Kosei Renard was born on the city-planet of Metellos, which was known for its industrial and technological advancements. He was the descendant of Amarans, fox-like humanoids known throughout the Galaxy as traders and beast-tamers. Kosei's lineage was the former, making a comfortable life as starship parts sellers.
Yet, the young vulpine had aspirations beyond being a mere salesman. Kosei grew up idolizing pilots, such as Wedge Antilles and Biggs Darklighter, and spent most of his childhood tinkering with old ships that customers would bring jn. He one day dreamed of flying his own starfighter. His father was a skilled volunteer pilot in the Metellos Defense Force, and Kosei was proud of his father's service to their planet.
However, Kosei's peaceful life was disrupted when the Maw invaded Metellos. Kosei, his mother, and his younger siblings were forced to flee the planet and take refuge elsewhere. Yet, his father was deployed during the battle, and did so to help his family have a fighting chance to escape. Unfortunately, his father was killed during the battle.
The loss of his father was a devastating blow for Kosei, but it also fueled his desire to become a pilot and defend the galaxy against those who would seek to harm it. He joined the Galactic Alliance's Starfighter Corps, a branch of the military dedicated to defending Alliance Space. He does not want anyone to feel the same pain as he did.
Fresh out of the Academy, Kosei now flies an X-Wing on behalf of the Alliance. While still in his youth, he hopes to one day ascend to the levels of his heroes and honor his father's memory.

- Natural Pilot: Ever since he was a kit, Kosei has loved the thought of flying. Starting with some basic lessons from his father, and further refinement at the Academy, he has the makings of becoming a grand pilot one day.
- Mechanically Adept: Having spent his life around starships and their parts, Kosei is knowledgeable on how to repair them.

- Short Statured: Because he is an Amaran, Kosei does not stand very tall in comparison to average sentients. While he can hold his own in a scuffle, Kosei still has to overcome the height advantage of any opponent he has.
- Fire of Youth: Kosei is still in his youth, and as such has a bit of a cocky streak. While he makes no mistakes about the seriousness of his new position, there are some lessons that only experience can bring. Additionally, he gets highly agitated at derogatory mentions of hsi father.
