SETTING INFORMATION
Space Station Name: Kwenn Station
Station Model: x
Classification: Supply Depot and Refueling Station
Location: Orbiting Kwenn
Affiliation: Hutt Space Consortium
Population: Crowded
Demographics: 324,000 residents (44% Humans, 3% Hutts, 53% Other), 50,000-200,000 pilots, tourists, and temporary occupants
Accessibility: One of the last hyperlane stops for refueling and refitting starships heading out into the Outer Rim.
Traffic: High
Description: Spinning in a geosynchronous orbit around the planet Kwenn, this supply depot is among the last major ports of call before starships voyage out into the Outer Rim. It sees a significant amount of traffic from merchant ships and even military vessels that might need refueling and repairs. While it has existed for thousands of years, and various portions of the station have been retrofitted or removed, it still retains a distinctive three-tiered appearance. It is visibly obvious where the newest additions or repairs to the station have been completed as its usual green-brown oxidized will abruptly end at certain points in shiny chrome sheets of factory-fresh metal, giving the station a mottled appearance.

At three kilometers in circumference, it is the largest station along the Ootmian Pabol hyperlane and offers a wide range of services from dry dock repairs and storage facilities to high-class entertainment and secret smuggler shadowports.

POINTS OF INTEREST

T I E R - I
  • MIRRSTEEL HEIGHTS -atop the station are a series of dazzling spires and towers, jutting up from the station’s upper hull like a series of trees. These luxury towers cater to the upper class. The residential spires contain lavish millionaire penthouses, while the entertainment towers are home to casinos, clothiers, opera houses, spas, recreational centers, and upscale cantinas. Hundreds of corporations also possess towers in the business sector, including Ubrikkian Industries and KrupX Munitions.
    • MIRRSTEEL GRANDE OPERA HOUSE - Located in the Center West Tower, this opera house has existed for hundreds of years and puts on the latest in Core World opera as well as traditional ballet recitals, such as those put on by the Mon Calamari.
    • KLAGG'S CANTINA - this cantina was established by a Gamorrean poet and has an open mic night every fifth day of the week. It is a popular spot for regime dissidents, which, due to its location, often means the youthful scions of wealthy tibanna barons, trade tycoons, and crime lords. The Family is often known to use this as a meeting location.
    • SILVER SPRINGS SPA - an artificial hot springs that is also located in the Center West Tower, this spa is often the destination for clandestine meetings given the strict “no weapons” policy and the disrobed state of the patrons.
    • VELOUR HAUTE COUTURE - a clothier that specializes in producing bespoke suits and dresses, particularly with an eye toward the discerning customer who might want something more… tactical.
    • REGULATOR H.Q. - the Regulators operate out of an entire spire that is solely devoted to their use in policing the station below.

T I E R - I I

  • KWENN CENTRAL Known as the “clamshell” due to its appearance, Kwenn Central City sits beneath the spires of Mirrsteel Heights. The exterior of the second tier hosts docking ports, refueling stations, repair depots, chop shops, cargo facilities, and hidden shadow port, while the interior is so crammed with food stalls, bars, hotels, casinos, shops, and slumlord apartments that the denizens of the station have to fight for every centimeter of space. Central is old. Very old. The corridors are greasy and crowded. Coolant leaks from the ceiling and walls, leaving dried stains. Garbage litters the interior corridors and broken starship parts the exterior halls. Whether a turbolift works or not on a given day is a toss of the coin. And the overtaxed air scrubbers cannot keep the stench of thousands of people jammed together from lingering in the warm, stale, recycled air. Kwenn Central is an old, grimy, rundown city, with thousands coming and going every week.
    • TALLIFAX INN - this ancient inn and pub becomes packed to the gills whenever a huttball or smashball game is on. It is a popular spot for smugglers and freighter pilots.
    • OOTMIAN MUSEUM - Once upon a time, Coruscant University sent a team of xenoarchaeologists to study Kwenn station, which many historians believe predates the Hutt-Xim conflict. However, the museum lost its funding long ago. Now, the Ootmian Museum sits crammed into a narrow space between a hotel and a casino. Despite this, the current curator is still intent on filling out the museum’s display cases and will pay handsomely for any artifacts recovered within the station’s core.
    • KARKCREEK SHADOWPORT - Reachable only by navigating through a now defunct garbage chute on the exterior of the station, Karkcreek is a hidden port known and used primarily by members of the Exchange.
    • NARBO'S SALVAGE YARD - Run by Yuhj Narbo, an Aqualish with Bareesh Kajidic ties, this scrap yard is beyond cluttered, but it turns a pretty credit by buying and selling junk to the dry docks below. He is also known to perform small-scale illegal starship modifications for the right price.
    • HUNTER LODGE - Above a seedy casino and bar sits a lodge for bounty hunters. It is gross, there's a bug infestation, and the lights flicker on and off, but it's somewhere for Bounty Hunters to call home. There is a strict no hunting other hunters policy inside the lodge. Bounty holos line the walls. And there's a room with cots for hunters to crash. The bartender below the lodge is also a blackmarket gun dealer, running it out of the back of the bar and will give discounts to hunters.
    • DATA CENTER - A shadowy data center sits at the end of one of the many corridors of Central City, converted from a power center that had fallen out of use fifty years ago, providing a secure network running dedata net for all those who seek to use more secure channels.

T I E R - I I I
  • DRY DOCKS - below the station sits the hexagonal latticework of the dry docks, comprised of three enormous docks run by Ubrikkian Industries. Each are capable of housing an entire star destroyer, or luxury liner, and are full-service. While some of the berths are nominally utilized for secretive R&D by Ubrikkian Industries, many of the engineers are on the take from the Bareesh Kajidic and therefore offer large, illegal capital-ship grade modifications.

SECURITY: Low

The Crime Lords of the Consortium saw to it that their repair of Kwenn station by their shell companies led to the installment of heavy defense batteries, from anti-starfightet point defense lasers to octuple barbette turbolasers. No expense was spared to provide for the defense of the station, which leads to a lot of grumbling inside the station when they can barely get a turbolift to work on a given day of the week.

The interior security of the station, however, could not simply be run by one syndicate or another. Consequently, the crime lords turned to the Interstellar Regulators, a neutral mercenary group who specialized in the long term protection of cities and stations. While funded on paper by the planetary government of Kwenn, the Regulators are meant to be a neutral police force on the station to ensure that the peace is kept between the wide variety of criminal syndicates who do business on the station.

Naturally, this has led to many syndicates seeking to infiltrate the Regulators to get an upper hand on their competition. Consequently, the ranks of the Regulators are rife with corruption ranging from bribery and racketeering to outright kidnapping and murder. The leader of the Regulators, known by the ancient title Warhound, knows not to press their luck too far in one direction or another, lest the syndicates decide they were better off without them. Therefore, despite their reputation for corruption, the Regulators do tend to be an unbiased party in disputes, as their own personal well being depends on it.

There are several thousand Regulators on the station.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

For 400 years, Kwenn station lay listless and deserted, its population savaged by the Gulag plague. As the galactic civilizations re-emerged, so too did Kwenn station. Yet the hardships did not end and the station has changed hands dozens of times in the post-plague years, from the Hutt cartels to the Commenor Systems Alliance.

Over thirty years ago, an immense chunk of the dry docks were torn away when a group of criminals known as the Cabal jumped an Immortal-class dreadnought into hyperspace while it was still docked. However, the Cabal’s criminal entities eventually returned and through more legitimate business enterprises managed to take over and repair much of the station.

That all evaporated when the Bryn’adul came.

The Bryn’adul extermination war left Kwenn station in shambles. For thirty years, virtually no traffic passed through it except refugees and military patrols. Why would anyone have business in an Outer Rim set ablaze by the terraforming of the Bryn’adul’s sulfuric rage?

Eventually, Bryn’adul threat was destroyed. In their wake came crime lords once again, who exterminated Bryn’adul war bands remaining in the lower parts of the station, repaired the docks, and once more returned the depot to a galactic commercial pit stop. Behind the scenes, it has become the gathering place for the heads of the criminal syndicates who call themselves the Consortium of Hutt Space.

Under Review Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt

Great to see the Hutts getting back to what they do best after that nasty lobster genocide business. I love the detail you put into the Points of Interest! Just a couple of quick things before I approve this.

  • In Location, please provide a link to Kwenn.

  • This one is more of a question (Kwenn-stion?). If "the ranks of the Regulators are rife with corruption ranging from bribery and racketeering to outright kidnapping and murder", is security really Maximum? Sounds to me like the station, though not a lawless place, is a place where the law is pretty subjective. You probably wouldn't get mugged (or kidnapped for organ harvesting) in a place with a Maximum security rating, but it sounds like that could absolutely happen on Kwenn Station if people bribe the right Regulators. I'd consider lowering this rating to reflect that this is a crime den, not a well-patrolled military base.
