cursed herself, knowing that she couldn't allow him to walk away without an explanation. When she finally worked up the courage to face the stranger with every intention of refusing his rather polite offer of a coat, she realised how cold she actually was. With the blood red wine in her glass practically drained she felt no qualms with crossing her arms over her chest to provide some protection from the cold. 'It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Francesca Malvern, the Emperor's younger sister.' Her shivering lips pressed together for a brief second as she considered the benefits of accepting help from someone with an aura that made her feel just a little uneasy, but the cold quickly got the better of her. 'I would be very grateful for it, Mr Blackmoore. Thank you.'

Reasoning: Security Detail Tonight

Although tonight was about celebration Corran and his mate Oscar Moondew both stood not far from the host as a hidden security detail. They had weapons should they require them as well as a few other tools behind them. They hadn't been asked to be security but then again blackwatch wasn't asked to do much of anything that they wouldn't have already done anyway. Gives most people plausible deniability which they much preferred to knowing what black watch did anyways.

Corran was one of the worst in black watch too. He had no morals left and full deniability to anything and everything he did in their name but he got results faster than most other operatives and that's all black watch cared about. They didn't mind he was a soulless killer as long as he did his job and did it well. That suited corran just fine as many of the items he had made for things were better of not out in the open anyways.

Still the two of them watched on at the party ready should anything occur to their host or any other members of the EE. The confederates present took secondary priority to them. However they would still attempt to protect them with their lives should it be called for. But right now they looked like a couple just enjoying the party and they would stay that way until needed.

Her gaze did not move from the bridge as it passed. Kerstan was only greeted by the soft and sultry alto which carried the slightest hint of noble speech. Indeed the bridge itself was a marvel, but it seemed his meaning had passed over her head for now. Ker smirked as he knew it would eventually find her. A deep breath was taken in, the cold instantly hitting his lungs. It was an invigorating thing, enough to keep one awake. Kerstan had found it odd that she was alone, but for such a woman there was always a reason for it. Her body spoke of something deep, not a secret Kerstan would uncover in one night of simple mock chivalry and noble intention.

“I assure you the pleasure is all mine Lady Francesca, and may I add you are much too beautiful to be Tacitus’ sister. Am I to believe we shall dispense with the formal rules of nobility then? This does not seem a night to be confined to titles such as Lady, Lord, or Prince.”

It was a subtle correction but also an offer. Kerstan hated the formality and posturing of the noble elite. His ideal was to let his own confidence and power speak for himself. A title was nothing without the power to keep it, and Kerstan was fully aware his title was simply an empty thing as long a pretender sat on Indupar’s throne.

His coat slipped off his broad shoulders easily revealing the black and green tunic underneath. It was the color of midnight and forest, yet still warm enough that he did not freeze. The coat lighted around Faye’s shoulders gently with the well practiced ease of noble training. Kerstan had missed nothing in his formal education and etiquette courses. If the part of the noble gentleman was required Kerstan could outshine them all. His mother had insisted.

Eyes looked over his shoulder and found [member="Corran Conner"] standing guard with his partner. Dark eyes moved from them with barely a modicum if recognition. They were not there to be noticed, but Kerstan missed nothing. Always observing and making himself aware of his surroundings, the Sith Lord ensured there would be nothing which could surprise him. The chocolate eyes returned to the woman, following the curves of her femininity until his eyes settled on the glass of wine in her hand. Another smile, crafty and serpentlike tugged at his lips.

“My father certainly knew how to bottle a good drink. What is in your hand is older than this bridge. I do hope it agrees with you?”

Kerstan projected a sinister confidence. Perhaps he was too arrogant for his own good, but there was a mystery and a darkness this woman carried herself and Kerstan would know it all before he was done. Even now his mind played about at the possibilities of such things and the use they could provide to his many goals, for both home and the Empire. In the meantime, this was a party.

His gaze went to the fire, and with a rotation of his hand, the flame grew a bit taller. It was enough to warm them better, subtle enough that perhaps his trick had gone unnoticed.

    Nelvaan, The Eternal Empire

4jnHXND.gif

A man walked up to the podium, his slitted, cat-like eyes surveying the silent regiments gathered before him, all standing at attention in perfect, motionless formation as they waited to hear the words of their leader. The cold wind swept down from above, whipping the falling snow into a frenzy, lashing down like a thousand icy daggers. The man's heavy, fur-lined cloak snapped viciously at the touch of the bone-chilling wind, leaving him unprotected against the cold except for the immaculate military uniform which he wore, of a color like the whitest mountain snows, contrasting violently with the dark leather scabbard of the sword that hung from his belt. Yet, the man did not seem to mind the vicious wind, or the savage cold, standing in the midst of it like an immovable pillar, as if proclaiming his defiance against nature itself.

He raised a hand towards the heavens and, with the bearest hint of effort on his face, cast his indomitable will into the invisible currents of the Force, reaching far and wide, to the very edges of the ancient city and up into the clouds above. Like a battering ram, he threw his will against the winds and falling snow and forced them into submission, a few beads of sweat and a subtle tension in the corners of his eyes being the only visible signs of strain. By his command, the snow stopped falling. By his command, the vicious wind halted its relentless assault upon the city, even if only briefly. Satisfied, the Eternal Emperor of Nelvaan lowered his hand as his attention returned to the assembled formations of soldiers and the crowds that stood with bated breath beyond. His eyes swept across the gathered masses with hard, steely determination in their gaze as he drew in a breath and slowly released it, choosing to preserve the silence for just a little while longer.

On Nelvaan, it was often said that time flies by swifter than the summer warmth. For the Eternal Empire, that statement seemed very much true, if one looked at the nation's history and all that it had endured. Its story began at Krayiss II, with the Sith Empire's devastating campaign against the Dominion, which left behind a shattered civilization. It all seemed like such a long time ago, now, the Eternal Empire so far removed from its humble beginnings as a battered fleet of refugees. Its path through history had been harsh and its people had faced nearly impossible odds, as if fate itself conspired to bring about the small nation's obliteration. Through sheer grit, determination and ruthlessness, the Eternal Empire withstood all that, surviving the horrors that had been inflicted upon it by an uncaring galaxy, twice being subjected to genocide, each time somehow managing to cling desperately to the thinnest thread of life. Through all that, the Emperor had led his nation, diligently carrying out the duties required of him by his office with relentless determination.

When he spoke, he did so with a raspy voice which commanded authority, his words spoken in High Nelvaanian, the language of the proud nation, broadcast across thousands of holoprojectors large and small, some set up in public squares for the gathered crowds, others in people's homes.

"My people... Sons and daughters of Nelvaan... For many years, we have suffered at the flimsy whims of fate because a decade ago, those who let themselves be deluded by the lies of the Lightside have led us down the path of false comfort and blissful ignorance! Cast out into the cold vacuum of space, we were, for our mistakes and there, we learned the error of our ways."

"For many years, our nation has withstood the threats of those who sought to deny us our right to exist. Many dark and grim days we have faced, until it seemed as if the terrible night would never end. It is only through the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty, that we have endured and emerged on the other side a stronger nation."

"Today, we gather here to honor those who clung onto our dream, they, who through their heroic sacrifices, have insured that we, the Eternal Empire, not just survive, but grow and thrive! Many hardships we have faced and many more still lie before us! Our brave soldiers have fought and bled across this galaxy, paying for the nation's continued existence with their blood, on Krayiss II, on Nibelungen, on Winter, on Tund and Dredd and Tatooine, on Copero, Eshan and Kuat amongst many more!"

"Today, we pledge to them that we shall carry on the torch, that we shall live by the examples they have set for us! Never again shall we allow ourselves to be corrupted by meaningless comforts and the thousand hedonistic temptations of selfish pursuits! Never again shall we allow ourselves to become soft and weak and never shall we allow ourselves to forget the sacrifices that have led us here! We shall remain strong, united under a singular purpose!"

"My fellow citizens of Nelvaan, honor thus your fallen comrades, the sacred martyrs of this nation. Honor them through your actions and your service. Honor them by following the example that they have given us! Follow in their footsteps and elevate yourselves out of cowardly civilianship through military service, raise our crimson banner high upon the battlefields to come and in times of peace, devote yourselves diligently to your work and place the needs of the nation above your own!"

"Honor them by adding your voice to ours as here, today, we proclaim as one, loudly and boldly to all those who would hear us, that government of the soldiers, by the soldiers, for the soldiers, shall never perish from this galaxy! For it is the only fair and just way by which our nation may be ruled and thus, it shall endure in perpetuity. That, in our martyrs' names, we shall make it so."

"Honor the fallen, now and forever," he commanded, saluting the soldiers before him with his closed fist crossed over his heart, the assembled regiments mimicking the gesture with a thunderclap of gauntlets against armor, many of the bystanders taking up the salute as well. As he turned and stepped off the podium, the assembled crowds, citizens and civilians alike, lit paper lanterns and set them loose to fly into the unnaturally still air. Hundreds of tiny lights rose to the heavens, soon joined by others cast from city streets, from boats moored at their docks on the river's shore, from the windows of shops and homes, until they became thousands, like a myriad of fireflies emerging from the ancient city.

The Emperor released his unnatural grip upon the weather as the military parade began, the wind picked up again and once more, the snows started falling, albeit more calmly than before, as if the universe itself had held its breath and only now dared to let it loose. In other cities and towns across the frigid planet, candles and paper lanterns were lit and regiments of troops marched upon avenues and parade grounds as the entire world commemorated its greatest heroes, the countless soldiers to whom this day had been dedicated.

The Emperor's dropship did not take long to traverse the distance to the Malvern yacht, which floated gently in the icy waters. The small Styx-class dropship was identical to all others used by the various branches of the Nelvaanian military, as Tacitus was a man who abhorred unnecessary luxury, especially when a simpler, more practical option was available to him. A hard ruler of a hard, unforgiving nation, who held himself to the same standards he demanded that his followers adhere to.

Military boots clanged against the deck of the ship as Tacitus and a full squad of ten Wolfguards disembarked and stepped upon the vessel. A massive Loth Wolf trotted alongside the Emperor, named Whisper, Tacitus' Sithspawn companion which the Emperor was rumored to have rescued, although very few knew that story.

The Emperor's eyes scanned the faces of the assembled officials and greeted them with a slow nod. "My esteemed guests... Thank you all, for attending this celebration of Nelvaan's heroes. Thank you, Baroness L'lerim, for being our gracious host in this city. And to my dear sister, thank you for organizing this event. You all have my deepest gratitudes."

Faye could not contain the wince in her eyes the words 'Lady Francesca', it had been so long since someone had used that title. He moved the conversation swiftly on, enough so that Faye's mind didn't linger on the thought too long. Smiling at a compliment was the polite, ordinary thing to do, so Faye's face obeyed and put on the most flattered expression she could manage. 'Thank you for your kind compliments.' Sharp obsidian eyes traversed the length of his frame quickly, a genuinely amused grin on her face as she spoke the next few words. 'I'm sure Tacitus would be delighted with them too.' Anyone who knew Tacitus well enough would know that he was often disinclined to smile. Faye herself could count on one hand the times she had seen the expression on the man. In response to his second statement she nodded her head briefly, tumbling waves of midnight hair shifting against her shoulders. 'Perhaps that would be best. I've not been known as Lady Francesca for quite some time now. Faye will do.'

The weight of the coat provided some kind of comfort in the form of warmth, mostly still radiating from the body heat of the man who had just placed it over her shoulders. Cautiously, as if she expected to find something grim at the end of either one of them, she slipped her arms into the padded sleeves. As the frozen chill encasing her began to seep away there was little else to do but finally take in the so called Prince. From her initial impressions he seemed pleasant enough, but Faye wasn't really interested in pleasant anymore. The thing that kept her glued to his flickering shadow was the unfathomable feeling of a dark and ancient secret, it forced itself into her mind like waves crashing upon a shore. Kerstan might have presented himself as a man of noble blood, acting on all the implications it came with, but Faye could see. Picking the differences between real and false emotions had been incredibly difficult when she had first come to terms with being an empath. Now it was as easy as telling the difference between fire whiskey and water.

Her eyes lazed absently over to the glass clutched in her hand. It was good wine, even now she could feel the buzz of alcohol tickling the ends of her fingers. It wasn't the question he had posed that she focused her thoughts on though, rather the comment that had come before it. Crimson liquid in the crystalline glass swirled with the ginger movement of her wrist, bringing the waves it created dangerously close to rim. 'I must admit I don't have the taste buds for fine wine. I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between this wine and a bottle you could pay five credits for.' Faye let the liquid settle once more, returning her gaze back to Kerstan. 'I mean no offence, of course. By nature wine is delicious, and this one does what it's intended to do.' She brought the crystal glass up to her painted lips to drain the last of the blood red alcohol. 'But, tell me something. How could your Father have possibly bottled this before the bridge was built? It was centuries ago...'

Though it was almost too subtle, Faye found her attention drawing toward the orange glow they were cast in. Fire was her forte, along with its equally powerful brother water. Faye would have been disappointed in herself if she hadn't caught the subtle change in the flame's brightness. Lips parted, all ready to question him further on his strange comment about the bridge and the wine, when the sudden halting of the bright white deluge ceased suddenly. There was no need to check who it was, she already knew. 'I believe that's the Emperor arriving.' She turned on the sharp heel of her shoe to exit the shelter now that the snow had died down, motioning to Kerstan with fingers that were almost lost in the sleeve of his coat. Ordinarily this would have been the perfect excuse to escape, but she still wanted answers. She still wanted to know about the bridge, and the wine, and the secret. 'Come with me to greet him.'

Faye waited for no reply. There wasn't any need. She could feel his intrigue for her almost as keenly as she could feel her own intrigue in him. Stepping from the ring of heat she found herself even more grateful for the coat, even if it was extremely big for her. With nothing to do but wait for Tacitus' drop ship to land, she afforded herself the time to appreciate the thousands of dimly glowing lanterns as they floated across the grey sky. Faye produced a quick smile that she kept to herself, the effect really was quite dazzling. She kept the steadily fading orbs in her vision until the humming sound of an engine followed by her brother's gravelly tone drew her back to the deck of the ship. A polite applause spread over the slowly gathering crowd of people and Faye used it to walk the short distance from the shelter to Tacitus.

'Tacitus.' The smile she placed on her expression wasn't as hard as the one she had formed for Kerstan. [member=Darth Tacitus] was family, blood, one of her only remaining siblings. Though the smile on her face still felt false it was easier to produce and much easier to keep there. 'The lanterns looked beautiful.' She lent forward, perching on the tip of her toes to press a warm kiss to the side of his cheek.

The young Echani's eyes continued to scan the ball room while patiently waiting for more quest to arrive, noting that [member="Faye Malvern"] was still in deep discussion with the somewhat gruff looking visitor. From the distance she stood it was almost impossible to tell what words passed between the two, though through body language and facial expression she had an idea. Something along the line of an introduction and some compliments towards the women were her first guess, her flattered expression gave such away, beyond that the last few sentences were lost on the princess. Not that is was her business, she'd respect the twos privacy and let them discuss what ever matters they had at hand. A brief though did cross her mind about going up and starting her own introductions, but such thinking came to a halt pretty quickly, not knowing if such actions would be considered disrespectful, the customs of this planet were still unknown.

For now, she would stand and wait, her dress moving, rippling like water as the cold wind continued it's endless push along the fabric, that was until it died down suddenly, almost as if the weather had been brought to a sudden stand still. Not many people had the power or technology to do such a feat, Chikako's mind coming to a single conclusion, that [member="Darth Tacitus"] was performing something currently, perhaps an indication of their soon to be arrival and official beginning of this gathering, in her mind at least. Not but a few minutes later the humming of a ships engine echoed through the building, Faye turning and making haste towards the landing area, Chikako silently following her, giving a small bow to the other man ([member="Kerstan Blackmoore"]) as she passed by. A mental note being made to learn the persons identity at some point to avoid any awkward interactions later on in the night, besides, his attendance had started to intrigue the young Viceroy.

Eye focused on the landing ramp of the drops ship, looking on with anticipation as the ruler of Nelvaan made their appearance, greeting the assembly along with hostess while making their approach. Faye embracing the man affectionately in the slightly calmer weather, it was a odd sight to behold when comparing the man to all the other reports, that of a merciless warlord and warrior. Seemed that even the hardy and powerful had room in their life for affection and joy, quite the interesting sight.

His smile was almost snakelike at the suggestion Tacitus would appreciate the compliments as well as the woman had. They both knew that was likely untrue, and the small attempt at humor was appreciated. Kerstan may have been a twisted man but he did enjoy a good joke. Not all evil men were devoid of a good sense of humor. It was simply the darkness of his personality which hid the other parts of who the man was. His taste for art and finer things was even muted by the far reach of his dark shadow. To know Kerstan was to know shadow, and he would not have it any other way. He knew what he projected, and it was often intentional. What he did not know was how strong of an empath the woman he stood next to was. She would see past everything he projected to his true self. Faye would sense the darkness that wound a tight grip around his stone heart.

Kerstan nodded in agreement when Faye took his offer to dispense of noble pleasantries. They were antiquated and not needed at such an event despite those that would begin to posture the moment Tacitus arrived. He had seen it all. Empires were no different than monarchies in the regard that people postured for proximity to the top. Kerstan remained as he was. His own reputation and power would earn him what he needed, not some half baked attempt to kiss the rear end of the man in charge. Besides, promotions were never a direct route. One needed a different path, such as a sister perhaps.

“Faye it will be then. It is much prettier than Francesca anyway. Kerstan will be fine, Ker if you prefer.”

His head canter his head once more as Ker took in the oversized coat around her frame. She was swimming in the cloth as it hid her attractive curves from view. There was something else however, the intrigue which was still etched on her face had told Kerstan he was likely her guest for the remainder of the evening perhaps.

She lifted the wine to her lips after explaining her lack of knowledge. It was a subject he could bore anyone with, the way it was made, bottled, and stored. With wine as a main export of the Crown Worlds even to this day, Kerstan was quite knowledgeable of what went into the entire production. The best wines were the ones whose masters paid attention to detail. While Kerstan was not bottling any himself, those who worked for him did. One way back to the top was through economic means.

“I am not offended. Not everyone has the taste for it, nor do they prefer it. The fact you seem to enjoy it is satisfaction enough for me.” His words were sincere. “And I am even more pleased with your intrigue.”

Yes, Faye has been curious about how the drink she had just drained from her cup could be older than the bridge. It was clear she had not run into anyone of his species or genetic make up before. The darkness which held him was as part of his story as the age he boasted. A small smile played at his lips as he took a slow drink, allowing the question to settle on the air, the mystery and anticipation which wrapped around the answer he was making her wait for would be ripe. The fire grew as his hand removed the glass from his lips and dark eyes captured those of the woman.

“I am older than this bridge…” Kerstan began as the weather suddenly shifted.

The speech came over the wind and it suddenly died down. The shift caused Faye to recognize her brother’s arrival, to which she motioned for Kerstan to follow. There was just enough mystery that she would keep him around until she was satisfied. He was just as intrigued with the darkness which radiated off her, which was why he follows after. Aside from the fact she still had his coat, it was equally clear to him that she likely knew he was just as fascinated. It seemed they would both be playing games around the same position.

As he turned to follow, Kerstan’s eyes fell on and Echani which had been watching them. [member="Chikako Liona"] seemed to be moving as they did, with a warry and keen eye on him especially. Kerstan looked directly at her and motioned for her to follow. Though the dark side he dropped a simple sentence in her mind. “You should not stand so far back little one.”

His attention turned back to Faye and followed her to where Tacitus exited the ship. As soon as he had said his greeting and thanks, Faye approached him. Kerstan kept his distance as the woman placed a kiss on her brother’s cheek, the exact distance which was appropriate for such an occasion. While Faye had agreed to dispense with formality, Tacitus had not, and he was the emperor, even if Kerstan aspired to be a king. His place for now was to be subservient to the right degree.
