Mak's Thoughts On The 2016 Presidential Race

It's been a very long time since I've spoken about politics. On the old board I used to be at, it was a daily posting marathon on virtually every topic you could think of, one that was extremely damaging to its members and the reason why I stopped talking about it, both online and in real life.

However, after watching the debates last night, I think I need to put in my two cents.

First, with the GOP...

In 2014, I spoke about the civil war that was tearing apart the GOP due to Romney's loss and the changing political landscape on subjects such as immigration, gay rights, the economy, etc. A fight was brewing on how to stop the Democrats from taking any more victories and what to do about Obama.

The civil war has now come full circle with Donald Trump...

Donald Trump, a reality television star and businessman who seems he's going to be the Republican nominee. I saw how Fox was attacking him and how they're leveling the other three at him: Cruz, Rubio and Kasich.

Kasich isn't going to win. There's no chance he will win, but I think the GOP is going to use him for Ohio, for him to take the delegates from Trump and then have him step down.

Rubio is also being staged to take Florida from him and end that threat...

Finally, Cruz is looking to be the counterweight to stopping Trump...

Do I like Trump? No, I won't lie, but I never thought he was going to be this big. I never dreamed that he would be winning the delegate count, and this is where the problem lies...

If the convention refuses to make Trump their nominee and choose Cruz, the tens of millions of people who are going to vote for Trump will leave and vote for Trump if he runs as a third party candidate, ruining any chance the Republicans have.

If they do make Trump their nominee, you might see the GOP split in half...

Now, for the Democrats...

Hillary Clinton is edging herself to be the nominee at any chance. Her plan of agreeing with what Bernie Sanders says is having wonders and I do believe there's no plausible chance she'll be indicted for the email scandal. It will never happen, even if what she said was against the law. The Justice Department will never level charges at her.

However, she's a conniving liar and I honestly believe she's extremely dangerous. Her speeches she made to Wall Street that she refuses to show to the public have to be bad. She's a political weasel and nothing more.

Bernie Sanders is... genuine. I think that word is the best for him, but his ideas are bold, extremely bold and have a great chance of sending the US into a deeper pit.

Medicare-for-all, free college, massive infrastructure projects...

I read his plans and saw how he's going to raise taxes on many things, which includes wall street speculations, ending loopholes on corporations paying taxes, etc. to fund everything that he wants if he becomes President, but this country has over $19 trillion in debt.

How much more can it take...?

Also, I think if Clinton is made nominee, the folks who will vote for Bernie Sanders will not vote for Clinton, perhaps causing a Democratic civil war.

This election has changed the landscape. What will happen is November is anyone's guess, but the United States is going to see a massive change, no matter who is elected.

I'm neither a democrat nor republican by MA registration, though I voted for Sanders in the MA primary. He's genuine. He answers things directly and without answering a question with another question. I can't even bear watching Hillary talk. "I'll release the data when everyone else does" She flip-flops on her words and is hiding so many skeletons in that closet I can't understand how the door even closes. Trump.....There are no words. If it came to Hillary VS Cruz I'd vote for Cruz. If it becomes Hillary VS Trump, I am looking at Canada as a very serious option.

As a person, Bernie is the coolest candidate. As a politician and someone to handle money, I wouldn't trust him with the tin I keep my spare change in. His policies will inevitably lead to communism or fascism, will bankrupt the country, and ensure no one works. If the government provides welfare and food stamps whilst taking away 50%+ of a paycheck why would someone work? I disagree with Bernie and if you would like to discuss more, I'd be glad to continue, if not I'd encourage you to look into his policies. On the surface they appear great, but once you look into the details they fall apart.

I don't like talking politics with people because I feel it gets really nasty really fast, but I just wanted to say I literally hate looking at Ted Cruz. Something about his face is just really, really off-putting and I can't stand it.

He looks like he's melting.

Also as a person he's garbage.

That's all.

[member="Matsu Xiangu"] Saying ''as a person he's garbage'' and not liking his personality are two very different things. Ted seems to be a kind man, I like his personality. But at the end of the day, personalities don't matter, policies and effectiveness do.

[member="KeCholo"] Like I said, I don't want to talk politics because I don't think it's conducive to a friendly atmosphere - especially on the Internet - but we can agree to disagree wholeheartedly. I'm out of this thread like it's on fire.

will bankrupt the country
The USA is 17 trillion dollars in debt, mostly to China. Corporations run the American tax code and Hillary is bought and paid for twice over.

Don't kid yourself :) I'd rather try changing with an honest man than run down the path of more of the same. There's absolutely nothing that would change my mind on that. If it came down to Trump VS Hillary I would honestly look into immigrating to Canada.

Also, Ted Cruz ate a booger and I find that hilarious.

[member="Mak Manto"] I don't want to clog up your thread so I'll be using spoilers.

Back in 1940 there was a man named FDR who was a democratic socialist and started the united states down a path of debt. Bernie Sanders is not 'new' by any stretch. In 1940 there were more unemployed people than at the beginning of the Great Depression, what FDR was trying to fix. Bernie may very well pay for college but it will come out of the pockets of tax payers or he will inflate the dollar so high it'll take more money than it ever has to buy simple things like milk and bread. Socialism is fundamentally wrong because it teaches that a man that doesn't work can eat, America was built upon hard work and the subsequent reward. Socialism turns into communism when people stop working. Don't believe me? Let me use an example. Imagine that there are 10 people standing on a field, and there are one hundred flags on this field. 1 foot underneath the flags is a bag of gold. In the first scenario the people are given shovels and told that how ever many bags you can get to is theirs. The people will naturally work harder and faster to get to the valuables. In the second scenario, the people are told that no matter how many bags they dig up they will each get ten. What incentive is there to work? There is none. This then leads to communism where the state takes over and controls all the factories and shops, pretty much everything. They ration the food and clothing to people. I'll leave you with this quote by a founder of communism and socialism.

[member="Zef Halo"] 'a founder' not 'the founder.' As a man that practiced it in it's early days, I think he knew a good bit about it. And communism isn't dead, see Cuba, China, North Korea and Vietnam.

Let's not forget that communism has never really existed in a state-form in the first place, other than attempts by little communes.

They were all 'on the path to communism' rather than real communism. Otherwise you wouldn't even have states or 'presidents'.

Let me say this, people usually think that just because countries do things similar to how a socialist country would makes them Socialist. Three big examples of where what Bernie Sanders is proposing and works. Canada, New Zealand, Belgium. None of them are doing bad. People go overboard when they see anything as being remotely close to Socialism.

I haven't decided yet...

In 2012, I voted for Gary Johnson due to what I thought about Obama and Romney. If need be again, I'm willing to put my vote for a candidate who probably won't win due to principle. To me, it's not about who will win but who will be the best person to run this country.

I had people laugh at me for voting for Johnson, but who can say what will happen this year?
