Built for service in the Galactic Alliance Defense force, the Lycanthrope’s design was based heavily on that of the VSF’s earlier repeater model, the VSF Werewolf. True to VSF’s doctrine of multi-use weaponry, the Lycanthrope contains a powershot setting much like tis predecessor. While much weaker than the Werewolf’s tank busting shot, the Lycanthrope’s powershot, which uses approximately a third of a full energy cell is capable of taking down lightly armored targets such as weaponized vehicles, though it will struggle to do much against things such as tanks and walkers. Additionally, due to the strength of the powershot, it is not advised for constant or repeated use, meant to only be used on select targets as overuse can damage or warp the barrel.
Each Lycanthrope powercell carries five hundred rounds and can be stacked upon another to increase the weapon’s capacity. However, due to the weight and size of these powercells, doing so may make the weapon very unwieldy, with three being the most recommended for non-mounted positions. When mounted in a vehicle or expected for use in a static emplacement, the Lycanthrope does have a cord attachment which can be plugged into an external powersource for a much greater ammo supply.
Boasting a normal fire rate of approximately three rounds a second, the Lyncahtrope can be switched to its supercharge mode which increases the fire rate to approximately thirty rounds per second. While there is no change in the strength of these bolts, the supercharge setting does have the drawback of rapidly heating the barrel and depleting the battery. Of course, supercharging does cause the problem of recoil management and is not recommended for more than small bursts when not mounted.
Where the barrel attaches to the action of the weapon, there is a small port where one can place up to three pill shaped cryoban pellets. The Lycanthrope contains sensors which will track the weapon’s barrel heat and will begin to emit the three tone trill alerting the user that rapid cooling is advised. WIth the push of a button on the previously mentioned port, the lycanthrope will send a rush of cryoban down a delivery system along the barrel, thus cooling the weapon to allow it to fire longer without overheating. If the weapon is overheated to the point that rapid cooling is deemed dangerous for the weapon, the three tone trill will become a momentary rapid beep and the weapon will lock the cryoban port to ensure that it is not deployed until the barrel has cooled itself to a safe range of temperature.
Finally, before release, Vulpesen ensured that the GAV Lycanthrope underwent rigorous testing in Veradune’s varied climate, ensuring the weapon could survive all manner of environment, from freezing tundras, to blistering deserts, and even grime field swamps. Given his time on the battlefield and the challenges faced by both him and his men, Vulpesen prepared the Lycanthrope for a battering, and of course included the farraday cage which is standard in most Veran weaponry to keep the weapon operational even in the event of an EMP attack,
