History

The numerous books that accompanied their daily rations became her best friends, granting the young Kazelrrian the only taste of freedom she could hope to find. From them she learned many things their creator would never teach them, and they gifted her mind with an escape to protect itself from the seemingly never ending daily struggles that were routine in their lives.

She often wondered if a mother’s embrace would resemble the warmth and protection etched into her memories from the nourishing liquid that had filled her developing tank. Despite the loneliness she’d felt within, unable to gauge the passage of time, it had been the one place in which Mahsa had truly felt safe.

Every day was a fight for their survival, and the voice that called for them—Experiment 120, Kazelrrians—through the speakers filled her with dread. Mahsa couldn’t remember ever feeling a shred of positive emotion towards the spindly Kaminoan that studied them—untouchable from far above. Perhaps it was unsurprising that most of her kin had embraced the wilder side of their natures, fueled by the flames of negative emotions that spurred them onwards to overcome every hurdle and challenge in their way.

The temptation was hard to resist, and part of her was certain she would’ve succumbed to its allure had it not been for the smallest one in their midst. She’d known of them before their lungs had taken their first breath of air, and the kinship she’d felt towards the other Kazelrrian was something Mahsa could never place into words. They’d been the first to call her Moon, and the moniker would eventually lead Mahsa towards their own chosen names. Through combined teamwork and efforts the duo managed to survive for months, but their luck eventually ran out when the anniversary of their physical birth had rolled in.

The same voice greeted them over the speakers that morning, but everything they’d endured so far paled in comparison to the monumental challenge he suddenly set before them. The Kaminoan only needed a certain amount for the next stage of his experiments, and only the strongest would be granted the opportunity to continue… What little peace had kept them all from clashing unraveled before the voice had dissipated, and the bloodbath that followed was one that Mahsa wished she could erase from her mind.

As the runt of the litter her friend became the main target, and only a handful of their kin stood in protection of their youngest member. One by one they’d fallen to the claws and tricks of their vat-siblings, until Mahsa had been the only one between them and her dear friend. A dreadful nightmare to compliment the short but cursed life they’d been born into, and the guttural cries that emanated from them as they were struck down still haunt Mahsa in her sleep.

Everything that followed is a blurred whirlwind in her memories, tinted in the same vibrant crimson shade that had coated her hands, until the amused voice over the speakers had finally called an end to the massacre…

What had stood in front of Silver had been a shell of her former self, a vessel filled with grief and despair with a vacant stare. She would’ve welcomed Death with open arms, part of her hoping to be reunited with Dara once everything came to an end, had he not stood in the way and blocked its cold embrace. His harsh words had spoken nothing but the truth, and the blood that dripped from his wounds had been no different from the one within her veins.

Little by little the Kazelrrian snapped out of her daze, learning to work in tandem with Silver as they both fought for their survival. They learned to cover for the other’s shortcomings, thrived despite the challenges and obstacles in their way, and spoke of their wants and dreams as they bonded. She began to call him Ayhan then and, despite the initial protests, he would continue to carry on this name as they and a few others were whisked into the New Jedi Order.

For the first time in her short life Mahsa felt like she belonged among their midst, the Kazelrrian quickly adapting to their new life and thriving. Ayhan is the only link to her old life that Mahsa is unwilling to sever, always keeping an eye out for the Firronthix and trying to help him in any way she can—even when he continues to push and pull away from her as time passes.

Strengths and Weaknesses

+ Selective Evolution Kazelrrian were genetically modified for specific traits, and Mahsa isn't an exception. Her amazing memory makes her a quick study, able to adapt on the fly for a myriad of situations. Claws and fangs have come useful in a pinch, and her heightened senses have saved her life on more than one occasion… and we can’t forget the boon of two livers over one.

+ Float Like a Butterfly Her lithe frame and nimble feet are boosted further thanks to her cat-like reflexes, making it hard to sense the Kazelrrian when she doesn’t want to be found. Bigger and stronger opponents will always hit harder, but only if they can actually keep up with her movements.

+ Sting Like a Bee Her aptitude makes her a natural candidate for dual wielding, and she’s embraced it wholeheartedly. Fluid motions connect one swing to the next with ease, a deadly dance for the eyes of those fortunate enough to watch but not be at the end of her blades.

+ One With the Stars There’s always been a pull, a gentle tug from the cosmos as it seemingly calls out for her and, while her body would unconsciously follow it, only recently has Mahsa learned to properly listen and wield it.

− Come Back... Please! The Force is as natural for Mahsa as being able to sense the emotions of others, especially those she’s closely bonded to, and anything that disrupts—or outright eliminates—this instinctual connection can cause great distress to the Kazelrrian.

− What Was That?! Sharp an unexpected changes to her surroundings, like increased brightness or loud sounds, can momentarily incapacitate and stun Mahsa—and she isn't a stranger to sore and pulled muscles from an instinctual reaction thanks to her heightened reflexes.

− W-Wait Up...! Her swiftness and flexibility comes at a cost, and she lacks the physical prowess to be a formidable opponent or an unmoving wall like Ayhan can be. Matter of fact is that her tank is smaller than most, and it doesn't help that Mahsa is constantly pushing its limits.

− Tempest of Emotions It's tough to keep one's thoughts organized when you're constantly sifting through new information, moreso when you're attuned to those around you. Time and training has helped establish a barrier between her own and those of others, but strong emotions can still overwhelm Mahsa—especially from those she's closest to.
