DESCRIPTION
As more and more military vessels found themselves posted on the galactic market, the design teams at Republic Engineering believed that there was an untapped venue for civilian-rated starfighters. They needed something that offered a competitive edge but at a fraction of the cost that was often poured into military-grade hardware. Thus, the Corporation turned once again to their meticulously preserved archives to garner some form of inspiration. After countless hours rifling through one schematic after another, the design team assigned to this newfound initiative found their aesthetic baseline. The I-7 Howlrunner. Not only did this ancient starfighter have a small learning curve when it came to its operation in flight, but the more experienced a pilot was - the more deadly this spacecraft could become.

So, without further delay, it was decided that the I-7 Howlrunner would be the base for the newest iteration of civilian-grade starfighters. While similar in many respects on the outside, the Howlrunner would play host to countless upgrades and technological advancements over its predecessor. In many respects, while it looked the same, the I-13 as it was dubbed, would be a wholly different starfighter from the inside out. That was a purposeful choice, as the Republic Engineering design team wanted to invoke a sense of familiarity while introducing a whole new portion of the Galaxy to the benefits often seen only in military-grade vessels.

In a way, the Corporation saw this iteration of the Howlrunner as an effective tool to train the next generation of pilots before they entered the greater universe.

However, should a Planetary Defence Force find itself strapped for pilots, the I-13 iteration of the Howlrunner offers something partially unique to this Era. While Droid Starfighters weren’t anything new and revolutionary, this version of the Howlrunner found itself blessed by a modicum of autonomy. That meant that the I-13 was capable of operating as a fully-combat-ready starfighter with, or without a pilot. Naturally, it’s combat efficacy would greatly differ between a piloted model and the integrated droid brain - but when flesh came at a premium, it was better to throw a machine into the fires of combat and hope for the best. While blessed with a limited variation of artificial intelligence, the Howlrunner would still require remote commands to be transmitted - lest it falls into standby mode.

With this new iteration of Howlrunners being pushed into production, the civilian market would find itself emboldened by the addition of a potent starfighter. Pirates across the stars, beware.
