Knights Obsidian Outpost

Somewhere within the Jungles of Vylmira

Calm. Peaceful. Serene. Such was typical of the early mornings upon Vylmira. Quiet, save for the gentle roar of a waterfall in the distance, accented by the call of birds piercing the gentle ambience. It was here that Voph had seen fit to assemble his students for a class. In the wake of the terrorist assaults on peaceful lands, Voph had begun to reemphasize combat training. And today, they would be learning the basics. "Greetings, students. You are gathered here today to learn anew, or refresh existing knowledge of, the skill of fighting with naught but your fist."

Voph wore a simple tunic that hugged his form, allowing the students to better see the exact movements that this new skill would undertake. Voph paced in front of the young squires that were assembled in the courtyard as he continued. "A time will come when your Lightsaber will fail you. And it is best that you prepare for that time. Even so, what you will begin learning today will shape your skills with a blade for years to come. To understand how to control one's body is to understand how best to utilize it against those that would seek to harm you, or those you protect."

Voph held out his hand, fingers splayed apart, palm towards the ground. "To the uninitiated, they look upon my hand and see just that. A hand. Bound by human limitation, and crippled by physical ability. But, as many of you students should already be aware, there is far more to our kind than meets the eye. Your task for this morning is simple: Find a partner, and we will practice a simple drill to combine both fist and force, from which you may build to greater things. Please, if you do not already have a partner, find one now."

Voph had certainly picked a good location, away from distractions peaceful and even a nice body of water to throw people into..Okay maybe not that last part but she wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the day someone ended up in the drink. Such tended to happen when people were throwing their fists around and performing body throws.

Kurenai stood off to the side a little behind Voph as he addressed the students, donned in a simple white and blue Hakama. It was an outfit that she often wore then participating in sparing and hand to hand combat training, though unlike the squires present she was not hear to learn.

When it came to martial arts Kurenai was a master of several practiced forms taught throughout the galaxy while also being an expert in disarming opponents and use of the force in such circumstances. As such, the marshals presence here was very much that of an instructor being arguably one of the best fighters in the CIS when it came to unarmed combat.

It would be interesting to see how the varying people present would fare without any weapons, she was also quite eager to face off against a few of them herself. It would be nice to stretch out once in a while, giving out pointers and advice while sparing with someone was always an interesting and fulfilling interaction.

Danielle had seen her fair share of fights; Not those the likes of war, but the likes of scraps between fighting teenagers growing up within a military institute. Life today was much different, yet at fifteen years of age she was still very much a blank canvass. When enlisting within the Knights Obsidian however, she had made it known that she held military background and wished to continue to serve now for the Confederacy while also coming into her own as a Force User.

Having also recently been reassigned under the authority of Adron Malvern Adron Malvern as Exarch, he had instructed her to continue to pursue her duties and training with the Knights Obsidian in order to become more familiar with the Force and what capabilities it could offer one who held the dedication and the willingness to learn.

Dee stood among the others, listening to that of the Lord Commander. She had only met him once, briefly having acknowledged her back during the social gathering on Naboo. He spoke about mixing the, Hand-To-Hand Combat and the Force to empower the combatant. So far Dee had found little progress in her ability to use or practice the Force, yet she was being exposed to more and more through Adron's encouragement.

When asked to find themselves a partner, Dee turned to look about the group, hoping for a familiar face among the crowd, if not a friendly one.

Returning to the Confederacy, however briefly he had interacted with it previously, had gone far better than expected. Knowing that the woman he had elected to follow, initially, ultimately had a hand in the suffering and loss of those that protected his own people got him incensed. Swearing to do what he must to prevent such atrocities, as he laid the memories of old squadmates to rest on Fennesa, his enlistment with the Knight Obsidian became a done thing in mind before he had presented himself in body in the days thereafter. A body that stood over two metres, and weighed in at over half a ton, Arristorr Peradun was a musclebound, perhaps intimidating specimen of the denizens of Felacat, and if that didn't make obvious what he was, keen citrine eyes focused on the Lord Commander, and a long, fully prehensile tail slowly swishing to and fro behind the Felacatian, confirmed it.

In the time prior to setting foot on Vylmira, Arro had adhered to his default routines of self-maintenance when not gleaning more of the basics in use of the Force that had not come from Scherezade, and even those that had come from her, he did his utmost to not bring them forth from a place of much anger as she had attempted to instruct. He was disappointed in how things had turned out, self-critical at his own initial willingness in it, but anger was misplaced in any avenue but were it was deserved. He knew where it belonged, where it should be directed. Anger without awareness could make a soldier blind, a fact his superiors impressed upon him as a young teen, early in his initial training. Those years would serve him well, in this place.

At the directive for them to find a sparring partner, Arro looked with a discerning gaze at the others, their posture, expressions, manner of dress, lingering a shade longer on the blonde girl, something about her seemed familiar... not in face, not in frame, but in the way she held herself. A commonality between them, though she appeared barely much older than he had been on conscription. He shifted his gaze away, giving thinking it over.

Well...

The thinking lasted maybe a scant few moments, before he turned not too sharply, but with more grace, and approached Dani, hands behind him, wrist grasped.

"Do you need a partnerrr?" He queried, trying not too loom over her, trying his best to put a cap on his feline inflection, then: "I'm Arristorr... I mean, Arro Peradun."

Nightmother Vytal Noctura led the Witches of the Confederacy -- those inclined toward spiritual conjuring and use of energy in Creation -- and as such was an Obsidian Lord within the Knights Obsidian. Still, some might not have expected someone of such a background to bother in attending a session like this one; much as she rarely bothered with assemblies of the Viceroyalty unless it involved matters of utmost importance. Understandable since their Art relied on mystical power and not physical combat. Did that not make it all the more reason to attend? Or for other witches to do so?

Of course, there was also the Nightsister heritage that emphasized magick was not the sole source of power in a Sister (or Brother). Neglecting the physical for the spiritual was as foolhardy as neglecting the spiritual for the physical. True power did not come from being the greatest at any one facet of existence, but by being competent in all of them yet possessing outstanding talent in one or more. What you lacked in raw power could easily be made up for in the application -- or skill -- with the power one possessed. How else did valiant heroes defeat the villains of the galaxy despite overwhelming odds?

Vytal stood off to the side allowing the Knight Commander to bid the students pair up for instruction. It was his world, and he was the ranking officer present. Not that the Nightmother put any stock in rank -- only in respecting Voph as a person. At least, she would do so for a time. If those assembled took too long to make a decision the Nightmother might play the Evil Witch and start commanding people to get into some semblance of order.

Hopefully there'd be an opportunity for her to participate as well, but Vytal could always arrange something outside of class as well. Today was for those within the Knights to become more familiar with themselves, and to meet new people in the Order.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle...
Knights Obsidian Outpost
Vylmira

...Luca was down to his undershirt and trousers. Jungles were notoriously humid, and the jungles of Vylmira were no exception at least where he was concerned, but being here was beneficial not only to him, but to his apprentice. As much as he could scrap, as much as he could brawl, as he'd learned to do in scrambling to fend off his peer assailants as a boy, by trial and error, his methods in that vein were brute, strong expressions of telekinetic power. His erstwhile master had taught him control, not only of when his abilities came into play, but in putting a dial on his output... but still, he wasn't taught specific unarmed combat by the man, as Urley didn't have the know-how either. And Teyla was a former handmaiden. Apparently they were already good at this hand-to-hand stuff, to some extent, which was what Voph spoke of, and what this class was all about.

Which is why he was sweating his ass off in the jungle, the wishful mental image of a quick, nude snowbath doing little to cool him... but apparently the sweat was good for him, too. He'd never learned to do the opposite of Tapas - whatever that was - and to top it off, there would be no smoking. Wouldn't want to burn down the jungle. Tempting as that might be, it'd only make things hotter.

What I wouldn't give for even one ice cube down my shirt....

He slipped a surreptitious sidelong glance at his aforementioned padawan, hazarding a guess that she wasn't keen on the climate, either. The Lord Commander had instructed them to find partners, if they didn't have 'em already, so he took a moment to check on her.

"Bet you're thinking what I'm thinking too, huh?"

Probably not. She'd probably be just as miserable where he'd feel right at home. This 'padawan' thing was still all so new.

"A nice recline in a snowbank, feastin' on snowcones, a couple cold ones..."

His eyebrows rose, with his shit-eating grin, beads of sweat on his forehead.

"...no?"

________________________________________________________

The thousands of noises crashed over her senses as serene as the waterfall that fell in the background, and while the virescent views of Vlymira were indeed beautiful, the sweet jungle fragrance was almost cloying, and the air was so hot that sweating seemed obsolete.

It was difficult, also, moving through the dense vegetation to get here. This was nothing like the worlds she’d seen traveling with Damon, and it was nothing like her homeworld on Naboo. Although she’d been trained as a Handmaiden, and worked as a CSF officer afterward, none of her previous experience prepared her for this sort of environment.

Pinching her grey tank top between her fingers, Teyla puffed her shirt out a few times to try and stimulate some kind of airflow to cool down, to no avail.

She hadn’t voiced those complaints out loud, but it was telling by just looking at her that she was uncomfortable in her own skin, silently listening to the Lord Commander’s instructions.

"Bet you're thinking what I'm thinking too, huh?"

Teyla raised a brow and glanced at him from the corner of her eye.

"A nice recline in a snowbank, feastin' on snowcones, a couple cold ones… No?"

She kept her face expressionless.

There was something about Luca, she thought idly. Not in that romantic… 'I can’t get you out of my mind', endearing kind of something, but the kind of something that made her want to 'smack that stupid grin off his face'. He made her blood boil to temperatures she didn’t think possible!

This definitely wasn’t what she had in mind when they said they would set her up with a Master. They had to of run out of the sages, and this was what was left.

“Ya know... I think I’m gonna really enjoy this exercise today.”

Teyla grinned, cracking her knuckles. When it came to hand-to-hand combat, she was quite skilled.

The air was heady with the scents of growing things. The patched colors of his coat gave him a surprising amount of camouflage despite the fact he was better suited to grasslands and sparse woodlands. Traveling on four feet made things far easier in dense foliage and with a keener nose paired with better hearing, it wasn’t hard to find where this teaching group was.

He arrived just as he heard the man talk about ‘pairing up’. Three hundred pounds of canine stalking from the bushes might lead some to worry, but when its shape shifted and became a man, hopefully they’d recognize friend over foe. At least Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura knew him when he borrowed Eris’ furred form. He bowed respectfully. “I apologize for being late… Got a bit side tracked on a hunt and well… Almost lost track of time. May I join?

While physical combat wasn’t quite where his skills lay, he’d be a fool not to learn new tricks. Besides, what he learned here could be applied elsewhere. He was surprised to see the Nightmother here, but at least he had a friendly face. His clothing was light and loose, perfect for the humid weather and for this training exercise.

"Do you need a partnerrr?".

Danielle turned in the direction of the voice and meant to answer, when instead her voice got caught somewhere in the back of her throat and her mouth was left agape as she stared up at the guy in-front of her. Since becoming a Citizen of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, she had met a number of different species and types of people. The first of them that popped into mind when looking up at Arro Peradun was none other than Miyako Saki Miyako Saki who like this man, shared a lot of...er, fur.

'Creature features!'.

The word just came to mind.

"Uhm, hey" she greeted him, her mind seemingly taking a moment to click and recall that he had asked her a question; "o-Oh! Right, yeah sure!" she grinned warily, "That sounds good, thanks" she added with genuine appreciation and perhaps a little sheepish embarrassment.

While they hadn't yet been given further instructions, Danielle motioned for Arro to feel free to stand on either side of her, plenty of room between herself and the others who would likely be finding partners of their own. Thank the God's that she hadn't had to approach anyone...-Being built stockier than most humans were, especially their women, Dani was often intimidated or fearful of their judgement and ostracism.

Although come to think of it, the fifteen year old's height wasn't going to see so out of place when sparring with this Felacatian guy. A thought suddenly crossing her mind that she had initially stood in shock of his height just like she feared others might possibly do to her.

"My name's Danielle, by the way" she offered her name as he had given his own, "Sorry about that, you surprised me a little. I didn't mean to be rude" she explained, apologizing for how she had reacted. He might not have thought anything of it, but as she certainly had, she hoped to account for any possible harm done.

So. Hand-to-hand fighting. Millu knew nothing about it, nor had ever done anything like it. Except maybe for that one time when she was fourteen when she got mad at her current employer for firing her and slapped him in the face. But that wasn't really a fight, though... She got scared that the man would call would make a scene and end her humble career and just ran away as soon as she realized what she had done.

This was different, and thankfully her life had changed a lot from that day to now, but that didn't change the fact that Millu was as comfortable packing a punch as a droid was dealing with feelings.

Still, that was a very good point the Lord Commander was making. She hadn't trained a lot with her lightsaber yet, and if her last few experiences were of anything to go by, Millu would like to know at least a bit of fighting so as to not be almost completely helpless in the middle of a battle.

Vylmira was a beautiful planet, with its lush forests and thick jungles, and that bit of water rushing through the ground in the background. She was glad to be here, and it truly seemed like a good enough place to be sliding around, sparring with fellow squires and maybe a knight or two.

But she had no idea who to pair up with when the Lord Commander's orders ressonated through the clearing.

Jalan had followed Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura here, even against the request of the HRD that watched over her. The chance to learn and receive instruction from someone that knew what they were doing was always the best option compared to learning by watching. The images she had been given only showed her the story, the intent of the information. Now, she had the chance and time to actually practice. It was plain clothes about her, fit for sparring with a little thought given to protecting her joints with light wrappings. A small thought given the subject. Limits were made to be broken after all.

Hopefully without any serious injury.

She stood beside the Nightmother, eyes carefully watching the other students as they assembled to spar. Their being students was her assumption anyway. People were always students when they assembled to learn. Regardless of whatever titles they had pinned to them. She remained silent until the one she guessed had called for the assembly deemed it was time to acquire a partner for practice. She took a half-step forward but said nothing, still the somewhat awkward little duckling that Vytal had taken in.

Shadow Legion Training Slacks

Taramaz flicked his right hand, the laces of his boots tightening themselves. He stood tall and firm, his legs straight and his posture unwavering. His shoulders were squared and his hands clasped behind his back, pulling his shirt taut across his chest. His gaze was straight and forward, facing out toward the group of Knights, masters and adepts, experts and apprentices, the aspired and the aspiring. His eyes occasionally swept across the gathering, his silver irises showing less emotion than the metal for which they were named.

He kept his lip straight and his muscles relaxed and ready. He wore the cargo pants, boots and cargoshirt of the Shadow Legion. His upper sleeves were adorned with the four stars surrounding the flag of the Confederacy in all cardinal directions. The insignia denoted him as the Marshal Dusk of the Shadow Legion, the Knights Obsidian Covenant comprised of the Confederacy's most devout and fearsome dedicated to the protection of the Confederacy against extra-galactic threats, and threats that pose a risk to the Galaxy as a whole.

While Taramaz was a devout disciple of celebration and enjoying one's life, he recognised the need for authority and discipline, for others and yourself. A time for fighting and a time for drinking. His body held perfectly still, devoid of emotion, as a devout figure of strength and power, with a large intimidation factor for the new and unknowing.

To be Sean-Olc was to be Strength, the Will of the Saints and the Force made physical. His form was tall, standing a few inches over ten foot and his body a solid mass of muscle. He swept his eyes across those assembled once again, flicking over each face. He carried no weapon with him today, to do so would insult the purpose of the training.

He watched impassively as Knights began to get into partners, some leaning towards masters or apprentices, others leaning towards the safety and comfort of Knights they were well acquainted with. While others ventured into the unknown, daring the Galaxy to surprise them. Those that ventured into the Unknown were the ones that Taramaz kept his eyes on.

To seek safety when one was to test their limits and expand them was cowardice and ineffective, self-defeating of the purpose of attending. Those that sought a new experience and embraced surprise would one day lead the Knights Obsidian, if not the Confederacy or Galaxy as a whole. He pitied the fool who failed to test their limits, for they would invariably fail until they did.

While Taramaz was admittedly not overly fond of any particular form of martial art, much preferring to simply let his body flow and allow instinct to guide him, he had to admit that he had mastered... many forms of martial combat. While he might have once scorned such fighting and thought it unnecessary, he grew to tolerate it as he was forced through learning it, even if he saw no point in it at the time when he was learning so many more things.

Then he did not know what strength was. Now he did. He would not make the same mistake again. Try every chance, risk every danger and experience every enigma. That was how he learnt, how he grew.

He may have been at the gathering as an instructor, if a highly experienced and intimidating one, he was there for a purpose. He was there to usher in a new age of strength and security for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a Confederacy he had recently seen attacked and savaged by terrorists. It had seen weak, ineffective leadership. Leadership that focused too little on the things that mattered and became too easily obsessed with personal goals.

The Knights Obsidian, however, was prospering under the leadership of this Lord Commander, and he could appreciate that. However, the turn of fate demanded that the strong overtake the weak, and Taramaz would see fate proven right, just this once. Whatever means necessary, he would lead the Knights Obsidian to a new age of glory, where they would reclaim their place as the Sword and Shield of the Confederacy. Whether he simply outlasted the current Lord Commander, or disposed of him would yet to be seen, however, neither option seemed very likely.

He would face the Galaxy, and stare it into submission. He had no Plan B, not anymore. He only had one goal: Strength and Security for the Confederacy. Pity to those who might stand in his way, for though he walked in the Valley of the Shadow of Death, he would fear no evil, for he was the meanest motherfucker in the Valley.

Vytal looked over at Vanir Eris Vanir Eris as he sauntered onto the scene as a large canine. Her green eyes held on him as the man explained his tardiness. Side tracked. That he lost track of time was certainly understandable, however. When you were hunter you were also hunted (on certain planets) so time was not something you paid a great deal to. If it took an hour or four hours to catch you prey without ending up eaten yourself then that's how long it took. A Nightsister could appreciate these things even if she did not become a beast of the wilds herself.

"You may." A shadow of a smile passed over her black lips. It was pleasing to see him there.

She turned her attention to Jalan Riyadosh in short order after regarding those present. "Jalan, would you care to engage the first round with Vanir?" Her eye briefly slid over to regard the man once more. "You can trust in his discretion, and his abilities."

The Nightmother could feel Millu was reaching out to another, which left her to find a match for Jalan and Vanir. Seeing how there were two of them the situation fit nicely. Then again, Vytal herself would not mind picking one for herself. With that in mind Vanir Eris Vanir Eris , Kurenai Yumi Kurenai Yumi , Kyyrk Kyyrk , or even the towering Taramaz Arcturus might make for a suitable partner. The latter would no doubt be the better martial artist. A Nightsister could hurt, she could even war if another Clan got too full of themselves, but the dedication certain people held to personal combat among the stars far exceeded the training a Sister endured. But then there always was someone smarter, stronger, or faster than you; finding those people was how to learned and grew as a person in whatever field they were adept at.

This was not the first time that Taiia had been on Vylmira, on the contrary, thanks to Lord Voph himself she had come to think of it as home ever since he invited her there, which to her seemed so long ago now but truly it was not. The beauty of the world was never lost on her and never failed to help her find a peaceful state of mind.

Though peaceful contemplation was not on the agenda today as Voph gave instruction to those assembled. The order of the day was to be hand to hand combat, something quite honestly that she had never been adept at. Her sparring lesson with Voph only cemented how important it was to be well rounded in combat, with a lightsaber Taiia was a force to be reckoned with, but without that saber? It may well cost her life.

And so she was here to learn and train to make up for the weakness that Voph had shown her so that even without a lightsaber she would be able to meet a challenge and survive it. At last, Voph told them to pair up and the red glimpsed a young woman standing alone before crossing over to her and extending a hand with a gentle smile.

“You look like you need a partner? I’m Taiia you are?” The hand was still outstretched to Millu Lee Millu Lee

Vanir gave the woman that Vytal spoke to a slight bow of his head. “Physical fighting isn’t near to where my strengths are, so I hope I’ll make a worthwhile partner.

He then flashed both her and the Nightmother a charming smile. “And here I was worried you’d have to partner with me Nightmother. At least this way I am sure my new friend here will take pity on me and not tenderize my poor flesh, well, too badly I hope...

Jalan had seen the transformation, and with silent wonder, had marveled at the feat. It was certainly something that drew attention, but the fact that the Nightmother had done little more than fix him with a watchful eye meant that it was a fairly common thing. Or perhaps was a fairly common thing for, this Vanir fellow.

"I shall, Nightmother. I trust your assessment." She gave Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura a small nod, and smile before turning to Vanir Eris Vanir Eris .

There was an equal bow in response to Vanir's, a small smile appearing as he spoke. "Nor mine, though I aim to correct this shortcoming. I am sure you will be an exceptional partner for this exercise." The tone was somewhere between forced, and sincere. Fluttering between the two in an awkward dance of someone still learning social cues, or how to socialize.

"I would not aim to harm anyone willingly. Merely in self defense. Even then I sincerely doubt that I will do more than accidentally scratch you." She explained quietly, though lacking the tone of offended. Stated as a matter-of-fact. Burgundy eyes watched him intensely, still enamored by the thought of being able to transform.

"I am Jalan Riyadosh, I shall be in your care for the first part of this lesson." The barest of nods to him before settling into a bland expression. What a wonderful day this would be, and would hopefully continue to be given the continued lack of injury.

The blonde haired Lopara smiled and nodded. “I am Vanir Eris. Physically I’d probably manage well enough. I am at least on equal footing with those not so skilled and can break a person if I get a good grip and exert that strength. It is just… What training I had, was not as useful in these times, I could easily be beaten by one more skilled. This pairing of Force and physical training intrigued me. Normally I’d fight with my magics or mind, so if I can learn something that is both, all the better.

As a man he was no less a sight, standing at a lithe and lean six foot eight and two hundred and forty pounds. He didn’t hold himself in such a way as to be intimidating, far from it, his body was relaxed and his posture was alert as well as evenly balanced. He seemed at home standing as he was, even if for the most part the people around him were unknown. If she watched him closely she might be able to note he would occasionally turn his head towards a sound only he could hear or when the wind changed, he breathed deeply.

As both animal and man, his senses were sharp and having come from a hunt, that dip into the primal still claimed part of him. One might even be able to imagine that at a moments notice he could change skin again and disappear. Just because one left a hunt, didn’t meant the hunt so easily left the one who had done the hunting.

Voph looked at the class gathered before him, hands now folded behind his back. He watched as the students began to form small groups. As they gathered, he continued to speak. "Your exercises today shall be based upon a simple module that you have already learned. While some of you may view this as basic, it is an excellent framework upon which to build your form."

Voph gestured beside him, where a hologram appeared, demonstrating a simple series of punches, kicks, and blocks. "please, take a moment to refresh yourself on this module, and then the true instruction will begin, and you will learn how to channel the Force through these strikes. But understand, restraint is necessary. Injury is likely, even in the most controlled of circumstances. I urge you caution as you practice with your partner, lest they become wounded by your actions."

Shadow Legion Training Slacks

Taramaz tightened his grip on his hands behind his back, his arms flexing somewhat minorly. He swept his gaze once more over the gathering of Knights Obsidian, both young and old, masters and adepts, and allowed himself not a single smile, for showing emotion would not do in this scenario. He did, however, allow himself to nurture the warm feeling of unity, the power he saw assembled before him almost brought a smile to his face.

He turned his head slightly, glancing over at the Nightmore. It was true that he might find himself in need of a partner, though that was up to interpretation, as the Lord Commander had not yet announced his intentions for the Obsidian Lords that had gathered today. Taramaz assumed they were merely there as Instructors, to assist others in understanding what they had mastered.

The Nightmother would, no doubt, make a worthy opponent. It would do good for him to gauge his potential opposition for the role of Lord Commander. Perhaps the Nightmother would allow the fall of one for the rise of a greater, or perhaps she would defend the Lord Commander. Mayhaps she might even aid Taramaz in overthrowing the Lord Commander. These questions, however, were best left for later times.

He also had the option of sparring with his fellow Lord Marshal, however, he doubted they would prove to be of great challenge. Still... they posed no small threat, yet he had not seen any ambition for greater things, and she would no doubt become Taramaz' next target if she ascended to Lord Commander. But the sparring match would be interesting, if nothing else.

His gaze fell next upon the Lord Commander himself. A fight to gauge his skill and strength, disguised as training? Now that would be wise. It would also be quite a show, judging by what the Lord Commander implied. Martial Arts combined with the Force? That spoke of Taramaz' strength and specialisation. Pairing the Force with Martial techniques was his calling.

As the hologram appeared at Lord Voph's command, it held the Lord Marshal's attention very briefly. It was simple, the very basics, things he incorporated daily. A refresher was not needed. However, as the lesson truly began, Taramaz did find himself in need of a partner, as the Lord Commander had left his Lords without commands once more.

So he turned his body sharply, to face the Nightmother, and marched over. Each step was measured carefully, in both length, weight and purpose, creating the perfect picture of a military man. His march was uniform, and he could imagine that to some of the younger squires, and perhaps even the knights and masters, intimidating. To be approached by his massive figure was... most extraordinary, after all, not many humanoid species could claim his size.

He turned his gaze down to the Nightmother. Not out of disrespect, but simply from a physical requirement. A warm, friendly, courteous smile graced his lips. The kind most wore when making new friends, or reuniting with those one had no true friendship with, yet politeness demanded courtesy.

"Well, Nightmother, it seems as though we have been left to our own devices by the Lord Commander. Would you care to be my sparring partner? I'm sure it would be a valid learning experience for the both of us. I can not claim to having the great honour of doing battle with a Nightmother, much less one from Dathomir."

His tone was courteous as ever, yet possessing the military authority one could only get from leading men and women to their death on the battle field, and claiming victory. His smile never faltered, nor did he flinch. While he made have been unnecessarily flattering, the Nightmother did not strike him as the type of person to take too great an offense to friendly chatter.

The Witch smiled as she gazed at Vanir. A lack in present skill was what this training was to help address. Not that the man needed to become an expert in hand to hand combat -- or even Force-imbued hand to hand combat -- but magick (or the Force) and blasters weren't always available. One should not neglect the natural abilities of their physical forms out of mere convenience that magick brought.

"Careful, Vanir," Vytal replied calmly, "or I may find it worthwhile for private instruction later." Where she might tenderize his poor flesh beyond reasonable means was the implication. The man knew her better than to fall victim to abject terror due to stereotypes about Nightsisters. Not that the stereotypes were wrong, but her people were not savages.

Jalan drew a brief look from the Nightmother as she assented to the partnering. A slight nod followed that acceptance. Being closer to equal footing should help them sharpen one another.

Lord Commander Voph then announced the start of the instruction. It seemed he intended to start them off with 'simple' exchanges before progressing to 'enhanced' ones. A wise move. There was nothing more ineffectual than an empowered strike that was two feet off center mass missing the target entirely. First, learn how to hit the target. Second, learn how to wound or kill the target. That said, the pale woman decided to add in a voice so all could hear, "Caution. Not fear. One exercises control, the other panic -- and you will find nothing worse in battle than panicking." It was a distraction those present would have to learn with time if they did not already know it.

Without further ado, the Lord Marshal Arcturus, graced the Nightmother with his towering presence. The pale woman turned her head to regard him with her brightly lit, green eyes before the rest of her body turned toward him as well. His offer of a sparring partner was both sensible and unexpected. Especially unbidden by any outside force. Nor was this the first time he seemed to have a particular inclination toward her. "While a Nightsister learns combat to survive in the forests of Dathomir, I will not claim physical combat as our specialty. Nonetheless," a small smile graced her black lips, "I find myself drawn to learn more about you by deed." The Echani claimed to converse through combat. Vytal could see how that was true to an extent, but to the degree those pale women claimed seemed suspect. Perhaps today was a good time to test the theory.

"Shall we find a place removed from the rest?" Not another chamber necessarily, but she expected with the man's capabilities it would not be wise to stand beside another set of combatants too closely.
