SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Zero-G Specialist: While the droid can float around on repulsorlifts in standard gravity settings and work perfectly fine, the Mechanicus is designed to work particularly well in zero-G environments. A number of microthrusters allow the Mechanicus to swiftly and precisely jet around outside of starships to perform in-flight repairs. Because its microthrusters aren't typically powerful enough to keep up with all but the slowest starships, it usually anchors itself to its target craft with its tractor beam. A durable chassis and light-duty deflector shields protect it against most common spaceborne threats, such as orbital debris and errant laser cannon bolts.
  • Mechanic: Mechanicus is primarily designed to work as a repair droid, with a host of tools as well as an extensive repair database to help guide its actions. By default, the Mechanicus's repair database is focused on providing general hasty repairs and basic maintenance for hundreds of common craft. However, the droid can easily accept a number of knowledge cartridges to make it especially effective at performing a certain type of task or knowing the ins and outs of a very specific model of starfighter. The Mechanicus is even theoretically capable of assembling some starfighters on its own with the right knowledge cartridges. While designed as a repair droid, some have been programmed through updates to the repair database or through knowledge cartridge choices to act as dedicated starship modders or as part of a starship construction line. The droid is small enough (being around the size of a BB-series astromech) that it can be deployed as a drone in a manner similar to the old R-UR4 to help support starfighters and other small craft engaged in combat.
  • Saboteur: The same knowledge, skills, and tools that make the Mechanicus such an effective repair droid can also be used to make it a dastardly saboteur - it all depends on the motivation or orders given to it. Consequently, it can be deployed in a manner similar to the classic pistoeka sabotage droid, where it attempts to anchor itself to an opposing starship before starting to take it apart piece by piece or using its tools in more devious manner. Common sabotage tactics include welding moveable control surfaces together (such as s-foils, weapons turrets, airlocks, etc), obscuring visual observation through cockpit windows by covering it animated metal sealant, and plugging up weapons with animated metal sealant. The droids tend to be obnoxious to get rid of as saboteurs because of their relatively good shielding.
  • Knowledge Cartridge Input Slots: A back panel of the droid conceals of a panel of knowledge cartridge slots. This allows the Erutor to receive immediate, additional knowledge on certain subjects that they might not have experience, but which is necessary for their role. Typically these cartridges contain information on starship classes that they are assigned to work on or specific subsystems to which they are assigned to on larger starships.
STRENGTHS
  • Mechanic: Mechanicus is a fairly competent starship repairer, modder, and constructor depending on its configuration between its variety of tools and information system architecture.
  • Saboteur: Mechanicus can act as a saboteur, giving it some offensive usefulness unlike most repair droids.
  • Durable: Mechanicus is pretty durable, having both thick armor plating as well as shielding which protect both it and the patient from both the environment and against many weapons.

WEAKNESSES
  • Size Limited Supply: Mechanicus's small size means that its tools and supplies onboard are fairly limited to either relatively light work over a long period of time for maintenance purposes or very brief, intensive repair work.
  • Poor Direct combatant: Mechanicus has no direct-fire weapons and is not designed to actively fight in any sort of conventional manner
DESCRIPTION
Repair droids are common in the galaxy that they frequently overlooked and ignored by many spacers, yet there are times when they are not simply a convenience, but a necessity to survive. While astromechs serve this role for many spacers, there are times when a focus on more intensive repairs at the cost of less general functionality are worthwhile. The Mechanicus is one such droid.

Roughly the size of a BB-series astromech, nearly every cubic centimeter within the Mechanicus's chassis is dedicated to starship repair and modification in some form or fashion, whether its reserviors of animated metal sealant to quickly seal hull breaches or its versatile multi-tool or its extensive repair database memory banks. There are few such jobs that a properly programmed Mechanicus cannot do. And for independent operators, that programming is made extremely simple through the use of easily interchangeable knowledge cannisters.

Mechanicus droids were designed to be primarily stationed on starships to provide in-flight repairs. On larger starships, they are often found in reasonably large numbers in droid bays alongside astromechs and other labor droids. However, because of their small size, they can also be found in the ordnance bays of many starfighters and other small craft, from which they can be deployed to easily patch up or sabotage small craft in the middle of dogfights. However, after introduction into the market, the Mechanicus has also to more stationary jobs, such as helping assemble starships in orbital shipyards or modding starships in starport facilities.
