The Knights Obsidian had been devastate. Their world had been shattered in ways they had never experienced before. A true test was upon them all in the wake of the events which had transpired on Ryloth. Many had wondered if the Knights would rebuild, or how they would now supplement their forces. The Obsidian Council had many discussions on the best course of action in regards to the best path forward. To that end Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura was given sole charge of the imbued item which had proven the cause of their annihilation.
THE EYE.
None of the leadership knew exactly what it had done, not truly. All that was none was the device seemed to open a gateway into a realm that was beyond the one in which they lived. Some referred to such a place as the Netherworld, others called the dimension by another name. What had made this device unique was its ability to open rifts on many Confederate worlds. The attack had been on decisive demonstration of power which had crippled the Knights Obsidian on every world they called home simultaneously. There had been no warning, and there had been nothing any of them could have done to change the outcome.
Something was happening.
A STORM WAS COMING.
The aftermath of the attack had led to another decisive blow against the Knights. Lord Commander Kyyrk Kyyrk resigned his position, naming Gerwald Lechner as the new leader of the Knights Obsidian. In an effort to atone for the lives lost on his watch, the Miraluka has since set out to discover the origins of the artifact and how to stop the events which had been set in motion.
It was needed.
Gerwald's task in the matter was simple. Investigate the reports which were coming from the Thorn Academy. They were concerning after the events on Ryloth, and all Gerwald could think was his tenure as the Lord Commander was going to be the shortest in the history of the Knights Obsidian. They did not need that now. What the Knights needed was stability. It was Gerwald's task to give it to them and lead by example. That was why was personally overseeing this mission, along with the help of the Deputy Commander Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura , the Nightmother herself. Those accompanying them would be divided. Not one to be creative with names, Gerwald had simply decided to give the teams a simple designation, Team Wolf and Team Witch.
"I do not know the condition of the Academy," he began to address the team on the dropship. "What I do know is that we have two main issues to contend with. Demons, or whatever you want to call them, are pouring out of the Netherworld and we must stop them. Lavria Xedrim, Teyla Sal-Soren Teyla Sal-Soren , Luca Ioneşti, and Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi , the four of you will be with me. Our task is to clear a path and contain the creatures at all cost. Oleander Webb Oleander Webb , Evelyn Lonan and Lunara Azure Lunara Azure , you will accompany the Nightmother. The three of you will figure out how to close the rift which is at the heart of the Academy."
Gerwald looked to the small team.
"Are we clear?"
He waited for a response, then as any good leader should, the Lupine was the first to leap from the dropship into the fray below.

Teyla blinked, light-brown eyes refocusing, having been lost in thought the last thirty minutes before they came out of hyperspace. Pulled from out of her mental haze, her chin turned slightly and she laid a fixed gaze on the new Lord Commander whose hulking visage swam into view, having called for some of the few remaining Knights attention.

Not too long ago, she’d been on her way home to Naboo - to her family and children - on a much needed leave of absence when the Cataclysm happened. The fallout from it, when the CIS realized that over half of their Knights were effectively killed, pulled her immediately back in. Hundreds gone, with barely more than a handful left. The senior few. This was how she found herself once more in the fray, steeling herself for the inevitable physical engagement soon to come.

It was her duty.

Not just to the CIS, but to the two Force Sensitive children depending on her, relying on her for their safety. While she couldn’t fix the entire Galaxy, which was broken long before she was even thought of, she could take action and try to make things better than they were. For that was the hope of every parent, that their children have a future to look forward to, that they might grow up with love and security, so as to one day flourish.

But there were doubts about her capabilities, and worries about her state of mind.

All was not well between Master and Apprentice. Bouncing from one tragedy, to the next, and still struggling to reconcile with the actions and decisions she’d made on Nar Shaddaa, Luca was more than right to be worried about her being ready for the task ahead of them, but wrong if he thought that he could dissuade her from it. He'd have more luck trying to persuade the dawn not to come, before ever hoping to win out against her particular brand of stubbornness that frustrated all who knew her. Once the woman's mind was made up, there would be no altering from its course. Such was the nature that had been fostered into her since childhood. Teyla would always soldier on, fully dedicated to whatever she committed herself to.

"I do not know the condition of the Academy, what I do know is that we have two main issues to contend with. Demons, or whatever you want to call them, are pouring out of the Netherworld and we must stop them. Lavria Xedrim , Teyla Ee'everwest , Luca Ioneşti , and Kurenai Yumi , the four of you will be with me. Our task is to clear a path and contain the creatures at all cost. Oleander Webb , Evelyn Lonan and Lunara Azure , you will accompany the Nightmother. The three of you will figure out how to close the rift which is at the heart of the Academy. Are we clear?"

Teyla straightened her spine at Gerwalds address. “Yessir.” she responded, the lilt of her voice ringing clear and crisp.

Letting her hand fall to rest on the hilt of her lightsaber blade, she stepped up behind the Lord Commander and brought her boots to the ledge, surveying the ground below, calculating the wait time before she jumped.

The feeling of adrenaline started to pump furiously through her veins as her mind began to whirl with terrible imaginations of what could be lying in wait, at the many ‘what ifs’ that could happen, causing Teyla to pause momentarily and release a nervous breath before looking over towards Luca. The clever slant of her lips tugged slightly up at the corners.

“See you on the flip?”

Without further delay, the Hapan beauty set off.

Oleander knew a thing or two of oblivion.

He'd experienced it, first hand, ripped from familiarity and into a cold embrace of carbonite. Still, even he who had only shortly before going under had begun to understand the graces of companionship could acknowledge that there was a stark difference between personal loss and the sundering of an organization. While he hadn't grown so far as a person to say he felt deeply for what knights were left by the aftermath of Ryloth, the hints of sympathy etched themselves in the cracks of a chipping image of callousness.

Oleander knew a thing or two of oblivion.

The mission had sounded preposterous at first hearing, still did, the more he thought of it. A fool's errand with friends didn't quite do the job description justice, as catchy as it sounded. Cynicism aside, the Anzat found the overall sense of duty within this crew he'd joined to be almost infectious. Infectious enough that whatever doubts he had regarding the chances of success became a moot point. Uncertainty was traded for guarded curiosity.

It wasn't something one was meant to come back from.

Roused from his rumination by the Lord Commander's address, Ander rose from his thoughts and to his feet with a vacant sigh. A hand rose to his neck, aiming to massage any tensions from it before they became otherwise preoccupied. Deep in thought and half asleep were about the same to the young-ish knight, often leaving his physical form just a tad slow to rouse from either.

"Are we clear?"

"Yeah, crystal." His hand shifted from his neck to face, brushing away the last traces of sleep-er, meditation, from his eyes before focussing. Said gaze shifted to each of his assigned team, taking mental notes before dropoff ensued lest they get separated by touch-down. "No time like the present I s'pose," he mused, primarily to himself, once the dropping began. Another moment passed with another stretch, rolling his shoulders back as one final prep before committing to the drop.

"It's showtime."

It had been a while since she had been fully loaded out and ready to a fight such as this, small yet elite group assaulting a compound with such odds stacked against them. It brought back waves of memories from past long gone operations, a small amount of excitement welling up inside Kurenai at the protect of the coming fight. Though such throughs were quickly suppressed as the severity of the mission came back into mind.

This wasn't her old mercenary outfit or prior military units, this wasn't some operation against some mortal conventual base. This was their own academy, a part of the CIS she had been entrusted to keep watch over, a place that should be a safe haven not a source of calamity. Kurenai had faced all sorts of Sith spawn and beasts in the past, but today would be unlike anything else, if they were not able to stop this tide from the netherworld the who knew what would happen to the CIS at large.

Kurenai's hands reached around her body, checking the varying equipment and armor and vest while the briefing was given, herself along as the information was divulged.
"Copy, I'll take point unless someone else wants to". She was better built for it should the demon prove to be more then an usance, herself moving forwards as the drop zone continued to
approached, hands slipping to grasp the hilt of her saber and gun.

"I just hope they prepared a nice welcome party for us".

-----------------------

How long had it been since she had been called to action? It felt like ages, and perhaps in some cases it had been. Injuries were funny that way, especially the sort that took you off the field for any given length of time. It wasn't something that ever came up in conversation, and least not on her end, because truthfully it just wasn't worth discussing. And despite what had happened before, Evie was here now, and that was really all that mattered. She had been up and able to hustle again, and that was that.

Those facts did not dismiss the lurch in her gut everytime she thought about what was going on and where this collection of people was headed however. Ready to pound the pavement again or not, there were still certain things that made Evelyn uneasy - and all manner of Spiritual related things was high on that list. Now, the redhead was no coward and had every intention of seeing this mission through. It was just the thought of dealing with something of this nature, unpredictable and unstable in so many different ways...it gave her the heebie jeebies.

That didn't stop her from looking up when she and the others were addressed, and she stood easily from where she had been seated. "As glass," she let out in retort to the stated inquiry, then easily enough made her way to the edge once others had dropped from the ship and there was room for her to do so. Evie sighed slowly through her nose and half turned so that she could give anyone still remaining a once over. "I should've had a drink first..." she groused lightly, her tone lilting as it always did. Then she turned to look down once more before quite simply stepping off of the edge and allowing gravity to grab hold of her frame and drag her down.

One could argue that as a spiritual advisor, the Nightmother should have convinced Gerwald to reconsider. Yet, Vytal could not bring herself to wade into the dark waters of the Lord Commander's dearth of creativity. There were many other matters demanding attention other than his decision to use 'Team Wolf' and 'Team Witch' as monikers in their most recent foray.

And again, her green eyes silently slid to the side to regard the man as he brushed away the spiritual nature of the hostiles they would soon meet. They were not demons, but now was not the time to get into a philosophical discussion regarding the nature of the Nether. It would be akin to describing the nuance of 'Dark' Jedi or Dark Siders that did not follow the Sith teachings before wading into battle with such people. Confusion and distraction could get people killed. Nevertheless, oversimplification had lasting consequences after the battle ended.

After all, in the end she wholeheartedly agreed with their mission and what would be needed to see it done. There was no need to be concerned about 'killing' the spirits that had entered into the world of the living. No concern about 'destroying' them rather than sending them back. They had made their decision to violate the Balance between worlds; after they had already refused to abide the natural cycle of life and death. This group would only be carrying out what was so long overdue.

Little time remain for any discussion with their Commander making a hasty exit from the dropship. Time waited for no woman. A sentiment everyone seemed to share as they soon followed his lead. With half gone, including most of her own, the red armored woman strode toward the exit.

"These spirits have already forgotten," the Witch intoned, "I will remind them again." She followed them out into the fray to set to the task of restoring Balance to the galaxy. It did not matter how many reminders it would take; the Nightmother would instruct the Dead countless times until they learned the lesson well.

She was being dragged all across Confederate space.

She was not his squire, but Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner had been hauling her butt all over the darn galaxy all the same.

This mission was no different. This one did sound interesting, however. Fun, even. When their new Lord Commander gave his speech and asked them if they understood, she turned her yellow orbs on him.
"Yeah. Though, I have no idea what you all are worried about." she sneered. The others that were mustered were all somewhat worried about the unknown and the rumours of danger ahead. Lavria, on the other hand, reveled in it.

So she was probably the only one that jumped from the dropship and into the Dark, swirling chaos with a sinister smile on her face.

Chaos had become a second nature to her.

Second only to the Darkness whose footing had finally solidified within her.

On the ground, she readied herself. She looked around at the others.
"Can we get this show on the road already?" she asked, waiting for her team to gather and get going.

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!!!!!
The sound could be heard from all sides as boots began to hit the ground. Beasts of all kinds poured out from all sides of the landing party. It was though they were surrounded the second they landed. The swarm seemed to be unrelenting as the creatures of the nether overtook the ground in a rush. There were those that seemed to slither, still others burrowed beneath the surface to move faster. They were lesser spirits, familiar beasts that could be killed with a simple attack.

It was the screech that could be heard behind the swarm which would freeze many in their tracks.

FEAR.

It was a true and valid emotion, and the creatures which took the flank of the stampeded fed off of them.

Nemorakin.pNG

They were ugly creatures, hungry, and looking for something to devour. The other beasts seemed to tremble at the very presence of the others. five of them, bringing up the rear seemed like a manageable number, but still the creatures cowered.

The path to main gate of Thorn Academy was blocked. To gain entrance the party would have to hack their way through the beasts, only to contend with the spiders upon their arrival.

This wasn’t the academy of her youth, but staring at the grounds, at the building brought back a flood of memories. Of classes and sitting in the shade, or friends made and rivalries fought under watchful knowing eyes. For a time it had been the entirety of her world, a place of safety and security where she could live out dramas that she felt should change the world, though that really meant very little. Great loves and losses, teenage crushes and adventures.

It had been the best of times, it had been a time that she could relax and be herself. No stress of expectations, no worry about letting anyone down. A time so different from now, a time that she could look back on and smile.

It was a time she had hoped that the students who had lived here would be able to experience. It was an experience she was afraid they hadn’t managed to experience. It was a failure on all their parts that it had come to this.

The woman felt the wind snapping around her as the reached out to the force, wrapping strands of it around herself, feeling it pulling at her hair. It took only a moment for the force to bring her down to the ground, barely a hair out of place as she took a step forward.

“I don’t think the spirits are the first things we need to worry about putting back into place.”

The dry comment slipped from her lips as she raised a hand, fingers snapping as the air around her seemed to shimmer, the force gathering the water in the air around her as she leeched the heat from the air. Icicles caught the light, the ice glinting as she took a step forward, her hand falling as the icicles shattered into shards, flashing through the air at the spiders, lashing them with the cold as she turn to the newly minted Lord Commander.

“You always bring us to the nicest places.”

Gerwald was the first to land as he had been the first to jump. His boots had barely hit the ground before the others started to gather around him. Most would simply give an indication that they understood the orders. Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura was her typical self, making a declaration about what she intended to do with the spirits.
"Mystics..." Gerwald muttered under his breath. He still did not know what to make of their kind of force use.
His head canted toward the sound of another voice. This one was also familiar to him. Lunara Azure Lunara Azure . She was a true friend if Gerwald could say there was one. They had bonded over the shared experience of loss. Both had lost someone they cared about. While Gerwald still wore the ring reminding him his love was still alive to some degree, in a rather morbid and odd way, it was reminder that Lunara had not been so fortunate.
Gerwald watched as the woman used ice to dispatch the spiders, a smirk tugged on his face. There would be more, certainly. Until they closed the rift there would be plenty of nasty things to kill.
"Only the best for you, darling," he teased in return before setting a serious look on his face once more.
The orders had been clear. He would help clear a path to the academy along with Teyla Sal-Soren Teyla Sal-Soren , Luca Ioneşti, Lavria Xedrim, and Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi . The last of which desired to take point. Gerwald nodded and motioned for her lead on.
His black blade was alive. The cracked and broken pearl inside it giving off an unstable flow which made the plasma spark and crackle. He cut down each and every thing which got in his way. Coming up along side the others he hacked away like a brute soldier. Despite being Lord Commander, this was what Gerwald knew best. He led by example. There was no task above him. If the others were there to kill, he would be as well. Gerwald did not need the glory of being the conquering hero. No, someone else would take that role today.
" Oleander Webb Oleander Webb , ensure the Nightmother makes it inside to the rift. Protect her at all costs until she can find a way to close it. These things are beyond me, or any of us. That goes to you Evelyn Lonan."
Gerwald looked to Lunara once more.
"Make sure these Knights come home in one piece and alive. My conscience cannot bear more loss, not today."
She would have heard of Naalol, and the losses suffered there. Lunara would know Gerwald blamed himself. He had moved on to lead, but the weight of his decisions stayed with him. He knew what it meant to be Lord Commander, it meant sending Kinghts Obsidian to their death, even the ones he considered friends.
"And yourself too... be safe."
Gerwald shouted to his team.
"NOT ONE OF THEM LEFT ALIVE!"

Kurenai could only cock an eyebrow at the Zabrak as they leapt of the ship having spouting some strange nonsense. She didn't doubt the women's skill, the fact they were here at all was proof of that, but only an idiot charged blinding into a battle without first observing the situation. A fact that became quite clear as not a moment later the LZ was swarmed with dark creatures of varying types.

"Well, at least she makes a good distraction". Grasping her saber Kurenai leaped off into the oncoming wave of beasts, landing with a powerful force blast directed in front of her, easily sending the small of the beast into the air. "You lot seem to be quite the ravenous things, though I wonder how you will feel being eater yourself"!. Thrusting her hand out once more the saber left from Kurenai's hand, carving it's way through the black bodies of the nearby monsters. Said attacking aiming fro their limbs or other motor function.

An incapacitated enemy was as good as a dead one, more so with creatures such as these hat didn't seem to have much intelligence or ranged weapons. "Well, what are you waiting for? These things won't kill themselves"! That and they had a mission to complete, staying in the same spot and killing waves of enemies while fun wasn't their job today.

Oleander hit the ground with a puff of smoke emitting from his boots as they collided with the surface. In that same moment, his lightsaber flung to his hand, its goldenrod blade slicing through bugs with a calculated flick of the wrist. His style was simplistic, far from refined, though in his defense his specialties didn't lie in mass combat. Slice, slash, push, pull, he cut through the creatures with simplistic precision, refraining from anything fancy just yet. No, fancy wouldn't do. Not so early in the mission.

An annoyed hiss escaped his throat as icicles conjured by Lunara Azure Lunara Azure struck the spiders around him, with Oleander ducking to avoid taking one himself. Kill the creatures, sure, no problem, he could dodge projectiles just fine. But by the Force, why did it have to be cold? He almost asked just that, had half breath of air ready to project over the carnage, when Gerwald Lechner Gerwald Lechner 's further orders came.

Now, Oleander had done a fair number of jobs in his decades. Enough to cover a lifetime for the shorter-lived species. But protection? That was a new one. And in the heat of the moment, he nearly said as such. But then one of the smaller beasties who'd gotten quite bold in his moment of confusion opted to bite into his thigh. Once again reminded of the usefulness of his armor, the Anzat all but snarled as his free hand grasped the creature, crushing its' head with animalistic force before tossing it into the eyes of another creature. He tossed a glance toward Evelyn Lonan and Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura , head gesturing in the direction of their projected path. "Let's get going," he called out, shaking some of the excess arachnid gunk off his hand, gaze sliding to Lunara as he turned.

"And if you ice me again," he started, half a promise, mostly a threat, "I will throw one of these at you."

"Dear, spirits are always the first thing you need to worry about," the Nightmother replied calmly if with a motherly tone to Lunara Azure Lunara Azure . "Whether it be the spirits of your adversary, those of the world, those that have passed beyond, or of yourself. They are, as the Lord Commander would prefer, simply part of existence -- The Force."

Vytal's green eyes shifted slightly to regard Oleander Webb Oleander Webb as Gerwald seemed inclined to assign someone to guard her en route to the rift. Beyond them? While she would certainly enjoy laying claim to being the foremost magick user in the galaxy, the Nightmother was not so conceited. It was the purpose of the Solanaceae to share knowledge. To build awareness of one's self and the world around them. Or, put simply, to elevate other Witches -- or Force users -- to be so powerful.

Though Vytal could not say many seemed inclined to pursue the craft as they were to pursue other ventures. As a Nightsister such ambitions had not drawn her. Perhaps that was a sort of... social weakness. Though she knew not how to altar that in a way that would not change who she was. A problem for another time. When monsters did not seek to devour them whole.

"I suppose I am to conserve my strength?" A silent sigh slipped through her lips as the man then charged Lunara with commanding the Knights. While it was not unpleasant to have another take that duty, the Witch found herself surrounded by those of action with her left merely to forge ahead. Well, there were times, perhaps, when that was all someone could do. To never stop moving and allow others to act; they would benefit by their progress ahead never stalling.

A lowered brow followed the man's charge to forge ahead, however. Vytal was the least likely of Nightsisters to lash out at a male -- having been around them some time now and grown accustomed to the ways of offworlders. Nevertheless, the Witch was the Deputy Lord Commander and did not require prompting.

As she began to move forward, Vytal said as she passed, "I will not tolerate in-fighting when darkness seeks to devour us all." It mattered not which of them felt rebuked by the sentiment. The Nightmother would deal with any that threatened the group through selfish action.

"We move," she commanded for all to hear. "To the Tower." Normally an area with heavily restricted access officially due to the presence of the Dark Side Nexus present there. The truth hardly mattered. Being a place of power the rift would find strength there at the heart of campus. Where else would they go back into the maw of hell itself? "Be on your guard. The spiritual power will grow as we near the Rift."

With the command given, she took to moving at a swift gait. The green of her eyes glowed as Vytal set her gaze on the path ahead. Time to carve their way to ruin, and set the world at ease once more.

The closer they came to the ground, the darker and more warped the aura became, ultimately blanketing their group in an atmosphere of what felt like pure malevolence. With the Force guiding her descent, Teyla managed to land with a graceful flourish, her muscles and mind ready for the engagement. She waited back a moment to asses the situation before running into the fray, watching as one of the other Knights made quick work of the spiders racing towards them with a seemingly quick flick of the wrist.

It gave them a reprieve, albeit a small one, while the second team moved on ahead.

"Right beside you Commander!"

Before she could try to develop some kind of solid plan, the second wave of Monsters came barreling towards them. Thinking quickly, Teyla fixed her stance to better ground herself and took in a deep breath, focusing the Force to her vocal cords. While she still had much to learn of the living Force itself, there were some abilities and techniques that the former handmaiden had picked up rather quickly and effortlessly because of her affinity to the energy that bound and connected them all. Despite her hatred of Ferian Adair for what he'd done to her and many others, she couldn't deny that she didn't benefit from all of the Sith Lords experiments, coupled with the training she'd received from Luca Ioneşti.

While the enemies came closer, Teyla built up energy in her throat until the very last moment when she released not just a swell of energy, but a deep and trembling scream. The Force enhanced the soundwaves of a bellow, sent the spiders spiraling backwards, leaving the onyx arachnids in a moment of stunned confusion.

Wasting no time, she reached for the hilt of her saber and ignited the blade, its golden light thrumming to life with a classic 'snap-hiss' in her hand as she rushed forward to cut down as many of the fiends as she could manage, before they got their bearings back.
