STRENGTHS
  • Annihilator - Having been designed for the purpose of fighting and slaying other dreadnoughts specifically, the Gorgon is one of the most heavily armed warships ever constructed by the Sith Empire.
  • Bulwark - Likewise, the Gorgon was designed to survive sustained engagements with one or more dreadnoughts. It has excessive defensive capabilities against almost any type of weapon, as well as significant internal defenses to dissuade boarding teams.
  • Innately Corrupt - Due to the numerous meditation chambers utilized by the warship's complement of Sith and Vanessa Vantai herself, in concert with the alchemized frame components crafted of Star Forge metal, the Gorgon's corrupt nature allows a Darksider to easily focus within the overall warship, similar to the effects of a Sith Meditation Sphere. The appearance of the ship may evoke feelings of fear and unease in those not prepared for its arrival.
WEAKNESSES
  • Ponderous - With an intense focus on armor and firepower, the Gorgon is decidedly unmaneuverable and slow to engage enemies, allowing it to be outmaneuvered and outrun.
  • Safe Zone - With an offensive design, albeit with well spread out armament, the rear of the vessel is unprotected by any capital-grade beam weaponry and is a 'safe zone' where warships will not bear the full brunt of anti-capital firepower.
  • Unstable Systems - Conventional technology, in concert with the energy crystals and corrupt metal being unnatural items for starship use, mean the systems of the warship are unstable and not as effectively integrated as a conventional warship. This leaves the vessel vulnerable to system damage from internal saboteurs.
DESCRIPTION
Development of the Gorgon, Vanessa's personal star dreadnought, dated back over several years to shortly after the Battle for Corellia, in which Vanessa's fleet units engaged the Silver Jedi dreadnought Hyperion Ascendant, crippling the vessel while suffering multiple losses of Star Destroyer-class warships. Unable to secure permission from Emperor Carnifex to garner a dreadnought by which to engage such a warship with again, Vanessa was forced to become content with designing battlecruisers that, in units of two or three, could engage and defeat such a vessel - thus was born the Sovereign, and later, the Sovereign Elite-class Battlecruiser. It would be years before the Emperor finally acquiesced to her wishes, giving her permission to construct such a warship.

It was with the assistance of Cara Dorniarn Cara Dorniarn that work began, and eventually concluded on the warship in question. Dubbed Gorgon, after the former flagship of famed Imperial admiral Natasi Daala, the vessel was completed and trialed within several months, using the entirety of the resources and personnel at the Nathema orbital complex, in concert with excessive use of the Dark Side of the Force. The resulting vessel was a warship of nigh-unparalleled power, capable of inflicting tremendous casualties on the enemies of the Sith Empire.

At its core, the Gorgon combines exceptionally thick molecularly bonded armor, able to withstand sustained barrages of firepower from Star Destroyers, Battlecruisers, and Dreadnoughts, with a three layer shield system. What is not reflected by the Xythan Force Shields is absorbed by the molecular shields and deflected by the enhanced deflector shields. Whatever gets by that is absorbed by the diatium capacitance array and fed into the warship's systems, an additional defensive capability should the shields be rendered non-functional.

Armament-wise, the Gorgon fits a pair of UBeam ultra-heavy beam cannons at its prow. The two weapons combined equal the firepower of the kyber crystal cannon on the front of the Emperor's own warship, but can also slightly split their target picture at long range to engage 2 battlecruisers, or otherwise target multiple areas on an enemy dreadnought. These are combined with super-heavy beam cannons scattered across the hull for anti-Star Destroyer and anti-Battlecruiser work, with light beam cannons joining them for use against corvette and frigate-class warships. Seeker baradium missile tubes, as used on the Voracitos-class Bombardment Sphere, are also fitted to engage warships of all sizes with their dangerously powerful warheads. Long range heavy mass driver batteries are placed within the firing grid as well, allowing the Gorgon to effectively destroy targets with limited or no anti-physical weapon defenses. Innumerable composite beam lasers serve as anti-fighter defenses, joined by antimissile octets to ward away enemy missile bombardment. Ion cannons are included for use in rapidly depleting shields or disabling enemy warships.

The Gorgon fits a number of unique weapons, intended by Vanessa to assail enemy warships in ways yet undefended. In concert with standard orbital bombardment cannons intended to engage hostile ground bases, the dreadnought fits a dorsal and ventral-mounted shield leech weapon, allowing the vessel to directly siphon off the shield energy of enemy warships up to dreadnought size and use the power to alleviate strain on their own warship's reactors. Additionally, the vessel's computers contain within their databanks a number of potent computer viruses, crafted by Vanessa through the use of the Sith sorcery known as Mechu Deru and capable of being transmitted to enemy warships though communications channels, active sensor readings, and other means of transmission. These viruses, once received by an enemy warship's systems, may cause tremendous havoc unless the infected computers are isolated, ranging from relatively benign harm such as blasting white noise across enemy communication channels to more critical harm such as IFF and targeting scrambling, or potentially ship shutdown or subversion should the infection not be dealt with.

The most unique system on board the warship, however, consists of hundreds of meditation chambers stationed deep within the core of the vessel. Each meditation chamber is occupied by a single knight-level Sith, who may channel his or her Dark Side power within the meditation chamber. Individually, the Sith serve as an ersatz crystal grav-field trap, detecting cloaked enemy warships and their locations from the presence of their pilot or occupants. Additionally they may exert more telekinetic or mind-based powers on enemies. The aggressive Dark Side presence that pervades the warship, a combination of alchemical processes performed by Vanessa herself and other trained Sith on metal reclaimed from the wreckage of the Star Forge in Lehon with the presence of so many Darksiders, enhances a Sith's ability to perform their dark craft. These Sith may even combine their efforts to engage in more effective feats of telekinetic or manipulative power.

The various processes used to create the Gorgon, while having crafted an unparalleled warship, do have flaws. The computer systems of the vessel are crafted utilizing energy crystals, serving as both a form of additional data storage and transmission while also providing supplementary power, are not effectively integrated with the more conventional systems installed in the ship. As such, the vessel's systems are unstable and may suffer harm if exceedingly taxed or sabotaged from within. As expected for a combat-oriented dreadnought, the Gorgon is slow and unmaneuverable, with minimal anti-warship firepower at the rear. Nevertheless, Vanessa intends for the Gorgon to effectively engage everyone from the New Imperial Order to the Silver Jedi, perhaps for a rematch with the Hyperion Ascendant...

  • Innately Corrupt - Due to the numerous meditation chambers utilized by the warship's complement of Sith and Vanessa Vantai herself, in concert with the alchemized frame components crafted of Star Forge metal, the essence of the Dark Side is strong within the vessel. Exertion of Dark Side powers is easier within the ship, and Light Side powers are more difficult to concentrate on and perform. The appearance of the ship may evoke feelings of fear and unease in those not prepared for its arrival.

Essentially are we talking about a darkside Force nexus here?

Gir Quee Gir Quee have thought about it, and no, as the ship is not a reservoir of Dark Side energy for any Darksider on board to draw from. It merely creates a more suitable environment for them to use the Dark Side - like how it's easier to work in air conditioning instead of under blistering sun. As for the fear and unease, that's less the vessel's corrupt nature and more the sudden appearance of an SSD scaring someone.

Onrai Onrai , I've bolded and italicized the issue here.

From Wookieepedia's entry on Force Nexus:

Force nexus, or vergence, is a term used to refer to any location where the Force, or any particular aspect of the Force, was unusually strong.

While the Gorgon might not be able to give Force users energy, I think that description makes it a force nexus because the Dark Side is a particular aspect of the Force where it is described as being stronger than normal. The effects described within the submission itself also are similar to some dark side nexus locations.

I think a possible way forward with this is to write that it has been treated with Sith alchemy or magic to get some similar (but not exactly the same) buffing effects.

EDIT: I've also been told that the original Square Hammer will need to be officially archived in order for this to be approved.

I mean, by that logic any large congregation of Sith could comprise the creation of a Dark Side Nexus given the combined Force presences would have a similar effect. Given the ability to "make it easier to do Dark Side stuff and harder to do Light Side stuff" is just fluff and people will crunch-wise likely successfully resist any darkness on the ship, and given the need for a Dark Side Nexus to have to have an actual impact on what it's involved in crunch-wise, I'm not sure how it can be classified as such, particularly given the ship is already mentioned as having been alchemized. I have also let Hailyn Hailyn know regarding the Square Hammer needing archival.

Onrai Onrai , I think a possible solution would be describing the alchemy as allowing the Gorgon to be used as a focusing device (not unlike a meditation sphere) for existing dark side powers.

The idea that it possibly affects a possible opponent's ability to use the Light Side of the Force should be removed.

Onrai Onrai , looking better:

The bolded section still basically reads as a force nexus. If you eliminate that part, we'll be good to go.
