Private Maiden Voyage

There was something comforting about hiding behind regulations. Or at least, he supposed that what it appeared he was doing to the two Jedi Masters. Truthfully, he was wary of authorizing such a dangerous mission on a whim, not without significant preparation. Yet, if the Jedi were correct, which he assumed they were, they had very little time. It would've taken weeks to fully prepare, and who was to say the Sith wouldn't fully entrench themselves during that time.

"Okay" he said to the Jedi. "We move out as soon as possible" A day or two, by the most conservative estimation.

"I can pull the Vanguard out of drydock early. The Defiance's on board security complement should be enough to fill any strategic decencies" One of the perks of his rank was his ability to circumvent regulations in pressing situations. Defending his actions here to High Command would be a simple matter, especially if the operation he and the Jedi were planning went off without a hitch. Any information collected would be invaluable.

"If you both agree, we can depart for Kuat immediately" Technically, he didn't have to be present to oversee the Defiance's shakedown cruise. If anything, he supposed Commander Genevieve could deftly navigate the struggle of scouting the ship out for any issues, technological or structural.

Valery smiled warmly at Kahlil when he nudged her forward as someone who could lead this team. A former Jedi Shadow with a lot of experience and the right people around her would definitely be one of the better options. But, for now, they were going to focus on immediate scouting, knowing there was no time to waste.

This was no easy request to make from the Admiral, she knew, but she was relieved to hear that he was very willing to work with them. If all of this somehow ended up being nothing at all, he'd be the one who would have to justify his decisions. But Valery was confident that they were onto something big, and so was Kahlil.

If anybody really understood what motivated these Sith, it was him.

"I agree. We pick up the Vanguard from drydock, and head towards the Caldera. It's known to be easier to enter than leave, so if we position here..." She leaned over the table to point around the planet Elom, somewhere near Korriban, "...we should be able to pick up on traffic there without putting ourselves directly in the line of fire." She plopped back down into her seat with a sigh, and ran a hand up through her hair.

"You think that'll be enough?" She then asked her husband.

"Depends, really, on how influential the Sith already are in that space. Elom could be safe, or it could be one of their outposts." He rubbed at his chin, glancing through the list for a moment, then glanced towards Zahara. Kahlil's fleeting experience was fairly low, all things considered. Ignoring the fact there was a fleet waiting for his return to the Sith he'd never use anyway. "It's your ships. What do you think? Worth the risk, or should we go somewhere safer? I imagine multiple jumps will pull the Sith's attention so we don't have a wide margin of error."

Elom. If he recalled correctly, during the Third Imperial Civil War Battlegroup Kenobi used the planet as a forward operations base in the viscous fight for Felucia. It was close enough, he reasoned, to Korriban to pick up on Sith communications while staying reasonably far enough away to avoid detection.

Not that the risk of detection would be a serious issue.

"The Vanguard is equipped with a variety of stealth and covert technology" He explained to the two Jedi Masters. Though the Nox-class was an older design, it was a sturdy design and had yet to fail the GADF in any regard, though its use was rare. If they had enough ships to launch missions like this on a regular basis, it could've fundamentally altered the course of the Second Great Hyperspace War, if not the Third Imperial Civil War as well. Alas, they did not and therefore were reliant upon the SIA for intelligence missions such as these.

"Elom is perfect. Although the Vanguard will be able to hide its presence, its not clear for how long or whether or not the Sith have devolped new technology" He quickly added, "Long range scans of the system and the deployment of a drone ahead of our arrival will inform us of any Sith presence at which point we can take advantage of the Vanguard's other special technology" He brough up the schematics and emphasized the special hyperdrive system it was carrying.

Valery agreed with Kahlil and turned to the Admiral to get his view on the placement of the scouting group. Valery herself knew...very little to nothing about these ships, so his expertise was going to be crucial to make this mission a success. Luckily, the Vanguard was equipped with stealth technology, allowing them to get much closer than other ships likely could.

There would still be a risk, of course, but they were prepared and it was unlikely the Sith would expose themselves by chasing after them with a significant naval fleet.

"Alright, I think we have a plan then. We go to Elom to try and listen in on the Caldera with the ship's tech." Valery smiled faintly and then looked over at her husband, "Love, maybe we can try to focus on our senses when we get close? We've picked up on a lot with how often we encountered these Sith. Especially if your father is involved somehow, and more often than not, he is." Perhaps they'd be able to see a vision or learn more, just how they learned about his operations in the core.

Either way, it was time to go.
