Public Just A Scouting Mission (Foerost)

Living In Color
Codex Judge

Iris_Sig.png

Simple mission, simple goal. Scout out Foerost's defenses and get out. A quick in and out operation for just two. That being the actual goal. Practice. With handling a Padawan on her own. Iris had been working more and more with Padawan's in preparation to have her own. Training, missions, war. All to get better and more comfortable with taking on her own Padawan. One day. Right now though, the mission. Sitting comfortably in her Xwing she glanced out the stream of Hyperspace circling around them.

"You ready, Padawan? We're not here to engage anyone, but don't hesitate to defend yourself if you have to. Just a quick in and out after a scan."

More a reminder to herself. She was nervous. How could she not be? Being in charge of another life was beyond stressful.

Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss

"Believe me, the last thing I'd want to do is have to defend myself anywhere near one of the enemy's biggest shipyards. It'd be a lot harder to escape if we get a fleet's attention." As he spoke, Tash flipped a few switches on his ship, easing it into a slow burn forwards as the pair of jedi's vessels crept closer to the planet of Foerost. While he was one for enjoying and taking advantage of the maneuverability of his vessels, there was always a time and a place for it, and trying to approach Maw territories undetected was precisely one of those.

While Tash has not really had any real interactions with the Brotherhood of the Maw, what with all of his time spent just searching for his master, but he's heard enough to have a good picture about what he should expect. It was all so bad that it only made it harder on his nerves but hey, at least he had a jedi knight at his side. Infiltration and scouting wasn't exactly his specialty but if Iris had been assigned with him to do this then surely she's probably pretty good at it. Probably.

"So, let's go over the plan again and then get to it. The sooner we're done, the sooner you get to be done with babysitting duty." He gives a weak laugh, his throat dry as his eyes stare off at their destination.

"We drop out, we scan for hostiles, we punch out. You got your nav set up so we can book it the moment the scan's done?" Domxite was already pushing the codes in her vessel. The souped up X-Wing that it was, anyway. Maybe she should've had him ride along with her? .. No, he was a pilot. Let him have his own ship. Yeah, that was fine. She wasn't double guessing anything about this mission she planned.

"Though, most people don't call themselves babies? Are you a species where you actually are a baby?"

Yeah, she took that literally.

Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss

The whiplash from the Jedi Knight seeming to not even understand his nervous humor was almost enough to completely overpower the fear from this scouting mission. Almost. It still was enough to give him a small chuckle, though. Tash himself was just as lacking when it came to such terms before his time with his master, so perhaps that's one way where he's excelled above his fellow Jedi, even if it was such a meaningless thing.

"It's...just a figure of speech, Knight Arani. Don't give it any mind. My navigation's are already set up, though." Not having proper hyperspace routes plotted out ahead of time was a very important lesson for him to learn before. He still remembers how smug Master Penin had been when he found Tash marooned on that desert planet after an unplanned jump nearly sent him flying straight into it. So long as no mistakes like that happen, and the jedi are allowed to just simply close in and do a proper scan, hopefully no incidents like that can occur again.

"If you're ready then I'll follow your lead. We should be fine to approach," he says, his sweat-slicked hands gripping his controls tightly as he waited for her to pull ahead.

She blinked.

"Oh. Right."

Riiight. Figures of speech. She'd learned a lot about those, not that one, clearly. She thumbed at the scanner, readying for the pulse it'd send out. That'd be tracked, most likely. Hence the need for a quick get out.

"Call me Iris, by the way." Knight Arani was still weird for her to be called by. Eventually she'd get used to it. Maybe not today.

"Systems approaching. We drop.. Now."

Hyperspace ended as she pulled down that lever. They emerged just out of sensor range. Actually flying close would probably take a little more time. But better safe than sorry. And it'll let them pop off the scan as soon as they get there rather than when it finished calibrating for the system.

At least, that was the plan.

"So.. You a regular pilot or such? I don't think I know you, really at all."

Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss

"Alright, I'm dropping now Iris," he announces, dropping from hyperspace a small distance behind the other Jedi. Maintaining his speed to keep pace with her, it wouldn't be long now before they would get to land. So long as nothing went wrong then it should be nice and easy and it not, well, then this would turn into a very interesting mission.

Like with all stressful missions, though, there was always that downtime for chatter before things truly got going and Iris seemed to want to learn a bit more about himself. Not knowing about him was rather standard, after all.

"A regular? Well I'm not a part of the Defense Force, if that's your meaning. I've got enough experience in fighters over the years to feel pretty comfortable with it, though. My old master and I would have to fly ourselves around or handle the occasional dogfight with pirates or slavers so it's not like you'll need to worry about me too much." The Maw was many steps above the smaller-scale criminals he had to deal with in the past but hopefully it wouldn't come to him needing to compare at all.

"And what about you? Do you have a lot of experience with missions like this?"

FINAL DAWN
FOEROST, CORE WORLDS

It has been a while since Sularen had been here at the Foerost System. The last time he was here was when he was spearheading the Brotherhood of the Maw's assault on Foerost, the site of one of the Maw's last true victories before the disaster at Tython and the constant setbacks they had been suffering lately. While most of the leaders of the Maw were busy fighting the Galactic Alliance on the frontlines, the High Regent had chosen to sit on the sidelines, making plans to solve the growing problem that was sustainability of the Maw Corridor. Even with Mori's Operation Shadowhand which saw the Maw resume it's offensive in the Core Worlds, Sularen well that her plan was extremely flawed and had a high chance at failing and as such he resolved to make the necessary preparations to ensure the Final Dawn would be ready for any Alliance counter-offensive.

Foerost was key to these preparations as it stood as the Final Dawn's first line of defense against any future Alliance incursion ensuring that it's Armies and Fleets would be ready should they strike and in a position to repel any Alliance counter-offensive. As such, the High Regent had resolved to inspect the fronter world, hence his presence today. Having started his inspection with the Foerost Shipyards, Sularen and a few Military Officers were being given a tour of the Shipyards. Since the Alliance had set the Shipyards ablaze in an attempt to scuttle them, the Final Dawn had worked hard to restore them enlisting much of the Local Human and Skakoan Populace to carry out the repairs under the supervision of the
Politorate, who so far had managed to prevent any serious attempt to sabotage the reperation of the Foerost Shipyards. Now, the Shipyards were in the last stages of being repaired, having already resumed it's operations shortly after the Battle of Tython, now mass-producing new warships for the Final Dawn.

As the guide went on, Sularen and his entourage would soon pass by a hallway with windows overlooking a dockyard currently housing an Ascendant Mark-II Pocket Star Destroyer under construction
"I must say, Special Agent Thif. You have done a great job in putting these Shipyards back into Operation on such short notice. A feat worthy of a promotion." Sularen said. "Thank you, sir." Thif said in response. "We have been working tirelessly to ensure that this project would not be interrupted by any 'disturbances'" the Special Agent added. "Good. This is the type of results i like to see. But i'm a bit disappointed in the fact that you haven't been able to reach the same rate of production of the shipyards before we took it over." Sularen said in response. "My apologies sir, but due to the lack of experienced workers..."

Thif was then immediately cut off by Sularen who waved his hand and spoke. "Special Agent Thif. Your work is exceptional yes, but i cannot tolerate any further delays. I need this shipyard to produce ships at a faster rate then it had been doing so under the Alliance. I don't care about any delays you have faced recently, i just want you to make it happen. Do you think you can do that, Special Agent?" Sularen said before putting a hand on his shoulder and giving him a stern look. "Yes sir." the Special Agent said in response. "Good." Sularen said before giving a brief smile. "I guess this concludes our tour of the shipyards. Colonel Rackham what's our next destination?" Sularen asked. Standing behind the High Regent was his trusted aide,
Colonel Rackham who held a datapad in his hand, scrolling down a bit before proceeding to respond to the High Regent's question. "That would be the communications tower on the surface, sir." the Colonel said in response. "Good. Contact the pilot and tell him to prepare my shuttle, we are heading for the surface." Sularen proclaimed.

With that, Sularen and his entourage immediately proceeded to head for the hangars of the Foerost Shipyards ready to begin the next step of their inspection of Foerost. Atleast the Alliance was too busy fighting the rest of the Maw, as long as they would be distracted the risk of Sularen's high-profile visit to the fronter world would be minimized, ensuring that he could carry out his inspection with little interruptions, at least that was what he hoped.

"Too much experience."

Jedi weren't soldiers. Or, weren't supposed to be. And yet, they were often some of the better suited fighters and agents for the Alliance. Especially against the Sith. Against the Maw. She wasn't going to flood him with her own personal beliefs on it all, not here. Not in the field. "I will worry about you though. We're Jedi. We'll always worry about each other, and everyone else, right?"

That she could at least smile about.

"We're just about to arrive. I'm starting the scan.. Now. Keep an eye on the radar. Let me know if anything comes to investigate."

Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss | Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen

If it were a different time then Iris' excess of experience would be seen as a bad thing. Practically the entire order as it was now would be seen as bad. For these times, though, it's hard to say anybody really has that luxury, much less those as impactful as the Jedi.

At least Iris hasn't lost that compassion that makes her different than a warmongering Sith. Even working as soldiers for the Alliance, they will protect each other. "It's our duty to do so. Even if we're forced to fight, so long as we do that then we're still Jedi."

The time for idle chatter was coming to an end, though, and it was instead radar-checking time. With the duo's x-wings coming closer to the planet and the scan beginning, Tash kept a close eye to his console. Nothing came up yet.

"Clear for now...Wait, no, there's something approaching." The urgency in his voice raised it an octave. He stooped down, quickly recalibrating his radar. A moment later, that same blip again. There was a vessel en-route to the planet.

"Iris, something is coming in to land on the planet and it looks like they're going to pass dangerously close to where we are. What's the status on the scan?!"

FINAL DAWN
FOEROST, CORE WORLDS

After Sularen and his entourage finished boarding the shuttle, the shuttle would proceeded to exit the main hangars of the Foerost Shipyards proceeding the head towards the surface of Foerost. As they left, a squadron of TIE Terminators arrived to escort the Shuttle as it flew past the various defense platforms surrounding the Shipyards and the medium-sized defense fleet which consisted of a few large battlecruiser-sized star destroyers. It wasn't much for a vital planet such as Foerost, but would be enough to provide sufficient protection for the Foerost Shipyards until larger reinforcements could arrive should the Alliance dare to strike at Foerost. Sularen had invested alot of resources and military assets to the occupation of the Core Worlds to ensure that his hold over those worlds would be maintained, no matter how many times the Alliance struck.

As the shuttle and it's escort headed towards the planet below however, the pilot of the lead TIE Terminator caught something on his sensors, two small spacecraft who were wondering around and whom had managed to evade detection from the main fleet or the defense platforms so far. "VIP Shuttle FD-2212, this is Dark Leader, I've detected two small spacecraft of unidentified classification nearby." the pilot said. The Pilots of Sularen's shuttle exchanged looks before Sularen stepped forward having been inside the cockpit of the shuttle along with his aide Colonel Rackham. "Dark Leader. Send two Terminators to investigate, the rest of the squadron is to stay on course towards our intended destination." Sularen said in response over the comms. "Roger that, High Regent." the pilot said.

Soon enough two TIE Terminators split off from the escorting squadron and headed straight towards the two small spacecraft, while shunting their power to their shields incase both of those vessels were hostile and armed. As they approached the two vessels they were soon able to identify them as a pair of T-85 X-Wings and would quickly send a message to both vessels. "Attention, unidentified X-Wings. You are trespassing on Final Dawn Territory, power down your craft and provide identification or we will open fire".

"What- Chit."

No. No no no. The preliminary scan made sure there were no ships nearby. What happened? Someone dropped out? Someone must have. Iris quickly tapped at her screen, glancing briefly to the ship now in the distance. And now the TIEs swinging around their way.

"Scan's not ready yet. Do you think they found u-"

"Attention, unidentified X-Wings. You are trespassing on Final Dawn Territories, power down your craft and provide identification or we will open fire".

"Alright, that answers that.."

Iris frowned for just a moment before glancing towards Domxite, her ever faithful not a droid but still in a droid body companion. "Work on the scans. Tash, S-foils in attack. We're going hot." And like that she turned her controls and opened fire on the first TIE. There was no choice in this.

The Maw wasn't kind to prisoners, if they ever took them.

Less than a moment after the words left his mouth, the radar detected two small ships heading right for them. The mission was already compromised and what could they have done about it? Just get luckier and not have a ship take this route from the orbiting shipyards to the planet's surface?

There's no point to cursing their luck, though. For now they had to focus on the two new objectives that had just come up in this mission. A pair of TIE fighters approached and immediately announced their terms, though perhaps it was a bit surprising to him that their first recourse wasn't to open fire. Foerost just felt like too important of a military target for such protocol in his mind.

Iris, on the other hand, held no such reservations. A quick order to unfold his S-foils and she sent her ship flying forwards, guns blazing. She did say she had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, he supposed.

"Alright, just keep me updated for when it's time for us to pull out from the planet," he mutters into his radio as his ship rockets forwards, it's wings unfolding as it moved. Though rather than moving on a direct course with the TIE ships, Tash opted for swooping down below everyone before wrenching his controls upwards. The X-wing would end up behind the two Maw pilots to cut off their escape, and all 4 of his blasters would send out a volley at the ship Iris had not engaged yet.

DARK SQUADRON

As soon as the two TIEs issued their warnings, the opposing pair of T-85 X-Wings immediately opened fire upon the TIE Terminators with one of them flanking around them to attack them from the rear and cut off their avenue of escape. Fortunately, the shunted shields of the two Terminators allowed them to survive the initial volley thanks to the Shield Force Multipliers. Rather then engage the enemy X-Wings recognizing that they were not in a good fighting position, the TIEs broke off shifting their power to their engines as they activated their SLAM Systems in order to get some distance between them and the X-Wings, regroup and then launch another attack.

Meanwhile from inside the Sith Infiltration Shuttle, Sularen was made aware of the sudden attack which confirmed the craft as Galactic Alliance-aligned T-85 X-Wings. "So, we have a pair of Alliance bandits on our world, interesting" Sularen said. "Dark Leader. Move your entire squadron to engage the pair X-Wings. I want those two ships disabled, not destroyed" the High Regent ordered. Dark Leader responded from the comms with a simple "Yes, your grace." Dark Leader said in response to the High Regent. Then he proceeded to relay Sularen's order to the rest of his squad. "Dark Squadron, we've received new orders from the High Regent. We're moving in to engage the pair of hostile X-Wings" he said before he broke off from the formation around Sularen's shuttle, followed by the rest of Dark Squadron as they headed to attack the two X-Wings

As Sularen watched the rest of Dark Squadron move in to engage the Alliance X-Wings, he proceeded to address the pilot of his shuttle. "Change of plans, we're no longer heading towards the surface. Instead set your course for my ship, i look forward to uncovering the identity of these interloppers" Sularen said. "Yes, sir." the pilot said, soon changing the Shuttle's course as it now headed towards the FDS Predator, Sularen's Flagship which itself was surrounded by the various Star Destroyers that made up the Foerost Defense Fleet.

"Squadron incoming."

Even as she spoke she was already frowning. Watching the ships come their way. The initial volley didn't even seem to hurt the TIE's they had some surprise on. Big player come to visit, then?

Explained why they had no idea someone was going to be here. Scrap it.

"Whatever these are, they're not going down easy. Change of plans, we're retreating. Domxite, scan those TIE's." System information? No. At least some information on these? That she could get. Her S-foils closed as she worked on punching in the last of the hyperspace co-ordinates.

"Get those co-ordinates punched in!"

She turned her ship around, fully intending to retreat. Or at least look like it. They were going to, of course, but she wasn't about to leave Tash to fend for himself against a squadron of souped up TIEs.

So she 'fired' a missile. Grant it, it had no lock on or ability to actually fire, but the bomb she used was meant to be used by the Force. Letting Domxite hold the controls for a moment she focused on that, guiding the bomb through the colors with far too much ease to hit the center of the squadron and erupt with all it's explosion fury.

Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen | Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss

Just as he had planned, Tash managed to pull right around the ships and get off a full salvo against one of the TIE ships. Rather than a pair of explosions as the Jedi took out their pursuers, though, all of their shots just seemed to fizzle out right before contact. "Ahh, good, ray shielding. Oh boy, can't wait to see this mission get even harder..."

Continuing to close in on them to try and cut them off from retreating, firing shots off all the while. Even with the aggressive maneuver, there was little he could actually do to stop them from flying off, their speed drastically higher than before, and they were only in his effective range long enough for him to suddenly find his console sounding off as another 6 starfighters began to close in. Things certainly were getting more challenging at a rapid rate.

At this point, he didn't even need to wait for Iris' instructions to begin trying to get out of there, though her words did come through at about the same moment. The S-Foils on his ship collapsed together as he circled around, now flying away from the TIEs. Gliding right past the explosive payload that Iris launched back at the Maw's squadron, Tash quickly confirms that his navigations were still configured before shooting up alongside the Jedi Knight.

"Coordinates are already prepared. On your cue we jump!"

DARK SQUADRON

As the pair of T-85 X-Wings began to retreat, the Six TIE Terminators of Dark Squadron moved in to follow them, with Dark Seven and Dark Eight trailing far behind having originally been forced to retreat due to the earlier attack from the X-Wings. However, as Dark Squadron closed in on the X-Wings with Dark Leader already locking on the closest X-Wing (Piloted by Tash Erenoss Tash Erenoss ), a massive explosion erupted from behind before knocking his fighter off-course and disabling it. The lead X-Wing had launched a single Shadow bomb against Dark Squadron and because it was guided through the force, there was little Dark Squadron could do to counter such a powerful payload. The result of such an explosion would see four TIEs destroyed while the TIEs of Dark Leader and Dark Two had taken extensive hull damage, had lost their shields and were ultimately disabled giving the Jedi time to escape.

At the same time, Marlon Sularen's Shuttle had safety reached the hangars of the FDS Predator with the High Regent having already entered an elevator which lead straight to the bridge superstructure by the time half of Dark Squadron was disabled. In time he would reach the bridge but by then it would be too late as with the destruction of half of Dark Squadron, the X-Wings would have enough time to make their jump into hyperspace, although Sularen was oblivious to this fact still believing that Dark Squadron was still engaging those X-Wings. Regardless, Iris Arani and Tash Erenoss now had an opportunity to escape Foerost unscathed although this would only be the beginning of their troubles...
