Stay with the ship, Roller, yes... no... I need you to work on the hyperdrive... okay... fine... thank you...

With an annoyed roll of his eyes, Caltin made his way off of "The Starlight Sentinel" and down the loading ramp. The astromech he called "Roller" recently began wanting to leave the ship more and more. A diagnostic showed absolutely nothing wrong with it, so the question (for another time) was "Why does it want to go with him now?" Not wanting to explore this now, Caltin received word, and somehow an invitation to come here. This was interesting as he had never been to the planet and knew nothing about this place. In fact, the name on the invite was one he had never heard of, not that this is saying much right now as the big guy was still learning his way through names. It didn't matter now as a familiar frame, and style of protocol droid was making its way to him.

"Hello, I am Cee Three Pea..."

Normally more cordial with protocol droids, the massive Jedi Master was not in the mood to be fooled.

You are not.

Clearly caught off guard and taken aback, both physically in the step backward and the awkward searching around, the droid continued.

"Forgive me, Mahstuh Jedi. I am Cee Three Pea Eight... human-cyborg relations."

Laughing inwardly at himself for the mistake, Caltin just shook his head. It was obvious who he was thinking about, but that was not here. Not now anyway.

No... please forgive me, I thought you were someone else.

Caught off guard again, the droid re-initiated its awkward scanning of the room.

"Oh my. I have never been mistaken for another. May I ask who?"

Not important.

"I see. Then please allow me to escort you further."

She sauntered down the declined walkway -- Johannes on her hip.

He'd been visiting; it was one of his routine visits. Though this time they had business to discuss. As the Enclave had been organizing with Hapes for several missions into Wild Space, there was naturally more steps in the larger plan. "I reached out to Master Naata Sil Naata Sil on Jutrand and she'll be looking into the various Ithorian diasporas to appeal to them. Conversations with Commenor should be starting soon."

"The Arenais'?
" He followed with the name, and she nodded in response. "Yup. Veiere was my master, and his son is a Jedi now. I heard he was even training my sister at some point. Hopefully he and I can get together soon--"

"Master Jade." Her head whipped around, "You've a visitor."

She looked to the Chume'da and he willingly excused himself -- "Alright--Oh three pea eight would you mind doing an inventory check for me. I'd like to know where we stand on rations since Niima is uh recovering."

"To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"DAY-YUM!"

Caltin Vanagor was a Jedi Master, maybe not so much now, but he was pretty highly respected in his time, and he always made a point to carry a sense of decorum when coming into new situations like this. He was also fairly good at carrying himself professionally, no matter who he was in front of, keeping his feelings, emotions(when he is not suspicious of something or someone), and... other things in check. The thing is though, he's a guy... he's a guy... he's... a... g..

Okay already, they get it.

The woman was obviously in charge, and a Jedi Master, so he would show her the proper respect she had earned. Right fist into the left palm, he offered a short, but respectful head-bow.

Greetings, Master. I am Master Caltin Vanagor. Initially, I was planning on coming here when I had learned of the place to visit and look around. However, I recently learned of the condition of a man I have quickly gained a great amount of respect for. Master Quill. I had learned that he might be here, and if so, with permission, would like to pay a visit and my respects.

Slipping his hands behind his back, at ease, Caltin knew that this was her house, and he would accept whatever she decided. This was the galaxy he would have to eventually start getting used to. There was no single order anymore, even if there should be one way of thinking.

Ah -- for Quill.

He was a hot commodity these days. She wasn't sure if this was due to recent events or, "Nice to meet you Master Vanagor. I don't believe we've met before. Welcome to the Enclave."

She stepped around, and nodded, "Unfortunately though, I don't think I'll be much help." She shrugged a bit in disappointment.

"Quill hasn't been here. I haven't seen him in a few days. In fact I don't think he'll be returning anytime soon for the moment, and I don't know where he is exactly." She carried on. "In fact if you happen to find him, please do let me know where he is." she laughed a bit because she really had no clue, and was curious.

She only knows that he's alive and well, but never got a status on where and when he even was.

"Sorry about that..."

"I'm here. Serendipitous timing, Master Vanagor. Sorry, Master Jade - I sent a message with some Jawas, but they must not have made it."

He'd come in by the other turbolift not long ago, keeping a low profile in the Force until he could take a shower and change his clothes. Heavy new scars rippled down his left hand, and another poked up along his neck, blending with the Draelvasier battle damage. The Jakku sun had bleached his graying hair and toughened his skin.

"I holed up in an empty Eremite hermitage to heal, just north over the horizon. I'm weaker than I'd like - but functional. I just want to say I'm sorry for bringing so much conflict down on this place. I caught the edges and I've seen Ryv Karis's broadcast." He grimaced. "Haven't seen someone talk out both sides of their mouth that much since I visited Ithor. But the perpetrators took the Barash Vow and the Alliance is going for actual rules of engagement, and that's not nothing."

Caltin just smiled, it was an easy miss on her part.

I'm sorry, I'm actually here to see the Enclave and learn about it, the thought of seeing Master Quill was a... Oh, there you are! Glad to see that you are up and about.

Visibly relieved, Caltin turned to greet the Hermit. He did not want to interrupt any possible conversation between the two, for they seemed to know each other pretty well, so the big guy held back and let the old friends reunite for a moment. He did not want to interrupt and since it looked like the old man was going to be okay, new scars and apparent injuries notwithstanding, then he could relax and focus on why he was here. Yes, it was for educational purposes, but there were other reasons as well. The place looked great, while he always enjoyed the history and architecture of the Temple on Coruscant, and the clean lines of the Silver Spire on Kashyyk, Caltin liked the mixture here on Jakku. It was different, it was calming, it was nice.

The comment about "conflict" raised an eyebrow, but this was not his watch, and it was no doubt well under control.

When eyes would come back his way, and not before(let the friends talk), he would explain his reason for being here.

Seeing Master Quill is a fortunate side-effect. I came here to learn about myself... again.

Looking around for a moment, he asked. Is there somewhere we could sit down, if only for a moment. I wish to explain fully, but do not want to take anyone away from their work, or their studies.

Ahem

Like she saw a ghost, "Yup--you sure did." She slowed ticked around to face Caltin with wide eyes, "Uhh Quill is here actually. There he is. In the flesh."

Switching energy, "I-I must've forgot that part--there's been a lot of uhm re-configuring going on here so my mind has been bleh," She recreated and explosion with her hands. "Suppressed memories and such--uh" she sped past that part.

"I'm just glad you're alright. I could fetch some food or something for you--" They went back and forth, "No, you did nothing wrong." Cutting and interjecting because they likely both knew what the other would say, it was a quick exchange and tons of understanding. "It's a step. Tons to fill you in on at some point, raiders and the such." She followed up after him. "I'm just glad something good came from it, let's hope everything holds up."

Caltin said:

She shot back around his way, "Oh. Both of us? Uhh" She motioned just off to the side, chairs lined the walls of the Hub.

Thank you.

Moving over to the chairs, and turning it around so that he could rest his arms on the "back", Caltin took a seat. He took a moment or two to let them not only take a seat themselves but continue their conversation. He was on no schedule, so for another moment or two, he simply yet patiently watched. When eyes were on him, Caltin wondered what he should really say, there was more to why he was here, and in truth, the massive Jedi Master had yet to fully realize why he was here.

Thank you, again, for the chance to come here. I...

Breathing through his nose for a moment and looking down, Caltin took in a breath through his mouth and then looked up at them.

I feel weird about this, but the Force is pushing me to open up. When I was a Jedi Knight, eight hundred years... why does that always come off as "arrogant"?

Shaking his head and looking away for a moment, he looked back.

Sorry, let me start over. About six or seven standard months back, I was found on the planet Rhen Var frozen in ice. I was ambushed, shot down over eight hundred years ago. In my time, when I was a Jedi Knight... I was... brash... aggressive... and yes, I was touched by darkness. Make no mistake, I never swayed from the Jedi, but I always felt that my loyalty was by choice more than anything.

Looking at a few Padawans that passed by, he continued.

I embraced the aggression, but not in the way you would think. I don't know about this day and age, in my time, I was already the Battlemaster of the Jedi Order, back then there was just one. However, I was a bit of a crusader, and given the title "The Sword of the Jedi". Unlike "The Shield" who protected the Temple, I set out and was constantly among the stars in an attempt to keep the fight away from it. I took the fight to the Sith when I was not teaching any Jedi who wished to learn about self-defense and the lightsaber forms. I fought the Sith on their terms and their grounds. I would not teach others to do so because I felt that they needed to be allowed to be "Jedi". It meant a lot to me to do that. I made the hard choices but would allow no one else to do so. I was the bad guy so that no one else would have to be... my choice.

Taking an oddly therapeutic sigh at the statement, he continued on...

When I was granted the level of "Master", I had to learn that it was not our actions that make a difference to those around us, but our presence. It was a hard lesson to learn, and a tough pill to swallow, but I took to it. The problem is, though I was well looked on, I had lost my way. Make no mistake, I felt, good, about what I was doing, and how I was doing it, I was... am tired of war. However it was all I knew for so long, and there was no one else I could talk to about it. I tried, and when I did, I was often told that my emotions "held me down". I don't know, maybe they were right, maybe I was a problem. Anyway, I set out again on a quest, only this one was personal and introspective. I wanted to learn why I felt the way I did. I met a Bendu, or the Bendu... I don't know anymore. Either way, he taught me something about the way he saw the Force. I won't bore you with that conversation... heh... any more than I already am... but what he said made a lot of sense. It gave me a purpose again.

Leaning back and hanging onto the chair as he looked up momentarily he went on...

Then Rhen Var happened and I'm suddenly in a galaxy that has no idea who I am. That is a good thing, after all a spar with Julius Sedaire Julius Sedaire reminded me of that, you can know every form, every variant and still be matched move for move. Anyway, I'm out in and see a galaxy full of lightsiders... but my teachings... my training... my beliefs... only show me maybe two handfuls of true "Jedi". In my day, I could be like that, now? I don't know... maybe I'm the problem. So I guess what I'm saying is that I have my way, I have my purpose. I just want to find my place again.

Raising an eyebrow, he scanned between the two of them... man she's cu..

STOP! She'll sense that from me!

Does that make sense?

"The way I see it," Quill said, producing three dry twigs from somewhere - his robe, possibly his hair - "we all face three fundamental and overlapping needs."

He arranged the three twigs on the floor by hand, carefully, in a tripod shape.

"The search for authenticity and meaningfulness in your life, chosen causes, and actions; the need for a home or connection; and the self - knowing who you are and how to be true to it. Sounds to me like you're hurting in all three areas."

He got up and bustled off, leaving the twig tripod on the floor.

"Be right back."

As a on again off again student of the Bendu herself, she’d be curious to know what cryptic advice he received.

This was a normal issue for most Jedi at some point in their career — that pivot

She went through it too, but his situation was quite abnormal given the fact that it didn’t come on in the way her’s did.

He was essentially thrown into this.

Quill left.

“I can’t necessarily relate given the context of your situation, but there might be some truth to what Quill is saying. Perhaps a change of scenery and a bit of time away could provide some clarity...but I’d be curious to know what your idea of a true Jedi is?”

“Where is the disconnect for you? As it pertains to what you’ve seen recently.”

Hmmm, maybe.

What Quill had said actually made some sense, and at the same time, it did not. He had already had his beliefs, Caltin was set on them. The way he was, well that was who he was, but the massive Jedi Master was a man out of time, and that was his problem. He needed to find a way to fit in with this time, this galaxy, and find his place. Maybe what Quill was saying was the point, in sense. Of course, he left, so the big guy would have to wait for him to come back to ask.

He did not blame the woman in front of him... "Ms. Jade?" for not being able to relate. His was somewhat unique after all, they both seemed to be misunderstanding him a little bit, but that was fine. He was not in dire straits, but the big guy was more curious than anything. There was absolutely no surprise that neither of them seemed surprised when he mentioned the Bendu, the beast seemed timeless, so it made sense that it would still be around today, maybe it was still around and he could go pay it a visit.

When she asked him about what the disconnect was, Caltin had quietly wished that they were in a more closed space as there seemed to be the ability to listen to what he had to say even down the hall. This was clearly an odd feeling, the feeling of being tactful as, even as a Master, Caltin was never one to hold back a thought if it was prevalent inside his head. Why change now? Even if only for a moment.

Truth be told? There are a few exceptions, but the general mindset I see in some of the "younger set" is that being a Jedi is simply memorizing a code, and learning a few skills.

He shook his head.

I was a hothead in my time. I still am now to some extent and in the right circumstances, but... well... my reason for wanting to check in on Master Quill while visiting here is an example. Is it true that he was attacked by a Padawan?

His look was a combination of sadness, shock, and disgust at the thought of it.

I mean, that... the attitude I have seen of many... the lack of respect... don't get me started on the meeting conducted by Master Starchaser a few months ago on Commenor, or the follow-up to it.

He sighed.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. Maybe it's just those I saw. I just feel that being a Jedi... to some... doesn't mean what it used to. Yes, times change, and people change, evolution happens, but this is not just a job. People seem to look at it that way.

He wasn't sad or disgusted, or anything anymore. He was almost resigned in his shrug.

... I don't know. Maybe I'm overreacting.
