ELIAS MERROW
SENATOR · AT ATTIN

OBJECTIVE: The night market
LOCATION: Evenfall Estate, Velisia
OUTFIT: Black ankle boots, grey loose-fit jean and white Oxford shirt

Elias' eyes sparkled at the mention of shopping for his office.

"Wait. You're putting one of those in your office?"

Elias asked, immediately more interested.

"If it's for the office, I wouldn't buy that one." He gestured at the stands.

"... Or any of these, really."

"We are going to have a conversation about this later." Warning breathed between them. "Since we can't seem to communicate how we usually do. Blocking me out?

"Careful, Lady Ardemark. It almost sounds like you miss me."

The clean notes of lavender and sage grew sharp in the air around the dancing pair, heady and intoxicating. Sophelia danced with a grace and poise far greater than her alter ego on Nar Shaddaa. How many times had she been to dances such as this? Isar could not say the same. If any saw his tattooed features beneath the mask, he would be called out in an instant as someone who did not belong, a gutter punk from Nar Shaddaa. Not a noble lord.

And, of course, there was the matter of the bounty still on his head for being a Syndicate enforcer.

Those thoughts would have monopolized the space inside his head but for the glitterstim coursing through his blood stream and the hand on his shoulders and the eyes staring back into his. Sophelia's confidence made 'leading' their slow dance easy, Isar just did a few steps in time with the music, gave her a spin or two, and watched her do all the work of making it look natural.

He might even have been smiling under the mask.

After a moment of dancing in silence, listening to the music and the crackle of the bonfire and just enjoying Sophelia's company, Isar said, "You're doing great. Tel Idros will be the talk of Theed after this. The mysterious Viscount dancing with the proper fit - should I say jaw dropping? Hmm. It might go to your head."

YOUR_STORY

"Devi Jyn-tal." the Mikkian introduced herself back. "Greetings."
"Addision Porte," the brunette returned wth a friendly smile, then her brandy gaze went to the near-human boy with the two tone hair color. He seemingly was into mechanical things like her.
"I'm fine," he assured her. "He apologised. Just an accident." His gaze moved between the three of them before settling briefly on Addison. "I'm Rathir. You know him?"
"I do," Addy replied, then a lopsided grin started to form on her face as she teasingly elbowed her sibling. "I'm his better half. This is Aiden, my twin brother. It's nice to meet you both."

Addison took another sip of her cold brew while overhearing the conversation between Devi and and Rathir. Something about touching and if it would hurt... Can anyone say awkward?!

"Yes," she managed, answering his previous question several moments too late, her voice dropping back into a guarded cadence. "The rhythm remains structurally sound."

"That's very good to know." Elian voiced with a smile, her way of describing it was, unique and different. As the dance continued, things seemed to be going well, as well as they could be. Things could've been much worse. This must've been tough for her, and Elian wasn't sure what to do to alleviate that, other than one thing.
"I believe..." She swallowed again, the weight of the space suddenly pressing in on her. "...I may be needed elsewhere."

Elian cleared his throught, speaking in a genuine and light tone. "We can stop if you want?" Not with a look of conern, but more so with consdering for her, and what she may have been feeling. "Or, go for a walk?" Elian inquired, giving an avenue of options. Or if she needed to just go, that was perfectly fine as well. He noted a simliar comparison to how things were when he lost his arm. It was a feeling of, being consumed by quicksand, with everyone tiptoeing around him.

He just...he understood.

“Lord Abrantes,” Cal said as she approached from an angle he could see her. “What a pleasant surprise to see you here.”

The familar voice, hinting at his hears, as he turned to see her approaching him. "Milday, Calypso." Cassian's voice genuine and true. "Yes, I had thought at first it was not a good idea to come out tonight, but as you can tell, my stubborness seemed to have won out the debate, for good reason I suppose. It's good to see you."

“I confess I was distressed to hear of your abduction,” she said. “Are you well?”

She spoke of his abduction and Cassian simply nodded his head. "Thank you, milady. I'm as well, as someone can be......" Cassian reached for the, he couldn't even remember how many shots it was now. "It's been a trying time, I'll say that much." He said with a smile, clearly, the alcohol affecting him at this point, because no one could get a legit genuine smile out of him, at least outside his family anyway. He knocked back the shot, then gently placed the shot glass back on the bar. "What about you? What sort of adventures have you gotten yourself into?"

Aurelian let out a quiet scoff, giving a short nod as she pointed out the inevitable consequences. Usually, he accepted the fallout of his actions with reckless indifference. Wealth, power, and high birth had always shielded him from true accountability, a luxury he thoroughly enjoyed. Money and influence were useless against this failure.

"Yes, a conversation with the Chancellor," he murmured, his gaze drifting toward the floor. A hopeful spark flickered in his eyes. "Perhaps you should accompany me?" The suggestion trailed off softly, knowing her resignation still hung between them. Even cornered, he could not resist probing for an opening.

Listening closely as she laid out the threat of the artifact and the Jedi's demands, Aurelian shook his head without hesitation. "They can destroy it for all I care. I do not want to go near the cursed thing again."

Unspoken horrors pressed heavily against his mind as he swallowed the bitter taste of fear. "I felt it feeding on my anger and my terror. It dragged me into nightmares and consumed every dark thought to swell its own power. They took baseline readings before I came planetside, and the action reports were terrifying. They claim I spoke during the incident, yet I have zero recollection of it."

Tracing the fine violet silk over her gloved hand, Aurelian made his peace with the political storm heading his way. The Republic could scream all it wanted; his priorities had radically shifted.

"Let the Senate come for me. I will not deny my recklessness," he declared, his voice regaining a fraction of its former edge. "I intend to step back from Republic politics entirely and focus on us, on Naboo. Whatever else the artifact did, it made one thing brutally clear. The Sith are coming for the Mid Rim, and I want our home prepared."

"Yeah. I'm alright." He blinked, taking in the apologetic expression before glancing down at himself as though checking that assessment. "You didn't hurt me--"

"That's good." Aiden voiced easily enough, with a reassuring smile on his face. Aiden looked over to Devi whom had joined in the conversation with Rathir, and then Addison joined them.

"Greetings." Devi began, then gave a curt wave of her hand in hello.

"Devi, is a pleasure to meet you." Aiden said with a small smile, looking over to Addison whom had introduced them both.

"I do," Addy replied, then a lopsided grin started to form on her face as she teasingly elbowed her sibling. "I'm his better half. This is Aiden, my twin brother. It's nice to meet you both."

Aiden shrugged his shoulders with a laugh. "That's totally up for debate." He teased, giving Addison a small smirk, giving her a nudge with his arm. He looked to either of them, both Rathir and Devi. "How is both of your evenings going thus far?"

Cerys almost said yes. She almost took the offered escape, but then Elian suggested a walk. Her eyes snapped toward him. "A walk?" The idea sounded nice, and that was the problem.

Her heart lurched, tightening her chest as the ambient noise around them suddenly amplified. Every laugh and passing footstep pressed suffocatingly against her montrals, forcing her to swallow once, then twice, to clear the sudden constriction in her throat. Her fingers flexed within his grasp.

Comfort becomes familiarity. Familiarity becomes attachment.

Her late Master's voice returned with merciless clarity, prompting Cerys to take a hesitant half-step back. No. Elian had done nothing wrong. That realization cut through her mounting panic sharper than anything else.

"I don't think you're doing anything wrong," she said quickly, though her voice came out thinner than she intended. She swallowed again, forcing the next words past her lips. "I think I am."

There it was. The admission made her cheeks burn with a sudden heat. Caught between the urge to flee down the nearest path and the far more terrifying prospect of staying, Cerys looked back at him.

"Could we just..." She exhaled shakily, her mouth twitching into a small, embarrassed smile. "...stand here for a moment? I appear to have underestimated how difficult being normal is."

Darts shot out of the stone. The karking stone. Kitt swore in the dark, moving faster than was humanly possible. "Nice try, you chitting trap," she swore at the darkness. A lopsided smirk tugging at her lips as she took another step forward. Then a frown as she felt something sudden and sharp in her abdomen.

Huh. Wasn't fast enough after all.

Peering down, her fingers found the obtrusive hitch-hiker, snug in the skin of her exposed midriff. With a low growl, she yanked it out, stuffing it inside her purse. "Bantha balls," another mutter. As if insulting the darkness would make her feel better.

And it did.

A little. She slunk forward. This time letting the force spread more intentionally ahead of herself. She was almost there. But if there was one trap there might be others. Shining a light to her left, she finally saw what she was looking for. And felt it. The sith artifact nestled between a bunch of dusty old scrolls pulsed at her.

'You're an angry little thing' came out more like, "Y'rr ah ang'y wittle fing." Aww, chit. Numb tongue was starting to set-in. Fingers snatched the artifact and pocketed it. As she quickly rerteated back the way she'd come.

Alina had intended to arrive considerably earlier.

Unfortunately, intentions and reality had a habit of becoming acquainted only when it was convenient for them, and by the time she finally stepped into the Night Market, the evening was already well underway. Naboo had come alive beneath the gathering darkness, lanterns and illuminated stalls casting warm light across the stone while music, conversation, and laughter drifted between the rows of merchants. The scents alone were enough to make her regret having eaten anything beforehand.

She had dressed properly for the occasion, trading armor and practical clothing for something far more suited to a Naboo gala. The gown was predominantly white, fitted elegantly through the bodice before falling into softer layers below, with pale blue fabric and understated metallic detailing woven throughout. It was flattering without becoming ostentatious, the sort of balance Alina had learned to appreciate long before she was old enough to understand why appearances mattered at court. Her blonde hair had been drawn partially back into intricate braids, leaving the rest to fall in long waves behind her.

Finding Aiden eventually proved easier than navigating the crowd. She spotted Lira first, seated with a collection of other children near the steps and apparently surrounded by enough sweets to make the eventual consequences inevitable. The sight brought an immediate smile to Alina's face. She resisted the temptation to interrupt, content to let the girl enjoy herself with her friends, and instead followed the familiar presence of Aiden through the market.

He was standing with three others by the time she found him.

Alina approached without hurrying, waiting until there was a natural opening before stepping close enough to draw his attention.

"There you are."

The words carried more warmth than accusation. Her smile softened as she reached him, one hand settling briefly against his arm before she leaned in and pressed a light kiss to his cheek.

"Sorry I'm late, love."

She drew back just enough to look at him properly, azure eyes lingering on his face for a moment before turning toward the others gathered with him. Whatever affection had been in her expression remained, though it settled easily into the composed courtesy that had once been expected of a daughter raised among nobles and courtiers.

"Good evening, everyone."

Alina offered the small group a pleasant smile before looking back toward Aiden. Her gaze shifted first toward the brunette beside him, then toward the younger man and the Mikkian, never lingering long enough to become rude. There was a faint touch of amusement in the admission before her attention wandered briefly toward the steps again. Lira was still happily occupied with her friends and what appeared to be powdered donuts.

Alina's smile deepened.

"Though I see Lira hasn't suffered terribly in my absence."

Adon expected dust, collapsed walls, and a just maybe few answers that had survived Baros Sal-Soren. He did not expect a woman to stumble out of the dark.

For half a second he just stared, his lamp beam catching her face before dropping instinctively to her hands. He had spent enough time around soldiers to recognise when someone was hiding an injury.

“Stop.” The command carried more authority than invitation. He closed the distance, his focus narrowing on the subtle wrongness of her movements. The mystery of why anyone else was wandering these forgotten passages could wait.

“You’re hurt.” Only upon approaching, did he see her face. "Kitt...hell...what are you doing here?" The same could be said for him.

He glanced into the darkness behind her, then back toward his own escape route. Of all the tunnels beneath Naboo, and all the hours she could have chosen to explore them, she had to appear now. Adon almost laughed. Perhaps there was something to this Force nonsense after all.

He reached out carefully, offering her arm support rather than forcing it. “Can you walk?”

That wiped the smile from her face. A rare feat by anyone’s standards, yet Brandyn managed to do it.

It wasn’t the volume that got to her, Brandyn had shouted at her before. All four of the Sal-Soren children had spent their entire childhood perfecting increasingly inventive ways of getting beneath one another's skin.

No, it was the silence that remained afterwards. That sudden realise he wasn’t going to retreat from what he had said, that there was no apology coming, not even an unsaid one.

Just that glare, the anger and frustration in his one good eye seemingly more red and raw then the glow of his other. It all came together to allow for the briefest moment, Bastila to be back on Thyferra.

She saw Velda hanging in his grasp. Felt the absence of the Force pressing down upon her. Heard herself begging him to stop. She almost flinched. Almost.

Then Brandyn turned away and Bastila didn't follow.

"Go home, Bast!"

Her eyes drifted upwards to the shattered remains of the estate looming beyond the trees. To broken walls dressed in lanterns and the distant glow of a festival being held amongst the ruins of everything that had once made this place theirs.

One eyebrow rose.

"Brandyn." The shrubbery stopped moving as he clearly disappeared into the night. "This is home you idiot." She called out after him.

“And don’t you dare forget that.” This was quieter, clearly only for her. Bastila could feel it in her chest, that ever present pressure that mounted when the emotions started getting to heavy. At the corner of her eye she could feel the wet embrace of a tear threatening to ruin her makeup. “Stupid.”

She looked towards the festival once, perhaps considering the considerably easier option of doing precisely what she'd been told and for once with a glance towards the shrubbery she did exactly that.

Or at least that was the intention. She did turn from Brandyn’s escape path as was planned. Except the garden and the estate were no longer there.

Bastila gave out a long sigh and took in the ever ending darkness around her, the bridges of light and the incorporeal voices that seemed to come from everywhere at once.

“Not again…”

As he reached the top of the stairs that led down to the bonfire and dancing, Davran Rendari nearly collided with a statuesque blonde approaching from below, the pale blue shimmersilk of her dress interspersed with golden embroidery accents. She was unrecognizable until she reached the very top, and then Davran found himself face to face with Verity Stuyveris, Senator for Druckenwell. Their eyes met for a moment as she murmured an exceedingly polite Sorry, my fault before stepping to the side to free the stairs for him. Davran allowed his eyes to follow her a moment, then turned his gaze back to the festivities below.

He loved events like this. A celebration of all that Naboo had to offer.

Nothing could compete with the import of Naboo to the galaxy. The single-most consequential galactic leader in history, Sheev Palpatine, had been its Senator. It was the Trade Federation's blockade of the pastoral beauty of Naboo that had kicked off the events leading to the Clone Wars. Separate and apart from ancient history, though, Naboo had much to celebrate. Culture, beauty, tradition.

He reached the bottom, helped himself to a glass of wine, and grinned broadly at the cultural dances taking place before him.

"Hard to improve on this," Davran mused to himself, tapping his toes along with the music.

Tatiana sought to reassure Dominic with an unwavering smile even when he admitted he might not be able to dance for long. That he was on his feet at all was more than enough. That he was actually dancing should worry his enemies and reassure his allies. Senator Praxon was on the mend.

It truly was a unique experience. It might not be a sword of stars, but sometimes the simple things were as remarkable. All those present, and the only one that truly mattered was Dominic. One step, two step, slide by another couple. An elegant expression of organic emotion and coordination. Considering they didn't use wireless communication for meticulous planning it really was quite the experience. When it came down to it, they could coordinate their actions.

Soon, Dominic spoke of gratitude, and Tatiana listened. She had a thought to say something, but he would continue after only a brief pause. Still, Tatiana hardly saw any 'obligation' to what she'd done. It had seemed appropriate. She'd intruded upon his work on the ship, 'forced' him to indulge in seeing the wonders of the galaxy around them, shared her truth with Dominic, and then failed to be there to stop his abduction in time. After all that, didn't he deserve her to be there when he was not well? 'Obligation' was a term more accustomed to what her people would use in describing something simply by its utility.

Then Dominic asked something unexpected. Tatiana's blue eyes shifted aside to look at the man that'd drawn ever closer. Oh, how should she answer such a question? The unvarnished truth wouldn't suit the 'mood' would it? "My people... seek understanding. In all forms, Dominic," she replied softly for him alone. Yes, she felt that was a much more elegant description. A bit vague, but Dominic didn't really want an academic answer here of all times. Did he?

Wait, was this another moment she should kiss him? No. That would be when he was safely returned to his seat.

Dominic Praxon Dominic Praxon

qM7sxp0.png
Dominic’s smile lingered, though the strength behind it had begun to fracture. His stride shortened. The hand at Tatiana’s waist tightened was less an act of romance now, and more an necessary support fighting against the tremor working its way through his legs.

“I think,” he murmured, his breath thinning, “I may need to sit down.”

For a moment he just looked at her, close enough that the distant firelight danced in her eyes. Then, that crooked confidence flared back to life. “Though...this is the perfect moment.” His tone held absurdly resolute for a man currently being betrayed by his own joints. Before either of them could break the spell, Dominic leaned in.

The kiss was cautious at first, a gentle question, but it would deepen into something warmer should she not pull away. His hand settled firmly against her waist, pulling her close enough that the noise of the festival faded into white noise. For a few precious seconds, Dominic forgot he was standing on borrowed time.

Then his body remembered for him. His knee buckled.

The kiss broke as his weight suddenly dropped. Dominic caught himself desperately against her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder for support. Breathless, thoroughly embarrassed, and still entirely too pleased with himself, he looked up at her from a half-collapse. “Worth it.”

For the briefest moment, Sibylla simply stared at Aurelian as he seemed to brighten at the possibility that she might join him for his meeting with Dominique. Despite everything, the corner of her mouth twitched.

"That would be rather remarkably convenient." There was little true humor behind it, but enough to soften the ache between them.

"I will be delaying my resignation for now... There are certainly a lot of elements in flux with the attacks... and I want to talk to you more about it." Sibylla followed up quietly, her fingers squeezing his lightly. Truthfully, the delay was warranted. With everything revolving around the attack on Thyferra, Bassardro, and Frego, the attention on the artifact, and how the Jedi were reacting, convening the Houses now would only add another crisis to the pile.

"But I believe that is a conversation that remains between the Chancellor and the King of Naboo with the respect her position deserves. You have been in those shoes, Aurelian, even temporarily; you know the pressures and scrutiny she faces."

But when Aurelian continued, revealing the true depths of what he had experienced with the artifact, the faint amusement disappeared. Her expression blanched further as he described the nightmares, the reports, and finally the most horrifying part of all -- that he had spoken as if possessed by some other entity yet remembered none of it -- it was the worst of her fears come to life.

"Aurelian..." Hazel eyes swept over him as though she might somehow find some lingering trace of whatever had happened aboard the Grace of Theed.

"Are you certain you do not need further examinations? More scans or tests? Maybe Cora or Adelle could examine you?" Concern coated her voice. After everything Sibylla had witnessed groundside on Thyferra, she was not particularly inclined to take chances when it came to Aurelian. Irony of ironies, she now harbored the very same concerns for his well-being that he so often held for hers, especially when he had learned that a fragment of Vere had been attached to her.

And now she wondered whether either of them should even be attending this Cultural Exchange to begin with. But then he spoke of stepping away from Republic politics, and Sibylla paused.

Aurelian had spoken of focusing upon Naboo before, particularly after his removal as Interim Chancellor, yet he had never truly taken his hand from the pulse of Republic politics. Nor could he entirely because Naboo remained tied to the Republic, which meant there was no simply stepping away from it. Yet something about his tone told her he meant it this time.

More importantly, it did not sound impulsive. Aurelian was admitting his own recklessness aloud, which alone told her how seriously he meant it.

That gave her pause, because beneath everything else lay a concern she understood all too well. Her gaze dropped briefly to their joined hands before returning to him.

"Focusing upon Naboo..." she began thoughtfully. After Thyferra, after everything she had witnessed there, the true power of the Sith and the devastation they were willing to unleash had been painfully seared into her memory.

Sibylla could hardly fault him for wanting to turn his attention homeward -- especially with how it affected her afterward.

Something in her had changed on Thyferra. She was still discovering precisely what, but Aurelian might glimpse it now in the way concern remained etched across her features yet beneath it rested a harder acerbity he would not have seen in her before.

"You are right. I have seen what the Sith are capable of firsthand, Aurelian." She lifted her gaze to meet his. "I saw what their war machine did to soldiers and civilians alike. How their biochemical weapons tore through people without warning or mercy. I watched them raze the fields and bacta facilities, knowing precisely what they were doing."

Shoulders rose as she took another deep breath, her jaw tightening at the chaotic conversation she had with Quinn when it had all gone down. At the time, they had been trying to survive, but what happened there had carved scars that went beyond what lined her face.

"And I expect they will do it again." Perhaps Thyferra had become a line of demarcation for Sibylla. Whatever she had understood about this war before, she understood something very different now.

"They will come again, Aurelian. I am sure of it..." The light seemed to gleam with a harsher edge in her hazel eyes as they remained fixed upon his.

"So what exactly do you have in mind?"

The smell alcohol was strong in the air and not just from the bar. He spoke freely, the edges of his words slurred just a touch, and he reached for his next shot glass with a less careful hand than sobriety would have allowed. Cal’s lips twitched in a smirk for a heartbeat. It would perhaps have been better for him if his stubbornness had not won this particular battle. She foresaw an incredible headache in the morning for him, especially if the rumors of his length of absence were true. Surely, tolerance could not survive a year of withdrawal.

"What about you? What sort of adventures have you gotten yourself into?"

Oh he had to ask. The pleasant mask slipped as Calypso thought about how utterly complicated answering that question had become lately. She desperately wanted to speak with Lancel but how could she approach him in a way that he wouldn’t immediately accuse her?

“Well, I’m sure you heard the reports from Thyferra,” she said, recovering from her dark thoughts. Honesty would help her here. “I did what I could to reform the Aurodium Guard so when Epica’s Repulic garrison was alerted, we deployed half the Guard to support their efforts. Admittedly, we had another reason to support the Republic.” Cal took another drink from her glass before continuing.

“Lord Lancel Atria, my late husband’s younger brother, was there on Family business. My mother-in-law wanted to ensure his safe return.”

“Our casualties were higher than I’d wished for but not terrible. With more work, the Aurodium Guard will be a perfectly capable paramilitary force,”
she said. Hopefully that satisfied Lord Abrantes’ curiosity. It also did not place her there and no one outside the Guard would have been able to identify her in that battle. They could now move past it.

She did not look back at the dancefloor. She did not need to betray herself like that.

"Looking pretty handsome yourself."

The young Hapan man’s eyebrows shot up at the effusive greeting. Tavian felt Persephone’s fingers curl into the front of his uniform, dragging him into a kiss that he met all too willingly. His eyes flickered closed and he disappeared for a moment into the smell of her perfume and taste of her lips that he had been without for so many months.

When they broke apart he smiled from ear to ear.

“Thank you. I suppose you have missed me after all then? Or the training worked. Not just a silver spoon anymore. One might argue with the methods, but never the results.”

He teased her lightly, but found he could not let go of her, arm wrapped around her waist.

“Quite the event, this celebration.”

Not necessarily her scene either. Well, not for very long at least. Tavian thought she had a rather short social battery for these types of affairs.

“Have you been having fun?”

The later the evening wore on, the deeper Briana's heart sank like a cold weight inside her chest, pulling the air from her lungs with every struggling beat, the further down it traveled. Her eyes kept sweeping the glittering crowds, scanning the couples spinning around the firelight, and over every dark-haired man whose height or bearing made hope leap painfully into her throat. But each time the crowd opened up and another joined their ranks, she was disappointed to find only strangers.

Around and around she continued to twisted the ring on her left hand until the skin beneath grew tender, as though the band had become a noose tightening around her throat and every frantic rotation was an attempt to work her fingers beneath the rope so she could breathe.

Vizion is not cruel.

She told herself. He would not ask her to wait for him and then simply fail to appear. He would not leave her standing beneath the lights of her ruined childhood home, wearing her mother's dress, wondering whether the man she loved had already decided the end of their future, and lacked the courage to tell her. He would not do that.

Perhaps his airspeeder had broken down. Perhaps some complication at the Temple demanded his attention. There was a dozen different reasons, and Briana turned over each explanation in her mind, repeating them as a though they were prayers to Shiraya, a hope against the fear steadily taking root inside her.

Surely, Vizion would not leave her waiting like this again, as he had on Hapes all those years ago, when everything was falling apart and she'd needed him most. They were not those people anymore, and surely, surely, he would not reopen that old wound so carelessly. But the silence in the waiting was suffocating, all the same.

Briana slipped the clutch from beneath her arm, opening it with a 'click' to withdraw her datapad. Its pale glow washed over her face as she checked the message thread once more, only to find that nothing changed. Only the remnants of their last exchange and the parting words, come home on the screen.

And she did.

She'd come back to Evenfall and all its ghosts, put on her mother's gown, fastened Shiraya's moonfan into her hair, and stood beneath the ruins of her life... and he wasn't here. With a shaky inhale, she shut off the screen and tucked the datapad away before anyone could glimpse the hurt written plainly across her face. Her hand rose to her chest, pressing against the frantic beat of her heart as if she might command it into stillness. She'd held soldiers together across a battlefield, reached through the Force and steadied hundreds of frightened minds while the dead clawed their way back to their feet.

Yet she couldn't reason her own mind into believing she wasn't being abandoned.

It was best to slip away before anyone took notice of her rapidly deteriorating mood and she became stuck in a conversation with some well-meaning face asking where her fiancé was, offering that thin, polite concern that would shatter her last shred of composure. Gathering up the heavy, multi-colored folds of her dress, Briana threaded her way through the dancers and turned her steps toward Shiraya's Temple.

Why, she couldn't precisely say.

It was the last place she ever thought she'd seek out, going back to the place where they'd found the bodies of both her parents. The place where the very last thread of her childhood had died, and she'd understood, with a terrible finality, that nothing would ever be the same again.

But long before the Temple became a symbol and monument to her grief, it'd been a beautiful place of peace and serenity.

Unlike Brandyn, Briana hadn't gone searching for their mother's spirit after she passed. Perhaps part of her feared that nothing would answer if she tried. Perhaps another part feared that something would, and she'd have to face her mother's judgment on how well her eldest daughter shouldered the life left behind for her, or hear how often she believed she'd failed beneath its weight. Either way, it was best leave the unknown as that, in her mind.

But as a child, she'd always known exactly where to find her. When she needed Teyla rather than Lady Sal-Soren, she'd slip away to the Temple.

There, beneath the sheltering wings of the otherworldly statue of Shiraya, she'd often find her mother kneeling down in the quiet, stripped of courtly poise. Teyla always seemed different there, gentler. As though she could set down every title she carried and simply be her mother. It'd always felt safe, because of that. And tonight, with her hope fraying, Briana found that she needed her mother with the same helpless certainty she had as a girl.

Her feet remembered the way easily, carrying her beyond the reach of the festival music and up the familiar temple steps. She entered without hesitation, so certain she would find the sanctuary empty that she failed to notice the figure within at first.

In the dimness, she mistook them for part of the statuary, until she came closer and they moved.

Briana stopped short. The raw, vulnerable thing that'd driven her there, folding swiftly back behind her ribs, sealed away beneath well-practiced composure. Disappointment flickered through her, followed immediately by embarrassment. She'd come seeking solitude and instead intruded upon someone else's. "Oh." Her brows furrowed and her fingers tightened around the folds of her dress as she took a step backward. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize anyone would be here. I'll leave you to your prayers."

Perhaps Tatiana should have used her abilities to scrutinize Dominic's physical form closely and feel when he was at his limit before he himself did. She'd been so mesmerized by the moment, however, that she'd put aside such thoughts. This Cultural Exchange event was the manifestation of everything she sought to do among these Human-like species; and at times perhaps she got a little lost indulging in their mannerisms. So, Dominic had to breathe the lament of weakness in his legs before a mildly surprised blond took note.

Before she took action, however, she noticed something in the way he looked at her. It wasn't a plea. Not exactly full of expectation that she do something about his condition. And then there was the tone of his voice when he uttered something about a 'perfect moment.'

Unexpectedly, Dominic leaned in and placed his lips upon her own. And not for a fraction of a second either. Widened blue eyes stared ahead for a second as she felt his hand move along her waist. After that second, Tatiana made sure to relax into the kiss, tip her head just so, and let her hand slid over his shoulder a bit further to signal he shouldn't flee too quickly.

This was... yes, this was decidedly something other than the quick kiss she'd given him outside his room after the garden.

And just like that, Dominic's knee buckled. Gravity moved quickly, and he was forced to tried grasping for her shoulder to stay aloft. Tatiana, however, didn't feel that Dominic needed to prove anything further. Just as abruptly as he'd dropped, a gentle, enveloping presence helped defy gravity and slowly lift him until he was almost at his full height. "I'll caption the holo image with those words." If there were one. If there were not, Tatiana would make one. Somehow that felt appropriate. Some analysis would be needed to better understand the factors that led to that decision. Later.

"Let me lead the way to a seat. Focus on moving your feet before your Man rushes across the dance floor." Tatiana smiled, imagining the sort of scandal that would be. They could fake the strength in his legs using the Force to keep him upright. If she could fly, he could stand. Dominic had already made that quite clear earlier.

"And Dominic," she looked over at him, "I wouldn't mind if we shared a dance again some time." Was that too polite or meek? Surprisingly writings never really went into detail about these exchanges! They were so full of passion and emotion no one bothered to write about their mechanics -- they weren't 'romantic' enough.
