STRENGTHS

Fast and Maneuverable: Designed with rotating wings, vectored jets and ample power the Protectorate Fighter is both nimble and quick being able to engage the most agile fighters with confidence and the speed to engage or disengage at the pilot's discretion all but the fasted craft in the galaxy. Internal dampeners and mitigation systems allow the airframe to withstand the stresses of tight and drastic maneuvers and high g acceleration.

Advanced SLAM Capability: Is equipped with a SLAB-01 SubLight AfterBurner and AIMS-01 Active Internal Maneuverability System by the N&Z Umbrella Corporation which in tandem allow the vessel to temporarily increase or decrease its speed rating by one to two ratings at the cost of increasing or decreasing its maneuverability by the corresponding rating.


WEAKNESSES

Increased Logistics: The craftsmanship and bespoke nature of the MDL Fang-Class Protectorate Fighter incurs some real-world drawbacks as it is no longer the mass-produced main stream fighter it was based upon. The MDL variant is more expensive and time consuming to build and maintain resulting in fewer numbers of the model being able to be deployed and when it is it is in smaller squadron sizes.

Rotating Wings: The variable geometry rotating wings are an advantage to be sure but it is an advantage that must be paid for with having a critical aspect of the crafts design relying on a complex piece of engineering susceptible to mechanical failure and combat damage. Even moderate damage to the wings critical structural components can render the vessel incapable of articulating its wings and could dramatically reduce the craft's maneuverability.

Lightly Built: To compensate for the heavy and complicated wing system, the rest of the vessel is engineered to be as light as possible. The cockpit is small and rather cramped with very little storage space for the pilot's kit reducing its utility to undertake long patrols.


DESCRIPTION

Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics has redesigned the standard MandalMotors Fang-Class Protectorate Fighter to the specifications of the Guard Patrol resulting in the MDL variant of the iconic Mandalorian starfighter. In typical MDL fashion the basic design has been retained including the class leading rotating S-foil whing system of the original design but have modernized and improved the electronics to bring them up to modern standards. And its capabilities have been fine-tuned to better meet the needs of the Mandalorian Protectors. Upgrading the platform from a class 2 to a class 1 hyperdrive now puts the craft on par with other front-line fighters and provides it the ability to strategically deploy to all sectors of Mandalorian space without the need of a supporting carrier.

Its low frontal silhouette helps to reduce its attack profile and its speed and agility make it a formidable opponent in a dog-fight and with its complimentary SLAB and AIMS systems it has the option in combat of empathizing speed or maneuverability.

With both laser and ion cannons and a cluster missile system the MDL Fang is well armed and able to perform less than lethal attacks in order to subdue hostile craft when required and its shielding is robust enough to survive enemy fire while doing so.

The MDL Fang is operationally optimized to operate in small groups, mostly in less than squadron size to support the Guard Patrol's Gunboat and Patrol craft relying upon its superior performance and pilot quantity for success instead of sheer numbers. When deployed in independent, two element, patrols the Fang's small size and limited pilot space limits its patrol utility to inter systems patrol and port security. Each sector does however maintain a ready force of Fangs that can be rapidly deployed to reinforce engaged Guard forces if needed. Small and fast the Fang is a bane to any pirates foolish enough to operate in Mandalorian space.
