STRENGTHS
Line of Battle Ship: The Lictor II, while technically classed as a Heavy Cruiser, is heavily armed and armored. With adequate support it is able to give and take punishment from ships larger than itself and would not need to shy away from engaging Star Destroyers.
Advanced SLAM Capability: The PGEM-VOID Engine Arrays allow the vessel's engines and powerplant to Operate in standard mode or in Boost Mode where the vessel's speed rating is increased by +1, or Agility Mode which increases the vessel's maneuverability rating by +1.
Semi-Automated: The benefits of being semi-automated are that the ship requires a smaller crew which reduces logistical, operational and maintenance burdens for the crew allowing for longer less stressful deployments. Automation also reduces the processing and response time needed to react and counter threats during hostilities while still enabling human command, control and oversight.
Redundant Systems: Not only does the ship have thick armor and robust shields, its design allows it to be easily compartmentalized by blast doors and bulkheads so even if sections of the ship are heavily damaged and compromised, they are able to be sealed off enabling the ship to continue operations. Almost every system has at least one back-up system and critical components have two or even three.
WEAKNESSES
Limited Firing Arcs: The Lictor II is long and tall but relatively thin for its size. Therefore, most of its gunnery stations are located along its side leaving its front and rear arcs less well able to bring significant amounts of fire to bear within these firing arcs. Additionally, having the majority of its heavy weapons batteries orientated to either the port or starboard side effectively halves the volume of fire it can concentrate in one direction.
SLAM Drawbacks: There are drawbacks to shunting power via SLAM capabilities. When Boost Mode is engaged the vessel's maneuverability rating is reduced by -1 and when in Agility Mode the vessel's speed is reduced by -1. Engaging the system is also taxing on the power system which will eventually overheat if the SLAM system is engaged for too long a time.
Limited Squadron Support: The one area the Lictor II does not punch above its weight is in its ability to field supporting starfighters. With a compliment of 2-Fighter and 1-Support squadrons its hanger capacity is low compared to its peers leaving it partially reliant on supporting craft for comprehensive fighter screening during fleet engagements.
Automation: To reduce crew numbers and workload many of the secondary and tertiary ships systems are partially automated resulting in a vulnerability to Ion-based weaponry. If the shields were to be overcome the ship's operations would be susceptible to disruption from energy-based weapons.
DESCRIPTION
The original Lictor, or Mandalorian, class dungeon ship, was a versatile warship and mobile prison based on a design first used around 4000 BBY and continuing in service for almost 4000 years before fading from use. Yet after almost a century of obscurity and with the return of an independent Mandalorian polity, interest in the old but versatile ship was rekindled.
The Boffins at Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics poured over the old blueprints and semantics of the old Dungeon Ship and came up with a new and improved design that combined the advantageous elements of the original design with a comprehensive re-engineering of the various systems to bring the capabilities of the new ship up to modern standards expected of a front-line capitol ship. The original concept of the Lictor was for use as a prison rather than a combat ship but the new Lictor II Dungeon Ship, as the new model was called, was engineered to be a heavily armed and armored front-line brawler. A core ship upon which elements of the fleet would deploy around and fight alongside. Although its prisoner holding capacity was drastically reduced to facilitate the additional combat systems and it no longer functions as a dedicated Prison Ship, the old nomenclature of 'Dungeon Ship' was retained in homage to its long heritage. Like the Keldable Class Heavy Cruiser the Lictor II is also sometimes colloquially referred to as a Battleship.
Already a well armored design, the Lictor-II has been up-armored even further and it has also been significantly up-gunned with the addition of a formidable complement of heavy weapons. First and foremost are the bow mounted triple revolving Agrocite Heavy Turbolaser Cannons. The destructive power of Agrocite cannons is well known but have several drawbacks. They are slow firing, produce massive amounts of heat which require time and augmented cooling systems to disperse and are cumbersome to aim making it difficult to consistently hit maneuverable craft under Frigate size. MDL has mitigated some of these problems by designing a three barreled rotary system where each barrel fires in turn allowing time for the generated heat to dissipate and enabling an increased rate of sustained fire. An interesting fact of the design is that the barrels of the cannon do not rotate as it is the breech loading mechanism that does the revolving as it rotates to fire the individual barrels something akin to a fire linked system. This arrangement allows the Lictor-II to engage the enemy battleline with these destructive cannons as it advances and once it breaks the enemy line and enters close quarters combat it is able to engage targets on both flanks with concentrated turbolaser fire from the numerous guns along its side allowing it to cleave into the enemy formation allowing supporting ships to advance and engage.
The geometry of the ship's hull is basically an elongated rectangle which is a structurally ridged shape allowing for thick effective armor and a large internal volume for the ship's expanded systems and weaponry. The bridge structure has been enlarged and modified to include the capability to act as a flagship with the increased personnel, scanners and communications equipment that such a modification entails and there is ample room for crew, passengers and embarked troops with the space for the stores and cargo to keep the vessel supplied for up to two years. The total length of the Lictor-II has been lengthened by about 36 meters to increase capacity and provide space for the upgraded power and propulsion units. For redundancy the power is supplied by two Maji Ironworks Multi-Fuel Fission Reactors in two separate shielded compartments The reactors are an older but reliable design capable of generating the copious power needed to meet the significant demands the ships power requirements. It is equipped with a pair of large licensed built Creveld-4 Radial Ion Drives and four subsidiary PGEM-VOID Ion Engines that provide basic SLAM technology thereby extending the speed and agility envelops of the vessel.
The ships fighter contingent is light for a ship of its class consisting of a modest two squadrons, normally consisting of 40 M5-A Scyk or Starviper Attack platforms but it could operate any fighter commonly fielded by the Mandalorian Empire. One squadron of support craft mostly logistic shuttles or drop ships depending on the mission can also be carried. And six of its standard escape pods have been replaced by MDL Maxi-Pods allowing the vessel added flexibility for boarding and non-combat logistics.
This class of ship provides Mandalorian Imperial and Clan forces with a formidable asset in a comparatively small sized package with moderate crew requirements and maintenance costs. The downside is that, because Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics is a much smaller company that behemoths like Kuat Drive yards, Mon Calamari Shipyards or the Corellian Engineering Corporation, they are unable to be built in large quantities and without the larger firms economies of scale these ships are relatively more expensive to construct with the Lictor-II being almost double the cost of the, arguably less capable, Victory-1 Star Destroyer.
The Lictor-II Dungeon Ship may not become the backbone of the Mandalorian Fleet but it can serve honorably as a specialist brawler and flagship for smaller fleets.
