Capping ceremonies still fall in my scope of Board Owner duties, but I think we've missed a few. Memories' muddled. Master votes don't really come across ye ol' desk anymore. I hardly pay attention, mostly because the RPJ's are pretty good at calling out the shots when it comes to promotion. Ever since the early days of "your default answer is yes, you need a good reason for no", we've really picked up the optimistic vibe of having faith in members, and rewarding their activity and perseverance within the community.
As such, we haven't had a capping ceremony in a while. And even the last few had the members being promoted regardless, we just either wanted to hail them with recognition or I personally wanted to beat the RPJ's to the punch.
However, one such Master vote is sitting in the Staff Forum that I absolutely do not agree with how it concluded. 7 unanimous no's. Furthermore, the character's faction was very split on the decision to even submit her for Masterhood. Again, I do not agree with how it concluded. I feel very strongly about this, so I'm going to quote excerpts from the discussion to illuminate my position.
Here's from the Faction thread.
How about being the driving force behind why a major faction even exists?
Or taking on two apprentices for a Witch cult, a very niche and not popular thing to do?
Or having 3 discussions concerning her major faction active and on the front page of the Factions forum?
If that doesn't sell you, maybe the thousand posts she's attained since she's been a member will.
Or volunteering to be a Codex Judge. Etc. Etc. I could go on for days, and I've only spent the last 30 minutes researching her.
Concerning the RPJ stance, I kinda agree - but it's situational. Self-promoters usually don't get what they're asking before because they're usually not deserving of it. This isn't the case.
Not to mention the "split decision by the Faction" the RPJs are referencing... is between 4 people. 5 if you include the OP.
From a person I hardly know save one Major Faction App interaction, my initial impression is that Anja is optimistic, outgoing, intelligent, and hard-working. Atop those wonderful traits - not afraid to step up when someone needs to.
If Chaos is to have a future, people like [member="Anja Aj'Rou"] are leading it. In return for this I will fulfill your request, Anja - should you choose to accept.

That's from the RPJ's.It's a no from me.
I've seen her writing, and she's quite good, but I'm a stickler for IC story providing the means and reasoning behind gaining Master rank. Her OOC motives for the faction are admirable, but I'm also not a fan of people fishing for their own Master rank. Anytime I hear someone saying "I should be promoted / I need to be promoted" and others aren't agreeing, it means they haven't earned it yet.
Master rank vote should be unanimous amongst peers, if not at the very least a majority.
More character development. More interaction with others, more teaching of others, more mastering of her own skills through IC experiences. These are all the things I would like to see before my vote is a yes.
Here's from the Faction thread.
More in the third?I was once told that the esteemed RPJs examine three qualities in a potential Master candidate:
Of these, there is no doubt that our dear candidate more than fulfills the first two traits. However, I'd like to see more in the third. More development for the character, more growth, etc. As such, my vote is a No for the time being.
- Creativity
- Penmanship
- Motivation
Show me more and it'll be a yes. Cookies included.
