  • Intent: An unusual species of Vran’Ti
  • Image Credit: I think from korb-parasite. I tried searching from where I found it on pinterest, but I only got more from pinterest.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: vranti, vran, koroshkil.
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Ghanikril
  • Designation: Non-Sentient
  • Origins: Altered Vran’Ti species
  • Average Lifespan: 30-42 standard years.
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: The Ghanikril appear like large black centipede like insects with several tendrils near the face and tail. If you took a look at it’s underside you would see many more of these. They appear to have only a single eye on top of their head, but this is only used as a defensive means to know what’s above them. There are around seven to eight on their face. Seven for males, eight for females.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Does not breath.
  • Average Height of Adults: 10-12 cm
  • Average Length of Adults: 0.6-1.21 meters
  • Skin color: Black
  • Hair color None
  • Distinctions: The Ghanikril are an insect race recognized by their long black and many legged bodies, with numerous tendrils underneath and on either end. They possess a single green eye on top of their head, and seven to eight on their face. Seven for males, eight for females. They however, hope to not be seen this way. And are more commonly discovered embedded into the spines and necks of larger vertebrate mammals, preferably quadrupeds..
  • Races: None known
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Durable scales protect them from the harsh environments, and make them rather hard to damage.
  • Do not breath, like some other insects of Vran’Ti instead they have to feed more regularly. However as a result they can survive almost any environment for a time.
  • Are able to take hold of a vertebrete’s nervous system by latching onto their spine and neck, forcing them to act certain ways. Generally, they just force the person to not believe they are their, and continue living life but with a higher resolve to survive, as a result keeping the Ghanikril alive.
  • Can be taken control of by some force sensitives, allowing them to be used for effectively mind controlling individuals. Although this usually works for making very blatant commands such as “attack”, “report”, “work on this.” And relies on the existing abilities of the host.
  • Their jaws and feet pincers are especially strong and hard, and can dig through most forms of armor if they can’t slip their way underneath it. For tough scaled creatures, they tend to dig themselves between the scales instead of digging straight in.
  • Produce asexually
Weaknesses:
  • Can cause infections in their host fairly easily, either due to something they had on themselves, or due to the wound they caused when imbedding themselves around the spine and neck.
  • Even if removed, they may cause permanent nerve damage, if not death through blood loss or the damage to the spine, when being removed as they naturally hold on.
  • Can only survive up to a day without food, which generally requires taking full control of a host. Most hosts need to be large. Smaller creatures like small fish could be latched onto, but they don’t provide long lasting sustenance.
  • Can’t control species as easily with especially unusual traits. Something like a fish is avoided, and creatures with numerous arms may be too difficult to control completely. They prefer mammal races, that have four limbs.
  • The creature must contain blood, or they can’t feed off them.
  • Has only limited commands for its host. Most can be summed up to one word. They function more as drives that are impossible to refuse. Things like fight, learn, defend, forget, protect, go, work, tell, etc. Although a Vo Ni could command a Ghanikril to make complex commands, it would likely require constant attention from the Vo Ni.
  • If the creature is too large, they probably can't actually commit to controlling them. Large whales or something as unusual as a squid would be uninfected by its nervous system controlling abilities.
CULTURE
  • Diet: They feed first from some of the meat and skin when they first dig in, and then siphon some of the blood from the creatures they take hold of.
  • Communication: No communicative abilities. They control their host via tendrils that manipulate the nervous system.
  • Technology level: None
  • Religion/Beliefs: None
  • General behavior: Ghanikril possesses little intellect and does almost everything by instinct. They feed off of a host by sucking out some of the blood and keeping the host alive by convincing it that it doesn’t exist on their back, and making them feel more forced to protect their own life. Though they can be controlled by some force sensitives fairly easily due to such low intelligence. The Ghanikril produce asexually, and simply release eggs into the host body, usually muscle tissue. These eggs can take up to an entire year to grow, and not all Ghanikril even end up producing eggs. From there the eggs feed off the hosts muscle tissue, usually causing the body to end up failing to continue to function when they get too big, or recieve an infection that kills them. The host is certainly unaware of this process as the Ghanikril eggs cause nerve damage to the area to prevent it from feeling pain and removing them. When the first parasyte realizes that the eggs are growing large enough, it effectively drains the host and leaves for another leaving the eggs to grow from the remains. Although by this point, the Ghanikril may be growing too old to manage to properly latch onto another host.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Much like many species on Vran’Ti, the Vran race was not content to leave them alone and unaltered. An early clan discovered some of its members had these on them, and were terrified by them. However, in line with their tendencies, some saw this as a chance to have yet another method of controlling slaves. The Ghanikril were made more submissive to force sensitives and made slightly more capable of controlling a host through alterations to its genetics. Then they were used primarily on slaves or beasts too dangerous to take the time to train, and too hard to force into submission. This made Vo Ni even more important, since they were the ones who were sometimes able to control them. Ghanikril would see use in slave wars during early eras, but their use over slaves would begin to die out as it was seen as especially cruel and usually unnecessary. As a result these slave wars are not as often spoken of, however the effects of Ghanikril no longer being used can be seen among the slaves. These methods rose greater consideration for use of slaves. Although not considered really more than intelligent beasts still, the treatment of them was increased to a much better rate than most slaves because even such treatment of a regular animal was realized to be cruel. Although arguably not a positive, their use, and their removal from active use for such purposes, also promoted the idea of alternatives. One such way of controlling slaves is by transforming them into the Osorae species. And one of the results is that they are much easier to locate, lack traditional methods of using technology, and have considerably reduced verbal communication skills though not intelligence. And due to the infection rates the insects often caused, alternatives were generally a lot more cost effective.

In the modern day the species is almost exclusively used over individuals who would normally have been considered criminal enough to enslave, but who have a very special purpose and would not be simply laborers or fighters. However, when pushed to extreme needs, the Ghanikril may be used when there is need of a slave army for, effectively, fodder.
