HISTORY
Ibaris Varanin is not what she seems. She was found on Tund as an infant, the result of attempts by sorcerers too impatient to rely on prophecy, to bring about the next Sith'Ari, and discovered there by

and Velok who then handed her off to the Empress of the time, one
Ashin Cardé Varanin
, who became her adoptive mother, along with the unwitting Echani donor to her genetic makeup, the Empress' wife, Spencer Varanin... who she would call mom. If not for the obvious weakness of ancient genetic material, this harvested contribution from a powerful being of the Force would not have been needed - King Adas had been a force all his own - but as the babe grew, the initial bold, reddish colour of her skin dissipated, leaving a girl who looked a great deal like her living genetic donor. It was never known whether this was a purposeful thing or not, but regardless, the girl grew up unknowing of the full extent of her origins.
By the time she was five her family had settled on Annaj, within the Fringe Confederation where many of its masters and officials became the child's adoptive aunts and uncles, one of whom created for her a loyal and protective sithspawn companion - a Barkspawn she had unwittingly named Adas - but one other in particular was the focus of her childhood affections: Jared Ovmar, who was her godfather, and whom the wee princess of Eshan favoured above them all. It was he who introduced her to the concept of Sith Alchemy, and indulged her love of beasts, much to the chagrin of her parents. This was an attachment that threatened to crush her when, as a teenager, the day came that he was gone forever. This was when much of her life began to crumble, when reality began threatening to pull her family apart.
She was thirteen the first time she went out alone, going through pilots until she found one that wasn't scared shetless by the reality of her passions for dangerous beasts, and his name was Liam Quez. From thirteen on, he never left her side when it could be helped - and she frequently left him behind, whether on purpose or not: a kidnapping, leaving for many sessions of beast training with the Beastia Quietus, and more besides... despite her prolonged resistance to his interest and unyielding care, he stayed through it all, and with time, familiarity, stability, and his steadfastness bred a change in her that saw him with the same eyes he saw her.
But time threatened that intimate connection, when what some might have called her futile resistance to her inheritance came into play, and pulled her toward the more... ethically questionable possibilities of her alchemical studies, as her oldest companion and beloved pet got on in years. Adas did, blessedly, outlive the finite lifespan of the average canine, but with sober realisation, she knew that every year she had left with her beloved sithspawn beyond the average was borrowed time. And so, working to set aside her ambivalence at what she had always seen as an uncrossable line, she began to delve into organic Sith alchemy. Her inability to let go was more than just love for a pet - the death of her mother at around the same juncture had woven deeply into her feelings and introduced a touch of desperation: she couldn't bear to lose more than she already had, and gathered all the data she could on the Barkspawn, when it became clear that she wouldn't be able to do enough in time. When this loss came to pass, she was already committed.
As she went deeper, cracks began to form, with her relationship becoming the cost of her pursuits. Instead of backing off when she became aware of what she was sacrificing, she came to instead believe that she couldn't drag Liam down with her, convinced herself that he would ultimately just hold her back, so she made arrangements without his knowledge. One day, on a week's brief departure from the pursuit of her aims, when they had taken some time to decompress somewhere fairly safe amid the building tension, she left him in the night while he was sleeping deeply, but not without providing him with enough means so that he wouldn't be stranded, ensuring that he was provided for, for a time... and tearing her heart out in the process. She took the Peregrine, having arranged for another vessel for him, as she had long since been taught to fly by Liam.
Then she was gone.
Subsequent years saw an increase in her alchemical skill and mastery of beasts, and at some point therein, the discovery of her true origins and innate talent for Sith Sorcery, which she took to with ease, and which in addition lead her to the art of communing with the dead - an avenue she did use to further her accumulation of knowledge and power. Her activities outside of and including these pursuits over this span of years are far from common knowledge, at least to the vast majority of those she once knew so well.
