TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Vibro-Axe
  • Size: Very Large
    • Total Length: 2.20 m (7.22 feet)
  • Weight: Very Heavy - 32 kg (70.55 lb)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Diagnostic System
    • Diagnostic system in the weapon can run automatic maintenance checks and is able to identify parts, systems, and components in need of repair or replacement.
    • An integrated electronics and communication suite in the weapon links to virtually any system, allowing the wielder to obtain hard data from its systems, such as running temperatures, stability, diagnostic information, etc.
  • Remote Link
    • The Howling Death is linked to its wielder via a miniaturized comm link, allowing them to interface with and control the weapon remotely. This may be done through a neural link, HUD command, or any other control system that the wielder may set up.
    • In the event that the Howling Death is lost, the communications unit can send out a “ping” so that the weapon can be located.
  • Mono-Molecular Edge
    • The axe blades have edges honed to a single molecule of thickness. Thus, the edges are extremely, surgically sharp, increasing potential cutting performance.
  • Ultrasonic Vibration Generator
    • A high-grade vibration generator, the ultrasonic vibration generator causes the blade to vibrate with extreme speed and force, giving the weapon the ability to tear through flesh, hard organic carapace, thick stone, and heavy metal alloys the likes of titanium and durasteel. In addition, the vibro-axe has the potential to inflict devastating, gaping wounds and possibly even dismember, with little more than a touch.
  • Draika-Infused Plasma Edge
    • Tiny emitters along the edge of the blade generate a clinging sheath of crimson-white plasma powered by the Draika crystal fragments embedded within the runes. This wraps the physical blade in a thin layer of Draika-generated magnetic plasma at ~25,000 °C, capable of slashing through starship hulls and heavy vehicle armor with potentially only one or two strokes.
    • Every impact from the vibro-axe with the Draika-infused plasma edge active releases a directional cone of superheated gas and molten micro-debris 120° forward, ≈3–5 m long. Unarmored beings in that cone may suffer instant third-degree burns and might potentially be hurled backward, while armored troops risk having visors melted shut and joints seized.
    • The Draika crystal fragments and the Bloodsteel blade can be supercharged through a variety of means, increasing the potency of the plasma edge. Anything that produces intense heat, life energy, pain, or raw dark-side emotion in close proximity can be siphoned by the Bloodsteel, which is then used to supercharge the embedded crystal fragments. In a supercharged state, the Draika-generated magnetic plasma burns at ~50,000 °C. In such a state, the weapon has a very high chance of slashing through beskar, aged wintrium, and other similarly exotic and resilient materials.
    • The plasma edge can be used to deflect blaster bolts, electricity, and most other kinds of plasma or laser discharges.
    • The plasma edge can be activated or deactivated via the remote link.
  • Svolten Rhyolite Treatment
    • Allows the axe to retain its integrity and cutting power even after sustaining hard impacts with the blade of a lightsaber or with especially dense materials.
  • Collapsing Mirrors Edge Retraction System
    • The mono-molecular edges can retract into a semi-dull housing via molecular disruptor mirror cells when the weapon is not in use. The mono-molecular edges can be unsheathed (or retracted) via the remote link.
  • Resilient Construction
    • Owing to the vibro-axe’s material construction, it is extremely resistant to lightsabers, vibroblades, and energy weapons.
  • Passive De-Ionization System
STRENGTHS
  • Metaphysical Feedback Loop: The Bloodsteel used in the Howling Death’s construction actively siphons life energy, pain, and Dark Side emotion from the battlefield and its wielder. This directly powers the supercharged state, creating a self-sustaining cycle where the weapon grows more powerful the more it is used to kill and destroy.
  • Supercharged Anti-Material Capability: When fueled by the pain, death, trauma, and Dark Side energy of battle via its Bloodsteel core, the weapon can enter a supercharged state (~50,000°C). In this mode, its cutting power escalates exponentially, giving it a high probability of defeating even nigh-impenetrable materials the likes of beskar and aged wintrium.
  • Unparalleled Armor Penetration: The Howling Death combines two extremely effective armor-defeating systems in sequence. The Draika-powered plasma sheath has a very high chance of flash-vaporizing armor, which is then followed by the monomolecular vibro-edge which has the ability to cleave with microscopic precision. This allows it to potentially slice through heavy vehicle armor and starship hulls with contemptuous ease.
  • Psychic Contamination: The Bloodsteel's nature may induce nightmares, bloodlust, and hallucinations in those with weak mental fortitude. Merely facing the Howling Death can break an enemy's morale before the first blow is struck, making the weapon a potent tool of terror.
  • Axe Shield: The clinging plasma edge is highly effective at deflecting blaster bolts, lightning, and other plasma-based discharges. This allows the wielder to close the distance against ranged opponents without needing a separate shield.
  • Synergistic Slasher: The Howling Death’s components are both stacked and integrated. The plasma weakens, the vibro-blade cleaves, the superheated gas cone scours the area, and the Bloodsteel feeds on the results. This synergy makes the weapon far more effective and efficient than the sum of its parts.
WEAKNESSES
  • Creeping Bloodlust: Prolonged use of the Howling Death can drive the wielder to bloodlust, madness, and paranoia. The weapon demands a strong willpower from its wielder.
  • Force Nullification: In a Force-dead zone (e.g., under the influence of ysalamiri or Void Stone), the Howling Death becomes "just" a very heavy, very sharp, and vibrating axe. The Bloodsteel loses its metaphysical properties and the Draika crystals' plasma output is staggered or cut off entirely.
  • Limited Defensive Utility: While the Howling Death can deflect blaster fire, the weapon’s large size and weight make it far slower and less maneuverable than a lightsaber for sustained defense. It is generally vulnerable to rapid, coordinated fire from multiple angles or high-rate-of-fire weapons that might overwhelm its parrying ability.
  • Gary, Quit It, You're Going to Start a Howl!: The Howling Death is anything but subtle. The hum of its ultrasonic generator and the hiss of the superheated plasma (in addition to the plasma’s associated crimson-white glow) make stealth nigh-impossible and risk announcing the wielder's presence long before they are seen.
  • Big Bad Wolf: At 32 kg and 2.2 meters long, the Howling Death demands a wielder of prodigious physical strength, almost certainly necessitating Force-enhanced physical prowess. By extension, the weapon is generally impractical for stealth, confined spaces, or for any user without specific biological or Force-augmented advantages.
  • Friendly Isolation: While powerful, the 120° cone of superheated gas and debris from the Draika-infused plasma edge generally presents an elevated risk for friendly fire. It prevents allies from safely engaging a target from the front. This has a secondary effect of potentially isolating the wielder on the battlefield, making team attacks in melee significantly more difficult to execute due to the heightened danger.
DESCRIPTION
Forged by the blacksmith-priests of the Temple of Khorag, the Howling Death is a large, heavy vibro-battleaxe intended for a wielder of massive stature. The weapon is constructed from several potent materials used by Sith-aligned craftsmen: These include Svolten rhyolite treatment, an obsidian-Sarrassian Iron inner core, a Pyroclast Alloy outer casing, and Draika crystal-infused runes. The twin axe heads are forged from Sith-alchemized Bloodsteel, etched with runes that are scarred into the metal.

These runes house the fragmented, burning hearts of the weapon: Draika crystals that hum with contained stellar fury. When activated, the blades vomit forth a sheath of clinging, crimson-white plasma that scorches the air, unleashing heat capable of peeling open the hull of a starship. This is coupled with a relentless ultrasonic thrum that makes the axe head blur, allowing it to rip and tear through what the plasma cannot instantly vaporize.

In battle, the Howling Death is the cry of a beast tearing reality asunder, as much a force of nature as it is an instrument of war!

By some means, the Howling Death found its way into Ellissanthia’s hands. Knowing that the weapon was far, far too big for her to wield with any degree of practicality, she elected to give it away.
