• General behavior: Usually avoiding conflict with creatures of the Veran forests and jungles, Pythros build nests up int the canopies where they sleep through the night. Through the day, they use their docile and adorable appearance to lure in other creatures that they then surround in a cloud of deadly hemotoxin which is stored in their neck. Upon being gassed by the cloud which can be breathed up to a meter out from the Pythros, the victim usually dies within three minutes as its blood things and begins to leak from its various orifices. During the process, the Pythros will follow its prey, now deflated and adorable again. When the prey is dead, it flies down to feast on its new meal.
Pythros often live in small colonies never extending past, and rarely reaching twenty in number.
  • Upon being born, Pythros live with their mother for about one month, spending several weeks of this time curled up in the safety of their mother’s tail. While capable of exhaling toxins from birth, they can’t create fully dangerous clouds until the end of their nurturing period. Use of their hemotoxin before this age often leads to small albeit deadly puffs of green smoke.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Native to Veradune, the Pythros are rarely messed with due to their toxic nature. Because of their unassuming nature and way of killing creatures far bigger than themselves, these miniscule menaces have become an apex predator in the jungles and forests of Veradune and are rightly feared by the Zorren population, and the bandits as well when they had taken over the planet. Occasionally, there have been stories of Zorrens finding young Pythros and raising them to be more than capable guard animals, though this is considered playing with fire and extremely dangerous. There have been a few attempts to capture and domesticate Pythros, and while it has proven possible to capture a small sample and remove their toxin pouches, the dangers of the species, and of Veradune as a whole, has prevented any success in attempts to create a long term domesticated population.
