PRODUCTION INFORMATION

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • This technology combines two major innovations in ballistic technologies, the first being Cased Telescopic Ammunition. This weapon's design makes each round slightly fatter than standard rounds, however this is made up for with a larger powder charge that surrounds the round instead of the round being placed ahead of the main charge. This reduces the length of the round, while only marginally increasing the width of the round where the powder is located. This alongside the incorporation of lighter materials in case construction makes each bullet 60% lighter while also carrying a larger charge.
  • The second innovation incorporated into this technology is Electrothermal-Chemical powder based technology. In short this is a new style of charge that makes the weapon's powder charge burn hotter, burn faster, and generate more pressure than standard propellant technologies. This allows for the similar charge in the weapon to be able to be more effective than any other on the market, using a liquid oxidizer with Isotope-5B (a significant byproduct when producing Isotope-5A in a molecular Furnace). This combination makes an extremely powerful fuel for the round in particular, without turning the weapon into a veritable bomb if you instead used Isotope-5 or Isotope-5A based fuel products. The lower energy state of Isotope-5B makes it much more manageable as propellant.
  • Electrothermal-Chemical powder is ignited by a two stage primer tech, using a primary standard ignition primer to ignite a secondary plasma ignition primer. This two stage system is much safer than a simple standard primer while also being more reliable at getting an even ignition from the powder. Also takes advantage of using a more stable primer as the powder based fuel is also stable enough to require a plasma ignition primer to be used effectively.

STRENGTHS
  • Safer: This type of round technology is actually safer than standard bullet technology. Due to the primers' stability, and the powder's inability to be used to its full potential without the plasma primer to initiate it, the rounds are much safer. This means less accidental discharges due to extreme heat, being knocked around, or other types of hazards normally associated with ammunition for ballistic weaponry.
  • Higher Performance: This round has much more oomph behind it than standard bullet technology. Because of the new and improved propellant, the larger charge, and the ability for the round to generate higher pressures faster than standard rounds, these rounds give greater accuracy without requiring near as large barrels. This means barrels can be made to be smaller, lighter, and otherwise more compact to achieve the same if not better accuracy, precision, and lethality with rounds.

WEAKNESSES
  • More demanding: This round's propellant burns hotter, it generates more pressure, and generates much more stress on standard barrels than any rounds ever developed for conventional firearms. That means the materials used in barrel construction need to be top notch, or sturdy enough to be used as capital ship grade armor plating. Otherwise barrels will degrade at an alarming rate, if not outright fail and cause weapons to be turned into bombs.
  • Complicated: This technology has a two stage primer, a specific propellant that needs to hit a certain temperature from the initiator or it will "fizzle" causing a misfire, and is otherwise much more complicated than standard bullet technology. While normally not a problem, rounds that are improperly made, maintained, or otherwise sabotaged can either be ineffective or a liability. This ranges from casings being compromised to turn the rounds into bombs, to the internal powder in the round to not burn correctly causing it to not generate the standard pressure with the shot, causing the weapon to jam. To put it simply this round generates three times the pressure of a normal bullet, that means you need to be three times as careful with it.

DESCRIPTION
A direct innovation after the discovery of Isotope-5B, Mark II CAD comes as the new propellant base for current munitions offers a chance to bring firearms technology to the next level. This would mean faster rounds, with the ability to achieve velocities under shorter barrels in more compact weapons. This would allow for rounds to not only hit harder in close range fights, but also do more damage over longer ranges with this increased velocity and the ability to now have the energy behind heavier rounds while achieving said velocity. The first innovation was to shorten the overall round length, or increase the length of powder charge in the casing while only slightly increasing the diameter to make rounds more compact or have a much higher powder charge. This ammunition technology, known as Cased Telescopic Ammunition, gives small improvements on its own due to the ability to either make rounds more compact or give them a slightly higher powder charge.​
It would be the second technology that it was paired with however that would make the change go from a small improvement to a major leap in technology. This technology, known as Electrothermal-Chemical rounds, utilizes various fuel propellants to grant increased velocities and power generation per round as the propellant provides a much needed boost in the power generation department. This is where the discovery of Isotope-5B comes into play as being more stable than most other propellants with ETC technologies, while also generating more power makes it a no-brainer candidate for the use in the new model of Cased Ammunition. This new powder however has its own downsides, as the higher performance of the ETC propellant and larger charges of CTA rounds means that each new weapon will have to be designed accordingly to handle these new stresses. In other words, materials will have to be stronger, more heat resistant, and be able to dissipate even greater amounts of heat in order to keep the weapons able to be used by its operators.​
In short, these rounds represent the next great leap in kinetic weapons technology that are based on firearms. And this new leg up will allow said firearms to compete on the same levels of weapons using magnetic rail technology, surpass blaster technology in knockdown and killing power, and otherwise propel it into the galactic market as a new gold standard in weapons technology.​
