- Planet Name: Mahporeem
- Demonym: Mahporieem
- Region: The Outer Rim
- System Name: The Weiss System
- System Features: The Weiss System is a planetary system, with a total of 10 planets orbiting a single star known as Mahporeem Prime. Of all the planets in the system, only Mahporeem itself is actually inhabited, as it is the only planet in the system that is capable of supporting life without artificial assistance. Mahporeem has a total of three moons orbiting it: Bumos, Cessent and Tegeth. It is also surrounded by a small asteroid field, too small to be of any defensive use for the planet.
- Location: Bordering Imperial controlled space and The Ash Worlds, between Dornea, Cophrigin V, Hast and Doan.
- Major Imports: Foodstuffs, Medical Supplies, Tibanna Gas, Antiquated and Obsolete Vehicles and Starships
- Major Exports: Scrap Metal, Spare Vehicle and Starship Parts, Electronic Components
- Unexploited Resources: N/A
- Gravity: Standard
- Climate: Temperate
- Primary Terrain: Rolling Plains and Forest
- Atmosphere: Type I
- Capital City: Corrox
- Planetary Features: Much of Mahporeem is covered by massive planetary sized junkyards and salvage yards, along with many former Imperial prisons turned settlements. Huge amounts of obsolete, antiquated and decommissioned vehicles and starships litter the surface of the planet, awaiting the day that they will be taken apart and broken down for parts/scrap. Interspersed between the massive urban and industrial sprawl are the last remaining farmsteads of the native Merzoidian population. Much of Mahporeem's previously pristine environment has been ruined by the creation of these salvage yards and prison facilities. Mahporeem also has a rather sizable Podracing Circuit, as Podracing is easily among the most popular sports practiced on the planet.
Corrox
- Corrox is the capital city of Mahporeem. Formerly an Imperial Command Center, Corrox quickly took on a new role of importance after the fall of the Galactic Empire and the failure of OPERATION: CINDER, becoming the seat of power for the ruling planetary triumvirate.
- Of all of Maphoreem's former prison camps, Dangama Junction is by far the largest. It was one of the first camps to rebel against the Imperial Garrison after the fall of the Galactic Empire, and today is the second largest settlement on Mahporeem, behind Corrox.
- After the official end of hostilities between the planet's three warring factions, a massive Podracing Circuit was constructed to celebrate the planet's survival in the face of OPERATION: CINDER. The so called Mahporeem Podracing Circuit is one of the largest and most impressive tracks in all the Outer Rim, and attracts millions of visitors ever galactic year.
- The Thryopa Shipbreaking Yards are an especially impressive feat of engineering, being large enough to disassemble aging Venator-class Star Destroyers and Victory-class Star Destroyers. It is also here that many of these formerly decommissioned ships are refitted and brought back into active service, to serve Mahporeem for the foreseeable future.
- Native Species: Merzoidian.
- Immigrated Species: Humans, various other alien species
- Population: Moderate, 787 Million
- Demographics: The majority of Mahporeem's population is alien, with a small minority of humans descended from the former Imperial Garrison. After hundreds of years, the formerly imprisoned alien population has started to outnumber the native Merzoidian population.
- Primary Languages: Galactic Basic, various alien languages
- Culture: Life on Mahporeem is centered around two main activities: scrapping and salvaging. Mahporeem's junkyards are home to huge numbers of vehicles and starships, and most of the planet's population is employed in breaking them down for their parts and components. After a long day of hard work, Mahporieems enjoy engaging in any number of different activities, such as drinking Revnog at the local bar, losing credits playing Sabacc or watching the Podraces of the Mahporeem Racing Circuit. As Mahporeem was once an Imperial Prison Planet, it is home to countless numbers of different alien species each with their own ideas, traditions, customs and languages. That being said, the community of salvagers and scrappers is strong on the planet. A small human minority, descended from the previous Imperial Garrison, provide most of Mahporeem's planetary security, though aliens are permitted to join due to the extensive lack of available human manpower.
- Government: Planetary Triumvirate
- Affiliation: Currently independent, but likely to join The Imperial Confederation
- Wealth: Low. Though Mahporeem has a wealth of salvageable vehicles and starships just waiting to be taken apart, it has little else to offer the galaxy. As such, the planet is relatively poor but fairly self sustaining, as long as its junkyards continue to provide resources for the planet and its people.
- Stability: Medium. Generally speaking, Mahporeem is relatively safe to visit, as the local population is quite accommodating to friends and strangers alike. However, tensions do arise between the three main planetary groups: The descendants of the Imperial Garrison, the descendants of the formerly enslaved alien population and the native Merzoidian population.
- Freedom & Oppression: Technically, the ruling Triumvirate is supposed to ensure equity between Mahporeem's main inhabitants. One member must be an Imperial, one member a formerly enslaved alien prisoner, and the last a Merzoidian. However, the Imperial faction exerts unequal authority over the other two, due to having most of Mahporeem's military assets. This is especially pressing due to the fact that many aliens have officially joined the Military. As such, many of the rules and edicts issued by the ruling council are rather authoritarian in nature, and propaganda and censorship are rife on the planet. It is likely that the planet will be joining the Imperial Confederation in the near future, only adding to its already draconian policies.
- Military: Mahporeem is heavily militarized due to its housing a large of a large Imperial Garrison. This garrison was designed to the planet's many prison facilities. In addition, the Remnant has access to a wealth of vehicles and starships from different eras and factions, due to its function as a massive planetary junkyard and salvage yard.
- Technology: Generally galactic standard, though antiquated designs do show up rather frequently.
Mahporeem is a planet located on the very edge of the Outer Rim. For much of its history, Mahporeem existed in isolation from the galaxy, until it was invaded and conquered by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Forced to call upon the Galactic Republic for military assistance, Mahporeem waged a long and bloody conflict to reclaim its independence from the invading droid forces, only to be betrayed and annexed by its supposed Clone allies.
Much of Mahporeem is dominated by rolling plains and extensive forest cover. For most of its existence, Mahporeem has been a primarily agricultural world, famous for the fruits and vegetables grown by the native Merzod people. However, during the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, much of Mahporeem was transformed by the construction of spaceports, scrap yards and industrial centers, turning the world into one of the most important Junk Planets in the Outer Rim.
High Republic Era
- During the reign of the Galactic Republic, Mahporeem would spend most of its existence in isolation, though both Mahporeem and the Galactic Republic were aware of each other's existence. Mahporeem's great distance from the Deep Core and lack of strategic resources made its membership into the Galactic Republic a rather low priority, while the independently minded Merzod people refused to accept orders from an organization so far away from their home planet. However, Mahporeem did develop a thriving tourist industry catering to rich clients from Coruscant and other heavily industrialized worlds, as they sought to "get away from it all" by discovering the local culture and cuisine of Mahporeem.
- Unfortunately, this peaceful existence would not last as Mahporeem found itself invaded by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The reason for this invasion had nothing to do with Mahporeem's people or resources, but rather the planet's isolation. Being so far away from the Deep Core, coupled with Mahporeem's refusal to become involved in the Galactic Republic, meant that the CIS could set up droid producing factories far away from prying eyes, allowing them to construct an army capable of conquering the known galaxy without having to worry about the concerns of other individuals.
- Luckily, the Merzod people refused to accept this occupation without a fight. Several high ranking Merzoidian officials managed to hijack a Neimoidian escort shuttle and were able to pilot it to Republic controlled space, where they begged and pleaded for Republic assistance. Loath to allow the CIS an opportunity to create more Battle Droids, the Republic agreed to assist the Merzoidians, and quickly sent an army to liberate the planet.
- Thus began a years-long conflict between the Republic, the CIS and the local Merzod population, as each faction battled it out for control of the planet. Eventually, as the Clone Wars reached its tragic conclusion, the combined Republic and Merzod army was able to defeat the occupying CIS forces, removing them from the plane once and for all.
- For Mahporeem, the end of the Clone Wars would only bring additional suffering as the newly formed Galactic Empire turned on its Merzod allies, annexing the entire planet in the process. Desperate to reclaim their independence once and for all, the Merzod people attempted to rebel against their new occupiers by reactivating the remaining battle droids still left on the planet, only to be brutally suppressed and enslaved.
- During the Clone Wars, huge parts of Mahporeem had been transformed by both the Republic and CIS, as each faction attempted to gain the upper hand over each other. Sprawling scrapyards, towering spaceports and massive industrial centers soon spread across the once pristine planet, and this process only accelerated under the tutelage of the Galactic Empire.
- The Empire would transform Mahporeem into a Junk Planet, bringing thousands of obsolete vehicles and starships to be processed for parts. Armored Assault Tanks, AT-TEs, Juggernauts and even Venator-Class Star Destroyers could all be found scattered across the planet, each awaiting eventual disassembly or refurbishment for the Empire's numerous client planets and allies.
- Besides its scrapyards, Mahporeem would also become infamous for its many labor and dissident camps, where enemies of the Empire would wind up for any number of minor infractions. These political prisoners would be forced to labor alongside the enslaved Merzoidians, scrapping and salvaging parts for the Empire's war machine. Aliens and humans alike worked tirelessly for the Empire, forced against their will to serve a regime that had tried to fight against.
- The Rebellion, of course, was aware of Mahporeem's existence and importance, and mounted dozens of raids against the occupying Imperial forces during the course of the Galactic Civil War. These raids attempted to steal vehicles and rescue prisoners for the Rebellion, although more often than not, they would end in failure. Rebel and Imperial wrecks would litter the space around Mahporeem for decades and centuries to come.
- With Emperor Palpatine's death and the Destruction of the Second Death Star at the Battle of Endor, Imperial authority began to wane almost immediately as the galaxy at large began to openly rebel against the remaining Imperial forces.
- Concerned for their Deep Core and Mid Rim holdings, much of the Imperial Fleet made a hasty retreat toward Coruscant, leaving planets like Mahporeem to essentially fend for themselves.
- With a much reduced fleet presence over his planet, Imperial Governor Allfred Fonetar moved to immediately suppress all news of the Emperor's demise, though news of the Emperor's defeat had inevitably made its way to Mahporeem. Within hours, most of the planet was engaged in open warfare against the remaining Imperial garrison.
- Fighting would go on for weeks, until the arrival of a new Imperial fleet above the planet. Governor Fonetar, confident that the arriving fleet was there to reinforce him, took a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle to meet them, only to be nearly shot down in the process.
- Unbeknownst to both the Imperials and the rebelling prisoners, the arriving Imperial Fleet was part of OPERATION: CINDER, an Imperial contingency plan that aimed to punish both Rebel and Loyalist worlds alike for the destruction of the Empire. Mahporeem was of particular importance to this plan, as its large stockpile of vehicles could prove a threat to the reestablishment of the Empire, to say nothing of the huge numbers of dissidents imprisoned on the planet.
- The hostile Imperial Fleet began bombarding the planet as they deployed Climate Disruption Array satellites, with the intention of eradicating all life on Mahporeem. Governor Fonetar ordered his forces to engage the enemy Imperial Fleet, but quickly realized he lacked the manpower necessary to drive them off. Desperate to prevent the destruction of his planet, Fonetar called for an immediate ceasefire with the rebel forces, who agreed to assist him in driving off the enemy fleet in exchange for serious post-war concessions after the fighting had concluded.
- And so, a combined Imperial, Rebel and Merzod fleet was created to defeat the enemy Imperial Fleet once and for all. After several hours of heavy fighting and serious losses on all sides, the allied fleet was victorious, and the Emperor's contingency plan had failed to destroy the planet.
- Governor Fonetar was then forced to accept major concessions on the part of the Rebel and Merzoidians, as his own forces had been decimated in the defense of the planet. Such concessions included:
-An immediate end to all slavery on Mahporeem
-The right for nonhumans to become a part of the Mahporeem Stormtrooper Corps
-Citizenship for all the inhabitants of Mahporeem, regardless of species or affiliation
-Vastly reduced tax rates for the newly freed citizens of Mahporeem
-A three man council, made up of one Imperial representative, one Merziodian representative and one formerly imprisoned Alien representative. Each representative would be given an equal vote on matters involving the governing of Mahporeem.
- With the agreement to these concessions came the official end of hostilities on Mahporeem, allowing the planet to begin the long and costly process of rebuilding itself. Betrayed by the Empire and seemingly abandoned by the fledgling New Republic, Mahporeem decided to declare its independence, and set about rebuilding its military so that it might be able to defend itself against any and all outside threats.
- Though the army had a considerable stockpile of Imperial vehicles from the days of the Galactic Empire, they also decided to reactivate many of the mothballed vehicles from the Clone Wars, integrating them into their own armed forces. For their naval assets, the remaining small but potent Imperial Fleet was supplemented with reclaimed TIE "Uglies" and recommissioned Venator-class Star Destroyers, as many ships had either fled the system or had been destroyed during the defense of the planet.
- For hundreds of years, Mahporeem once again existed in relative isolation to the galaxy, doing only limited amounts of business for items it absolutely required. However, as the years went by, Mahporeem's seemingly inexhaustible scrapyards began running low on vehicles and starships, as they were cannibalized more and more to keep Mahporeem's military in functioning order. It was finally decided that Mahporeem would have to reopen itself to the galaxy at large, once and for all...
