  • Effective Range: Average (Automatic Rifle) Long Range (Rifle and Marksman Rifle)
  • Rate of Fire: Low (Marksman Rifle), Average (Rifle), High (Automatic Rifle)
  • Damage Output: Average (Automatic Rifle), High (Rifle), Very High (Marksman Rifle)
  • Recoil: High (Marksman Rifle) Average (Rifle and Automatic Rifle)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Fully Ambidextrous Controls: A set of fully ambidextrous controls on the weapon make using it by a wide variety of people and species much simpler and easier to train on
  • Weapon Power Modulator: A special feature inserted into the rifle this modular allows the weapon to switch between four modes: Stun, which allows the user to fire powerful non-lethal bolts, Rifle, which converts the rifle to a standard, if not hard hitting, blaster rifle, Automatic Rifle, which converts the rifle to fully automatic while reducing power to allow it to be used for suppressing fire and Marksman Rifle, which increase the damage output of the rifle to allow for longer and more accurate shots but increases recoil and decrease ammunition capacity
  • 2-8x Variable Zoom Targeting Scope: A integrated targeting scope capable of two to eight times magnification to more easily engage targets at a distance
  • Gription Panels on the Handguard and Pistol Grip: Panels made of Gription installed in the handguard and pistol grip to make it very hard for a soldier to lose their rifle in the heat of combat
  • Ram Air Intake Cooling Shroud: Mounted just behind the muzzle of the rifle is a ram air intake cooling shroud which using the force of the rifle firing to draw air into the shroud and cool the barrel to help prevent overheating
  • Heavy Quadanium Barrel: A barrel constructed out of heavy and dense Quadanium Steel helps to both prevent overheating of the rifle and keep it more accurate under sustained fire by keeping the muzzle of the rifle from rising during firing
  • Integrated Bipod: A simple bipod mounted below the rifle cooling shroud allows for a degree of stability when firing the rifle no matter what mode it is in which is further aided by the Gription panels on the bipods feet
  • Backup Folding Iron Sights: A set of folding backup iron sights are mounted below the scope and just behind the muzzle of the rifle in case of damage to the scope so the soldier can still effectively utilize the rifle
  • Vibro-Bayonet and Mount: A simple vibro-bayonet can be mounted on the rifle by slipping the bayonet ring over the rifles muzzle and securing the pommel to the rifle by a magnet in front of the bipod, can also be used as wire-cutters when utilized with its provided sheath
  • Stock Storage Compartment: A hollow compartment in the stock allows for storage, while the user manual of the rifle suggests storing spare parts or a cleaning kit in this compartment it is watertight and weatherproofed so just about anything that can fit can be stored in it
STRENGTHS
  • Highly Versatile: The Hekler'Kok teamed started out with the intention of designing a rifle that could fit as many roles as possible and while they had to scale this vision back somewhat to be able to fit into the criteria provided by the Galactic Alliance they still were able to produce a rifle that could fit into the standard rifle, marksman rifle and automatic rifle roles with a good degree of comfortability
  • Hard Hitting Power: Based off of the Clone Wars era Valken-38x Blaster Rifle the ASR-1 has more stopping power for your typical blaster rifle due to the fact that the rifle it is based upon was originally intended to be a sniper rifle and as such required more power
  • Simple, Rugged and Reliable: As with all weapons designed by Hekler'Kok it was ensured that the ASR-1 could operate in a wide variety of environments from deserts and swamps to urban centers and deep space
WEAKNESSES
  • On the Heavier Side: While the ASR-1 falls below the maximum required threshold for weight set forth by the Galactic Alliance in their commission for their new service rifle it still is considered rather on the heavy side for a contemporary military service rifle
  • Doesn't Excel: Hekler'Kok is known for being a company of simplistic quality however this can sometimes lead their weapons to be rather basic, the ASR-1 while rather well constructed and thought out is still rather on the simple sode
DESCRIPTION
Ever on the lookout for lucrative government contracts the team at Hekler'Kok were more than excited when they received the notice that the Galactic Alliance was holding a contest for companies to developed their military's new service rifle and the team jumped at the chance. It was discovered however that the team had been notified of the contest much too late to build a new rifle from scratch so they fell back on a tried and tested method of theirs, taking a weapon from the past and updating and reworking it to modern times.

To do this they began searching the historical weapons archives for rifles that might be suitable for redevelopment. Many ideas were tossed around, the E-11 was considered to mired in the old Imperial regime, the A280 was considered but was considered to be too underpowered for what the design team wanted and even weapons like the GALAAR-15 were considered but passed on due to the thinking that the Alliance would be hesitant to adopt a weapon of Mandalorian origin. Finally they hit on a workable rifle, the Valken-38x.

Performance wise the rifle had everything the team was looking for in a rifle and politically it had been used by only the Galactic Republic and was therefore considered 'safe' enough to submit to the contest. With these things in mind the design team at Hekler'Kok began their work on redesigning the rifle to better fit into the modern era and to appeal as much as possible to the Alliance.

First thing first was to replace all of the old materials used in the weapons construction with newer, more modern ones to better suit it. All metal components were replaced with Hekler'Kok's trademark Titanium-Alusteel Alloy that is well known for its light weight and high durability. The furniture of the rifle were swapped from Plastoid to Betaplast, a similar type of material that while weight similar was much more durable. The barrel was changed out to Quadanium Steel to both help with overheating and accuracy and the interior of the barrel was coated in Dallorian Alloy to help with the overheating problem as well. Finally the entire rifle was given a healthy coating of CeramiCoat to help with environmental extremes.

With the process of material selection finished the team finished the design process by selecting a bevy of features to go into the rifle to help enhance its performance, this included everything from a set of fully ambidextrous controls to a watertight and weatherproofed storage compartment in the stock. Once these were implemented into the weapon next came the testing phase.

Instead of workshop and lab testing the team at Hekler'Kok instead produced a test run of 200 ASR-1's and deployed them with a company of Legionnaires from the Galactic Foreign Legion who were going on a combat deployment to a world where they would be subject to a wide variety of environments and also experience heavy combat use. Over three months these Legionnaires fought various battles in jungles, swamps, deserts, urban centers and even a few battles against pirates in zero gravity above the planet.

Once this three month deployment was concluded the Legionnaires came back and were interviewed and debriefed by members of the Hekler'Kok design team to gather their opinions on the rifle. Thankfully almost all of the Legionnaires gave the rifle glowing reviews and many of the problems they mentioned were simple quality of life improvements such as adjusting the pistol to more comfortable angle, changing the design of the bipods feet to better grip surfaces and moving the scope further forward on the receiver to give better eye relief when shooting.

Finally with these small changes implemented the team submitted their design to the Galactic Alliance in the hopes it would be chosen.

As usual, very cool weapon!
  • You forget to fill this field, I would like to ask you to do so.
Modularity: (Can components of this submission be swapped out for other components? Is it especially easy to modify? For most submissions, put 'No'.)
  • And I found two more problems. Rifle mode is 1 rating higher than balanced; and the Automatic rifle mode has 3 ratings higher than the balanced. I would like to ask you to fix these.
