Name: Kral Yılan
Designation: Non-Sentient
Homeworld: Panatha
Language: None
Average height of adults: Average length for adults is documented to be between 24 ft (7.3m) to 28 ft (8.5m)
Skin color: Light to dark green scales, sometimes blotched with patterns or smooth and pattern-less
Hair color: Plumage is typically a dark red to light orange color
Breathes: Type I

Strengths:
  • Powerful Coils: Like the average constrictor, the Kral Yılan used it's immense size and powerful muscles to entangle and then constrict it's prey until death. Such immense strength has been known to crush bones and rupture internal organs, leading to a prolonged and agonizing death for whomever is unlucky enough to be caught within the creature's embrace.
  • Sharp Fangs: The fangs of the Kral Yılan are like daggers, easily piercing flesh and tough hide. They also curve backwards into the mouth and are serrated, enabling that whatever the Kral Yılan bites doesn't get away so easily, and if they do they're liable to bleed to death from the wounds alone.
Weaknesses:
  • Large Size: While being one of it's greatest strengths, it's large size can also be a weakness. It cannot enter small enclosures and can be overwhelmed by much smaller creatures if teamed up on.
  • Cold Blooded: Being a cold-blooded serpent, the Kral Yılan cannot survive for long in colder temperatures and thus avoids the higher mountain altitudes (which frequently get snowfall yearly) and sticks to the much warmer jungles, marshes, and grassy foothills. Subject it to enough cold temperature and it'll quickly perish.
  • Wings: Eons ago the species benefited from the pair of feather wings that sprouted from it's back to glide across long distances to hunt for prey, but the wings have been rendered vestigial somewhere during the course of evolution and can be considered a burden to the animal (if the feathers get wet they can weigh down the already large predator).

Distinctions: Bulky serpentine body with thick wings that jut out from it's upper back and are covered in layers of thick feathers that allow for the creature to glide through the air. Feathers also sprout from it's upper back (along the spinal ridge) and from the top of it's head. A pair of horns also jut out from the skull and lightly curve backwards. It's varying shades of green scales allow it to blend into it's jungle habitat, although the often brightly colored feathers can sometimes give it away if you know what to look for.

Average Lifespan: Longest known subject lived up to roughly thirty years, but they are generally known to live for roughly 15-16 years on average.
Races: None.
Estimated Population: They originate on the jungle world of Panatha, but they have been captured and sold off to collectors and some have escaped into the wild on various tropical planets around the galaxy.
Diet: Kral Yılan are pure carnivores, and will generally eat whatever they can wrap their coils around. They can survive for several weeks or months off of one meal depending on it's size, although female pregnant Kral Yılan tend to hunt more often and eat more than their male counterparts.
Communication:
  • Pheromones
  • Hissing/Growling
Culture: They're non-sentient, what culture?
Technology level: They've developed advanced laser weapons, the end comes for us all! They're snakes, they don't have technology.

General behavior: Kral Yılan are mainly nocturnal rainforest dwellers. When young, they are equally at home on the ground and in trees, but as they gain girth, they tend to restrict most of their movements to the ground. However; Kral Yılan spend the majority of their time hidden in the underbrush. Kral Yılan breed in the early spring season, with females laying clutches of 12–36 eggs several months later. They remain with the eggs until they hatch, wrapping around them and twitching their muscles in such a way as to raise the ambient temperature around the eggs by several degrees. Once the hatchlings use their egg tooth to cut their way out of their eggs, no further maternal care is given. The newly hatched often remain inside their eggs until they are ready to complete their first shedding of skin, after which they hunt for their first meal.

The Kral Yılan's wings will become fully developed over the course of at most two years, and will allow the juvenile to travel over long distances by way of gliding from tree to tree or over treeless expanses. The young predators will make great use of their winged appendages to spread far and wide over the jungles of Panatha, using them to great effect when hunting small lizards or birds (and even their fellow young sometimes). However; they tend to steer clear of any adult Kral Yılan as the adults are not above eating their young for a quick meal, although generally they will ignore their younger counterparts and track down larger game. As the Kral Yılan ages and grows in size it's wings will not be able to support it's bulk, and thus effectively will become useless as the snake adapts to ambushing it's prey from the undergrowth.

History: The ancient Epicanthix have fought Kral Yılan for as long as anyone can remember, and the species became a pivotal part of their culture and religion (one of their central deities taking on the form of the winged serpent). Over time the Epicanthix learned to capture and tame the massive creatures as weapons of war, and occasionally the high nobility have used them as pets. Eventually members of the Kral Yılan were sold off to exotic collectors and were featured in various zoos and private collections across the galaxy, with some eventually escaping their captivity to invade the native warm climates. Even today Kral Yılan are still owned by the wealthy nobility, and still hold a place in the Panathan Military. The creatures, trained from birth, are used as shock troopers alongside elite Epicanthix infantry and cavalry to break through enemy defenses with extreme speed and lethality.

However; the use of the Kral Yılan as a beast of war had diminished over the centuries as they were replaced by mechanized infantry, droids, and generally superior tools of warfare. Now they're primarily used as an exotic (and potentially dangerous) pet to Epicanthix noblemen, crime gangsters, and anyone else with the courage and coffers to own such a beast.

So just need some clarification first off, in the strengths section under wings you say they will sometimes glide from the rocky areas in the mountains, but then state in the cold blooded weakness they prefer to stay in the jungle or marshes. Can you provide a bit more insight on that?

An accidental contradiction on my part, and I have edited thusly.

  • Wings: While not evolutionarily designed to grant the species prolonged flight, the wings can, however; allow the species to glide for long distances through the upper jungle environment or from the rocky and grassy inclines of the temperate foothills that border the divide between the jungles and the snow-capped mountains, allowing it to travel far and wide when looking for food.

Weaknesses:
  • Water: Unlike it's more water-friendly cousins on Panatha, the Kral Yılan avoids water as much as it can. If it's wings get wet, it weighs it down significantly and prevents it from gliding until the feathers dry.

Thanks, and apologies for the delay what with Halloween and all, so only other things are just some questions and/or additions
  • How do the largest of the species glide through the jungle trees, as it might be a little hard for 7 meter snake to glide in thick foliage?
  • How do the newborns have sufficient flight capabilities to spread out when their wings wouldn't be developed enough?
  • In what way were they used for war? And are they still utilized in some way?
