WEAKNESSES
  • Slow Firing: A lot of cutbacks and sacrifices had to be made to fit a rifle in a submachine gun sized package, one such cut back the the complete deletion of a automatic firing mode which severely hampers the weapons rate of fire
DESCRIPTION
Looking to expand their product line once again the designers at Hekler'Kok began developing ideas for a new weapon that they could market. One weapon that gained a lot of traction was known simply as a 'survival carbine'. The concept was that of a rifle caliber firearm the size of a submachine gun that would take up minimal storage spaced and could be stored in small spaces and used in emergencies.

With the idea formulated they began working on a feasible design they could work on. In the end they developed a semi-automatic carbine chambered in the same cartridge as their AR-01, the 6.8x49mm caliber. They decided on this cartridge for two reason, it gave users some familiarity with the weapon if they've used Hekler'Kok weapons previously and the 6.8x49mm is made in both armor-piercing and hollow point models.

From their they began the process of choosing the materials that would be used in the carbines construction. They used their trademark Titanium-Alusteel alloy for the receiver, stock, barrel and internal mechanisms to keep weight down without sacrificing durability. The barrel was lined with Chromium to reduce barrel erosion. The grip and handguard are made of Plastoid to decrease weight without decreasing durability. Finally all the weapons exposed metallic parts were coated in CermaiCoat to prevent external damage.

With materials decided they then went to work on the features of the weapon. As with all Hekler'Kok weapons the SC-01 features fully ambidextrous controls including the safety, magazine release and bolt release. The carbine's charging handle is reversible allowing for users to switch it to their comfort. A folding stock allows the user to store the weapon in more confined spaces. To round out the features a unique scabbard was made for the carbine big for easier storage and four pouches big enough to carry two 15 round magazines each were added to it.

The release of the carbine was seen with lackluster attention from the galaxy at large but some sales and use by survivalists were attained. Said survivalists began to extol the carbines value and it began to grow a following. Said following included aforementioned survivalists, paramilitary groups, planetary militia and police forces. In all Hekler'Kok considered the SC-01 to be a commercial success.
