Micah comes from a family legacy that has a vast wealth of information and knowledge in sith alchemy. His grandfather Moridin, his father, his uncle Dissero, and the women of the Shamalain line are all powerful in their own rights when it comes to artifacts and their creation. At his disposal, while he is no Master Alchemist yet, he had the ability to consult the immense library of information from his father and the aid of his Uncle Dissero who himself is a Master Alchemist.
This gives him an incredible wealth of knowledge from both his Great Uncle Dissero, the journals of his grandfather (the ones his father and uncle would even let him review and highly supervised) and the knowledge given to him by his father, Soliael Devin Talith that he had acquired his entire lifetime. Micah's spent much of his time studying with his Uncle Dissero, his father, and during the times he would visit the Jedi with his mother, studied lightside alchemy classes.
This Time he desired to make items for his siblings and his friends; the female ones that is. Knowing that they kept complaining about their hair constantly getting on their face during spars, fights, while wearing helmets, scarfts, etc, Micah decided to use his knowledge of alchemy to make these so the women in his life would stop complaining. He would alchemize silver, copper, onyx, and gold for the appropriate color combinations. Their main attribute is this -- that is to keep bangs, flyaways, and any potential loose tendrils away from their face no matter what. Come sweat, movement, toil, bedhead, whatever, these alchemized imbued pins make sure that not a single stray hair will ever tickle the eyes or cause a nose to wiggle.
Although I guess in a jam, one can use a hairpin to stab at a darkside spirit and damage it because they are Force imbued.
