Galactic Alliance Credit

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Multiple forms:
    • Centrally minted standard credit chips.
    • Regionally minted credit cubes to suit local needs (e.g. exotic appendages or eyesight).
  • Dual-layer payment security:
    • Physical security - a unique synthetic crystal lattice overlay is applied to each credit chip for added security, in addition to the usual issuing seal and serial number. While indistinguishable to the human eye, droids and payment terminals can scan the crystal lattice and apply authentication algorithms to validate that the credit chip has been legally issued and that its value has not been manipulated.
    • Electronic security - an onboard DB-SR01x micro-droid brain is programmed with the value and date of minting, allowing credit chips to be authenticated during payment. The droid brain provides financial tracking information to the Galatic Alliance Monetary Authority, which can put a hold on individual credit chips if counterfeiting or improper use is detected.

STRENGTHS
  • Your Credits are Good Here - the GAC is universally accepted on all worlds within the borders of the Alliance, facilitating the seamless flow of credits among members world and providing convenience when travelling for pleasure or business.
  • Core Stability - the value of the GAC is backed by the wealth of the Alliance and its prosperous Core worlds coupled with the GAMA Treasury Fund, which brings together a tightly managed portfolio of bonds, investments, foreign currency and precious metals. This protects the GAC from outside influence and provides peace of mind for investors and businesses.

WEAKNESSES
  • Your Credits are No Good Here - the value of the GAC cannot be guaranteed outside Alliance borders, and most foreign worlds or governments do not accept it as legal tender. Travel and galactic commerce outside Alliance borders are instead facilitated through pan-galactic currencies, such as the TFC.
  • Authentication Failed - exposure to ion energy will render the authentication circuitry in the credit chip inert, making it impossible for vendors to ensure your payment is legitimate.

DESCRIPTION

‘Credits, ah, find a way’ - Chancellor Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe

In 860 ABY, the fledgling Galactic Alliance adopted the Galactic Standard Credit, issued by the InterCalactic Banking Clan, as its interim currency.

In 867 ABY, the Senate voted to scrutinise the use of the GSC by the Alliance over concerns of its long-term viability and referred the matter Committee on Finance & Commerce. Steered heavily by then-Vice Chancellor Tithe, the Committee recommended the Alliance create and adopt its own legal tender. The remit of the Galactic Alliance Monetary Authority (GAMA) was expanded for it to act as the issuer and comptroller of the currency, better placing the Alliance to protect and grow the economies of the Core.

The Galactic Alliance Credit (GAC) before official legal tender in 869ABY. To allay financial fears and provide stability during the transition, the GAC was initially pegged to the widely used Trade Federation Standardized Credit. Once the official changeover to the new credit was completed and any in-circulation currency was exchanged, the GAC was unpegged from the TFC and independently floated.

As the official currency of the Alliance, the GAC is accepted on all Alliance planets and provides a convenient means for the citizenry to conduct business between different worlds without the need to exchange credits. The GAMA closely monitor the flow of the GAC through the economy, issuing more credits or adjusting interest rates to achieve its fiscal goals.

The stability and wealth of the Core ensures sustainable growth and protects against outside influence. Analysts have predicted that this, combined with the location of the Alliance at the heart of the galaxy with direct access to almost every government and market, will see GAC become one of the most traded currencies on the foreign exchange market.
