GENERAL INFORMATION
- Planet Name: Marvex
- Demonym: Marvexian
- Region: Deep Outer Rim
- System Name: Marvex System
- System Features: The Marvex system has two planets: Marvex and Xenon. They are both terrestrial planets that orbit the yellow dwarf Marvex Prime. Marvex is the inhabited world while Xenon (larger but mostly barren rock with a dusty atmosphere) is used for raw material extraction.
- Location: Deep Outer Rim
- Major Imports: Raw Materials, Food, Water
- Major Exports: Military Technology, Naval Ships
- Unexploited Resources: None — the planet’s natural resources were exhausted a long time ago.
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
- Gravity: 1.1 Standard
- Climate: Perpetually cloudy due to centuries of industrial pollution. Warmer than naturally occurring temperatures due to industrial heat output. Acid rain is common in the lower city levels. The upper cityscape sits above the permanent cloud layer and receives actual sunlight. The lower levels rarely see natural light.
- Terrain: The entire surface of Marvex is covered by cityscape. No natural terrain survives. Upper levels are maintained and clean. Lower levels descend into industrial zones and factory floors. No natural bodies of water are left. The planet’s water is entirely managed through industrial systems.
- Atmosphere: Type I or Type II, depending on the level of the planet a person is at. Upper levels are clean and the lower you go the worse the pollution gets.
- Planet Size: 9,000 kilometer diameter (10,000 including the ship building ring)
LOCATION INFORMATION
- Capital City: Marvex — the entire planet is essentially one giant city.
Planetary Features:
- The Marvex Shipyard Ring — a massive orbital construction ring encircling the entire planet. Originally a classified NIO reserve shipyard, expanded significantly under Ostell. Currently housing the construction of his new battle cruisers. It is the most strategically significant structure in Ostell's entire fiefdom. Whoever controls the ring controls Ostell's future military capacity.
- The Upper City — the highest levels of Marvex's cityscape, situated above the cloud layer. Clean air, actual sunlight, wealthy districts. Ostell's planetary governor and senior officers are housed here. The only part of Marvex that doesn't require a respirator.
- The Industrial Belt — the mid-levels of the cityscape. It is the working heart of Marvex, factories, processing facilities, assembly lines, etc are all housed here. The majority of the population lives and works here. Permanently cloudy. Acid rain is common.
- The Deep Foundries — the lowest accessible levels of Marvex. The original industrial core from which the planet's development grew. Currently it is used for machinery to sustain the city and its population. Workers here must wear a breathing device at all times. The Atmosphere here is Type II at best.
- The Governor's Palace — located in the Upper City. Ostell's representative on Marvex operates from here. Considerably less ornate than Ostell's palace on Velar, even Ostell knows Marvex is a work planet not a home.
FORCE NEXUS
- N/A
POPULATION
- Native Species: Human
- Immigrated Species: Mostly Human, but with plenty of other Outer Rim Sentiant Species mixed in
- Population: Heavy — ~5 Billion
- Demographics: Mostly Human, but with plenty of other Outer Rim Sentiant Species mixed in. The humans arrived with the NIO while the alien species arrived for work, to trade or for other reasons.
- Primary Languages: Galactic Basic and a variety of Alien Languages. Ostell known he cannot force the large alien population to learn Basic when he needs them to work.
- Culture: The culture of Marvex is defined entirely by work. You are what you produce. The Upper City maintains an Imperial aesthetic — order, hierarchy, discipline inherited from the NIO. The Industrial Belt has developed its own working class culture built around shared labor and community. The alien populations maintain their own cultural traditions alongside the dominant Imperial human culture. Ostell does not interfere as long as production continues.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
- Government: Autocracy — ruled by a Planetary Governor that answers to Ostell
- Affiliation: Ostell’s Imperial Remnant (though soon to fall under the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant)
- Wealth: Wealthy — though this wealth is unequally distributed amongst the population. Most of it is concentrated within the top 20% and in the Orbital Ship Yards.
- Stability: Medium — Most of the population doesn't love Ostell but as long as they are paid their wages they will be fine. The planet also has a large garrison though most of it is tied up doing police work in the city. The rest are guarding the orbital ship yards where Ostell’s new battle cruisers are under construction.
- Freedom & Oppression: Freedom on Marvex is determined entirely by which level you live on. Upper City residents enjoy genuine Imperial freedoms. Industrial Belt workers are technically free but economically trapped. Deep Foundry workers exist in conditions that blur the line between employment and servitude. Alien species face additional discrimination in the Upper City regardless of wealth. In the Industrial Belt and Deep Foundry there is no time for that.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
- Military: Ostell has dedicated the other half of his fleet to Marvex’s defense due to the planet’s production potential. Though the surface of the planet has few dedicated defense facilities the orbital ship yards feature a numerous Turbolasers and Laser Cannon positions. It also has a couple of hangers which house a variety of standard TIE models.
- Fleet Strength: 7 Imperial II Class Star Destroyer, 8 Strike Class Cruiser, 8 Arquitens Class Command Cruiser and 10 Lancer Class Frigates
- Technology: Overall Galaxy/Imperial Standard. Notably advanced shipbuilding and manufacturing capability in the orbital ship building ring that dates back to classified NIO programmes.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Discovery:
Centuries ago during the dying days of the First Order some surviving Imperial forces and supporters discovered Marvex as they attempted to flee the wrath of the galaxy and the New Republic. Searching away from major hyperlanes in the Outer Rim, they found the planet to be in a unique position, far enough for major hyperlanes to avoid detection, yet close enough to support if a new Imperial movement rose again. To ensure they would be in a position of power in this new Imperial resurgence the commanders ordered the rapid industrialization of the planet and the construction of a orbital ship building ring much like the one on Kuat. Though it would take centuries of careful trading with the wider galaxy, resource extraction from Xenon and the complete depletion of Marvex’s natural resources the project was finally completed centuries later. Marvex became completely urbanized, its natural terrain having been wiped away to pave the way for a multiple layer planet city (though it was nowhere near extensive as Coruscant’s). Likewise the ship building ring had also been completed and was upgraded multiple times to stay with current ship building techniques and designs. It would be a great find for the NIO when they rose to power.
The NIO:
As the NIO rose to power, Marvex was amongst the first planets to answer the call, though they were careful to avoid being the first ones to join just in case the movement collapsed early. When it became certain the NIO was going to become a major power, Marvex joined and secured a position as a reserve ship yard for the Imperials. The relationship was good and the planet became wealthy from its many shipbuilding contracts. The standard of living rose significantly and the ship yard was expanded again, making it large enough to build larger warships such as battlecruisers. It’s location remained classified from the beginning. It was within both the NIO and Marvex’s interest to keep it that way. As revealing its location could have had disastrous consequences for both parties. Even the ships built by Marvex were delivered to a rendezvous point, that constantly changed, to keep enemy intelligence from triangulating the position of the planet. Captain Charles’s first ship The Stryker (before its upgrade at Mahporeem) was actually one of the last ships produced before the NIO’s sudden collapse. Thought the Captain wouldn’t figure it out until much later when he and other forces from the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant invaded the planet to capture Ostell’s fleet of battlecruisers before their completion.
Post NIO:
Though many in Marvex noticed the fractures, it was still a surprise when the NIO collapsed. The signs should have been visible. Infighting between leadership, Civil Wars, Outside Pressures and loss of core worlds all contributed to the factions collapse. Far from command centers Marvex only noticed when NIO ships stopped appearing to take over the ships they produced for them. Leadership shut down. They pulled inward, bracing for the worst. They eventually decided to make contact with whatever was still out there. It was then, when then Vice Admiral Ostell was waiting at one of the former rendezvous points with his fleet. They negotiated, the Admiral already had another system under his control and his fleet seemed larger than the typical Imperial Fleet. So, seeing him as their best option they agreed to submit to his rule.
Current Day:
Today Marvex is a relatively stable world, still wealthy, still producing ships just in a more limited capacity with resource constraints. Their efforts are entirely focused on building a series of ten new battlecruisers for Ostell’s fleet, though construction has been slow for the aforementioned resource constraints. The ten battle cruisers represent Ostell's bid to become a truly significant power in the Outer Rim. If completed they would triple his effective fleet strength. He will never see them completed.
First Scouting Squadron has been given their orders. It will be the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant who ends up with them.
