Due to the rising popularity of the Corporation’s first reiteration of the Nebulon-B design, Republic Engineering was contracted to create a more specialized variant of the warship that would serve the Galactic Alliance and their Defence Force. To that end, the technical architects began with the various enhancements to the iconic Nebulon design, such as the replacement of the forward modular pods and the addition of an external structure that doubled as either a flight deck, or protective shield for the connection spar. These additions to the iconic design allowed for the inclusion of more specialized equipment, such as an advanced electronic warfare suite that would not only play havoc with enemy forces, but boost the potential of nearby allied forces as well.
The most notable and dastardly of these electronic warfare suites were the remote drones that could be deployed to the battlefield through various means. If the shields on an enemy starship were down, and the drones managed to make it past their point defence network, they would latch themselves onto the hull at critical junctures. From there, these drones would follow a pre-programmed set of commands as they utilized their security spikes to bypass the starship’s integrated security network. Should they be successful? Well, suffice to say, it wouldn’t be pleasant for the enemy combatants as their own starship turned against them. Their shields would never rekindle, and their weapons would likely turn against their allies - both inside the starship and without.
There was even the possibility of venting entire compartments, should the drone be programmed appropriately.
The second, but equally dastardly addition to the Nebulon L2’s electronic warfare suite, was a host of reprogrammable Hyperspace beacons. As these navigational buoys were used to traverse the stars, since they constantly updated the galactic star charts to ensure the safe transition from one dimension to another - one could only imagine what trouble additional beacons would cause for conventional NavComps. In truth, it was even possible that these cloned signals could lead starships - maybe even entire battlegroups - into a carefully prepared ambush. After those starships dropped out of hyperspace, believing themselves to have arrived at their destination, they would become easy prey. The options from there, would be countless, as the ships could be destroyed or subdued through a plethora of means.

Thus, with the Nebulon L2 in hand - the Galactic Alliance would find itself with one of the most advanced electronic warfare vessels across the known universe. At least, for the time being, as the balance of power is ever shifting. Adding in the fact that every corporation was fond of stealing conceptual ideas from one another? It wouldn’t be long until the L2 was outdated by something else, and countered by a slew of new systems capable of pulling off what was conventionally considered impossible.
