The Legacy of the MC140 Scythe-Class Main Battle Cruiser was one that stretched throughout the centuries, and even survived the Four Hundred Years of Darkness. However, as the recent spread of Imperialism took the Galaxy by storm, the Stars soon forgot about the former symbol of freedom and prosperity. The glorious Mon Calamari-influenced design was soon replaced by the hard, angular wedge of Imperial Star Destroyers. With the demise of the Mon Calamari homeworld and their people being scattered to the celestial wind, it was likely that the Scythe would never return. That the warship’s legacy would truly be forgotten with no hope of revivification.
However, there was a glimmer of hope. When the populace of Mon Calamari took to the stars, they took with them the secrets of their craft. Amongst those many secrets were the schematics for the venerable MC140, and it’s various offspring. When news of their tragedy came to light, the Republic Engineering Corporation sought to give the errant people of Dac a chance to rebuild, and for some - an opportunity for vengeance. From this moment of fortune, the Free Dac Engineering Corps was established, and was bequeathed a selection of Deep Space installations from where they could work in relative safety and seclusion to restore their collective pride. From this endeavour, the MC140 found itself reborn as the MC140c - the newest iteration of the Scythe-Class Cruiser.
On the surface, the MC140c was little different from its predecessor. The overall structure was larger than the original version, but that was a design choice meant to house more advanced systems that couldn’t be miniaturized, and add additional batteries in select locations to increase the warship’s versatility in combat. The once famed Cross of Fire was unfeasible in the modern era, especially when attacks could come from any angle and outpace their variable methods of re-orientation. To allay those dissenting concerns, the Mon Calamari introduced a tiered methodology to their armament blisters, which combined with their measured disposition of overlapping fields of fire, made the Scythe a capable warship when combating foes from almost every angle.
From there, the advancements to the venerable MC140 design were wrought within the bulbous armoured husk and it’s myriad connecting corridors. Many of the systems that were integrated into the Warship’s design were networked by a collection of slaved droid brains, and various technological means - allowing the vessel to operate with a significantly reduced Organic Crew complement. Terminals that were once analog, found themselves advanced beyond compare, as their surfaces became holographic projections that were manipulated by variable operators throughout the entirety of the ship. With this new advancement, it made things difficult for unauthorized personnel to access the ship’s ships - meaning that if it were to be captured or salvaged, it’d be nothing more than an overpriced heap of scrap.
Adding in the comprehensive security measures, and internal and external countermeasures, the MC140c would easily fall prey to unauthorized commands - be they from hostile slicers or mechu-deru specialists. The latter would find themselves overwhelmed by the amount of feedback they’d receive whilst trying to force their will onto the Warship. Due to the linked network of Droid Brains, and the Shipboard AI - there would be voices and the collective will of thousands of digital minds competing against a lonely candle, flickering in the shadows. Despite the vast capabilities of the warship to fend off the myriad method of hostile electronic warfare, there existed the possibility that these measures would be defeated - and so a host of redundancies would be required in order to keep the warship space-worthy. There was even the chance that the dedicated shipboard AI was capable of operating the ship, should the Organic crew be incapaciated, or killed - although this meant the combat efficacy would be significantly reduced.
There was an interesting addition to the MC140c that some of the design technicians were pleased to include. It was a system that worked towards fooling traditional sensors, making the enemy believe that the ship was bigger, or smaller than it actually was. Should their deception work, which meant that the vessel was outside of the visual engagement range, the enemy’s firing solutions would be targeting empty space - when in reality, the armoured portions of the Scythe would be physically elsewhere. This would give the Warship an incredible boon in combat at longer distances, where the enemy would be wastefully consigning munitions to the void - whilst the Scythe sought to deliver the killing blow.
With the advanced technologies woven into the heavily armoured form of the MC140c, the most notable addition - aside from the decentralized AI core and heavily automated systems, was the regenerating hull plating. In combining Animated Metal Sealant and Laminanium, the MC140c would be able to automatically repair itself in a crude manner that partially mimicked an organic sapient’s physiology. This process would be further enhanced by the deployment of automated repair drones would assist the warship with making battlefield repairs. It wouldn’t be a perfect process, but the sealed bulkheads and semi-repaired systems would be enough to keep the warship in the fight - or at least until the vessel made it back to friendly waters.
Thus, and in conclusion, the MC140c was not only a warship that embodied the ideals of it’s technical ancestor, but the new iteration of the Scythe-Class sought to forge a new legacy amongst the spatial battlefields of the modern era.
