The gunship came out of lightspeed in front of the lush world. At the pilot's seat Minerva viewed the planet before her own eyes. "It's so…green. I have never seen so much green before." A young girl remarked in the co-pilot seat.

Upon hearing that voice Minerva shifted her gaze to the little one. Next to her was a tan skinned and brown haired Zabark girl who wore a blue tunic with matching pants and brown sandals. Noting the child's fascinated expression toward New Cov the Mandalorian fondly smiled being reminded of her younger self. The child turned to her and Minerva was still smiling as she said.

"We will be landing there shortly. Now Laqoa, go tell your friends that we're here."

Laqoa beamed at the request, nodding eagerly.

"Sure thing you can count on me Minerva."

The horn headed girl sprang from her seat and rushed out of the cockpit, nearly tripping in the process. Minerva watched Laqoa before turning back to her board. Her grin faltered.

Almost a week ago she and fellow warriors had ambushed a slaver ship crewed by Zygerrians near Enclave space. The resulting boarding action was brief but brutal and they discovered almost a hundred beings crammed together in filth and misery. In the aftermath they discovered five orphaned youths who were force sensitive.

After that we reached out to the Jedi and we made an arrangement to drop off these kids to them. Never thought they had a presence on this world until they gave the coordinates. Then again it's a big galaxy.

Sighing she heard running steps coming up to the cockpit.

"Wow, we 're really here!" Exclaimed a human kid with olive skin. He wore red clothes all over with tan shoes.

"Told ya Nader!" Laqoa remarked proudly before taking her seat. In the seat opposite Nader did the same. Opposite of him was a Noghri boy in a brown tunic and Rodian girl in a purplish cloak who shared a seat, holding each other's hand.

Those two had been inseparable since we found them. From what Nader told me that the slavers were especially cruel to Shee and J'khor stood up for her and they turned their wrath on him instead.

Finally Minerva's eyes came to a Sullustan girl with brown braided hair wearing a yellowish makeshift outfit that resembled a pilot's.

At the sight Minerva gestured to the girl to sit beside her. "Come on Chi help me fly us down.”

Somewhat nervous, Chi complied with fidgeting hands before seating upon Minerva's right knee. Allowing the Sullustan child to hold the controls with her Minerva then pressed the ship forward. Minutes later they reached the surface around morning time. Most of the kids let gasps and talked amongst themselves.

While they did their Mandalorian protector pressed a button, signaling through code to the Jedi that they arrived and now she is awaiting updated coordinates in order to land.

Whenever Valery had some time away from the front, she found herself coming back to New Cov. The temple there wasn't as massive as the one on Coruscant, and it certainly didn't offer the same facilities, but its peaceful place within the jungles made it ideal for less hectic trips. She could meditate, train and focus purely on herself.

But from time to time, she used the Temple for actual Jedi business too.

Today, she was awaiting the arrival of a Mandalorian from the Enclave, who had played an important part in the rescue of several Force-sensitive children. For some time now, Valery had been working hard to maintain a good alliance with the Mandalorians, so for them to reach out and help this way felt like a good sign. A step in the right direction that would allow the bonds between the two groups to grow.

Soon enough, the request to land came in, and the shuttle would be tasked to land at the landing pad, which stood in a clearing on the jungle hill. Valery waited outside, her long hair waving in the wind, and watched as it came down. Only when the ramp lowered and the first signs of people coming outside appeared, she stepped forward and began to speak.

"Welcome to New Cov - I hope the journey hasn't been too bad."

Once they landed Minerva led the kids out of the cockpit, passing through the conference room. The holoshow My Wookiee Neighbor was still playing as the titular character rocked on a stage playing a guitar as hundreds cheered. That is actually a good show I admit. Minerva silently admitted before speaking to the orphans.

"Alright kids go get your things back in the quarters."

Most of them listened, rushing off. Except for Chi who stayed right next to the Mandalorian, looking up with her large black eyes.

"Do…they have ships?"

Going down to one knee so that they're at eye level Minerva answered.

"Of course the Jedi have ships. You will have plenty of opportunities to fix things and mess with tech."

Nodding Chi looked down at the floor before she finally asked.

"Will I ever see you again?"

At the question Minerva suppressed a sigh. Over the course of their liberation to this journey she got rather attached to them. Deciding to be honest Minerva looked Chi in the eye and said.

"I don't know Chi but you must stay strong. For your sake and that of your friends' as well. Remember all of you together chose to join the Jedi and my people honored your decision. But know that I never forget any of you on my word of honor."

Reminded Chi nodded before hugging Minerva. Pausing for a moment the warrior fought back tears as she returned the embrace like sisters. Once they let go Minerva gestured for Chi to go on and get her things. The Sullustan ran off and the Mandalorian finally sighed, putting on her helmet.

A minute later everyone came with their backpacks and few belongings they now owned. Minerva led them through the ship until the ramp as it opened. Nader bold as ever led up in front as he and the rest adjusted to the sun, squinting their eyes. Minerva however, immediately looked to the figure awaiting them with a greeting.

She paused, recognizing the other lady. It's one of the Jedi from the Ilum temple! Who would've thought.

Clearing her throat Minerva answered as they got off the ship and stood .

"We had a safe and fun time on the way here. Didn't we kids?"

All of them nodded before they looked back at Varely. They clearly have never seen an actual Jedi before. Minerva broke the brief silence, as she gestured to each child.

"This is Chi, Nader, Laqoa, Shee and J'khor."

Laqoa the Zabark girl immediately pointed to the Mandalorian.

"That's Minerva Fhirdiad, she and the other Mandos saved us! They were so amazing flying around and shooting. Those filthy monsters didn't stand a chance."

There was a brief look of pleasant surprise when Minerva stepped off the ship — Valery recognized her as the woman she had been wanting to talk to on Ilum, but never got the chance to because another Jedi needed her. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but another part of her felt the Force had brought them together for a reason.

Or several reasons — there wasn't just one Force-sensitive child.

"I'm glad to hear that your trip was fun," Valery said with a warm smile, while she listened to introductions and looked at the kids. Valery had always been very motherly and caring towards children, so she looked at them with a warm and inviting smile. Perhaps a strange appearance for a warrior of her status and appearance.

"She did a very good job, and her actions will never be forgotten," Valery continued as her head dipped in gratitude towards Minerva.

"I'm Jedi Master Valery Noble, one of the NJO's members of the Council. I'm here to welcome you all to one of our Temples, and help you along in your paths to becoming Jedi." She wasn't sure how much they were told already or if they had expressed an actual desire to be here, but that was what this meeting would be all about.

Saying nothing Minerva instead glanced over to the kids. Laqoa, and Nader were most open about their excitement as they shared smiles with one another. As for Shee the Rodian girl she looked amazed before closing her eyes with a saddened expression. The Mandalorian's heart torn at the sight but outwardly she remained stoic. Even though Shee was freed she carried scars upon her soul, all of them did in fact.

Subsequently J'khor placed a comforting hand on Shee and once the latter looked up to him the Noghri said in broken Basic.

"W-we w..will be okay. We will, will…be J-j-jedi."

Not the most eloquent speech in the galactic history but it didn't matter Shee was touched by her friend's bravery and concern for her. It took some effort but the little Rodian's expression became more hopeful. As for Chi, despite her own nervousness looked out to the temple nearby with growing curiosity.

No doubt she's wondering about what kind of tech is inside there.

Clearing her throat to get their collective attention Minerva then took off her helmet to let them see her face one last time. Placing the helm at the hip the warrior addressed the children with a serious expression

"Do you stand by the decision you all made together? If anyone is having second thoughts please speak up for decisions like this not to be made lightly."

Her own adopted father had said something similar when she had come of age before making the choice to continue on the path as a Mandalorian. It felt so surreal now giving these young ones that kind of choice as well. All of them looked at each other silently, then returned their attention to Minerva, nodding.

"Yes!"

"It's always been my dream."

"I want to grow stronger to help others like you did for us."

"Y-yes-yes it..is m-my…choice."

"There is nothing else for me but this."

Satisfied with their honest answers Minerva allowed herself to smile. While a part of her wished they walk on the Mandalorian path but nevertheless she was proud of how these kids made this decision for themselves. As former slaves it is truly an achievement to act on their freedom responsibily. Both proud and a bit sad Minerva knelt down and they all together formed a group hug. Once they all let go she got up and said.

"Farewell young ones, it has been an honor. Be strong, be brave and watch out for each other and your new family."

As soon as Minerva finished saying all of that the kids rushed over to Valery, some of them bombarding the master with questions.

"When do we get lightsabers?"

"How long have you been a master?"

"What's a mind trick?"

"What kind of ships do Jedi fly?"

A chuckle escaped Minerva watching that scene enfold. Once her eyes and Valery's met the former gave a knowing nod. They had much to discuss in private once the kids were settled in at the temple.

"Do you stand by the decision you all made together? If anyone is having second thoughts please speak up for decisions like this not to be made lightly."

Valery smiled softly at the question and dipped her head in agreement. The Jedi did not force people to become Jedi, so if they didn't want to remain here for training, she would arrange safe passage for them into Alliance space or even Enclave space if they chose that. But she always did hope they chose Jedi training, as it would help them develop control over their Force sensitivity. Without it, dangerous things could happen unintentionally.

So as the kids all looked at each other while they made up their minds, Valery watched curiously but was relieved to hear when they all agreed to become Jedi.

"Wonderful, you will all make fine Jedi," Valery said with a warm smile as she watched them move into a big group hug. When it broke, the kids all rushed over and gathered around Valery to bombard her with questions. It was met with some chuckling, "All very good questions, and you'll learn soon. From the journey to build your lightsaber to mastering your first Force ability, it's all going to be reality."

Her eyes shifted to Minerva again, the smile still on her lips, "While we bring them inside, would you be interested in joining me? We can get something to drink and talk about things a little more."

Objective: Talk with Master Noble

At the invitation for a drink Minerva was a bit surprised and it showed. Yes while they did have to talk regarding the children but Valery seemed like she was actually looking forward to it. Assuming she's not just being polite for the sake of the kids. Her eyes turned briefly to the temple. It was smaller than the one back on Ilum but certainly less snow and more tropical.

In a way she didn't feel as intimidated as the last time. "Of course." Minerva replied while interested about what kind of beverage the force wielders have. Letting the kids walk on ahead of them Minerva kept pace with Valery Noble on the right hand side. Admittedly she found this Jedi master to be rather curious in all honesty.

For generations my kin have battled her kind. Sometimes we allied in common cause but this is still strange for me.

Hearing the kids excitedly talk among themselves about the temple they're all approaching, Minerva remarked to Valery.

"Never thought you Jedi would have an enclave on this world. Usually I imagine Coruscant, Tython or Ossus from all the stories. Then again it is a prudent policy to have smaller sanctuaries scattered around the galaxy. Less notice that way."

"Of course."

Valery's smile showed that she was genuinely happy the offer was accepted, so she also wasted no time guiding the woman into the structure of stone. Smaller than most Temples, the New Cov Enclave's real strength was its peacefulness. Surrounded by nature and built from wood and stone, it felt more modest and quiet, perfect for a Jedi Temple.

While they walked, Valery kept an eye on the kids and made sure they headed in the right direction — towards the decently sized mess hall, where they would be able to get a good meal and something to drink as well. But once inside, she turned to Minerva and dipped her head.

"Originally, this was an Enclave run by a smaller Council. It had some differing views from the main Jedi Order, but it was still a small part of it. The jungles kept it from being easily detected, and offered Jedi a sanctuary on this side of the Galaxy," Valery explained, as good memories resurfaced.

Pausing in her steps, Valery gestured at the kitchen, "Anything specific I can get for you and the kids?"

Silently noting how her host watched over the kids, Minerva approved. A good sign that they will be in capable hands. Soon enough at the arrival to the mess hall she can hear the children's excitement renewed as they pointed at the tables, wall and especially the kitchen itself. When the Jedi replied to her earlier comment the armored warrior nodded.

Her younger self would've been baffled at the notion of the Jedi having differing views from each other. By now she knew it to be true as the same with all kinds of people, especially her vode. Not to mention the Jedi had utilized smaller more secluded locations sorta like how her people often did. Rather ironic given their bloodsoaked history she admitted to herself. At Valery's question Minerva shrugged her shoulders.

"I'll be fine with some caf." Gesturing back to the kids she added.

"Soup would be good for them. They're already tired of sandwiches anyway."

The Mandalorian allowed herself a chuckle. Inwardly she's glad they're allowing themselves to be kids even though the galaxy hasn't exactly been kind to them.

Leaning a little forward she whispered.

"I believe it best we discuss their situation further in private once they get lunch.”

"Coffee and soup, that's easy enough," Valery said before she moved to prepare the coffee, and gave another Jedi the signal to prepare soup for the kids. They'd then be gathered around a large table and cared for, allowing Valery to return to Minerva with a cup of coffee and some privacy.

As much as Valery wanted to get to know the kids better, it was important to first finish up business with the Mandalorian guest.

"The kids will get food, drinks, and whatever they need. If we take a little longer, I'm sure they'll get a tour around the Temple," Valery said after offering Minerva the cup. "So if there's more you'd like to discuss, we have the privacy." She smiled and paused for a moment, while she considered some things.

"We'll of course make sure your ship is replenished for the journey back but is there some kind of compensation that you'd like as well?"

Taking the cup of caf she took a sip before drinking it some more. Savoring it Minerva allowed herself to close both eyes. It was pretty good. Softly sighing, the warrior looked back to Master Noble. At the offer of compensation she waved it off with a free hand.

"I can't accept any reward for this. It was my sacred duty to bring the kids to your Order. All children deserve a home and a family, whatever it be."

She meant every word of that. Yes tragically many beings in the galaxy don't know the love of family, regardless of what form it be. In some cases it had been twisted or poisoned or rejected. Her adopted father didn't claim to be a perfect man; but Minerva never doubted how much Jorel loved her to his dying breath. Hopefully the Jedi will provide their own form of devotion to these kids as well.

After a pause she added awkwardly. "The only thing I need is fuel for the journey back if you Jedi folks can spare some."

Drinking more caf that warmed her throat she stopped, wiping some of it off her lips with a hand. Attention back to Valery she became more serious in expression.

"The kids are coping but I won't lie to you Jedi they went through hell even before being slaves from what I learned from them."

Her eyes turned downcast before going on.

"From one reason to another they ended up in an orphanage in Outlander Station. A bad place they all called it. When their supposed caretaker found out they were all force sensitive she sold them off to the Zygerrian slavers who stopped by the station. Weeks later we intercepted the transport near our territory and liberated all the captives."

Of course Minerva left out the part where she and her fellow warriors killed all the Zygerrians. Most in the firefight and the few remaining captured were thrown out an airlock once their former slaves were out of sight for treatment. As far as Minerva was concerned those slavers deserved that fate after seeing the wretched state of their captives. But she wasn't going to boast about it either.

"Chi the Sullustan girl is very shy and doesn't trust easily, especially adults. Although she really loves starships and wants to learn to tinker with them and fly."

Next Minerva pointed to the human boy who was playing with his fork like a little lightsaber.

"Nader there has a fighting spirit and wants to help others but he can be quite reckless. Big fan of Gliz music by the way. As for Laqoa next to him, the one rolling her eyes, she is very inquisitive, curious about everything and a bit bossy and stubborn heh. She has some leadership potential but there is also deep hurt and…anger beneath her confidence. Her own mother sold her off to that terrible orphanage to buy spice."

The very thought caused Minerva to gritted her teeth. Forcing herself to focus she gestured at the Noghri boy and Rodian girl who were staying close to each other. The latter who looked sadly down at her plate, trying not to cry while her friend placed a comforting arm over her shoulders. At the sight Minerva sighed in sorrow.

"Shee is fearful and often sad, blaming herself even for the smallest thing. Beneath that she is actually very kind and loves art. The slavers initially beat her horribly as an example to the others until J'khor stood up for her and they turned their full attention to him instead. That's what Laquoa told me."

Rubbing the side of her neck Minerva then concluded.

"J'khor is quite sincere and deeply cares about the whole group, especially Shee. Likes to sneak around by himself and scout out things and enjoys nature. His entire clan was massacred by Hutt enforcers from what I gather from him. He tries to keep all the pain bottled inside and is very embarrassed about his accent when speaking in Basic."
