STRENGTHS

Good Defensive Protection: While abysmally armed, the GR-120 is relatively well armored and shielded for the vessel of its class and is equipped with simple but effective countermeasures.

Economical: Is inexpensive to operate and maintain. While this not necessarily a practical attribute in a warship, the low-cost of operation is a very desirable characteristic in a commercial vessel where the bottom line is king.

Fast: With a class 1 hyperdrive this vessel is considered rather speedy for a freighter of its size and type. This enables the vessel to spend less time in transit increasing its operational tempo which saves time and money.

WEAKNESSES

Practically Unarmed: The automated pair of dual laser cannons the ship is equipped with can realistically only be considered a mild deterrent rather than a credible threat to any potential hostile attack and does not provide it with any meaningful offensive capability.

Lightly Crewed and Automated: As a commercial vessel, this ship is designed to operate with the smallest crew possible with a reliance on automation for routine operational needs. Within safe and secure trade lanes this is an acceptable limitation but in less secure areas it is a distinct disadvantage. The small crew compliment would not be sufficient to thwart a pirate attack or a catastrophic ships systems failure and would be reliant upon outside assistance.

DESCRIPTION

The GR-75 has been a mainstay of galactic transportation for over a millennium and examples of this venerable commercial workhorse are still routinely seen along the galaxy's trade routes to this day. So, when the design team at Mando-De'Loren Multi Atmospherics began discussions about creating a modern freighter they naturally looked back to one of the most successful designs and sought to improve it to meet their specifications. Keeping the basic design, the shipwrights nonetheless made some significant changes. First, they scaled up the classic frame by almost 30%, modernized the internals and completely redesigned the interior layout to optimize cargo capacity and efficient, cost-effective operations while keeping the GR-75's reliability and stout hull.

The most visible change was to change the open clam-shell cargo bay into a closed series of internal cargo bays a modification that drastically increased the cargo carrying capacity. The new protected cargo space is fully modular allowing operators to easily swap between standard intermodal shipping containers, refrigerated reefer compartments, bulk goods and liquid cargo. Efficiency is baked into the frame; the cargo decks feature integrated handling gear, while wide hydraulic ports line the hull to ensure rapid loading and unloading even at primitive landing sites with little infrastructure. Furthermore, the propulsion has received a massive overhaul, upgrading the hyperdrive from a sluggish Class 4 to a swift Class 1. While the higher speed increases fuel consumption, the dramatic boost to operational tempo and slashed transit times more than offset the extra fuel expenditures.

The passenger and crew quarters are basic but comfortable prioritizing utilitarian efficiency without sacrificing standard amenities. In its standard cargo configuration, the vessel accommodates up to 26 passengers in shared berths, providing logistics companies with the flexibility to rotate personnel across different facilities. For dedicated transit, the GR-120 can comfortably cabin 200 passengers, or pack up to 2,500 people in a high-density, seating-only commuter or refugee configuration for short-haul journeys. To ensure self-sufficiency, the freighter features a small single-craft hangar, routinely equipped with a TUG-b13 'Quadjumper' to assist with orbital docking and rapid cargo transfers.

The MDL GR-120 is poised to seamlessly carry on the legacy of its storied predecessor.
