- Being in the near vicinity of the chest can have a soothing and healing effect on an individual.
- Kai is continually working on the carvings that adorn the chest; in doing so, he is subconsciously bonding with the chest, attuning himself to it and it to him.
- The chest serves mainly a symbolic purpose, but could also be used to hold items.
- Sithspawn's Chest: Ankarres wood has a complex Force aura which can soothe the Dark Side out of a mind and amplify nearby healing/medical processes. The central purpose of Ankarres wood is to assist in the curing of alchemically altered beings. Not immediately, not dramatically, but consistently. Tests were conducted in which teams of Ithorian doctors and healers worked to revert Sithspawn into their original state. In the presence of Ankarres trees and wood, the patients experienced soothed emotional and mental conditioning, reduced aggression, reduced manifestation of alchemically-exaggerated traits, resurgence of formerly suppressed bodily and mental processes, etc.
- It's Just Wood: Despite its properties, Ankarres wood is just wood. It was not designed for combat functions. It has the structural integrity of your average hardwood. This makes it relatively easy to shape, but weak against kinetic damage, heat, etc. Its grain is also prone to split.
- Limited Healing: Ankarres wood is not a healing artifact on the order of the Ankarres Sapphire or the Healing Crystals of Fire. The presence of multipotent Ankarres wood may cause a small wound to heal in days rather than a week, for example.
Kai obtained a board of ankarres wood through relatively unexciting means - he purchased it from the famous Marrow & Illskins Alchemy Shop. At first, he intended only to use the wood as a totem or protective amulet, hoping its influence would help to stave off the worst parts of his Sithspawn nature. However, merely having the wood wasn't enough.
While Kai had no experience with woodcarving or crafting, and ankarres wood is notoriously difficult to work with, the boy began carving symbols into the grain. He had no plan; whatever came to mind, he worked into the material. No designs are repeated, and while what looks like figures can be seen along the sides of the chest, one isn't quite sure who they are or what they are doing. Some might seem to be locked in battle, others in prayer, playing, working, and so on. Kai himself doesn't know the full meaning of the carvings he has made, but the project is ongoing, becoming increasingly complex and detailed.
