OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

UvqHMjL.jpg

  • Intent: To further buff up the lore of the Grayson Imperium, and introduce a more authoritarian group into the faction
  • Role: The Bluecoats are a paramilitary organization made up of private citizens that are fanatically loyal to the new regime, and wish to affect its moral changes throughout the Imperium.
  • Links: Grayson Imperium, Cedric Grayson, Followers of The Ashla
  • Permissions: Myself, The Grayson Imperium members

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Officially known as The Bluecoats, Unofficially as Grayson's Bluecoats
  • Affiliation: The Bluecoats are fanatically loyal to the Imperium and whomever its Imperator may be at any given time.
  • Classification: Conscripts/Infantry, The Bluecoats are primarily made up of civilians and military veterans.
  • Equipment: The Bluecoats have no official equipment, and will generally make use of blunt instruments to bring about the changes they wish. They have been known to engage in the use of firearms when they are required, but generally utilize non-lethal melee force to subdue their opponents.
  • Description: The Bluecoats are the result of rising nationalism within Coruscant's populace. They are a movement primarily comprised of young humanoid men that have been thrown into a frenzy by the words of their Lord-Imperator. The Bluecoats are not sanctioned by the Imperium, and serve as a paramilitary policing arm that carries out acts of vigilantism in service of the state. They are fanatically loyal, and have mobilized under the idea that to bring about the Imperator's vision for a just and moral Imperium, they must take matters into their own hands. Whilst not officially condoned, the Bluecoats tend to follow the orders of the Imperator whenever they are given, though the group often acts of its own accord. Bluecoats are marked as members by their respective blue coats, all of which are colored a deep navy blue to signify the organization's devotion to the Imperium.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Unit Size: Large: The Bluecoats are quite large, as their movement has been romanticized by much of Coruscant's media. A surge in the desire to return Coruscant to its former glory has led to thousands of young men taking to the streets in the hopes of seeing their Imperator's vision realized.
  • Unit Availability: Common
  • Unit Experience: Recruit: Whilst much of the Bluecoats are made up of fanatical university students, common men, and laborers, the orchestraters of the movement are almost all former military. This has resulted in basic military training for the majority of the group. Most of the men know how to operate basic firearms, move as a unit, etc.
  • Combat Function: The majority of the Bluecoats' operations are against gangs, political dissidents, and followers of the Dark Side within the Imperium. They are generally not expected to participate in real warfare, though if the situation is called upon, the Bluecoats would serve as a reserve garrison in defense of their homes.

Strengths
  • Ideological Fanaticism: The Bluecoats are true believers in the Imperium dream. They feel that theirs is the cause of righteousness, and will fight to the death in the name of their ideology.
  • The Ashla: Many of the Bluecoats have converted to the Imperium's state religion, The Followers of the Ashla. Their belief in the Ashla has resulted in the Bluecoats taking on many humanitarian missions across the Imperum, endearing them to the populace, and tempering the brutality often associated with such zealous groups.

Weaknesses
  • Ideological Fanaticism: As stated before, the Bluecoats are true believers. They have little tolerance for those that think Coruscant and her subsequent worlds should follow any path other than the Imperator's. A Bluecoat will have little sympathy for those disloyal to the monarchy, especially for those that espouse the teachings of the Bogan, believers in unrestrained capitalism, loyalists to the old imperial regimes, and communists. Followers of any nation aside from the Imperium and its allied states are seen as disloyal dissidents as best, and scum best put in a cell at worst.
  • Poorly Equipped: The Bluecoats are neither sanctioned nor funded by the Imperium. All their arms and armaments are already owned by their members, or are donated by private citizens sympathetic to the cause.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Bluecoats rose to prominence shortly after the coronation of Lord-Imperator Cedric Grayson I. After being under control by so many foreign powers, large swathes of the Coruscanti population have grown disgusted by the state of their planet. The Imperator's message of cleaning up the planet, and returning it to its former prominence at the center of the galaxy spoke to these disenfranchised youths.

Shortly after the coronation, crackdowns began across the planet to reduce the influence of the planet's former warlords, and the criminal underworld. Coruscant is, however, a massive world, and the Essonians and their allies simply lacked the numbers to bring about sizable change. This was noticed by several groups of university students, who requested a private meeting with the Lord-Imperator. To their surprise, their audience was granted. In return for their assistance, the Imperator promised that the government would turn a blind eye to their activities, and provided a handful of Essonian officers to train this burgeoning group.

In the two months that have passed since the coronation, the Bluecoats have organized beyond the simple fraternities of the universities. With the Lord-Imperator calling upon his father's brief rule over Coruscant as a line of canonical succession, elements of the youth population with a greater affinity toward authority and force of will opted to put their trust in Coruscant's first ruling monarch in generations. Additionally, the Imperium's relief efforts have worked to endear much of the population, as the Essonians have poured billions of their credits into reforming the Undercity, as well as working to undo the damage that decades of war have brought to the galactic capital. This all coupled with the Lord-Imperator's rhetoric of Coruscant reigning as the head of a new hegemony have spurred on the hearts and minds of many. Whilst some elements remain embittered due to the Essonian's nature, many have been able to see the Imperator as something of a local, given his family's several thousand years of documented service to the Old Republic and residence on Coruscant. As a result, thousands of young men looking for a cause joined up with the paramilitary unit, and began to assist in the government crackdown on corruption.

The Bluecoats are present on all Imperium worlds, usually with one or more chapter houses. Their greatest contributions have been in the Coruscant underworld. Emboldened by a sensation of history being made, the Bluecoats have spread through the underworld like wildfire. Crime families that have stood for centuries were dragged and beaten through the streets, drug dens bombed, sympathizers with foreign powers made to simply disappear. In their place have risen churches devoted to the Ashla, humanitarian organizations providing food and housing to the homeless, and numerous state funded businesses designed to kickstart the underworld as its economy shifts from a black market economy to a white market economy.

While this all sounds lovely, the Bluecoats have been known to see some of the gray areas as more black and white. Prostitution, marketing of intoxicants, and general places of debauchery such as strip clubs have all been targeted by the Bluecoats. Whilst some businesses working in these areas (those sanctioned by the state, and thus must pay exorbitant taxation fees) have remained, much of Coruscant's culture is changing to fit the moral mold of the Imperium, whether it wants to or not.

First of all, I like how you're fleshing out the Grayson Imperium through your subs.

This submission has generated some discussion, and so there are two things we have to address first before we can send this to approval.

First of all, you state in this as well as other submission as an objective fact that the Grayson Imperium has control over Coruscant and is remoulding it to suit its ideology. It is obviously okay to make that claim and rp the Imperium operating on Coruscant as well as exerting influence on it and other planets. However, at present the Imperium is a minor faction. Influence is not the same as total control. You can headcanon the latter, but it is not an objective fact unless the faction is major (given the application that was made not so long ago, I assume the GI intends to go major). Other writers can choose to rp on the planet and write their own stories. Ideally, they will acknowledge the Imperium is present on the planet given all the established rp, but one cannot force the issue.

You can say the Bluecoats are a major force on Coruscant, and are spreading the Imperium's dogma, cracking down on crime etc. But one should avoid absolute language.

Could you please clarify this a bit? You state here that the Bluecoats are a product of rising nationalism on Coruscant. That's quite logical, given all the invasions and regime changes the planet has endured. Yet here and elsewhere they are described as fanatically loyal to Cedric and the Imperium. Thing is, the Imperium is a foreign regime of Essionian crusaders. They toppled one foreign government (the remnants of the Imperial Confederation) and now seek to impose their own regime. So why are nationalists so loyal to the Imperator?

After having changed hands so many times (Republic to OS to GA to the CIC), wouldn't many Coruscanti rail against another foreign government, even if it is more benevolent, especially when it is trying to impose its religious dogma? To clarify, I'm not saying you should rewrite the lore, just clarify the rationale a bit. For instance, one could make the argument that many people were so broken by the Endgame, the CIC's collapse and so on that they saw Cedric as a liberator when he came to spread his beliefs, which softened the blow etc.

[member="Elpsis Kerrigan-Alcori"] - That's all fine by me. I'll get to work on some edits when I find the time this week. Will I be able to edit the control to be a bit more absolute once we have gone major?

[member="Cedric Grayson"]

Definitely, since you'd be in control of the planet then.

In the meantime, this could spawn some interesting rp for you and your faction, as you write about the Imperium spreading its beliefs etc. Hell, given how extremely zealous these Bluecoats seem be, it could even be interesting if one of their crackdowns gets out of hand and the Imperium has to deal with that.

Tag me when once you're ready and I'll continue with the review.

[member="Elpsis Kerrigan-Alcori"] - Can I get this moved to pre-codex. I'm just going to flesh it out properly once we're major, make a thread or two about them in particular in the meantime.

Hello. Here we are again.

I believe this represents a misunderstanding of the Permission field in the new template. The permission field is not about who can use the unit. Instead you're supposed to link any marketplace purchases or ooc permissions if the unit (or NPC etc.) is using things such as tech that were made by another. Like, if this unit used weapons made by Company X run by Writer Y. However, that is not the case here, so just put N/A.

Furthermore, the image needs to be addressed. It depicts Italian Blackshirts, in other words members of the Italian Fascist Party's paramilitary forces, in Yugoslavia, a country Italy and Germany invaded during WW2 (and committed various atrocities in). Leaving aside their role in suppressing political enemies of Mussolini as well as in WWII, they were also the inspiration for various other Fascist paramilitaries of the time, such as the Nazi SA.

Codex staff recently introduced the following rule:

  • Imagery depicting real-world controversial events, or people, such as "Nazi" or "Fascist" groups should not be utilized. If you are uncertain whether or not an image is appropriate please feel free to reach out to Codex Staff and ask.
In the light of this and after discussion with Codex staff, I must ask you to remove and replace the image. If you are uncertain about whether an image is suitable or not, as it can be hard to determine this sometimes, you can always ask me or any other member of Codex staff.
