SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: 'Mdanam Akra
  • Classification: Fortress, Clan Keep
  • Location: Caerdar
  • Affiliation: Thova 'Mdanam, Bryn'adul
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: A vast majority of those who reside within 'Mdanam Akra are Vaydralen of the 'Mdanam Clan. Other Vaydralen are present within the compound, with a minor population of other Bryn'adul species present.
    • 95% Vaydralen
    • 5% Other Bryn'adul Species
  • Accessibility: Located along the edges of the Super-Construct Tok-Mun, 'Mdanam Akra is a highly fortified and isolated location. On top of the considerable defenses built by the Bryn'adul on the world, the Fortress of Clan 'Mdanam retains its pre-ascension defenses. There is only a single entrance to the compound, and all air travel over the location is tracked and targeted by ground based defenses until proven non hostile.
  • Description: 'Mdanam Akra is a massive, multi-kilometer spanning compound designed in ages past to serve as a bastion for Clan 'Mdanam. High walls surround the complex, and only a single ground entrance is available, which is itself on accessible from the Bryn'adul Super-Construct. Limestone makes up the primary building material for most of the keep, with steel and gold used as reinforcement rather than decorative. A central keep is located towards the rear of the complex, with several growing rings of structures spreading out from there. Occasional towers dot the complex, each one topped by the stone carving of an ancient 'Mdanam warrior who brought great honor to the Clan. Lush gardens and ponds are spread out around the compound, focused along walkways and gathering places. A large starport is situated on the back left corner of the compound, and serves as the primary means of transpiration into and out of 'Mdanam Akra.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Center Hold: The largest building in all of 'Mdanam Akra, the Center Hold serves as the primary meeting hall for all those who live in the fortress compound, as well as the seat of governance for the reigning Clan Leader. The Center Hold is five stories tall, with a main entry hall nearly a kilometer in length alone. While marble floors are lined with red carpets inscribed with ancient symbols that have lost their meaning to time, and pedestals lining the hall show ancient Clan Leaders, clad in ceremonial armor and each wielding their iteration of Vor'kar Tanel, the Blade of the 'Mdanam. A great throne resides at the far end of the entry hall, ten meters above the ground, and surrounded on all sides by an ever flowing waterfall. A short bridge leads over the canal that surrounds the throne, which is made of pure crimson steel. The second level of the center hold is dedicated to feasting halls, while the third through fifth are primarily living quarters and libraries.
  • 'Mdanam Arsenal: Located near the entrance of the fortress, the 'Mdanam Arsenal is the second largest building. A large domed structure, the arsenal resides on the largest crafted pond in the entire complex. The arsenal holds the collective weapons of Clan 'Mdanam, and in times of need can serve as a fortified defensive position should the Clan come under siege. The balance between nature and war is carefully kept in mind with the construction of the arsenal and its surrounding areas, a reminder to all Vaydralen warriors of their place and duty in the world.
  • Mausoleum: The Mausoleum of Clan 'Mdanam houses the remains of all those warriors who died honorable deaths in the long history of the Clan. Thousands upon thousands of warriors lay buried beneath relatively small overhead structure, and numerous shrines and meditation spaces have been built throughout the catacombs beneath for Vaydralen warriors and visitors. It is a common sight to see kneeling warriors in these shrines, meditating on the lessons the honored dead have to pass on to the new generations, and considered how they themselves can earn their place among their ranks.
  • Chieftain Hold: The Chieftain Hold is the newest structure built within the ancient complex, the only one designed with a mixture of Bryn'adul and Vaydralen construction techniques. The building is at all times guarded, even though it has remained empty since its creation. The two story structure is designed to serve as the housing and meeting place for the Chieftain of the Bryn'adul should the leader of the Great Effort ever choose to visit 'Mdanam Akra.

SECURITY
  • Maximum
    • 'Mdanam Akra is an incredibly highly fortified location on Caerdar, as is every Vaydralen Clan keep. Located on the outskirts of Tok-Mun, the fortress has the advantage of the heavy defenses of the Bryn'adul Super-Construct as their first line of defense, as well as the legions of Bryn'adul warriors within. Should a foe get past this, they must contend with the ancient defenses of the fortress keep itself, built up over countless centuries of endless wars. Twenty meter tall walls surround the entire complex, with guard towers equipped with Tetrarch Assault Cannons and Crusader Ballista to deter against any air based assault, or even engage enemy warships in orbit. Quilxyn colonies spread out around the fortress complex provide shielding for the various buildings of importance, as well as protecting primary lanes of travel. Should these defenses prove unable to stop an enemy assault, they must then deal with thousands of heavily armed and very angry Vaydralen defenders within the fortress itself, each ready to give their lives in the defense of their home.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In the ancient days of Caerdar and Vaydralen civilization, the wars between the various Clans on the planet were as unending as they were brutal. Thousands died in wars without true meaning, and thousands more were forced to flee their homes under the ravages of their foes. When the ravagers of the greater galaxy began to attack the world as well, wreaking havoc and sowing disruption among their people, a new type of home was required by the Vaydralen people. The first Akra were constructed nearly two thousand years before the coming of the Bryn'adul, each one a city as much as a fortress capable of housing hundreds of thousands of souls, and with defenses enough to protect them. In time, every Clan that still existed on Caerdar had built their own fortress keep, and from their the wars of their people shifted in dynamic.

With the development of the Akra, wars were no longer fought for land or spoils. Such things were nearly impossible to achieve, as each Akra was a near impenetrable fortress. Instead, wars began to focus more on honorable conflicts between the various Clans, and the modern day Vaydralen society began to take form. When the Bryn'adul came to Caerdar and elevated the Vaydralen to a place within their Covenant, the Akra took on a new purpose. Their locations became key bastions as the first and largest Super-Construct on Caerdar, Tok-Mun, was constructed. Located along its outer edges, the Akra serve as bastions of Vaydralen authority within the greater Bryn'adul society, and as mustering points for Bryn'adul military efforts on the planet.

'Mdanam Akra, once a relatively small Akra before the coming of the Bryn'adul, has in recent times been elevated to a place of prominence among the other fortress keeps. The red and blue banners of Clan 'Mdanam hang proudly over the walls of 'Mdanam Akra, and serve as a reminder for every warrior who departs the hallowed fortress what they are fighting for.
