    • 65% Droids.
    • 10% Other (Xenos Lifeforms.)
  • Accessibility: Restricted: No Public Access.
    • With dozens of warships of variable sizes being constructed at one time or another, Republic Engineering considered their security to be paramount. Not only did the Corporation seek to dissuade enterprising individuals from stealing their merchandise, but they sought to safeguard their wares from hostile factions - looking to bolster their forces, and lay claim to the orbital shipyards that ringed Centax II. To do this, several layers of security were established and were designed not to infringe with the sovereign skylines of Coruscant. The first layer of the OCA was a circular ring of sensor beacons that designated several hundred kilometres around the moon as a restricted area - giving access clearance only to designated REC vessels, or vetted shuttlecraft and transports. There was also a guarded access point that allowed for direct access to the moon’s surface - which was used by the other companies who claimed small portions of the moon for themselves. The second layer consisted of rigidly controlled traffic lanes, transponder buoys and transfer ports (civilian/freighter/military,) that were protected by rotating patrols of Republic Engineering-aligned warships and starfighters - who collectively operated as the Orbital Station’s primary method(s) of defence. The third and final layer was the integrated defences of the station itself, which were further reinforced by a dedicated flotilla of Thyrsian Mercenaries, whose warships and orbiting Citadel acted as a rapid reaction force should problems arise.
  • Description:
    • The orbital station that housed the primary operations of the Republic Engineering Corporation had humble origins, as it was a long-term project that began in the era before the light of civilization was snuffed out by the plague. As the original station expanded throughout the centuries, bit by bit, it was eventually nationalized by the One Sith as they took over the proverbial centre of the Galaxy. The Sith-Imperials within their hierarchy saw the advantage of having a large-scale production facility in the heart of their territory and picked up where the automated processes left off. Through their massive source of funding, additional modules were completed and added to the growing superstructure. When Coruscant fell into the hands of the Galactic Alliance, their administration allowed the Republic Engineering Corporation to reclaim their lost property - so long as the Company agreed to help the Queen of the Core recover from her wounds. To that end, what began as an orbital shipyard expanded to wholly encompass the moon with construction facilities, and modular installations tasked towards the creation of new starships. While the exterior is reminiscent of those that sunk their time and effort into the construction of the Orbital Ring, the Interior of the myriad Facilities has gone through several refurbishments throughout the station’s recent history. These regular renovations usually involved the complete overhaul of ageing systems and refreshments in the latest design fashion that was notably pleasing to the eye - according to a majority of species from across the known universe.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: Civilian and Military Starships of varying Sizes.
    • Starfighters and Small Craft,
    • Corvettes,
    • Frigates,
    • Cruisers,
    • Star Destroyers,
    • Battlecruisers.
  • Specialty: Primarily Starships, but is Capable of Producing Droids, Arms, and Armour.
  • Output: Optimal - Due to the heavy standardization of REC’s starships, and the various automated construction processes that the Drive Yards offer, this Facility was capable of producing vessels much faster than comparable stations. However, in comparison to their larger, planetary-encompassing cousins, this Orbital Ring wasn't able to keep up with their volume - thus REC placed a greater focus on alacrity and quality, rather than quantity.
    • Designs and Build Times may vary.
      • Starfighters and Small Craft: ~ Days (Approximately.)
      • Corvettes: ~ Weeks (Approximately.)
      • Frigates: ~ One Month (Approximately.)
      • Cruisers: ~ Two Months (Approximately.)
      • Star Destroyers: ~ Three Months (Approximately.)
      • Battlecruisers: ~ Four Months (Approximately.)
  • Market: Intergalactic - As Coruscant was once considered to be the proverbial beating heart of the Galaxy, and remains to this day as a critical trade hub that bound several major hyperlanes together, REC is capable of readily supplying their customers across the known universe.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Passenger Transfer Port: [Orbiting Quadrant Four]
    • Adding another layer into their overall security measures, REC utilizes a refurbished space station to act as their civilian customs port. From here, millions of customers and employees would find themselves transferring to and from the Orbital Ring - ensuring that no goods would be smuggled out, or contraband being smuggled in. There were even constant streams of shuttles stopping off at the station, either transferring their passengers to collect their newly purchased items or returning home after completing their shift.
  • Freight Transfer Port: [Orbiting Quadrant Two]
    • There is little that can be said of the Freight transfer port, as it was a refurbished space station that acted as a customs waystation between the Orbital Ring, and the rest of the known Galaxy thereafter. From here, thousands of transports would be stopped and their cargo inspected as it left the Orbital Ring and came into the restricted space.
  • Military Transfer Port: [Orbiting Quadrant Three]
    • Of the three auxiliary space stations that were a part of the Centax II Drive Yards, the Military Transfer Port was the one that found itself heavily defended, in comparison to its kin. The reason for this was that the port acted as a transfer point for outgoing REC-designed warships, and an incoming port for military personnel. Thus, to ensure that there was a smooth transfer of ownership REC Security Forces kept one of their most powerful vessels anchored nearby - alongside an armed reactionary force - should things take a turn for the worse.
  • Primary Operations Centre: [Quadrant One]
    • With much of the Orbital Ring being automated, the station required a centralized control centre that would regulate the various processes of Centax II’s operation. To that end, the REC employs an advanced, and decentralized Artificial Intelligence to oversee the myriad operational functions of the facility. Thus, an entire swathe of the station was dedicated to housing various processors and servers required by the networked droid brains to effectively run the station with minimal organic oversight.
  • REC Security Force(s) Command Hub: [Quadrant One]
    • While much of the station was in the hands of an advanced artificial intelligence, many of its fundamental processes - especially those regarding the safety and comfort of the station’s organic population - were hardwired into the command centre of REC’s own dedicated security forces. From here, the brave men and women of the Security Branch would see to the continued and smooth operation of the facility, ensuring that every threat was dealt with swiftly and in accordance to company policy, as well as within the letter of Coruscant’s law.
  • Machine Shops and Foundries: [Quadrant Two]
    • The Machine shops and Foundries were the proverbial heart of REC’s operations in the heavens above Centax II. With a multitude of Molecular Funrances located in the Refinement and Processing Slips, their reconstituted Product is delivered to the Foundries - which then reshape and reforge the material(s) according to a precise schematic. Without the Foundries, or the Machine Shops that fabricate the essential components for construction, Centax II wouldn’t be capable of operating as a self-contained facility - and their schedules would be rife with unwarranted and untimely delays.
  • Refinement / Processing Slips: [Quadrant Two]
    • Here, in the Refinement and Processing slips, much of the incoming freight and salvage recovered from Coruscant's surface, and the surrounding System was turned into usable material via the integrated molecular furnaces, and variable foundries located within.
  • Modular Drydocks and Construction Berths: [Quadrant(s) One, Two and Four]
    • It is within the Construction Berths and Drydocks that the true magic of the Orbital Shipyards occurs, as these dedicated Bays house all the materials and automated systems that work tirelessly to create the standardized array of REC Starships. Due to their modular design, these slips could be made to accommodate almost every classification of Starship, from the humble Starfighter to the mighty Battlecruiser.
  • Repair and Refit Docks: [Quadrant Three]
    • While much of the Orbital Ring is dedicated to the construction of new starships, the Centax II Drive Yards also houses a comprehensive Repair and Refit facility, that allows vessels of every classification and denomination to enter into pressurized environments so that they can be lovingly repaired, or refitted, by skilled technicians and automated machines.
  • Residential and Habitation Modules: [Quadrant Four]
    • Although the Station was primarily populated by artificial and synthetic staff, there were sections of the Orbital Ring that were dedicated to housing an organic population. There were designated domiciles for REC employees, each of which offered a comfortable habitation unit alongside integrated recreational facilities. For their transient customers, REC offered a measure of similar apartments that could be used to house themselves whilst their ordered products are constructed.
  • Commercial Zone(s): [Quadrant Four]
    • The Centax II Drive Yards houses a comprehensive collection of commercial outlets, where space is rented out to those wanting premium property, but are unable to open up shop on Coruscant proper. Naturally, REC owns several districts which they utilize to advertise their newest offerings, as well as gauge the interest of their would-be customers - ideally leading towards the creation of new offerings.
  • Passenger and Cargo Hangar Bays: [Quadrant(s) One, Two, Three and Four]
    • Everything that gets transferred into the Orbital Ring has to go somewhere, thus to facilitate the disembarkation of goods and passengers, the Station houses hundreds of hangar bays that range in size and depth. To ensure that the disembarked goods got where they were where they’re supposed to go, several internal mag-tram lines connected the entirety of the station together - making sure everything got to where it needed to be, in the safest manner possible.
  • Thyrsian Enclave: [Orbiting Quadrant One]
    • Restricted to almost every REC employee, the Thyrsian Enclave is located above the Orbital Ring and houses a complement of Thyrsian Technologists, who work in tandem with REC Technicians to create proprietary items for use by the orbiting Mercenary Outfit, and the distant elements of the Thyrsian Navy.
SECURITY
  • Security Rating: Maximum.
  • Shipyard Defenses:
    • Rotary Point Defence Cannons.
    • Integrated Deflector Shield Generators, with Multiple Internalized Shield Emitters.
    • Heavy Tractor Beam Projectors, situated around the Construction Berth(s) and Hangar Bay(s.)
    • Long-Range Sensors, with Sensor Relay Satellites.
    • Standard Space Station Systems and Defenses; (Anti-Slicing Mechanisms, Communications, Emergency Bulkheads, Blast Doors and Force Shields, Etc.)
    • Internal, Concealed Autoblasters.
    • Internal, Emergency Atmospheric Ventilation Protocols (Encrypted Access, with Triple Pyrowalled Security Measures.)
    • Internal, Datacore Systems Purge (Encrypted Access, with Triple Pyrowalled Security Measures.)
  • Dedicated Shipyard Taskforce:
    • To defend their Drive Yards against the various threats that stalk the known universe, the Republic Engineering Corporation has installed a Corporate Protection Fleet comprised of their own warships and strike craft. While many Corporations would elect to hire nothing more than Mercenaries to keep their assets protected - it's REC's belief that if they can't trust their own products to do what they've designed them to do - then why should their customers? Thus, it is a common sight to see many Republic Engineering vessels patrolling the perimeter of the Orbital Installation, and sending starships packing - should they violate the established security protocols.
    • Commonly Sighted Warship Models:
    • Shipyard Security Forces:
      • While the dedicated flotilla of Republic Engineering Warships sees to the Defense and Security of the Installation, the Corporation employs a Taskforce of trained Officers and Battle Droids - outfitted with REC produced gear - to ensure the safety of the local population; be they employees, potential customers, or landed merchants. Routine checks and inspections in each Quadrant are common, but such invasive measures are often employed as the populace transfers in, or out of the station - making sure nothing is stolen.
    • Thyrsian Mercenary Naval Forces:
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Centax II Drive Yards was a sprawling space station that began as a single module, and eventually grew to encompass the entire circumference of the Coruscanti Moon. The Station’s story began in the years leading up to the Four Hundred Years of Darkness, as the Republic Engineering Corporation found itself in an uncharacteristic period of prosperity before life as they knew it came to an end. For years, the Corporation was struggling to break back into the Starship scene, and found failure at almost every turn. That was, until their designs found merit in the hands of the Galactic Alliance Defence Fleet, whose contracts allowed them to produce the first module of their Shipyard. No longer would they have to sublet and borrow from other Shipwrights to produce their wares, as they would have their own Station. With their preference for advanced automation, the Station would find itself blissfully sealed and awaiting new orders whilst the Galaxy around them collapsed into an apocalyptic dark age.

As sapient life claws its way back from the abyss, the Republic Engineering Corporation was dealt a blow from which it would likely never recover from. Much of their organic workforce was long dead, and many their synthetics were succumbing to rampancy or degradation. It was a situation that was the furthest from ideal. However, there was a glimmer of hope. Those Synthetics that weren’t succumbing to the failures of technology found themselves capable of restoring the Corporation - bit by bit. Yet, their greatest obstacle during the rebuilding process was the resurgent Organic population returning to the stars. Many governments and factions amongst the galaxy sought to lay claim to the station, but were unable to keep themselves from resisting the technomancers of the One Sith.

When their facility rebelled against them, and their localized assets were nationalized, the Republic Engineering Corporation fled to the Outer Rim in the hopes of surviving the coming darkness.

As the One Sith took control of the Drive Yards, they began expanding the Station’s module and fleshing out the facility to suit their ever-increasing demands for war material. It wasn’t until nearly three-quarters of the Orbital Ring was complete that the One Sith collapsed beneath its own weight - leaving room for the Galactic Alliance to swoop in, liberating the system not long after. With the station nearly completed, and Republic Engineering making their triumphant return to the system, the Corporation managed to reclaim their property and finish what was started. Sadly, the interior decoration of their reacquired station didn’t meet the specifications of the venerable Corporation - thus as they committed themselves to finishing this generational station - they also sought to replace and erase any aesthetic or programming left behind by the Sith.

Whilst they completed their monumental project, five centuries in the making, the Corporation kept striving to meet the demands of their ever-growing customer base. When all was said and done, Republic Engineering kicked their production into overdrive. Through the standardization of their starship designs, and advanced automation - their newly constructed station was capable of pumping out warships in record time. The only drawback they encountered was that they weren’t able to keep up with the demands placed on the considerably larger orbital shipyards utilized by Kuat Drive Yards, or the other planetary encompassing rings. However, as they produced them marginally faster, due to the minor mechanical errors and seemingly non-existent human faults, the Board of Directors believed that the trade-off between quantity and alacrity was worth it.

Learning their lesson from the past, due to the Sith nationalizing their local assets, the Republic Engineering Corporation reached out to a proverbial superpower for hire and purchased their premium services indefinitely. They gave the Thyrsian Mercenaries a home amongst the stars, and a place to call their own whilst they fought to liberate their homeland. They also gave the very same Sun Guard a golden opportunity to utilize their production facilities to create their own line of warships to reinforce their ever-growing armada. In addition to the Gilded Sellswords, Republic Engineering founded their own Security Forces Division - who further augmented the Thyrsian Flotilla with REC-branded products and warships. This incorporation would see to the safety of the Corporation’s assets within the Coruscant system, and likely deter any enterprising criminals away from the juicy score that awaited them within the Orbital Ring.

I love how comprehensive this is. It builds on both your company and the Thyrisian elements you've been worldbuilding with. At the same time, there's a few pieces to this that are not really relevant to the shipyard submission itself that I want to focus on for a bit.

Specifically, I'll start by addressing the Security section. There's a substantial number of ships and support forces that better comprise a Fleet submission. While the recurring or frequent presence of ships is a notable security feature, the exact composition and numbers game doesn't belong on the shipyard submission -- because they're not a part or component of the shipyard. For that reason, I'd ask that you to remove the by-the-numbers ship composition from this submission (consider making it a separate fleet submission) and focus, instead, on the shipyard defenses that are components of the shipyard itself.

At the same time, you've developed your vision for this shipyard enough to distinguish it from the linked Ringo Vinda Space Station. Certainly, the level of security that you are describing is not implicated by the linked Wookieepedia article. By detailing out the various transfer ports and slips (Points of Interest), you've nested space stations within this submission. I'll caution you that the defenses you've articulated could result in your being asked to submit those to the factory for their own space stations submissions if this submission were to be abused later on down the line, but for our purposes I'll merely note it for your consideration and move on.

Those are my thoughts and I look forward to yours in reply. Please tag me when you have completed any edits.

Zak Dymo - In regards to the first point, I'd like to respectfully disagree.

The way that I see it - the dedicated taskforce, be it stationary or transient, would technically fall under the external defenses as detailed by the template. Their intent is to defend the station, and having them listed in a single submission makes it easier to set the scene should anyone decide to establish a thread on the Drive Yards. If I were to make two separate Fleet Submissions for either taskforce, it'd be a redundant as all the information that someone would require is listed in a single submission, ideally ensuring that it won't be ignored because a single location has X amount of ancillary submissions. If this is going to be a point of contention, perhaps it might be a good idea to consider removing the vagueness from the template. Just so that everyone's on the same page going forward, lol.

As to the second part - there wasn't much detail from the Ringo Vinda station to go off of, so when detailing the various methods of security it seems I incidentally went the same route as Kuat Drive Yards. To account for the similarities, I've slapped a direct link to the relevant section of the Wookieepedia article to hopefully ensure all the bases are covered. As to the external space stations and sections of the shipyards themselves? They're entirely generic, and shouldn't require their own Factory submissions. If that does somehow cause issue down the road - then I suppose I've got a lot of redundant work ahead of me.

Thank you for that clarification. Your objection is noted, but my original judgment stands.

1. Security.
In referring to "internal and external defenses" on the template, the recurring presence of defense ships is a notable feature, but the precise number of ships and their composition do not belong on the shipyard template, because that's not a shipyard or part of the shipyard. That details a fleet submission and those numbers/composition should be evaluated based on the applicable rules for Fleet Lore, not Shipyard Locations. Indeed, as written, the bulk of your shipyard submission is in detailing the numbers, composition, and support elements specific to the listed defense ships. As a result, this seems to be a submission that's more about the ships than it is about the shipyard as a location.

As a suggestion of what could go in the Security field: "To protect its investment, REC has stationed protective naval assets, such as X model corvettes or X model frigates." If you make a fleet submission, it could be noted that X fleet is frequently in the area or homeported at the shipyards.

In the alternative, where you'd like to keep the Security section detailed as is, you will need to submit a Second Chance to have a different judge assigned.

Please let me know how you'd prefer to proceed.

Zak Dymo - I again, disagree that the hard numbers of the submission should be removed. As there is no lawful backing to your judgement, according to both the template and to the previously linked Codex Location Rules - which in turn lead to the Codex Rules proper - I am tempted to request a Second Chance - especially since this submission has fallen into the "Do or Die" scenario over an alleged personal preference and an unwritten rule.

However, as I'm not interested in dealing with the bureaucracy, and for the sake of getting this submission approved, I have changed the supposed bulk of my submission to detail what's commonly sighted in and around the Orbital Station, as well as a small informative blurb regarding each section.

EDIT: I've also included a wookieepedia link to the generic space station article to account for the generic space station's operating in addition to the orbital ring.

If you believe this statement, this is precisely what Second Chance exists for. You are the one making the choice to not avail yourself of that option.

However, as I'm not interested in dealing with the bureaucracy...

Factory and Codex are completely optional, so apparently you are interested or else you would not have submitted this. Unlike the previous Codex rules, we no longer operate on the basis of random automatic approvals, so everything submitted to Codex is subject to review. As stated in the Codex Rules 4.0, "Codex Submissions in the Species, Location, NPCs, and Lore forums will be gradually reviewed as they are posted unless otherwise specified."

In any case, I appreciate the edits that you have made and the result is a fantastic location submission with a wealth of detail. Noting, again, the earlier warning about if this submission should be abused, I am happy to approve it.
