- Devastating Firepower: Originally designed to break through heavy groundside defenses and planetary shields, the Galen Erso has five large, spectrum lasers which can all be focused on a single point like a large composite laser, producing almost overwhelming firepower against many vessels.
- Bulwark: The Galen Erso has a reinforced hull frame as well as multi-layered shielding systems, making it very durable for a ship its size.
- Slow Tracking Guns: The Galen Erso's spectrum lasers turrets are very large for a ship its size, and unsurprisingly are slow to track, to the point where sometimes its more tactically prudent to aim the guns by moving the ship.
- Low Maneuverability: The Ossis starship frame reinforces the entire ship against physical damage from all arcs, but this design also causes it to be a little bit more ungainly than many of its peers.
As with many of the non-standard ships within the Directorate fleet, the Galen Erso started out as a technology testbed prototype, in its case for the Ossis II Starship Frame and the Circino-series Nav Computer. Once testing was done, Admiral Quee had the ship modified to become a siege breaker vessel during planetary assaults. To this end, the Galen Erso was fitted with a five, massive turrets on its bottom side that each house a Scythe II-class Spectrum Laser. This allows the Galen Erso to concentrate all five beams on a single target below it or on either side of the vessel. Typically, such firepower is concentrated on a single precise point on a heavy enemy structure or ship - effectively forming a composite-beam laser - where the concentrated energy can often quickly overwhelm shields to smash into the target itself. However, these lasers can sweep through wide areas of land to clear out large numbers of troops and vehicles, in a matter similar to the homing lasers used by the old homing spider droids. While the Galen Erso is typically used to support these planetary operations, it is sometimes thrust into space combat, where its heavy firepower and defenses often surprise those who think it's a typical Kolit-class Frigate.
