  • Origins: Spilursia
  • Average Lifespan: 45 Standard Years
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: Miredrakes were a large, omnivorous, water-dwelling creatures native to Spilursia. They were often used for transport and as war mounts due to their speed, strength, and ferocity. They had the ability to emit hydrothermal blasts from their mouths at temperatures hotter than most underwater volcanoes, though they could modulate the temperature of their blasts. In the wild, they lived near volcanoes and hydrothermal vents. There were legends of Miredrakes reaching the size of whales and the like, though none have ever been found that size.

  • Distinctions: Miredrakes were large aquatic predator similar in appearance to a seahorse. Unlike their diminutive and harmless apparent cousins however they had long, uncurled tails and large webbed fin-like feet with sharp claws. Their scales came in a variety of colors including reds, greens, yellows, and blues. Long snouts ended in vicous looking jaws with rows of serrated shark-like teeth. There was sexual dimorphism noted in the species with females being larger than males. Their meat does not taste good and so they were rarely used for food outside of times of crisis.
  • Races: Outside of wild Miredrakes there were several domesticated breeds.
    • Drake: A breed of Miredrakes that most closely resembled their ancient wild counterparts. They were said to have the hottest hydrothermal blast of all Miredrakes and had the best stamina and speed of the breeds. They were used almost exclusively by Spilursian Rangers.
    • Destrier: Larger than most Miredrakes, the Destrier were typically reserved for nobles. They were difficult to control but fiercely loyal. They were often considered stronger even than the Drake. Occasionally, more well-off merchants or bankers used them to pull their armored carts of credits, money, and goods.
    • Reef Drake: Also just simply called a Miredrake, these were the most common domesticated Miredrake. They were used for transport and work by the common folk.
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive

  • Swim Speed: They can swim as fast as most watercraft can move.
Weaknesses:
  • Cannot Walk on land
  • Cannot breathe air
CULTURE

  • Communication: Horse-Like Body Language; Aquatic Echolocation; Growls and Whinnies
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Miredrakes in the wild typically avoid humans unless desperate for food. They live in small herds of 3 to 4 with an alpha matriarch. thousands of years of breeding has led to several offshoot breeds of the Miredrake including Destriers, Reef Drakes, and others. These are more friendly with humans but still retain suspicion. They are not easily trained but have become an enduring part of Spilursian culture, especially for the Common Caste who often lack the credits to own modern vehichles.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Miredrake has been a part of Spilursian culture for thousands of years. One of the first creatures tamed by the aquatic peoples they have been used in nearly every capacity from transport, to security beast. Over the course of their relationship with the Spilurisans their wild population has declined and changed. Where a single herd of Miredrakes in ancient days would have threatened the peace of an entire village due to their aggression and hydrothermal attacks, modern wild miredrakes are smaller and more in line with what common folk use and see on a daily basis. Even in modern times the Miredrake retains its use as a transport and war mount due to its speed in the water.
